Re: [313] Amsterdam/Belgium questions
I hear Dave Angel's mixing is quite good. I've enjoyed his contribution to the X-Mix series (#4) for a number of years but I've never seen him live. It's tight, diverse and he manges to keep a consistent feel while covering a lot of ground quickly. Good stuff! At worst, the track selection should be excellent. If you're into this series at all, I thought the video portion was somewhat weak relative to volumes 2 and 3. If I remember right, the CD has more songs anyway. I traded in my video for the CD. Sounds like a fun trip. Have a blast! Rob Hood recommendations.
the robert hood remix is on a peacefrog release alongside a richie hawtin remix This is extremely cheeky, but I have decided to auction off my spare copy of this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=1408147459 - there is also a Dopplereffekt 12 and an early Romanthony 12. Everybody should own a copy of it. I am also a big fan of the more stringy stuff on Duet. The recent Night Time World 2 is not quite as good as the first instalment, but it is still worth picking up. The last slice in particular is an excellent extension of the Detroit Techno blueprint in a way that actually retains it's honest soulful element. Conjures for me a kind of Mobb Deep from Neptune sound. Jonny.

Definitely go to Rotterdam -- short trainride south of A'dam. It's beautiful, quiet, and has great record stores. It's the home of Clone Records, one of the nicest record stores in Europe, and home of Clone Distribution. There are also several other record stores along the same street that are wonderful -- not all techno, but cool. I picked up all sorts of cool used records ... I'm sure you'll hear from some lowlanders about this trip, but that's my 2 cents... Overload issue 6.0
Is it me or is the 313 server particularly slow today? I posted something this morning and it still hasn't come through. And it didn't even contain any swearing! Anyway... The new issue of UK techno mag Overload hits the shops this week and next, so keep an eye out. It contains interviews with Robert Hood (by 313's own John Ossaeler), Richie Hawtin, Photek and Gilles Peterson, plus some other serious and not-so-serious stuff. And what's more, it's free! Distribution is by Integrale Muzique, Infectious Metropolis in the UK and by Neuton in Germany. The mag's site is at www.overloadmedia.co.uk

I heard Dave Angel @ The End in London last December and he absolutely rocked it! He made Darren Emerson sound very average in comparison. He played funky techy House tracks, I remember Hatiras Spaced Invader being played. I was impressed as it had been a few years since I'd last heard him. I noticed he's playing Fabric on 24/02/01 along with Marco Carola and Terry Francis, so i will definitely be at that one.

is the Rotterdam Techno label based in Rotterdam??? They put out some of that really REALLY hardcore stuff. I'm not a huge fan of hardcore, but some of the stuff that I have heard on their label (Mark V, Poogie Bear, Bam Bam) isn't alright...I can listen to it for a half an hour, maybe...Oh, they are all from Chicago too I guess. Kinda like Tresors best artists are all from Detroit...OK, time to stop rambling . There are also several other record stores along the same street that are wonderful -- not all techno, but cool. I picked up all sorts of cool used records ... I'm sure you'll hear from some lowlanders about this trip, but that's my 2 cents... I saw Dave Angel in Detroit and he played hard, fast techno, so I spent most of my time in the study with Hannah.

Last year the line up was not announced until a little less than a month before. I kept telling people that when Carl Craig is in charge of booking talent, there should be little doubt left that any of the talent will be any where less than par. And if you think its easier said..I lost the possiblity of having a full camera crew with me because I didn't get spefics in time. It's hard to prove a budget worthy when you have nothing to give but your word to a bunch of clueless connect-i-cut suit dorks. no one should be afraid of detroit
Detroit is a large american city, meaning normal big city precautions should be taken -- stay in a group, stay on main streets, don't flash cash, yadda yadda. But no one should be afraid to stay downtown for DEMF. I didn't hear about any problems at last year's show, and I don't expect any this year. And you won't be able to turn around on the Plaza without seeing a policemen. That's good news in terms of personal safety, bad news if feel like sparking up a blunt ;-) And going back and forth to Windsor would be a horrible pain in the ass. The Canadians are mellow, but American border guards can be right bastards. And they'll be especially surly during DEMF with all the extra traffic. kent williams -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.cornwarning.com -- Iowa's First Techno Record Label http://www.mp3.com/chaircrusher -- tunes

Same as Dharma, my buddy's car was broken into and our jackets were stolen (cell phones and radio left intact) while we were at the old Currency Exchange a back in '96. My Car was broken into back in '91, but otherwise, nothing eventful. RE: [313] DEMF 2K1 ?!?
Haha, I'm from Windsor, and actually live right by the bridge so it only takes me 10 minutes to get to Hart Plaza. But last year I got a room at the Renaissance Centre. It was just a lot more convenient than crossing the border everyday, especially considering between the festival and dozens of afterparties, there really ouldn't even be time to do that. As for being scared of Detroit, Windsor has a lower drinking age and is swarmed by thousands of out of control Americans every weekend, so Detroit might actually be less chaotic than Windsor :) Also, being Australian, staying in Canada, and crossing the border to the U.S. every day for the festival may cause them delays and hassles at the border, so it probably isn't worth the trouble for them to stay in Windsor. RE:[313] no one should be afraid of detroit
Detroit is a place to live in like any other big city. Residents obviously have their run ins with problems, but in all honesty, things have gotten much better. I moved out of the area due to my father getting a different job in a very different locationfrom Detroit to the thumb area (you ever heard of Frankenmuth?!?!)...for y'all that know, the two don't compare in any aspect. Also, people should stay wise of city statistics. Ever look at crime and murder rates for Flint or Saginaw? These cities have their merit, but still, I wouldn't want such an event as the DEMF to be held, under a different name of course, in either of the two. For such small cities, they just keep gettin meaner and meaner I don't know where this all came from...I am sick today, and I had to do something. My two cents, Stefan _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

I'm originally from Saginaw ('72-'85), it's a true hell hole. Flint's even worse. Be glad it's not the SEMF or FEMF we're trying to convince people to come to. :) Stefan Hratz [EMAIL PROTECTED] on 02/06/2001 04:10:46 PM To: 313@hyperreal.org cc: Subject: RE:[313] no one should be afraid of detroit Detroit is a place to live in like any other big city. Re: [313] Re: Chuggles info...
A lot of the Prescription records don't have titles from what I can tell, and even the ones that do don't always have song titles. Basically, there was a good deal of redundancy in the earlier releases, like I think I have about 6 or 7 versions of I Feel the Rhythm spread out across the releases up through maybe 111? 100-111 were the earlier releases, and after that they seemed to get less redundant. That said, there's something uniquely valuable on each of the records that will make you want them all. I think I have the entire catalog from when they were under Cajual, but I'm really not sure. I get the feeling there may not be a discog due to the lack of info on the records. The Cajual website is still down, so no clarification there. I'll try and piece together some Prescription Essentials sooner or later. Can't promise it immediately though.
