At the time I thought it was another new kernel bug, but it now occurs on all tested kernels (see the above thread URL) so this indicates to me that it may be a bug in KDE itself, or the bug was fixed in early 2.4.17 mdk but broken again later. Again, anyone know if I can get the kernel RPM's from early 2.4.17 patch levels to properly test this and the reboot hang bug? Thanks again, Warren Togami [EMAIL PROTECTED] Oops, I forgot to mention the actual symptom. The battery indicator always displays either fully charged or 99% charged. You simply add append=noapic to the kernel in lilo.conf (search the archives for a more in depth description and instructions). I also believe that Juan may be trying to set it up so that during initial install it will recognize certain laptops automatically and apply the noapic to those in question. [Cooker] gurpmi and deps location
Is it possible to *simply* make gurpmi look first in the directory that you may be in, for deps for a given file you are trying to install In other words, I don't want to have to go into rpmdrake to setup my directory locations for gurpmi to have to find deps that are right there in the directory I'm already in For example: I wanted to install gpr I changed directory into my RPMS directory I typed in gurpmi gpr* and it came back that it needed to satisfy some deps, ok to install? After clicking OK, it started to download the deps from the Cooker site I previously had set up in rpmdrake for updates This was stupid because the deps were already right there in that directory It would have been simple if gurpmi would have simply looked in the default directory that I had started it from first Or, it could bring up a dialog box asking if the deps are already located on your system (if it didn't find them in the default directory that you are in), and if yes, ask where they are located (and then remember that location to look in if it doesn't find them in the default directory that you are in when you run gurpmi again for another install), and if no, ask if you want to download them --Bill

[Cooker] Mandrake 8.2B3 on Dell Latitude Laptop
I have installed 82B3 on an Dell latitude laptop Everything was fine untill network configuration I have a pcmcia based xircom ethernet/modem module (Xircom CardBus) and drakenet couldn't locate this My network installation failed, but I found that that xircom_cb module is loaded when I rebooted after installation After running drakenet again, and cancelling the autodetect, I could configure the netaddresses I've been using Mandrake 80 onwards in Dell latitude and know that this is supported Then can't we get this added to the supported hardware list and drakenet Even I had the problems with getting audio working with Xmms But after loadeing maestro driver and letting xmms using oss driver as audio pluggin, I could use audio Thanks, --jaimon

[Cooker] Latest Cooker install on Gateway 9150XL notebook
Install went flawless - but then again I don't test all the install features I simply blow away the root partition but keep the /home partition every new install I'm sorry to repeat myself, but there are consistent annoying problems, little stuff - but the devil is in the details 1) Sound appears to broken again (after fresh install) - it was working for a short period from the last few weeks ago - and works fine in 81 - please see attached install logs for clues It's actually hit or miss because it sometimes works, but sometimes not Funny thing is - when I launch noatun with an MP3 file - the sound springs to life!!! 2) hostname is still messed up - which consequently throws squid off the entry in /etc/hosts doesn't reflect the found hostname from the DNS 3) two floppy icons for the LS-120 drive shows up on the desktop 4) The Xircom Realport Cardbus (RBEM-56G) network card still shows up in half-duplex after the install (but during the install it is full-duplex) I have to mention this again because in all previous Cookers (especially 81 and halfway through 82) it always worked fine That's it - this is a great release!! Bryan Paxton [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: This change is to keep compatibility with Ximian GNOME. Ximian GNOME is a popular _distribution_ of GNOME. Mandrake is also a popular distribution of GNU/Linux. Distributions that have such popularity should not have a granular compatibility issue IMHO, and IMHO it does. It has gotten better on both sides over the few years, but it needs to get smooth IMHO. Some people love Mandrake GNU/Linux, but they also prefer Ximian gnome. Installation and removal of both sets of packages (libs and all) that consist of that desktop should be a breeze, and so should building packages that depend around those desktop packages (libs and all). Anyway, here's the patch, nice and small : ) This is beyond my own competence so I've asked fcrozat@ who is maintainer for all gnome stuff and he said this is needed for rebuilding for mandrake-8.1, which I'm not really interested in.. -- Guillaume Cottenceau - http://www.frozen-bubble.org/

[Cooker] samba-2.2.3a-6mdk and hung mountpoints
-Uvh'ing to this build is causing smb mountpoints to hang permanently I've verified this on seven separate machines so far If a share is mounted via smbmount, and anything happens to that mount (network drop or whatever) during access That mountpoint hangs _forever_ It's impossible to kill it with 'kill -9' It's as bad as NFS It used to time out and give up after a while, and you could certainly kill it, but this is no longer the case Even better (worse?), any process trying to access said mountpoint when it hung is also un-killable, even by killing the parent shell I can't just bounce servers whenever samba gets cross to clear the hung mountpoints and release all the fried processes Perhaps a rollback to a stable version of samba (222 or so) is in order unless and until = 223 is stable -- Brad Felmey
