(313) Records for charity

2013-04-04 Thread Benn Glazier
Hey 313ers.

A little left of centre for the normal 313 chat, and it's good to see so
much going on here talk wise compared to usual :)

Anyway, I’m currently working on raising funds for developing education
programs for children in Uganda. In today’s economic climate that’s not
the easiest thing to do.

As part of this, I will be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro at the end of August and
I'm trying this out as an idea to raise funds - thought it might be a bit
of fun to organise too.

What I want to do is run an auction for artist autographed copies of music
and even merchandise for artists that have it. All profits will of course
to the cause and I am currently in discussion with the likes of ebay to
minimise the auction fees (or in their specific case, get the cause
listed). I'm also looking at teaming with some record stores to see what I
can do, and should I make this happen, promote it through channels like
Resident Advisor.

Interested? If so – drop me an email (b...@glzr.info) and we can discuss.
.
You can find out more info about my trek and charity at
www.kilimanjarocharitytrek.org.

Back to the music.

(313) records for sale, no ebay spam

2007-01-29 Thread tevans1111
Hi 313ers,
I am in the process of cleaning house and have 4-9 crates of records that need
to leave my posession. I am actually too lazy to list them all but am
accepting
wantlist from people. They range from early 90's through last year and consist
of lots of domestics from detroit and chicago/imports from everywhere else esp.
germany, obsessive collector that I have been there are tons of gems in great
condition. House, techno, experimental, electro, booty, hardcore, acid, and
some other 4-/4 related music.
I have sold on ebay for the last 10 years or so, my id is 23tomcat., feel free
to look me up, no negative feedback, but I would just rather sell direct with
no
ebay bs, for anywhere between 3-10 per record. If i have a few of the things
on
your wantlist and we can come to an agreeable price, that is what I am talking
about...
send me lists offlist please. tom

Um... I don't really understand what you're talking about. Are you
talking about Serrato, or what Google tells me is a South African
PsyTrance label?

Derek was playing records when I saw him in NYC, and he's played
records every time he's played in Iowa City. Maybe Derek does Final
Scratch sets sometimes, but it's not because he can't play records.
Derek is one of the OG midwest DJs*, and it's always a good time when
I've seen him.

If you want to beef with someone about music, that's fine but I
thought we already had the big fight over technology.

Re: (313) records in the basement (was late again)

2006-02-22 Thread Michael . Elliot-Knight

A dehumidifier would be a good place to start.
Also - get your records up off the floor and preferably into wooden boxes.
Getting the records further away from the cement basement floor will help
avoid any moisture/dampness that the cement attracts.
Boxes made of pinewood would be best as they are more porous than a hard
wood like oak - the wood will absorb the moisture that might otherwise
penetrate into the paper record sleeves.
Cool spaces are fine - cool dry spaces are better.

I can see the plastic milkcrates crates being useful in that the open
spaces allow for air flow but it looks like your records are pretty well
packed in them so that negates the benefit of the milkcrates. Plus,
plastic will repel moisture. Which means that it will have nowhere else to
go but into the paper sleeves of the records.
Get wood!

You could also add a small fan to keep airflow moving. Vornado makes an
excellent small fan that really moves air eventhough it doesn't oscillate.
They are a bit pricey as fans go but when the days get hot humid you'll
be glad you spend the extra cash.

I finally got my hands on fabrice's my 4 stars remixed EP. I know it's

have to say this is prime fl work. The ian o'brien remix does not
disappoint either.

Just a side note... I enjoyed fabrice's new stuff in the cold dank of my
basement. I've had to transport my entire setup from the attic, as we are
expecting a new addition to the family. I know that I will have to deal
with moisture issues when the climate warms up. Anyone have any thoughts
on
preserving vinyl in a mildy hostile environment? You can see the setup

I was really looking forward to hearing what marco passarani did to miss
kittens joint happy valentine (on the remix 12) but I was disappointed cause
it sounds like prog pop. BUT...Mad professor came through like a Champ! his
psychedelic dub-out is soo heavy! and his vocal treatments are
unparalleled. checka!

speaking of aphex, I heard someone's remix of window licker yesterday at the
shop. basically he just threw different beats under it. but the part where it
loses the glitch and goes all italobassy sounds sooo much better. didn't buy it
tho.

and anyone know who did the secret mixes and fixes with the rick james and
prince edits? like it a lot. Copped it. and I finally found another copy of DAN
RYAN! woo ho my copy has been beat for like two years.

Hey is there anybody that needs an original white of bounce-drop the ball or
deja-vu on electrofunk? They're too fast for me, but the shops got two in the
discount bin and nobody here's gonna buy 'em.

And whoever I was checking on that New Order -confusion -streetwise for...sorry
the other copy was gone when I went down. But for a decent trade, I might be

2004-10-14 Thread alex . bond
Bonjour Kids.

I'm bored.

So I'm going to talk about records.
Apologies to anyone this bores or the 2 seconds it takes to delete this
mail.

I'm nicking Tristan's style, and doing 20 sec reviews.

I've had recently:

Godson EP on Still Music: Killer, playing the inside track on the B. Big
drum workout, great dj tool. Good all round EP

Ultradyne on Black Label: Feckin 'ell. Killer. Playing A1 at about -7 and
it sounds ace. Killer electronic funk. really starts swinging at this
speed. Loving it.

Nwaq Strike LP: Beautiful electronics. soo deep. can't take the Sun
off the cd player.

Yoav B EP : Boogie Down Saturn. Liked the last one, loving this one too.
Rough housey/boogie electronic funk. Good tempo to play with all kinds,
great!

Shed on Delsin: 1 super ace techno track on here, just flicked the rest,
more reports after I've listened properly.

Got some other bits too, but I'm short on free time at the min, not had
chance to check properly.

Thanks

Alex

2004-10-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Axis 7s - I picked up 3 of these last weekend, the 'Absolute', 'Highlight'
and 'Contact' 'Special's. Really good - best Mills stuff I've heard for
some time. I remember it was quite a while back people were mentioning Axis
7s on here - was that these 3 or were there others before these? I bought
them as a set which weren't cheap at £15, guess they'd have fitted on a 12
EP which would have been cheaper, better for playing out and at home I'd not
have had to get off the sofa every 4 mins to change the record! (but must
admit to slight hypocrisy as there was certainly a touch of 'OOH! look at
the white Axis 7s' when I saw them).

Axis double whammy! Or actually I think this is on a new Axis sub-label
'Mission'. Anyway I don’t think I've seen anyone mention this on here, it's
by Jamal Moss aka Hieroglyphic Being (also has stuff on Spectral) and well
worth checking.

Juan Atkins 'Fast Forward' EP on New Religion. Every bit as good as Alex
has been promising.

I think the Axis 7's are the same ones that were
mentioned on here a while ago Francis. They were first
sold at Sonar and meant to be limited to 75 or
something daft like that but then they appeared on the
Axis online shop and then filtered down to record
shops too.

I burnt the debit card in Smallfish last night.

Cobblestone Jazz - 5th element (such a lovely track)
Studio 1 - Green Yellow on Kompakt
Some Traum stuff, Adam Kroll Riley Reinhold
Donnacha Costello - No. 6 (I think - really like this)
Brian Aneurysm
DBX - Lost Traxx EP
A 12 on Musik Krause
Manmade Science 12 on Philpott

Some other stuff - can't remember what though. I got the latest Mathew Jonson
12 on M_nus this morning. It's huge.

the rotating assembly though is definitely pretty weak overall. i

what i've picked up recently:

Matzo Pauli EP on Viewlexx -- special order; i had been looking for this for
months. This must be a repress as my copy is on plain ol' black vinyl instead
of the translucent red from the first run. :( it's still a great record -- i
love the slower, melancholy disco A-side.

Rhythim is Rhythim Beyond the Dance reissue

A Certain Ratio - The Graveyard and The Ballroom CD reissue. I can't believe
I've never delved into their backcatalog earlier. Great combination of albums
to put on one disc, as you get the archetypal Martin Hammett production on the
first half and a really good live performance on the second.

Syncom Data Solid Industries on Bunker -- solid indeed, very dark and sparse
and slamming. bet those responsible have been listening to a lot of Rob Hood
records lately...

UR Windchime -- two sides of greatness. gorgeous Strings/Jaguar-esque A
side, dark fast electro on the flip. both sides scream Detroit louder than a
photo of Hart Plaza.

On FXHE records (OAS #1). There is a message printed backwards on the
insert that sez 'The First in a series of Limited Edition one-sided
recordings from Omar-s and S muffuka'. It's a dark-sounding house track

that sounds almost drexciyan with this underwater synth loop and weird
scratchy wind-like effects over it.

Pepe Bradock - Un Pepe En Or Vol. 2

 new pepe?

No, this is an old one. However there are some excellent new Pepe Bradock
remixes of Candi Staton out this week on Honest Jon's. It's record of the
week at Piccadilly: http://www.piccadillyrecords.co.uk/

Don't really know myself. If anyone on the list has more info on this
release I would appreciate it. Picked this up from Wilhite's store...it
came with an insert that has some anime characters on it.
