I know its a bit out of track ...
But is it possible to keep mail (files) in Maildir i.e. in cur,new & tmp
in compressed formay.
(Maybe using a filter like gzip / gunzip)
Any Help will be highly appreciated.

To my knowledge, pine does not directly read Maildir
there are patches for pine Maildir access, please rtfm at www.qmail.org

See the manual page for dot-qmail: entry descriptions (4) or (5) depending on your
delivery method will give you what you need.
Beware that the maildirs or mailboxes have to be owned by alias.

I backed up the contents of a few Maildirs and now I'd like to put
these messages into the new Maildirs. What's the best way to do this?
Is it safe to simply copy them in?

I did have the correct entry in .qmail (./Maildir/).
My problem turned out to be that while I had manually created Maildir, I had
not created the subdirectories.
Using makemaildir to create the Maildir directory tree worked fine.

My .qmail file in each homedir conatins
./Maildir/
which should direct mails to the corresponding Maildir. In general it
works that way. For example, in my users/assign file, I have the entry,
=sfs-cn-com-xyz:popuser:888:888:/apps/qmail/home/popboxes/sfs-cn-com/sfs-cn
I'm not sure if this is a qmail issue or what, but I'm not having a whole

Accepting mail is independent from running qmail-send. However if you
