I have a small set of indispensable apps that aren't available on
WP. Until that changes, I feel like I'm stuck.
Back in the WP 7 days I use to read this a lot about windows phone.
Personally, I don't run that many apps that don't come with WP8.1
although I did want the AKC dog tracker which
I hate to call you on this Winterlight, but this just isn't
true. The "8 works better on older hardware" is just wrong. I work
on a lot of different machines - 25-40 a week, and I see a lot of 8
machines. I haven't seen one that outperformed a similar Windows 7
reported, and it has become the magnet for phone malware.
Might as well suggest an iPhone!

I don't think System Restore restores all files - it isn't an image,
just protection for key system files.
It restores everything back to what it was. It restores changed
files. I have never had it not work.
In my experience, Windows 8 is significantly more flaky than Windows
7, so y
ementaryOS or Ubuntu to just have a working
system without hassle.
The question comes down to what is your goal with the laptop?

In any case, I see no reason to try and drive the Klipsch speakers
via the Sony A/V RCVR. As long as keep the volume down you should be
quite OK. I did see an RCA connector on the back of the RCVR that
might channel audio to the sub-woofer also.

BTW I recently asked if you could use HDMI as dual link monitor
cable. I tried it, and it works fine. I am currently using a HDMI
high speed cable to run my 30 inch monitor at 2560 x 1600 and it
works just fine.
I have updated... haven't had any problems. It seems faster. I notice
a few new things. I prefer Opera but it is more user friendly then Chrome.

Cable TV in my area is provided by COX, and unfortunately they
encrypt every channel except for PBS. In the last couple of months I
have had inexplicable glitches that resulted in Media Center loosing
it's licences for TV shows that I had previously recorded. When this
