Music that stretches to the horizon, I almost got completely lost in this. A great album, that may go down as a classic (it should imo). C a n ' t . w a i t . f o r . N o v e m b e r ! Marcellus Pitman - Come See/A Mix (Unirhythm) Very little seems to happen in this, yet somehow it's very good. Especially fond of the a side cut. I was going to say that I wish I knew how people achieved that, but I actually prefer the mystique. Quite glad I'm not initiated into the means of producing music sometimes. Not a very good explanation of the track - it's Beatdown, but you probably knew that. I'm feeling this too. I'm sure Tom's geeking out on the tape hiss. ;) I think I prefer his 12 on FXHE, mostly just because of Skylark, but both 12s are definitely worth getting. Move D - Kunststoff (City Centre Offices) Only recently discovered Dave Moufang, but I love his stuff. This album has depth and range, very good to listen to at home without deploying token eclecticism 'and now for the chill out track, etc'. He makes nice squelchy sounds too. That's one of my favourite mid-90s albums. I often revisit it. Love it. So this is getting re-released on City Centre then, eh? That's a very good thing. Any idea if there'll be a vinyl release as well, or just the CD as presently listed on Discogs? Has anyone heard his live release from 10/11/01 on Autoplate? http://www.discogs.com/release/630514 Gutted I missed grabbing that. :/ Can't seem to find the download or CD anywhere now and Discogs says it was pulled from Autoplate's site. don't know what to think of the terrace album .. The last track has a snippet of a bassline at the end .. Makes me wonder Ain't no vineyard .. But that's not what matters .. Although the compaund one reveals some wine .. What the moderator ep concerns .. I love that stark bassline ! Rest of the ep is a nice mixture of sweet sour with the sour 909 dice to be fallen right into the rachmad vain .. I'm not sure about Vector Lovers... There's better electro-pop out there They musta made mad $ off that advert though - was it Mercedes? If you're gonna get something on Soma, I'd go for that Silicone Soul album - a coupla nice trax on it. Great titles too. On the Detroit tip, how's that Disco D is working with Kevin Federline (Britney's boo). Will Kev's hip-hop album be the worst since Brian Austin Green? I'm surprised D would go near that one. ;) But maybe I'm just being a hater... any new Ruskin is good news. Just had a quick listen to the tracks, really nice! No vinyl though by the looks of things :( may have to get the CD anyway, I think the last CD I bought was 'Flora Fauna of Australian Sub-Tropical Rainforests' in '99 (which I can heartily recommend btw) so this will be in good company. Hey, so I maybe feeling sorry for myself because I can't afford records, but today I'm feeling like the kid in the playground everyone wants to beat up because he's got the super-coool new toy. So my new item is: A Kraftwerk Box Set woo! It comes in a nice little white box with 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 on the front. There's 8 CD's in there - most of the LP's digitally remastered. Each CD is in an individual card sleeve, with LP artwork. Only artwork that is different is Trans Europe Express, and on the back of each CD it says, 1, 2 etc and the tracklist. Don't know if there's anything different about the LP's as I haven't listened yet. It's very cool, and I'm very chuffed with it! Not sure where you can buy them from or how much they are. I dunno, don't think they're any different to anything he normally does, maybe I'm just in a kind of Eddie Fowlkes mood? I was into the track he did on the detroit beatdown LP too - anyone else get that..? Vol 2 is the one I've listened to most so far. 3 cuts, one using Martin Circus Disco Circus samples, a cut on the same side thats comes across like 33/3rd queen's Searching (or thats what it most reminds me of). Kind of a ravey sort of bassline, with some vocal sample detroit something or other - just some club gear that I reckon will be one of those things that pricks up your ears on a big system. On the flip, a kind of 'broken' techno cut that I need to listen to more before I shoot my mouth off. alex _ - End of message text This e-mail is sent by the above named in their individual, non-business capacity and is not on behalf of PricewaterhouseCoopers. starfighterz - 4 flavors of a 2 sided story pt1 (delsin) -- oh flavor 1 is pefect deep broken beat techno, sounding remarkably like old dan curtin..really really good!! beautiful sounds and melodies, this really brings back memories...flavor 4 on the b-side is not as creative or personal sounding to my ears, more of a familiar deep techno groove...reminds me a little of dimension 5 stuff...very nice, but hard to match the creativity and sharpness of flavor 1...great record tho! lovely enki bilal label art too ;) yeah the descriptions of this Starfighterz eally interested me on this one and it doesn't disappoint! melodic and detroit, yet also cutting into some new sounds too... everything I like about where the more soulful side of techy-beats. Delsin still bringin' the deep electronix. The Dan Curtin as reference point makes total sense. peace Matt MacQueen

Ahhh, then we must agree to differ! I REALLY didn't like the Cityboy stuff with Niko Marks- thought it lacked any real balls or inventiveness- the current releases are a mix of older material which never got released and some more up to date stuff- the tracks on CB16 in particular stand out as being highly individual pieces with respect! I think they're great, Eddie's best stuff for years. Best of the bunch for me is 'JC' from Vol 2 (I think) - very cool broken Recloose-esque vibe, loads of effects, great vocal loop - I can imagine it tearing up Co-Op. The other 12 is great too, in a more straight-up house vibe. Quality tunes! Cheers, Tom

aahhh..wutsup doc! :P yeah i'm anxious to get the two new headspaces! sounds like 2 gems dropped at once... and i have the new arne on technoir but havent gotten to listen to it yet.. iridite 4 is dope too! i think my two favorite tracks on there are the ones by marco bernardi (chugging deep techno, much deeper and better than he is known for previously i'm told..is hot!) and the poke (coming off like juan circa skynet, lovely) i also just got these: luckyeasy - pimp soul blister (ann aimee #3) -- nceee!! the a-side is a 11 minute track that mutates several times, is really more like 3 or 4 tracks...starts out with a great classic sounding swingy detroit bit, then a more spaced-out housey bit, then more idm-y/electro-y, very cool, nice journey...i really love that beginning especially, not far off from strand stuff!...b1 is a hazy idm-hiphop thing with some nice quiet growling sounds and lovely very soft strings and muffled melodic bits...very serene and laidback, but very nice. b2 is another mix of idm with hiphop and even a little bit of hip-house sounding beats, its pretty out there..more towards cim and previous luckyeasy i think, nice again... mos - goddess / razor (mos 001) -- more brilliant, classic sounding stuff from mos!...a-side has a short little intro of a bubbling delaying melody ala juan, followed by goddess which is all swirling deep pads and simple housey bassline, nice hats...very nice, but honestly not one of my favorite mos tracks. but the b-side brings razor which is one of my very favorite mos tracks...has that amazing bleak but warm but tense feeling of mos best stuff, little portamantoed chirps and yelps...brilliant, beautiful...it's kinda sleepy, but at the same time tense and exciting. just the most lovely mood. yeah. i love mos . then there's a short outro of beautiful undulating strings/pads.. starfighterz - 4 flavors of a 2 sided story pt1 (delsin) -- oh flavor 1 is pefect deep broken beat techno, sounding remarkably like old dan curtin..really really good!! beautiful sounds and melodies, this really brings back memories...flavor 4 on the b-side is not as creative or personal sounding to my ears, more of a familiar deep techno groove...reminds me a little of dimension 5 stuff...very nice, but hard to match the creativity and sharpness of flavor 1...great record tho! lovely enki bilal label art too ;) i'm way late to comment on these but oh well: jon slocum - upstairs at derrick's (mout-1) -- great first release on mout, side a is a 15 minute minimal epic, playing with an arpeggio, ascending/descending pink/white noise bursts, and eventually some nice meandering live-played pitchbending pads/chords...sorta reminds of old rob hood, but it has a bit more looseness and rawness, lovely...side b is equally great, a bubbling low-slung pretty drexciyan (the chords!) jam, real nice loose and live feeling again...dark and plodding beats and bass (808 cowbells and sticks making it kinda playful tho too) set off against lovely jazzy chords, very personal and creative..essential record i think! not at all what i was expecting given the electronic punkfunk description, which makes me think of hard-to-listen-to (imo) stuff like maurice fulton and dfa etc..this is way more soulful and deep to my ears, and just sounds like very funky, creative house techno to me... yotoko - all creation remix ep (delsin) -- o mannn...this record might be what makes me officially a broken beat fan...the all creation remix itself sounds to me like dbx doing a twisted dan curtin remix...so unique and minimal and funky and aww yeah. i really like mad daze too, dope pings and whistles and snarling bass and subtle guitar samples..sounds are organized really nicely, i dont remember being so into the nubian mindz lp or much other broken beat i've heard..maybe i should check it out again.. i suck at reviews/words today sorry jt ps will email you soon k!! out of contact but not at all forgotten..:) I'm back! I heard some great new releases coming up... Two marvelous moody, but light headed releases of Arne Weinberg. One on Headspace [way the go Tom!] and one on Technoir. If I could pick them out for a review somewhere I would've done them both !!! The magnificent talent of Rei Loci [Iridite prod] also surfaces on Headspace... and how! Funky 101 with a truckload of Soul and rhythms. : ) Wait till you hear the new Iridite my friends... YEEHAAAW! Dr. Nutcracker _ Want to check if your PC is virus-infected? Re: (313) new stuff
Hi Alex, while I'm at it, I have a q. which has been bugging me big time for the last week or so. That 'kdj' one sided release on Moods Grooves - the first, slower track. What's the sample? It's a famous track, but I can't think of what it is and its really bugging me because I either have the record or know it. argh. I think it is Stan Ivory His Magnificent Orchestra - Stans Theme wich is on that Ashley Beedle compilation on Strut. You can listen to that sample on www.groovetech.co.uk search for grassroots in the title box. Cheers, Maarten
Re: (313) new stuff
Good week for Detroit House Music; picked up. Amp Fiddler - Love and War (out monday) 3 Chairs EP - says on the label 'from the forthcoming LP', so something there to look forward to. 2 Moodymann releases on Peacefrog yeah tempted by the 3 tracker tho i might wait for the lp to land (does anyone know a date for the lp?) the version of emotional content on the 12 seems different from the one i know, is it? Rick Wade on Music Is ooh didn't know about that...rick's one of my fave house producers what's this like then? other 313 stuff i noticed around: dj3000 on motech (sounding good from the clips) ef2010 (house on electrofunk...from the bits i heard it's nice) two releases on wallshaker by aaron carl robin...

Hey, Robin and Alex, any of you guys heard the new Renaissance stuff too? Know when it/they're due out? Also, is Renaissance records solely distributed by Submerge? I think so... it is produced by Mr. 'De from Electrofunk. I really love those Renaissance tracks! Can't wait to get my hands on it. That new Suburban Knight Mix CD looks interesting as well!!! any of you guys heard the new Renaissance stuff too? Hey Ken, Well, I've heard one white label. I presume thats the first release? I didn't buy it It was kind of what I sort of describe as 'UR garage' and yeah, it was definitely a submerge thing, it had one of their stickers on. so, I'm no help again! The latest volume (4) of Every Dog has its Day on Axis is good, if perhaps not really diverting much from the sound of the previous 3.
