As far as the quality of these mp3s are concerned, I downloaded some at 320

Excellent write up!!! I loved every single line of it...

THE BIRTH OF A WHITE FLOWER*By Behindwoods Visitor Ram Anand (Malaysia)**The
views expressed in this column are that of the visitor. Behindwoods.com
doesn't hold responsible for its content.*
Some 18 years ago, singer Unni Menon was given a call way past midnight,
awoken in his slumber, and was told that accomplished director Mani Ratnam
is recording songs for his new film and Menon's voice was required for one
of those numbers. Who works at this hour, Menon asked himself. But due to
the fact that the name involved was called Mani Ratnam, Menon freshened
himself up and rushed up to the mentioned recording studio, where he saw a
 young composer calling the shots.

Mani Ratnam, who so often works with Maestro Ilayaraja, has discovered a new
talent to associate with in the music department. Menon wondered
continuously if this young guy- whose name is AR Rahman, could really live
up to the humongous expectations of having to compose for a Mani Ratnam
film. He was given the song lyrics, the tunes were discussed, and on the wee
hours of that one day back in 1992, Menon recorded a song called `Pudhu
Vellai Mazhai' (A new white rain), and went back home, back to his slumber.
The doubts that he had before recording the song existed even after that- he
didn't think he had sung the catchiest of tunes. Little did he know, that
when he went to sleep that day, just like lyrics of the song proclaims, he
has witnessed a new white rain, that will reign the Indian music arena over
the following two decades. All the uncertainties over the song that he had
sung vanished into thin air as he listened to the final version of the song
one day- and as he listened, he realized that this song is not catchy, but
instead it makes the hair on the back of one's neck stand up and applaud.

That AR Rahman back then was 26 years old. Today, as
 [image: AR Rahman]
he turns 44, that white rain has poured down not only in Tamil Nadu, but up
until on Hollywood's most famous stage- the Oscar stage. Rahman was the very
first composer in Indian cinema history to win a National Award for his very
first film, an award that he would go on to claim two more times. An
honorary doctorate and a Padmashri, India's fourth highest civilian honor,
are just a little peek into a mass collection of awards and applauds that
this modest, humble, soft-spoken name with an ever present smile on his face
has achieved in his career. That innocent smile never waned even as he stood
next and around the best luminaries of Hollywood while collecting his piece
of the biggest cinema cherry in the world, nor did it wane as he stood
flanked by beautiful girls in Akon's Beautiful Girls music video.

What is so special about his music, some may ask. Who introduced Hariharan
and Shankar Mahadevan, two of the most famous, most accomplished male
singers in the industry today? Who made Hariharan sing `Thamizha Thamizha'
with such sensitivity? Who is it that managed to evoke the atmosphere of an
unborn child who is going to be born into a world of chaos and uncertainty
through Vellai Pookal? Who is it that managed to re-create a 50s and 60s
atmosphere without sounding like direct throwback in Iruvar? Who is it that
re-composed India's national anthem with such passion and ferocity? Who is
it that made the whole nation re-kindle a long-buried Vande Matharam? AR
Rahman is not only a good composer, he is a symbol- a symbol of a nation
struggling to unleash itself from the strangling, rusting ropes of past
differences and attempting to move forward as one, as one whole country. He
is a symbol of passion, of the ultimate craftsmanship an artist could ever
express with his own work. Above all, he is the perfect symbol of an artist,
a celebrity. A man who has the talent to put the world at his awe, but has
the humility to not take all the credit for his achievements. A man who has
the calmness to rise above petty differences and embrace goodwill as his
nature, and has that smile that shows, without having to tell, that he loves
what he is doing, that we love what he is doing, and God loves what he is
 doing.

Ever lost hope? Ever lost faith in goodness? Ever lost faith in the beauty
of life? Ever lost faith in the impact of talent and artistry? Look up to AR
 Rahman.

Today as this man turns forty-four, there is no gift that we could possibly
give him that would override 18 years of him showering us with gifts of
music. But what we could do is to forget that he is forty-four, and make him
 immortal along with his music.

Many more happy returns of the day.

 For,

AR Rahman- You are the rare white flower (Vellai Poo) that tomorrow needs.
May there be more white flowers like you to come in this world.

2010-01-08 Thread Dinesh Scaran
On the contrary, Vaaji in Tamil had great lyrics, and Athiradee had a playful
and funny lyrics. Sahana had extremely beautiful lyrics too. Thanks to
Vairamuthu (who wrote both Vaaji and Sahana lyrics).

The lyrics of Balleleika in Tamil was typically a Rajini intro lyrics. He needs
to be praised, thus it is said Suriyano, Chandirano Yaarivano, Sattene
solle. The rest he was praising the greatness of Tamil soil and its culture.
About the hot idli and such. Im not sure whether it was directly translated
like that to Hindi, but for the Tamil audiences, it surely made us realize
those greatness of Tamil culture and habits tru the lyrics in this song.

Style The Boss lyrics were pretty much the same - because of use of
English. I am disappointed with the lyrics of Waahji Waahji but like the

 impressive.

I know it happens in Shankar's movies quite often (people found Humse Hai

Agree that its not easy to wait for Rahman's music but in any case, always
look at the positives. We do know that Shreya's song was recorded just like a
week before, would you have liked to have VTV cd with 6 songs and then get to
know that one song was not included (biggest example : Shauk Hai - Guru,
which never got released on CD, I know it released on that crappy mp3 CD).
Again would you have liked to songs properly mastered before getting
released? Obviously yes, because we as usual be first one to complain about
sound quality (Example - Blue cd got so many complain from fans).

There are always reasons for not CDs getting delayed in releasing and we
should not have any frustration as long as official released dates are not
announced (its difference case of 'on hold' /'stuck' CDs like Connection,
Provoked, BB, Boys, Sivaji etc.. that is more like unfortunate / sadness,
but I am sure there are also reasons behind them not getting released..
 hopefully they will release someday)

Don't go by what every sundry blog or obscure music store decides to tell
you. A launch event is scheduled based on the availability of the people in
attendance. Ideally, one would like to see the CDs release simultaneously.
But this is a time of the year it is difficult to co-ordinate schedules and
the event was held to accommodate people's schedules. The CD is currently
being mastered and is expected to release in the first week of January -
even on this it's only my indication and not an official communication from

The answer for ur Question :

Why VTV in London?
December 22, 2009
The team of Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya is a happy one. The audio launch of the
film was successfully held in London last week which was attended by the lead
pair Trisha, Silambarasan along with director Gautham Menon, A R Rahman,
singers Karthik, Chinmayee, Naresh Iyer, and Benny Dayal along with a few
London musicians.

Gautham Menon has returned to Chennai and for a poser on why the music was
released in London, he said, A R Rahman is a universal figure and to
demonstrate to the world that he belongs to Tamil Nadu, we held the audio
launch function in London. However the music of VTV will definitely be
introduced in Chennai also, added the director.

Simbhu has mentioned the movie is not a path-breaking movie but only a soft
romantic flick. So its better not to have any hype on the film at all. Just
take it relaxingly. But no doubt the fact that 'Love Based Story - A.R.Rahman +
Gautham Menon + Thamarai' will only mean a bombastic Audio! A.R.Rahman's music
for love subjects only means hardcore melody and everlasting tunes. Take
Sillunu Oru Kadhal for instance. :)

hahaha... i liked that last line of ur msg. Yeah guys, lets just wait. All i

true, those songs r great. but why i chose Vellai Pookal is because this song
had a very delicate touch and more soft approach towards the world, which is
more of ARR's style.Loved the way ARR sang the song. Ofcource, Vairamuthu
writes the best when it comes to ARR. :D There isnt anyone that is born yet to

2009-08-18 Thread Dinesh
True, not to say inconsistent in musically, but just miss those old days where
its ARRahman's songs being played everywhere. Living in a Tamil comunnity
(where Hindi songs r alien, MOST OF THE TIME), its like living without ARR's
music. So if there is a function or a show, its like only 1 or 2 ARR songs being
played, where the rest, around 20 songs r non-arr. Its painful to go through
this. Hope to see Vinnaithaandi varuvaiya becomes an anthem. Awaiting eagerly
for 2nd Sept.

[arr] Pune does it again...... ROOBAROO (Acoustic Show of ARR songs ) !

2009-08-17 Thread Dinesh Vaidya
The home to the The Wandering Soul's show Rahmania, Pune witnessed yet
another show but of a different kind and by a different group. only common
thing ? love for ARRahman's melody !

A group called ROOBAROO in Pune took their first step in the world of Rahman
music on 22'nd July by performing ARRahman's choicest songs in front of select
audience. In what way they were different than the TWS Rahmania show ? well
they had exactly 3 guitars and a rhythm-man to accompany 2 lead vocalist ! Call
that UNPLUGGED show or Acoustic show, but to me this was a novel concept
showcased by Saurabh Bhalerao who felt the need to get close to the Rahman
melody sans the orchestration and the show simply rocked !

Since there was no pressure on the showcasing minutest details about ARRahman
sound which RAHMANIA team of TWS tries to get closer to, the ROOBAROO team
could experiment a lot with the song selection and presentation and thus could
play some (probably ) un-usual songs like Shauk Hai - Guru, O re chhori -
Lagaan, Luka Chuuppi - RDB, Tu Bin Bataye - RDB and many more in a
non-stop 2 hour show.

This show is certainly for diehard ARR fans, for you HAVE to know all the songs
they play so that your mind is playing it's own track alongwith the unplugged
version on stage.

The group comprises of professional singers and instrumentalists and led by
Saurabh and assisted by Rasika and Nishad on Vocals.

It is a welcome effort by Roobaroo and certainly many more such programmes will
be happening in near future and on behalf of all RAHMANIACS of the World, I
wish them best of luck ! May the Rahman Sound be always with them

There is something special in the air of Pune (and Mumbai..counting Swapnil
Mistry and his gang ) for sure

Jai HO !

2009-08-04 Thread Dinesh
Taimur, im really really touched by the love u have for Kangalal Kaithi Sei
songs. Seriously, its the most complete album of ARR in the past few years,
IMHO ofcource, that has not been matched since then. All the songs had THE ARR
PUNCH all over that when u listen to them, u wont want to skip any parts or
stop it anywhere in the middle. :)... Truly the kind of ARR Album that im most
into. :)

Btw, the audio made it BEFORE the movie released. After the movie got released,
it pulled the songs down along with the movie's fate. If im not mistaken, the
movie was taken out of the theater after 2 -3 days of its release. Same goes to
Kadhal Virus.

--- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, taimur.nadeem taimur.nad...@... wrote:

  HI everyone,
this is a review of my most favorite tamil song of AR RAHMAN.
ITS the most surprising and unique song. do read the review its by SWAPS . i
really liked it , it narrates the whole song brilliantly . i wanted to share
with you people. its long but do read it and do listen to theekuruvai at that
 time. here you go

Theekkuruvi (Harini, Mukesh, Johnson; lyric by Thenmozhi):

ARR chooses Harini to sing along with 2 newcomers- Mukesh Johnson. The
song starts with a fast moorsing-like instrument immediately followed by
Johnson's lines. The lines r quite interesting, 'Edhoma edho maadhiri...'
which instantly catch ur attention. Johnson has a typical raw folk voice
(like Maharajan, M.S.V., Shahul, etc.) this proves to be an advantage here.
Thruout the song, u'll hear temple bells which adds to the ancient/ vintage
 flavour of the song.
After that, u'll really have to lend ur ears close to ur speakers. In the
beginning, u'll not understand a word. Its sung so fast., 'thalaival ivathaan
sillendru pattaa, kaadhal ivathaan sullunnu suttaa'. Its like those folkmen
singing while working or travelling. After these lines, ARR creates an
ambience for the song by reproducing wind wave sounds. Harini begins the
song which somewhat seems like a tongue-twister! For others, it may sound
wierd. But the melody used is extremely engrossing captivating. ARR has
used a blend of ragas like Hamsadhwani, Shankarabharanam, Arabhi, Kalyani.
The chords which he gives in each line r amazing. Its like filling empty
 spaces.
In the last lines 'Theeyinai thee nadhiyinil thaedukiraay thandhiraa', Harini
stops at upper Sa then beautifully decends to the lower Sa with a brisk
taanam encompassing all the notes(Sa Ni Dha Pa Ma Ga Re Sa). Mukesh takes
over the rest of the pallavi which is prettymuch the same. The percussions r
westernised while the melody is purely Indian. This can be called a true
fusion. Everytime, they finish the pallavi, Johnson takes over with the
opening lines. The 1st interlude is quite brief, with just a small piece of
 the flute.
The piece tends to shift towards raga Kalyani employing the Teevra Madhyam
 towards the end.
The charanams r equally challenging to sing. The female part is handled very
well. Harini's voice has been blended cleverly where she sings the same lines
in both upper lower pitches. In the 1st charanam, Harini sings 2 lines
Mukesh takes over. The lines 'Idayoara moondraam piraye muththam aendhi vaa'
employ a Shuddha Madhyam which really enhances the beauty of the song. This
is the part where the raga shifts to Shankarabharanam.
The 2nd interlude is awesome. After Johnson finishes his lines, ARR uses an
electronic Mandolin (previously heard in 'Malargale' from Love Birds). Its
quite a short piece but is played with great speed command. U wish this cud
continue for longer! When Mukesh starts the 2nd charanam with an alaap, his
voice has been digitally modulated with cuts. Harini sings the rest of the
charanam. But the real magic starts towards the end. While Harini ends the
song, ARR layers her alaaps. She begins from the Upper Sa to the lower one,
Upper Re to Lower Re finally to upper Ga. This is called Meend in
Hindustani terms. And then, everything stands still when u hear her
double-speed taanams. God! she's too good. Its really difficult to take
taanams at this speed. U feel like applauding already!
Finally, Johnson Harini attempt a jugalbandi. Johnson sings his lines
'Thalaival ivathaan sillundra pattaa' then Harini sings the taanams Pa Ni
Sa Re` Sa Ni Pa, 3 times. The 'vote of thanks' is done by Naveen's
ever-dependable flute. He plays the main tune of the song in his style while
the temple bells create a climax by rounding up with the notes of
Hamsadhwani. This song has a typical Kerela flavour u'll agree when u
listen to the song 'Padakaali' from Yoddha. Malayalam folk songs have this
speciality of singing in double-speed . This is definitely one of the best
composed songs. Actually, the lyrics r so catchy that even if u dont
understand a word, it amuses u to the core. There's a certain degree of
 anxiety curuosity

The Hindi audiences are not as harsh as the Tamil audiences to the foreign
singers. U must see the series of some guys blogging on Singers like Udit
Narayan, Madhushree, Sadhana Sargam, Roop Kumar Rathod etc etc.

But i do know Chitra has a very thick South Indian accent to her Hindi songs.
Esp taht number from Armaan of SEL.

But at the end of the day, we should look to their talent that how they handle
the songs despite not understand the song fully and still make it a hit. :)

mark with Hindi diction. Subah, Khwab etc dont sound like a native
 speaker singing it.

Both of them are excellent singers but when Malayalam is your first language
then speaking Hindi becomes very difficult. क,ख,ग is not
easily distinguishab le. Not meant to hurt any Keralites as I am one. My
parents have been speaking Hindi for 40 odd years and still cant get some

[arr] Re: Revisiting Karuthamma(1994)- A Rustic Rural Score

2009-08-03 Thread Dinesh
lovely review.. but no doubt Karuthamma is indeed a World Level best creations
product of ARR. This album will be remembered for ever and ever and u cant
create another Karuthamma no matter what. It stands out! :)

--- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, ARRvind arr_arv...@... wrote:

Karuthamma!! The very name sounds like a south indian village belle whose
story forms the crux. The main credits to be rolled out here are :

 Direction: Bharathi Raja

Star Cast : Raja, Maheshwari, Rajashri

Music : A R Rahman (Not sure about the background score though!)

 Lyrics : Vairamuthu

Bharathi Raja, who is a thespian in making village based movies comes up
with this triangular love story with lesser known actors. This must be the
first time collaboration of the director with ARR who was until then dubbed
as the technology backed musician. ARR broke all records with this movie
along with other village based Kizhakku Cheemayile and Vandicholai Chinnarasu
and proved all critics wrong and how!!. It made every critic run and hide
their face..!! BR - ARR - Vairamuthu combo has been
  very artistically successful than commercial.!

Theanmerku Paruvakaatru --- Unni Krishnan , Chitra

It was a dream offer for Unni who was until then singing only solos, got
a chance to sing his first ever duet and with whom..? His most favourite
singer Chitra..!!! (based on excerpts from his interview). The song begins
with droplets with a soothing drumbeats..!! Followed by the ever soothing
nightingalish voice of Chitra with her lines...and then Unni repeats her
lines..Though he is a legend in classical arena, he goes very mushy and
romantic in this song showing his lighter side. The interludes, particularly
the second interludes mesmerises like heavans...!!! The water droplets sound
in the background throughout the song makes the listener feel the rain
without visually seeing the song. The last charanam by Chitra is just
hummingand what an effect she leaves
behind is only to be experienced..!!! Amazing romantic song...!!!

Pachhaikili Paadum --- Minmini , Shahul Hameed, Chorus

Welcome to the world of Cocks, Hens, Bulls and Birds and some rustic
country side voice tones of Shahul Hameed and Minmini. Shahul is like 100%
perfect pick for this song. This song is  melodious and  folksy as well.
Sadly, did not get the deserved recognition it should have got.  The female
chorus part is also equally charged up and dub some of the animatic sounds.
Particularly, hear it carefully when Minmini goes Kondattam...indru
thendralukku dinam dinam..., a donkey hee-haaws in rhythm. Only ARR can make
a donkey sound in rythm..  ;) . Full masti and entertaining song...!!!

Kaadu Potta Kaadu -- Malaysia Vasudevan, Bharati Raja, T K Kala

The two thespians Malaysia Vasudevan and Bharati Raja unite in this
very situational song. Cannot be termed as the best by ARR. He has casually
belted out this number with some nice flutes and chords. Certainly will not
appeal to the listeners unless they are live and breathe the country air. T K
Kala enters only in the second interlude BGM with her traditional pathos
flavoured voice. Could have sounded even more better for me..!!!

Aaraaro Aariraaro --- T K Kala, Theni Kunjarammal

A great choice of singers by ARR for this heart wrenching
tragedy piece. I really dont know how Theni Kunjarammal sounds in-syc even if
she goes out of pitch many times especially for the patho songs. Its this
particular wonder that she got many offers from ARR. And nothing to say about
T K Kala. Its completely her genre. She adds a special warmth that cannot be
easily ignored. The music is completely minimal here and yet sounds great in
 the background.

Pooraale Ponnuthaayi (Happy Version) -- Unni Menon, Sujatha

The Pudhu Vellai Mazhai jodi Unni and Sujatha re -unite in this happy
version of Porale Ponnuthayi. A mindblowing melody with nice interludes and
humourous lyrics. The same happy version was re-used by ARR as Chanda
Taare.. with Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan saab..!!! I absolutely marvel at
this knack of ARR to make a same song sound in completely contrasting genres.
 Hats off to him..!!

Poorale Ponnuthaayi (Sad Version) --- Swarnalatha

For me, personally, Karuthamma is synonymous with Swarnalatha...and its
just because of this song..!! She has typically lived in the skin of the
character while rendering this heart melting wonder..!! And rightly so, was
the recepient of the prestigious National Award winner for the Best Playback
Singer Female of that year..!!! Be it her initial aalaps, her haunting
pallavis and charanams and the long breathless finishing towards the end
moves any music lover to tears.! ARR uses very minimal instruments very
carefully as to not come in the way of her rendition.! Easily THE BEST song
 produced from this fantastic combo..!!

Ive always stressed on how beautiful Sneghidene has been. EVen its Hindi
version, Chupke Se is no where near Sneghidene. I duno why, perhaps the 1st
take (Sneghidene) was done too perfectly that the second version sounded dull.
Its my all time ARR fav. Loved the way how Sadhana goes Valvin yellai varai,
vendum vendum, Valvin yellai vara vendum vedum meeyyy.. the way she says the
Mey was just too good. Dunno if its her own style or ARR made her sing like
that. Coz in Chupke Se for that part she went AIK!! which really irked me!

Alaipayuthey as a whole album stands out among ARR's album, praise Delhi 6,
Rang De Basanti, Sivaji, Silunnu Oru Kadhal, and what not, but when u listen to
Alaipayuthey, it just gives u this pleasant heavenly feeling. It stands out!
Truly!

[arr] The Wandering Souls celebrates 6 years of RAHMANIA shows !

2009-07-24 Thread Dinesh Vaidya
Last Saturday, on 18'th July, RAHMANIA concert team of The Wandering Souls
celebrated their 6'th year in the AR RAHMAN University of continuous Education
by giving a CRISP and PROFESSIONAL performance of their hit show RAHMANIA in
Chinchwad city ( close to Pune ).

This time, the group had practiced quite a few new songs and used new
technology. For the first time we used 48 track DIGITAL mixer console with
linear-array speaker system, the next best available is the one they use for
the mega concerts like Jai Ho concert.

The group is led by Anmol Bhave, a renowned National Award winner Sound
Engineer and we also have two more sound Engineers in our team, Nikhil Mulay
and Pinak Agate, both will complete their Sound Engineering Degree from FTII
soon. Moreover the flautist Satyajit Kelkar is an accomplished Sound Designer
and owns his own Sound studio in Pune, so the emphasis on correct RAHMAN
sound is the backbone of all RAHMANIA shows.

The show started with Jaage Hai - from Guru, the full version, one of the
songs we attempted for the first time. The other new songs we performed were...
Nahin Saamne tu - Taal,
Genda Phool - Delhi 6,
Yeh Dilli hai meri jaan - Delhi 6,
Lukka Chuppi - RDB ( complete with Rahman-Lata Aalap ),
Ringa Ringa - SDM,
and a small medley of Tu Mera Dost hai - Yuvvraj + Guzarish - Ghajini and
one from JTYJN.

The group had taken lot of care and efforts in replicating the special ARR
SOUND. We played SITAR live on stage with Nahin Saamne tu Apart from
these, we had our usual hit numbers such as Chupke se Hasti Rahe tu from
Saathiya, Yunhi Chala chal from Swades, Khwaja Mere Khwaja from JA, Patriotic
Medley, Bombay theme and Tuhi Re from Bombay, Dilse Re and Ay Ajnabi from Dil
se, Chandralekha from Thiruda Thiruda and Maiyaa Maiyaa from Guru.

The show-stealers were certainly Lukka Chuppi / Genda Phool and Yeh Dilli hai
meri jaan.. virtually all songs were received with a request for
once-more and the group obliged by accepting a few of them.

As we are going closer and closer to the Rahman sound, we find that the
target resets and we find that we have to do a lot more to reach the new
position... ARR's songs are so much multi-layered that the more deep you go
in it, the more new layers you find and what I appreciate about this group is
that they are extremely passionate about ARRahman's music and are extremely
loyal to their GURU in preserving the quality and freshness of the sound in
each of their performance.

All TWS artists, singers, musicians deserve full marks for attempting the most
difficult and challenging songs of ARR, and the group also delivered the
performance in style. I would mention here Parashar Joshi, who came in as a
last minute replacement due to accident to another singer and what a
performance Parashar gave ! Superb !

TWS has been invited by quite a few media / event management companies and
sponsors, almost 2 concerts per month and that's certainly a huge
encouragement for the group.

Almost all TWS members are on Rahman Fans Yahoo group, so we can certainly say
that this is an exclusive band of the Yahoo group ?

The Wandering Souls owes their 6 glorious and melodious years of existance to
AR Rahman and his loyal fans.THANK YOU !

With best regards

After the stupendous success of the film Vaaranam Aayiram starring
Surya, Sameera Reddy and others, Gautham Vasudev Menon is currently
directing a breezy entertainer titled “Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaayaa”
starring Silambarasan and Trisha in the lead.

 The film which has
been under production has been shot extensively at Chennai, Kerala and
Malta. With an urban look to it, the story is set between two young
people who fall in love… The film is almost complete with some portions
and the climax to be shot. The authenticity and mood of the film is
maintained by shooting at some realistic ambience in and around Chennai
and some picturesque locations at Allepey, Kerala.

 A much
awaited musical from the Oscar Award Winning Composer A R Rahman, the
film is sure to churn out some magic in its own special way, rendering
some unforgettable and soulful numbers in the composer’s style, shot to
the creative visuals of Director Gautham. The musical got a shot in the
arm when Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaayaa’s music director A R Rahman was
nominated for 3 Oscars and bagged two. With five song situations in the
film, three songs have been composed already, out of which two songs
have been shot extensively in Malta at some virgin locations.

 The
song “Hosanaa”, sung by Vijay Prakash of “Jai Ho” fame, penned to the
lyrics of Thamarai and a rap by Blaze is a sure hit among the young
crowd for its peppy beats and stunning visuals shot by Manoj
Paramahamsa at Malta corresponding to the stylized choreography by
Flexy Stu of Adiye Kolluthey fame.

“Omana Penne” written by Thamarai too and sung by A R Rahman himself,
holds a style of its own in the way it has been sung and programmed.
This song too has been shot at Malta with choreography done by Flexy
Stu and is a sure favorite for all A R Rahman fans!

 Manoj
Paramahamsa (cinematographer) with his captivating visuals adds to the
beauty of the film, with the ambience authenticity envisioned by
Rajeevan (art director) and the crisp cutting of Anthony (Editing).

 Nalini
Sriram adds to the appearance of the film with striking costumes for
all the actors in the scenes and songs. The costumes made for the songs
are eye catching elements that are hard to be missed by the audience!

The film also has Ganesh, Babu Anthony, Kitty, Uma Padmanabhan and Lakshmi
 Ramakrishnan playing pivotal roles.

The film is produced by Madan and Ganesh (Escape Artists Motion Pictures) and
 Kumar and Jayaraman (R.S.Infotainment).

The film is slated for release during the second week of November 2009.

The above information is sent by the Film's PRO Nikil.. As the movie
is slated for a november release, we can expect the songs by October.

Only 2 songs by ARR: Vinnaithandi Varuvaya
IndiaGlitz [Friday, July 17, 2009]

Hoping to create an unseen charm Silambarasan and Trisha are gearing up to pair
up again with, `Vinnaithandi Varuvaya' after `Alai'. Directed by Gautham Menon
the music scores of the movie is handled by the man who has been playing the
tunes with great passion, over the years. As the title hints of the memorable
romantic song, `Vinnaithandi Varuvaya' will have the same music director of the
`Minsara Kanavu'.

There is an interesting yet heartbreaking change in the already know fact that
the Oscar winner A.R. Rahman will be composing for `Vinnaithandi Varuvaya'.
The musical maestro was supposed to compose five tracks altogether but, as his
dairy is over flowing post Oscar; he has opted to stop with just two songs. It
is worthy to note that both the songs are said to be romantic and the shooting
for those two songs are done.

Now this would be a blow for the audio companies who have tied their confidence
to the movie's songs, assuming the songs would be composed by the great
musician. Now that the film makers are looking out for other composers for the
remaining three songs, audio companies are hoping on for a steady taker.

Every cloud has silver lining. So, Hope for the best people!

No problem with A.R.Rahman: Gautham
By Moviebuzz | Friday, 17 July , 2009, 09:11
Gautham Menon is trying to investigate who is behind rumours about his fall out
with A.R Rahman? We caught up with the ace director for this conversation

How is Vinnaithandi Varuvaayaprogressing?
The film is moving at brisk pace. We are going to New York for a schedule where
some crucial scenes of the film including climax will be shot. We also plan to
shoot a song there.

The rumour mill says that you had a fall-out with AR Rahman, the music director
of the film. Please comment?
Some vested interest has been spreading all kinds of lies that I have fallen
out with Rahman over payment issues. On the contrary we are on the best of
terms, as he has given outstanding music for VV. I will hand over the film to
him in August and he will start re-recording and background score. We plan to
release the film for Diwali. ARR has composed three extraordinary songs which
have already been shot. They are of international quality and he will be
recording the next two songs soon.

When did you last meet Rahman?
Recently, I met Rahman at his home in his Los Angeles and the first thing he
asked me was about this baseless rumour doing the rounds. He asked me why
people are writing such crap without checking facts with us. Let me tell you
that Rahman signed Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya much before he won the Oscars, after
hearing the script. He was impressed by the simple, feel-good love story. And
after winning the Oscars and going truly International, he did not increase his
fee as he knows the Tamil film market and the logistics more than anyone.

Can you elaborate on the songs?
Hosanaa, sung by Vijay Prakash ( Jai Ho.. fame) with Thamarai's lyrics and a
rap by Blaze will be a sure hit among the young crowd for its peppy beats and
stunning visuals shot by Manoj Paramahamsa at Malta with stylized choreography
by Flexy Stu. The second song Omana Penne… written by Thamarai and sung by A R
Rahman himself, holds a style of its own.

What is the budget of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya?
We have shot the film on a large scale and the budget will be around 14 Crore.
It is a big budget film shot in some exotic locales of New York, Malta and
Kerala. It is a stylishly shot love story.

Both Simbu and Trisha have a new look in the film?
Simbu has 2 or 3 looks in the film. Trisha looks fresh and wears mostly cotton
saris in the film. After Minnale, it will be my next out and out love story
with outstanding music, a feel good romantic entertainer .

Rahmania is an attempt to bring this genius out of the listeners hearts and

Taimur, i must say its the wrong place u pour ur feelings out. Many here are
not going to reply politely to u. These are some of the examples. Just relax
and listen to his old albums. Thats more than enough if u ask me.

In the mean time, listen to Aayirathil Oruvan songs, by G.V.Prakash. The songs
r mindblowing. Quality speaks out loudly in this album. Something of which i
have never heard in years. Great scores. Give it a shot. It is sure to fill up
those gaps in u. :) Ive been listenin to this album only ever since it came out
! :D

2009-07-12 Thread Dinesh
Actually, i never found any flaw in Sneghidene song. It was PERFECT for me.

But i notice that the 'emotion drop' in ARR's song nowdays only. The most
obvious one is Munbe Va - Sillunu Oru Kadhal, when u were such in a lovely
emotion mood ever since the song starts up to 2.23, it drops down at 2.24
(thoolil... oru sila naalil..). Something didnt feel right there. But i
think its an experimental thing of ARR's. Something different. :)

I accept that our Boss ARR delivers an exceptional quality of music.
What I meant to say is he is best the ENGINEER for acoustics, I meant the
  literal meaning of ENGINEER.
Any one should accept that ARR concentrates more on acoustics, even he
  himself accepted.
That's the part where I like him the most and best in the current industry.
To just tell an example, for the film Roja, the famous song which starts
with flute ( in telugu - naa cheli rojave, naa lo vunnave ), ARR asked H
Sridhar to capture the sound of floating air over the Flute rather than core
  sound of Flute.
That's how ARR advises his team and concentrates more on acoustics.
I accept his productivity is exceptional, but the only thing is he drops
the emotion of a song's tune in the middle.

  R U Listening Mr. ARR .. ?

[arr] RAHMANIA show in Pune - 18'th July ! All invited !!!

2009-07-06 Thread Dinesh Vaidya
The Wandering Souls of Pune is pleased to invite all RAHMANIACS of the world to
join them in Chinchwad-PUNE on 18'th
July ( Saturday ) evening at 7PM in Ramkrishna More Auditorium ( PCMC
Auditorium ) where they will be presenting their programme RAHMANIA - A
Journey through the life and philosophy of AR Rahman.

This show is our appreciation and continued celebration of Rahman's numerous
achievements this year, both domestic and international, capped with the twin
Oscars. This year has been a HUGE one for AR Rahman and as loyal fans of him we
are proud of his achievements.

This year also has been a HUGE one for The Wandering Souls RAHMANIA  team.
They got a chance to meet ARR, practiced with him and then accompanied him on
Drums for one full song and 2 medleys ( consisting of 5 songs ) in the recent
JAI HO concert of May 31'st in Pune.

The memories are too many and will never fade away...

The short but extremely meaningful interaction with Rahman in Pune taught us a
lot as we personally experienced how simple / humble and dedicated person he
is. His support and acknowledgement of RAHMANIA team was something we never
expected but we will never ever forget this gesture by him.

TWS and ImaginationEvents invite you to enjoy the new presentation of
RAHMANIA. new songs
and Medleys are planned by the group.

Venue : Ramkrishna More Auditorium, Chinchwad Pune 33 ( Also called as PCMC
Auditorium )
Date : 18'th July SATURDAY

I also bought a copy and have completed reading the entire book. I enjoyed the
book NOT AS A BIOGRAPHY but as a dis-connected writeup by a journalist.
Strictly speaking, it is not a biography because it is not a straight year to
year account of Rahman's life from childhood till date. This book is based on
topics and each topic has been dealt with independently without any connection
with other topics.

The language is simple and flowing and I enjoyed the book, let me admit,
especially the topic THE WAIT, especially truly hilarious screenplay by Jawed

2009-06-30 Thread Dinesh Vaidya
About this JAI HO matter, I have been asked this question sometimes and this
is what I have replied

Point put forth by some who are not happy about JAI HO
A. Other Rahman songs deserve the Oscar but not Jai Ho (?)
B. Jai HO is not a good song to get oscar (???)

reply 1 Inspite of their feeling, Jai Ho got Oscar, so they should
remember that their Will is now Nil. Jai Ho GOT OSCAR ! Take that !
reply 2 Other Rahman songs or their movies were not in the list for
nomination this year. Jai Ho was in the list, it was a good song so Jai Ho got
oscar !
reply 3 The Oscar team checked the 4-5 nominations this year and felt that
Jai Ho was certainly outstanding song compared to others, so awarded the
Oscars.
reply 4 Jai Ho was destined to get Oscar IT WAS SO WRITTEN, now thinking
otherwise is purely academic.

As a Rahmaniac, it is but natural for me to KNOW that JAI HO, like all Rahman
songs, is an outstanding track..

If someone feels otherwise, do I care ?

[arr] Sincere request to UNIVERSAL MUSIC ! Connections !!!

2009-06-29 Thread Dinesh Vaidya
Dear Universal Music !

We have been enjoying your company's presentations for so many years now. Also
as loyal fans of ARRahman, we always look forward to his music releases. I find
that UNIVERSAL has released ONE song Jiya Se Jiya for now as Connections
Album. Will the remaining 8 tracks get released similarly in one song - one
album at a time ? ( total 9 albums ? )

All loyal fans of Rahman, are keen to buy official Connections album, but if it
is going to be released track by track, buying 9 albums / cds overall is
something beyond our financial means, atleast for me.

Is there no way that we can buy this as ONE compilation CD ?

After a long time Rahman has done an independent and a CLASSY album and this
CONNECTIONS album is OUT OF THIS WORLD ! You are worried about piracy ? But if
you release this album, all Rahman fans would like to buy this as this
certainly going to be a cult album and something to keep for LIFE !

Afterall we, the Rahaman's disciples, are like our GURUJI, we go for best and
ORIGINAL stuff !

Please look into this request and release all 9 tracks at one go !

Eagerly waiting for your positive response,

Award winner AR Rahman is no exception

Reports by certain sections of the media had stated that Rahman, owing ot his
international popularity, had doubled his fee for all projects, including
 Gautham Menon's Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya

It was also stated that a spat had thus ensured between Rahman and the film's
crew, with the former, finally opting out, after handing over all the songs
Ask Gautham Menon if it is true that Rahman will not be doing the background
score for Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, and the director gets nothing less than
furious. What rubbish! I am with Rahman right now in his studio, working on
the film's music, explains the director, who is in Los Angeles

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya has Simbhu and Trisha in the lead, and is being

The film has six songs, Gautham explained
This is the first film of Gautham Menon's with a music director apart from
Harris Jayaraj. Rahman was said to compose the music for Gautham's Chennaiyil
Oru Mazhaikaalam and it is now learnt that the composer might be using tunes
from that film in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya. Chennaiyil Oru mazhaikaalam, which

Im very sure ARR did the BGM for One 2 Ka 4. Dun 4get Nethukitten's beat/music
was one of One 2 ka 4's BGM. The BGMs were Typical ARR. Maybe Gops or Vijay
could throw some lights on this. But im very sure Atleast half of One 2 Ka 4's
BGM was done by A.R.Rahman. The Khamoshiyan gungunane bgms were typical ARR.

[arr] MAX Singer Who is the one ? (TILL DATE )

2009-06-24 Thread Dinesh Vaidya
The contest of single song wonders is won hands down by Swapnil Mistry of
Mumbai ! Well done Swaps ! too good !

Let's go to the other extreme now.

Who is the singer having sung the MAXIMUM number of songs till date with Rahman
? Lets do it this way, we will name TOP 5 singers with numbers of songs and
that will give us automatically the winner of max songs.

Your time starts NOW

My quick pick without any numbers ( so not the right one )

AR Rahman himself / Sukhvinder / Hariharan / Alka Yadnik / SPB ?

What's your analysis ?

Best regards

Yeah, she looks like a white girl. But the singer of Thee Thee has to be a
Chinese, coz her Chinese accent in the song is very obvious (minaKKum becomes
mina KUUM, Serevva becomes Serawah).

[arr] Re: Keep adding!

2009-06-23 Thread Dinesh
Im still surprised that many ARR fans here r not exposed to the Original
versions and listen only to the dub versions (Hindi). I understand about u guys
understand Hindi language and not Tamil, but i feel as an ARR fan, u wouldnt
wanna miss the songs eventhough if its the same song, but different language.
Infact, the Originals had always sounded better as the tune was composed for
the lyrics. Hey, even im a Tamilan and i listen to all his tracks, i have heard
everything, his Telugu dubs from Tamil, Hindi dubs from Tamil, Tamil dubs from
Hindi and Telugu and so on. I always know some of the dub songs will have
different feel which might impress me more. :)

For example i have heard Chor Chor and Thiruda Thiruda. Thee Thee from Thiruda
Thiruda had a Chinese girl singing the track, which absolutely gave the song a
new dimension and feel. Dil hai sanam dil from Chor Chor on the other hand
sounded like a normal Indian song with the usual rendition of an Indian singer.
Thee Thee had some power within it, becoz of the crisp singing by the Chinese
girl.

I just hope to see ARR fans are always aware of Tamil his albums, coz they r
really really special no matter how good the dubbed version sounds. Its time u
guys just go back to some online sites and listen to them, we dun have any new
releases now, its a good time. :)

brands ranging from Hero Puch to Leo Coffee, would you? Or are you,
for that matter, aware that he's lending the soundtrack to an IMAX
production titled Heart of India? And have you the distinction of
being physically present at all concerts the music director has had on
 Indian soil till date?

Chances are you haven't. That is what makes people like Gopal
Srinivasan and Vijay Aiyar a special breed — a breed that has been
steadily growing for the past decade or so to now include some 15,000
music-crazed men and women who live, breathe and swing to A.R.
Rahman's magic for every living moment. Welcome to the real A.R.
 Rahman fan club.

It's funny how a simple initiative on our part went such a long way
in bringing Rahman fans together, says Srinivasan, a Hyderabad-based
software professional. All we wanted to do was form a forum where
people could interact with one another and contribute to an
information pool about the life and works of our favourite musician.
But look how far it has come now.

Srinivasan isn't exaggerating. Even as Rahman, who won two Oscars for
the film Slumdog Millionaire, came to Pune last month to perform at a
high-octane concert that marked the beginning of his Jai Ho world
tour, the army of Rahman fans, led by Srinivasan and Aiyar, created a
unique record of attending each of Rahman's concerts ever performed in
India. Some of us have even made it a point to be present at his
 concerts abroad, says Aiyar.

For Srinivasan, who's now at the helm of all activity undertaken by
Rahman's own Barmy Army — a name for English cricket fans who follow
the team — the journey began over 15 years ago. As an impressionable
youth in his late teens, he was completely bowled over by music from
Roja, the 1992 film that made Rahman a household name across India.
The music was so different, so new. It hooked me so badly that I went
mad hunting down every single bit of music that had ever come out of
 Rahman's studio.

Once the Internet arrived in the late 1990s, he logged in only to
receive a pleasant surprise. The net was full of Rahman trivia, much
more than I knew. Clearly, it looked like a nice platform for
exchanging ideas, and I decided to take my hunt online.

Very soon, he had struck an online friendship with Aiyar, a music
promoter and another die-hard Rahman fan. The duo decided to form an
online fan club to create a forum for like-minded individuals to
share thoughts about Rahman, says Aiyar. That was 11 years ago.

By 2000, when I joined, there were some 50 emails being swatted
around daily among members, with crazy details and trivia about
 Rahman's music, says 28-year-old Bangalore-based software engineer
Gomtesh Upadhye. The group, reveals Aiyar, was eventually taken over
by Yahoo!. Recently, the group went on to open a page on Facebook,
where the membership quickly swelled to 3 lakh.

Meanwhile, other bonds were being struck. Sometime in 2003, almost
miraculously, Aiyar boarded a flight to discover Rahman seated beside
him. A personal bond was quickly forged. Rahman was slated to perform
in Bangalore — the city where most of the group's fan base happens to
be. It was a golden opportunity for the group to get involved in a
 more direct way.

We helped out with dealing with sponsors, ticketing and even
backstage work, says Upadhye. There were about 40 of us. We did
everything we could do, for free.

It didn't go unrequited. The group was treated to a personal
interaction with Rahman after the show, an experience most of them
describe as awesome. Says Srinivasan, We learnt that Rahman himself
had been closely following our activity on the Internet. Since

[arr] Radha Mangeshkar mentions ARRahman as her favorite composer !

2009-06-21 Thread Dinesh Vaidya
Today's SAKAL ( Marathi Daily ) newspaper reports a brief interview of Radha
Mangeshkar, Daughter of Pt. Hridayanath Mangeshkar and Niece of Bharatratna
Lata Mangeshkar.

She has mentioned AR Rahman as her favorite music composer.

She was slated to perform Jiya-Jale in the Pune concert of 31'st May but due to
time restrictions, some 4 songs could not be performed and unfortunately
Jiya-Jale was amongst the 4 which got axed.

I hope she gets a chance to perform for ARR soon.

[arr] Re: Single Song Wonders Clarity over ROJA Marathi ?

2009-06-20 Thread Dinesh Vaidya
Regarding a doubt over ROJA Marathi My knowledge in this matter is
poor. Can experts including Gopal / Swapnil / Amith throw sufficiently bright
light on this issue ?

To be honest, I was informed that ROJA (Marathi) was a authentic DUBBED version
by Rahman's studio ( since just a dubbed version, Rahman himself may or may not
have supervised the process ) just like any other dubbed versions mostly
happening between Hindi / Tamil and Telugu.

Inputs welcome !

[arr] Re: I cant beleive!!

2009-06-18 Thread Dinesh
bro, its true. But i guess its time for Rahman to move into a new field. He
rocked down south 100%, and then he moved into north full fledged and he rocked
there too. and its time for him to move from north to international. though its
heart breaking, im sure ARR knows what he is doing. Lets sit back and watch,
and ofcource, support him. Hope Rahman always gives priority to Mani Ratnam and
Shankar no matter in what circumstances, coz no doubt these 2 directors shapped
ARR ultimately!

2009-06-18 Thread Dinesh
its quite obvious the movie needed 13 tracks, as each song for each zodiac,
that means 12 songs is a MUST and 1 extra song probably as an intro song and
what so ever. why is this an issue here?? Im glad Ashu had find a great find
(according to the crew). Its good for him. We need fresh music directors as ARR
is busy overseas. Ashu has great ears for music and i do not doubt the songs
will be good.

So what if What's your rashee? has 13 tracks? The movie might have required
 the amount of songs.

The amount of songs composed by a composer is not a requirement to make one a
successful composer. It's the quality of the songs that's more important. And
ARR has time and again proved that his songs has great quality.

[arr] Re: There was Rahman magic Established Vs New !

2009-06-03 Thread Dinesh Vaidya
Can I just put in 2 cents on this issue of using established / same singers as
the song etc etc

Rahman is known to all of us as a MD who gave new / unknown talent a chance. If
you count how many singers he launched, that number will go over 100 ?

Hence I think it should not be a big issue if Mohit Chauhan's song is sung by
Raja Hassan. If this way Raja Hassan does not get a chance, when will his time
come ?

I met Raja Hassan during the concert practice and he was certainly a nice and
humble guy who will certainly make it big in this field.

And if Rahman will not bring new talent forward through his movie music or
concerts, who will ?

Rahman songs have this amazing quality Try it and you will agree that
Rahman songs, by any singer, are melodious

PUNE: There was a buzz in the air. Thousands of Puneites were eagerly
waiting for the Mozart of Madras' and his magical melodies. And, he did not
  disappoint.

The Balewadi sports complex resounded with the Rahman magic leaving his
fans spellbound and asking for more as The Times of India Jai Ho concert
unfolded in the balmy Sunday evening.

The venue was crowded well before the show started. And then the wait
began, that of the maestro and his posse of musicians.

Moments before Rahman got onto the stage, radio jockeys of Radio Mirchi, RJ
Shrikant and RJ Aditi played host and welcomed the crowd. The crowd
complied when they were asked to scream Jai Ho' at the top of their voices
but their loudest cheer was reserved for Rahman as he came on to the stage
in a lift that came up from the middle of the stage. Clad in a white
sherwani, Rahman started off the show with a track from Slumdog
Millionaire' and followed it up with a Tamil track Machan Machan'.

But it was his talk before the track that left the audience charmed.
Namaskar, salaam and satsriakaal! A dream I had since a long time has
finally come true today, and I'm here in Pune. We are going to have fun
today with some good songs, some bad and some mistakes, he said with a
  laugh.

The next track, one of his latest releases the title song of Delhi-6' had
the crowd up on their feet with all singing along with Rahman's troupe of
singers. The concert began with a prayer for peace which was fitting since
Rahman's music symbolises light, beauty and peace for all those who hear
it. His songs cut across languages and countries, only to bring everyone
together, said an excited Jill Sheldekar, a corporate trainer.

Popular singers Hariharan and Sadhana Sargam's entry on the stage caught
everyone by surprise as they immediately launched into the song Roja
Janeman' from Roja' to the delight of everyone, as the crowd hummed along.

Singer Raja Hassan belted out the popular Masakalli' from Delhi 6' and
Guzarish' from Ghajini' and he was accompanied well by a female singer from
  Rahman's troupe.

But while Masakalli' had the crowd whistling along, it was Rahman's Dil
Se,' the title track from the film by the same name that had the entire
crowd up and jumping on their feet. From his entry in a lift that looked
like it was on fire, to his voice that reached a high few could dream of,
Rahman did it all and elicited the loudest cheers of the evening. I do not
normally sing this song in shows, but I got too many e-mails asking for
  this particular song, he said.

In between songs, Rahman also found time to converse with the audience, as
he left the stage with the intention of interviewing' a few people. I
always get asked Why' and What,' etc, so now, I'm going to do the same, he
said, as everyone started jumping up and down to catch his attention. He
finally spoke to a couple of people and then dedicated his next song Jiya
  Se Jiya' to them.

We are enjoying every bit of the show. His entry was superb and so is the
event. Also, the police is doing a great job, said Amit Besetty, who was
there with his group of friends.

It was not all music, and even the dancers in the troupe put up a splendid
show. What was particularly eye-catching was a dance jugalbandi in martial
arts style by two dancers. The other songs performed during the pulsating
evening included Ringa Ringa' from Slumdog Millionaire' and Genda Phool'
  from Delhi-6'.

Next up was the foursome of Rahman, Hariharan, Roopkumar Rathod and Rashid
  Ali as Rahman played
