(313) track ??'s
Did anyone happen to catch Carl Craigs latest sets in Detroit? I heard him at Oslo about a month ago, and then again recently at the hightech soul party. He played a certain track in both sets a kind of asian funky pop thing, more asian really but with the techno beats it was really great, really innovative. Anyone know what that track was. Um he played it in the first half of both sets.

Re: (313) Decibel festival review...Seattle
robin- I havent been in Seattle for a couple months but heres what I know... Chop Suey - is a club on Union/Madison St. and 12th (capitol hill)there are some good events there at times. The Aristocrats - on Main and 3rd (downtown pioneer square )sometimes has some stuff going on. The guys who put on decible used to spin there every other week or so (but that was way back when not sure if that is still going on). It used to be a real insider geek out sesion there, but often good. No offense Aaron and all you Seattlites who are listening. I admit it, Im a geek too...anyone who listens to techno and is 33 is a geek, period. The Alibi Room (in the Market) might have some cool stuff. check out The Stranger (free mag) it will have all the info. Record stores - k- Zion's Gate on Pike is like the only good store around at least last time I was there, but its a good shop. Go in there and if Chris Moon is working there ask him whats going on hell know everything going on. Tell him your from the 313 list, he'll know what your talking about. Check out the new down town public Library totally beautiful. And of course Gheri's Music Experience building in the Seattle Center (where the space needle resides). I actually dont like the building at all but there are a small few who disagree. Hmmm also a nice walk is starting on Broadway and pine and walking all the way down to the market on 1st and Pike (Pike is one block S. and Parallel to Pine). Machiavelli's on Pine is a great Italian Restaurant moderately price and excellant food. Youll also hit Bauhause which is a real seattle hang out great coffee shop. Ok the best espresso drinks in Seattle are at vivace (on Broadway- their mocas are totally amazing), never go to Starbucks if you can help it, there are hundreds of small cafe's in Seattle and probably 95% of them are far superior. If you can spend some money Seattle has great restaurants, really good eating, Shanghi Garden is like the best chinese food I've had outside of my actual experiences in China, Fuji Sushi is amazing sushi (sit at the sushi bar, it makes a diff.), and Maneki's is also great for hot Japanese entres (and sushi, but fuji is better for that). Ok...you caught me I miss the food there, yes I do!!! Ok, have fun. Seattle's kind of a weird place, so get ready for the time of your life or a real boring couple days. chana --- robin [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'll be in Seattle in mid-November. Saw the Suburban Night show at smartbar in Chicago on Fri. I really enjoyed it. Wow! David arent you happy enough to have Mills, Mike Banks living on your continent. Not to mention all the shows headlining detroit/american artists that are constantly rotating through Europe. Mn, do we really have to take one of the last formidable, and sizable electronic detroit/american events left here and move it too. I personally dont have the money to be galivanting to Europe and back. This is one thing among few others I have to look forward to. I cant believe people would even consider moving the festival as a viable option. Remember it started as DEMF for a reason, and will always be that as far as Im concerned. Move the festival, and it might as well be any other festival. sorry struck a chord. I'll certainly make a donation if thats what it takes. chana

(313) Re: mills:the bucket heads
I thought the Mills set was great. Yeah the big upset in the beginning was pretty sad, but who knows what happened or why it happened. Regardless he jumped right back in there as if nothing had occured. I loved the fact that he went from house to hip hop to classic mills tracks, and all totally seemless with that amazing mills sound of a crazy train ride into the depths of the earth. Personally I was thrilled by his choice of the BUCKET HEADS, Ive always had a soft spot for that track, I think its great, regardless of it being top 40, top 40 does not always mean bad. My only dissapointment was not hearing 'changes of life', one of my favorites. I knew he was not going to play it though because his set was not as minimal as he sometimes plays, but as was mentioned before, his choice was totally appropriate for the space and audience. Jeff Mills rocked!!! Also Ectomorph (BMG), got the crowd jumping on Saturday Mornign in the underground. I very much enjoyed their version of Shari Vari! I was phyched to finally hear K hand, wow she is a hard and funky broad. Right on detroit! Francois K was great, at the afterparty on Sun. I think it was, as well as Gene Farris on Sat. Night. Never heard either live so that was a treat for sure. All in all I had a great time and I loved hearing that UR track ( forget the name. Is it make your transition?), surprized me how many djs used that track in their sets, but I thought it was great, heard the track alone a few times on my stereo. At first I did not like it, then slowly I seacretly started to like it even though I thought it was a little cheesy. But it sounds great mixed for sure, first time I heard it mixed. As some of you may know I dont write a lot on 313, mostly I just listen. Today however is different, I am not so concerned about cluttering up the list or saying something that has already been said. Not enough could ever be said about Drexciya. This duo has done so much for me and so many others, teaching us all about the depths and possibilities of music. They were pioneers and very brave men who knew there were others out there, like them, simply listening, with out fear. Indeed, it is a sad day, but also a day of careful consideration. Slowly but surely great men and women pass away as they always have and always will. Our job is to remember, and to carry on with the strength and bravery they alloted us, we were their students. With all my heart and mind I will move forth in my near future, trying my damndest to muster every bit of innovation and inspiration that was passed down to me. I will use it and create with it and that is a vow. My condolences to all who knew and loved James Stinton. Ive been checking technotourist but there's no KMS, no planet E, no 430 west, no Derrick May, no Kenny, no drexciya. Seems fishy. Last year I went to KMS party which was not advertised, but this year does not seem as promising, the line up at the festival is mediocre, and morale is down. I truely hope detroit continues to support the DEMF, not because Ill love every act on stage, but because it gives me a time to carve out of my schedual to visit your city, meet others I know in detroit, listen to uplifting, fine music and party the only way I really want to party. In light of the Carol Marvin catastrophy I know were all filled with angst about another demf this year. However sad I personally may be I am still marooned on my little island waving my techno flag . I am curious, is the festival even happening, if so is it a lost cause, and if that is the case might there be some kick-ass parties that week/weekend. Does anyone have the info??? I certainly dont. If the festival is going to suck then it seems drawing crowds away from the event to conflicting dj sets at clubs might be a way to not only create a stir and get a crowd, but also of taking back whats ours. Just hoping, if Im lucky, others might be thinking the same thing???!!! I dont know tons of details, but as far as I know Kenny Larkin is not planning on giving up music for comedy. I actually spoke with him about this subject because I to was concerned. His response was that he was relocating to California (LA I think he said) in order to persue his comedy. He did specify that he was definitely going to continue to produce and perform but is just changing his home base, ie traveling back and forth from that location. chana _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Welcome Phil, Welcome to Seattle We need you. Actually this has been a surprizingly busy summer here(for Seattle that is). When did you say your event is and where? I went to see the Detroit Grand Poo-Bas (sorry for the spelling) last Fri. Paris was totally sharp!! There was a small but good crowd there, most of whome seemed to know what they were listening to. I'm a sucker for the Jaguar which he played in the beginning and end of his set, putting his own spin on it. Just got his new record that is great too. Maybe I'm a cheese ball but I love the detroit track. Anyways he completely won me over. It was awsome to have a little Detroit in seattle...and there's more to come! Looking forward to the Juan Atkins, Stacey Pullen, and Swayzack show on the 28th chana From: Phil Chan [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: [313] intro Date: Tue, 25 Jul 2000 02:11:10 -0700 hi all, i've just signed up and am doing the introduction thing. i'm phil chan, an australian living in seattle. i play and produce techno/electro and am 1/3 of a label called southern outpost (http://www.southernoutpost.com) - hi patrick. i know it's not the most polite thing to advertise an event in the introduction email, but if there are people in the north-west then you know about the lack of techno nights in seattle and may be interested in the following event that some friends here and i are doing in seattle. ...beneath the surface... an evening of techno and tribal experimentation w/ special guest OLIVER HO (UK - Meta / Blueprint / Surface) additional harmonic tension _crafted under the sublime guidance of: tobias (CA - st) phil chan (AU - southern outpost) brahman (US - gr0k studios) iron monkey (US - gr0k studios) - more to be announced... hi again, phil. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
Re: [313] groovetech
I'm not having that problem, the sound is not that hot, especially the main stage sets (but there's a lot of extra noise happening,ie, ambient noise). But my connection is pretty clear, I get congestion about every 20 min or so but I consider that normal for 56k. Anyways I just wanted to say that I slobber in appreciation all over groovetech for bringing me as much good music as they can. I was overjoyed when I found out that DEMF audio was even available. I think groovetech is a stellar opperation. Thank you, thank you, thank you GROOOVETECH! Every time I try to watch the DEMF footage on Groovetech every 5 seconds it stops with net conjestion. Is my computer just shitty, or does everyone have this problem? I have the exact same problem. I havent been able to listen to more than about 3 seconds worth of ANY of the sets, and having to sit here listen to people talk about how good they are is driving me mad. I cant see how its my computer because I have a 56k modem, and I can watch realvideo stuff if its off the harddrive, but I guess it must be, because most other people dont seem to have a problem... Re: [313] UR in Ibiza 2000
Do you Jason or any one else on 313 know any thing else that is going on in Ibiza, Barcelona, and Seville from the 7th of August to the 20th? I am so happy to report that I will be in Spain that week. I'll be on the plane on Aug 6th so that's not possible, but the 13th is a good bet for me. To put it straight, how do I get there(The Privilege Club)? I'll be arriving in Barcelona. Getting to Ibiza sounds hairy too, especially in August. Never been to spain befor so wont know where I'm going. any info on club names, (preferaby clubs catering to our beloved detroit sound), street names, phone numbers, cheap hotels, package tours( not my normal choice, but have heard that its a sure bet of securing a room in high season)that are at all tollerable, etc. would be much appreciated. Also I wanted to thank everyone for their reports on the Detroit Festival. Since I could not be there myself I tried my best to live vicariously though your messages. It made me feel a weee-bit better Chana - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
