 bargainboozeandbites.com Needs A New Name!

And the person who comes up with it will win a $50 gift certificate to
their favorite restaurant or bar on the site!

For a few reasons, the name bargainboozeandbites just doesn't work.
So we're going to change it. The new name should be all of the following:

 Shorter!
Easy to type as a URL

 Descriptive
It should get the idea of the site across. These are ONLY great deals, and
only the people who know about this site get to know about them. It should
 say that!
(You'll also soon have a new phone app! See that announcement below.)

 Easy to repeat
We need ALL OF YOU to start telling restaurant and bar owners how you
heard of their specials!!! The new name should be something that people want
 to
  repeat!

 Keep in mind

Some businesses want to run specials ONLY TO VIEWERS of the site. That's a
great thing! And it will undoubtedly happen a lot more when the new app
comes. The new name will increasingly act as a kind of verbal coupon. We
 need something catchy and unique!

Please make your submissions by reply to this email.

 Deadline is Monday, December 13th!

 simply marvelous everytime

 The New App Is Coming!!!
And it's INCREDIBLE! It will be GPS-based (i. e., know where you are). You
will be able to define your parameters and pull up all of the amazing
specials in that area! Then, you can get yourself navigated there, access
 their
  website, call them and
 post the special to facebook!!!
Look for it in late January or early February!

  Tommy -
Were you at the Planning Board meeting?
If you had been there, you would know that MM was making a point
 that
they can't get involved in building permanent bathrooms and still
make their Memorial Day deadline. That's why their solution is
pop
out bathrooms as part of the pop out kiosks on the green acres
spaces. This has zero connection to libs, Tom, and I think you
 know
  it.

Madison Marquette and Asbury Partners, as part of its limited
liability company, showed their plans to the planning board
  Monday
night for renovating the boardwalk pavilions from 1st to 5th
   Avenues.
The plan is for retail space to be completed by Memorial Day.
   That's
just fine except the plans also call for ripping out the
 sewers
   lines
that are already in the pavilions. The city should refuse to
  grant
any permits for removing bathrooms in the pavilions.
MM's argument is that retailers don't want the hassles
that
accompany the traffic that passes by their shops enroute to
 the
public restrooms. However Planning Board members didn't buy
 it,
saying it was obvious that the design was trying to maximize
 the
retail space.
In conceding to protests about eliminating bathrooms, the
architect and reps from MM, including John Lanham, first
 offered
   to
include bathrooms in the Second Avenue pavilion if Green
Acres
   (CAFRA
the coastal landuse department of the State Dept. of
  Environmental
Protection has already given its approval) refuses their
 request
   to
put public bathrooms as part of pop up retail kiosks on the
 Green
Acres properties between the pavilions. (What an
environmental
   insult
this is - putting toilets on Green Acres?) By the way, the
pop
 up
alternatives won't be there year round, because they wouldn't
 be
heated.
Finally, it appeared that MM had vowed to keep the public
restrooms in the Second Ave pavilion, regardless of the Green
   Acres
reaction to its plan. This is quite a concession considering
 that
   the
public swim club - which has to be built before a public swim
  club
can be erected - is going to be placed in the Second Ave.
pavilion.
The public club plans call for a pool 18 deep,
 with fluffy
pillows scattered about, in addition to about 50 lounges,
and
attendants walking among clubbers, who will pay $5 a day,
   spritzing
them with lavender water and handing out fluffy white
 towels.
   A
scene out of a W Hotel ad, no?
Seriously folks, here's another cheap trade off under the
rationale of rushing to meet a deadline. Sewer lines, as
every
homeowner or property owner knows, are a huge investment. Why
   would
we would we rip them out? And temporary toilets send a huge
   negative
message to visitors wondering if Asbury's rebirth is
   permanent. Yeah
lady, it's as permanent as that toilet seat there.
The council doesn't want to see the bathrooms go. Most of
 the
planning board didn't buy it. But they need to know how
 residents
feel, too, to give them more ammo in fighting this one. So
 please
send an email, pick up the phone - open the window and
 SCREAM!!!

not know if i agree, i believe, no i know we need more on the
streets, but with a staff of approx 100 for a 1 sq. mile town i am
not convinced we need more when i read red bank a city similiar to
ours has 42, this is not a negative reflection on our police i think
they are outstanding and doing a great job, im just not convinced we
need more. thank you
I know you're fairly new to the city and they have
this already in place when I receive the
correspondence I will be sure to forward it to you

Just a start. More can be done.

not a bad start agree with most, lets add take away very costly
health benefits and pensions for part time employees, ie
the professionals attorneys, judges, engineers accountants etc.,
lets make tacking of pensions illegal

I knew I was going to regret this. No, but I did email my other
buddy Terry about that last night and the obvious error in the
posting dates of the meeting pointed out by Frank.

I got an answer a little while ago that because MM organized the
fireworks without council approval, he gave it administrative
approval
with the caveat that the council had to later approve it
officially. I
don't want to read into any more than was said but, I assume it was
done late in the game and the city did not want to be a heavy on
something that is actually good for the city because of a
technicality. I will also read into it that it will not be a habit.

appreciate your honesty, sorry to set you up, but i did not call you
monkey boy, totally agree, no big deal, as long as it does not become
a habit, which im not willing to bet against, if it does, we will see
not yours but everyones true colors, should be interesting is MM
exempt or above the law? time will tell! oh by the way the fireworks
had been advertised for the past 3 weeks in the papers, makes me
wonder, but im just a dumb old taxpayer who plays by the rules and
pays on time, and does not ask for an administrative approval after
the fact, hey maybe i can after the tax increase, not a bad idea, ask

 3. Get state and county elected officials on the case. Keep the
pressure up. Open this travesty to the light of day. The BOE attorneys
 are wasting state taxpayer money.

totaly agree, this is a winable item, it has to get out to the public,
the press, the politicians, i continue to say it, this bd. has to have
the backbone to take on the CZAR, why not on this issue? its for the
childre, its been in the works for over 2 years, and it is cheaper to
coniunue than move everything, duh, one would think a no brainer, but i
think Frank said it in a SANE CITY this would not be happening.

  taxpayers are paying them.

It seesm to me that the BOE needs to take drastic action and vote no
confidence in the law firm and the state monitor with regard to the
Little league. If it was really the issue of the $300 any number of us
would pay it. The BOE needs to take this to the press and the
governor.

You are 100% correct, but it seems Frank is indeed sitting with a bunch
of knuckleheads, his motion to not pay the attorney who should be fired
barely passed, when it should of been 9-0, the laws have not changed in
two years, the attorney doing a reversal is enough to fire him for
being inept, let alone not folowing bd directions, he seems to be
running the show, not the bd., the monitor is new does not know all the
facts and probably has been bull shited by this should be fired
attorney, John Moor is 100 % correct the board must take a stand and
fight this, what can the state do , yell at them, oh well, they
basically took over the district by giving the monitor total veto
power. they are going to have to take him on eventually, why not now
over an issue they can win. cmon the press the coaster all will bury
the state with editorials, this is a 2 year old project benefical to
the children of Asbury, for the state monitor to pull the rug and spend
more money to move the location, he will be blasted, if he rules
against the bd. the power of the press will reach right to the govenor
and there will be a reversal, if not at least you tried, but to throw
in the towel without a fight is lame. This board either fights this or
there is indeed a hidden agenda, its time to draw the line in the sand
and take on the fight , no other options are exceptable, its also time
to fire the attorney, Frank good job, it must be tough, do not resign
the more this issue gets out the more support you and Danny and the
Little League will gain, keep up the heat on the knuckleheads who voted
to hire this buffone, and voted against your motion, and want to move
the field best of luck, maybe your bd members do not agree with you

reason, they have made some sort of crusade in stopping Danny McKee
from moving forward. I know I am a frequent critic of the city
council, but in this case, the city has given Danny the permits he
needs. That should have been the happy end of the story. I hope
tomorrow that parents and supporters of the Little League make their
feelings of disgust and frustration known. To add to the
ridiculousness of the situation, it is my understanding that the
State
monitors, who have veto power over the BOE(!), are now involved in
supporting our lawyers in their position that Danny must jump
through
ever increasing number of flaming hoops in order to accomplish what
should have been a really simple process. I am usually not a
conspiracy theorist, but I'd really like to find out just who or
what
is behind this. Does anyone realize the thousands and thousands of
dollars in billing hours that our lawyers have charged the taxpayers
in their effort to stop the Little League? My yelling and screaming
at
the lawyers has accomplished nothing. I have said to them that I
hope
Danny and the Little League sue the BOE, and if he does, I will be a
witness for the Little League, and if it means I have to resign my
seat on the BOE in order to do that, then so be it. If the monthly
bill for the law firm comes up at tomorrow night's BOE meeting, I
will
ask that it be separated, so that can have the pleasure of voting
 against it and explaining why.

Thank you for the post, please provide us the voters with some
answers, are not the lawyers appointed by the bd? i would think for
them to go off on a crusade they would need the support of 5 bd.

be voted out of office, that would seem more logical then you
resigning. Im also surpirised, it always seemed you had the ability
to reason with your fellow members and receive support, i am sure you

Asbury Park Little League Runs Into More Obstacles by Board

I've been working on this for two years and everyone was aware,
McKee said. The school board voted that we could go ahead.

They're always coming up with more hoops for me to jump through,
 McKee said.

The board, according to McKee, has also asked for information from
the
Little League. Information sought includes bank statements, how much
money is in escrow and who will have a key to the field-house. The
 board also asked about insurance.

I asked about the insurance issues a month ago and received no
 response, he said.

Finally, McKee says, it was determined that the deed governing the
land which the field is on would need to be changed in order for the
project to be completed. He said that the deed prohibits any
structures within 25 feet of the street. Under this rule the fence
installed by the school is also illegal, McKee said.

The school board wants the league, however, to pay the $300
necessary
to change the ordinance, McKee said.

If this is a microcosm of what's going on down there then they have
serious problems, McKee said. The kids, who everyone is supposed
to
be working for, are nowhere on the radar.

Acting School Superintendent James Parham declined to comment on the
 situation.

I can't talk about that right now, he said. There are some legal
issues that need to be addressed.

Robert Frank Garrett or any other board member, who reads this, want
to comment what is going on, there is always 2 sides to every story
please enlighten us, why the 180 swith why is this man jumping thru
hoops and being given last minute changes when he is so close to
accomplishing something wonderful?

In addition, being part of the county system puts another set of
eyes on what is happening in Asbury Park. It's crime and it's
 policing as well.

i personally think the horses are the biggest waste of money and
manpower, oh they will look great on cookman at first saturday and
will be nice in parades, but bottomline 2 more officers off the
streets,i know its too early but i wonder how many citations they
have given out? dog and pony show when we need foot patrols

as far as the 911 i totally disagree with you, first of all to
continue to be in the county system had serious defects, number one
the cost , its not free the number i heard was well over 50 thousand
last year, secondly the time factor i call 911 it goes to the county
then back to ap fire or police, instead of directly to them, 911 is
suppose to be for an emergency if i ever have one i dont want a time
lapse while phone calls are being relayed, i would also think local
dispatchers are more knowledgable about our streets, then someone
sitting behind a switchboard in freehold, which again could be a
worth while time factor, thank you

ok it seems your new target is the mayor, i know you are upset and

imagine you can get in touch with him very easy every city employees

which you are aware of, you could also call city hall and ask for his

committee level, and if so what happened to them, im not going to
attack him like you do, i will give him the benfit of the doubt maybe
he was out of town and never saw the question, but since you are in

Not needed and inappropriate. There is nothing wrong with the
poles,
In fact they are authentic 'historic' 1920s Westinghouse poles.

What is neded are replacement vintage (1920s) lamps on top of the
poles. (see Norwood Ave in Deal for examples)

But of course noone will support doing the economical, appropriate,
 historic solution.

Instead a committee will apply for a grant, receive a zillion
dollars,
install fake vivtorian poles and throw away the real historic ones.

 My prediction.

lets not over react, before you get the correct facts, maybe that is
what they are doing, i said it was my undrstanding and jack should
check into it, sorry if i was wrong and misled you, some of those
poles the ones on thw west side are not original, again my point
was ,if they just replaced the heads would it be the adequate
lighting that jack is looking for?

This Friday the City Council will be holding a special Executive
Session
meeting to discuss the state of the Waterfront Redevelopment. As I
understand it, the goal of this meeting is to develop a collective
vision
and plan of action for the Waterfront in light of the current state
of
progress, market conditions, the City budget, etc.

my comments, give them nothing, hold there feet to the fire, be
consistent to us long time taxpayers, i never remember getting a tax
bill which said , oh if you dont want to pay its ok we will let it go
to a future date, enough is enough already thank you for asking

Facts on the City Budget and the Waterfront Redevelopment

On June 20, 2007 the City Council approved a $ 35.5 million budget
with a
minimal increase in the City tax rate (not including county and
school rate
increases.) This amount is similar to last years; however, since
the 2004
budget the City Council majority has increased spending by just
over $8
 million.

If the state had not come to the aid of certain City Council
members' pleas
for help, our minimal tax bill increase would have been $2,685 per
household, on an average assessed home of $150,000.

The City Manager has stated that, It's going to be a few years
before we
can balance a budget with our own revenues.

Larry Fishman of Asbury Partners has stated that, I think the
city's going
to have to plug that gap ($7.5m) for another year.

Asbury Park's deficit was supposed to be eliminated back in 2002
when the
city sold all of our waterfront properties and pavilions. Citizens
were then
told in 2005 that the surplus of $11million from the sale of the
Sewer bond
would go to plugging the budget for the next three years. As
proof to
support this bond and to gain approval, the City presented a report
to the
Local Finance Board stating that Asbury Park will have annual
recurring
revenue beginning in 2006 to 2008 equaling $4.2 m in phase 1; (and)
phase 2
will be on line in 2008-2009 with an additional $4.2m.

The following is a list of deficiencies on the part of Asbury
Partners under
the terms of the recent Dispute Resolution Agreement:

 A. Convention Hall (Schedule B)

 (i) Window Replacement Program. The window replacement program was
to be
completed in May 2007. Asbury Partners subsequently indicated that
this
program would be completed by September of 2007. On May 31, 2007,
Asbury
Partners indicated that the condition of the window openings
necessitated
repair of those openings and that fabrication of the replacement
windows
would be deferred until the details of the necessary repairs were
completed.
The Recent Submission indicates that reconstruction of the window
openings
has begun but there is no definitive completion date.

(ii) Interior Store Replacements. Interior Store Replacements were
to be
completed in September of 2006. An updated projection by Asbury
Partners'
representatives was July 2007. To date, this work has not
commenced. On
April 19, 2007, Asbury Partners indicated that a bid award was
expected on
April 20, 2007. The Recent Submission indicates that construction
will
commence in September and be competed in December of 2007. However,
the City
is still awaiting indication that the SHPO has approved the interior
 storefront design.

(iii) Arcade Entrance Structure Repair. This work was to be
completed by May
2007. Revised projections from Asbury Partners' representatives
were that
the work would commence in early April and would be completed in
August
2007. On May 31, 2007, Asbury Partners indicated that revisions were
necessary to existing plans and that a permit modification would be
applied
for. The Recent Submission indicates that construction will start in
mid-September, and be completed in December 2007.

(iv) Exterior Store Fronts and Entry Doors. This work would be
completed in
April of 2007. To date, this work has not been commenced. On May 4,
2007,
Asbury Partners indicated that an extension for submitting bids was
granted
with the new deadline being May 18, 2007. The Recent Submission
lacks any
definitive timeframe for the completion of the work.

 (v) Entire Building Renovation Design. Construction documents were
to be
complete in September 2007 with renovation work to begin in October
2007. To
date, Asbury Partners has not undertaken the schematic design which
was
scheduled to be complete in January 2007. The Recent Submission
does not
indicate any definitive timeline for this work.

 B. Casino (Schedule C)

 1. Arcade

 (i) Entire Building Renovation Design. Schedule C indicates that
construction documents are to be complete in September 2007 and that
renovation is to commence in October 2007. Schematic Design
scheduled to
occur in January 2007 has not commenced. The Recent Submission

certainly join a group to try to keep you out, nothing personal, just
tired of being a dumping ground, thank you

Kevin just finished the bible study. He is here now and tells

I am trying to collect data and it would be helpful to me, if
 only
Asbury Park home owners make their feelings known.

I am not for or against the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission, nor am
I
  for
or against the Lighthouse Mission relocating to Asbury Park. I
  have
a short time to gather data for a report I am preparing.

   Thanks for your help.

   1. Just some observations I've made recently. Reuters reports
 that
Wikipedia is now the top online news and information
destination,
according to Nielsen//NetRatings . Online encyclopedia
Wikipedia
 has
added about 20 million unique monthly visitors in the past
year.
 In May,
Wikipedia had 46.8 million unique visitors, up 72 percent from
 June
2006, NetRatings said. Wikipedia also has finished on top of
the
 news
and information category every month this year -- ranking ahead
 of
Landmark Communications' Weather Channel site by an increasing
 margin --
topping out with a disparity of about 10 million visitors in
May.

   2. As I understand it, the rank of results at Google is based
on
 what
sites users are visiting. Right now, a search for Asbury Park
will show Wikipedia ranked as number 3 or 4 out of approximately
   2,000,000 hits.

   Negativity

Is it just me or do the photos in this suggest a lot of
 negativity?
Crumbling, dilapidated, vacant these are all used in the
 captions
of the photos and suggest the demise of the town. However, the
 article
doesn't talk about a decline and, instead, focuses on
 redevelopment.
What are the views on this? The photos seem to suggest one
point
 of view
(that Asbury Park's a piece of crap [pardon the French]) and
the
 article
suggests another (Asbury Park: Getting' better every day).
 Thoughts? 12

Correct. You earned a beer. See tommy to collect.

Old man Brown and co had it locked up.

HE'd count umbrellas. large and small. Chairs as well.

Even if you didn't work for him, you could sometimes fill in and

I agree with Werner. This plan was absolutely 100% against the
   idea
of tourism. It's amazing that a town with a beach, a
boardwalk,
   and
history would abandon such features that other towns could
only
   dream
about.

The Plan was not created with attracting visitors in

 Tourism, events,
etc were notconsidered or accounted for. The Beach and
   commercial

I agree, i think a lot of the boardwalk stores, food, and
other attractions are aimed at being worthy enough for these
million dollar condos. There for sure will be high class
   places,
aimed to please these high end condo buyers. Although, i
 think
many aspects of the boardwalk will catter to a typical
   boardwalk.
You can have a mix of both, and claim the happiness of
   different
 groups all at once.
With todays events, you have to wonder. If the roadwork
   were
the way it was before, would the event still have parking
problems? I say yes. I remember a few years back when i was
   in
highschool and i'd go to the Warped Tour (a concert of
 sorts),
   the
streets were always packed with no parking. Now this is
going
   back
6 years before any roadwork had begun. Parking appears to
 have
always been an issue. Now it's worse, becasue parking spaces
   were
lost. You couldnt have gained any, but you didn't have to
   loose
 any either.
Places like The Wonder Bar and the Stone pony attrack a lot
   of
cars on certain nights. These buildings are sitting in the
 mist
   of
a changing enviorment. They don't seem to fit in 100
percent.
   In
a few years, will they still be there? If they arn't then
   things
may go along smoothly (not sure how smooth). But becasue
they
   are
still there, there almost in the way, or a blockage of sorts
causing insanity. It's not that the deisgn is bad, it's just
different then what these buildings came out of.
The design isn't designed in the same ways that the
   previous
one was. The Convention hall and Casino are huge buildings.
However, they may not need as much parking as everyone
thinks
   they
will need. Why? Becasue from the way things were planed, its
possiable these buildings were not to be used as much as
they
   had
been. Not to the max, not to capacity. But maybe below
   capacity!
They can't take them down. They know there would be hell to
 pay
   if
they tried to, or did. These are just thoughts.. Clearly i
   don't
know any information, or claim to know what's going on!
Whats
 everyone else think?
I like the lights, the sidewalks. The plaza in front of
Convention hall is nice. I didn'tget my curved sidewalk
 around
HoJo back, but i like the new courtyard a lot. I also
 consider
   it
to be sitll be open space like what was there previously.
I
think that area can now hold a lot of people. standing,
   walking
thru. Compared to before, everyone had to squeeze thrue that
   10
foot wide walkway around Hojo?! Now you can have groups of
   people
coming off the sidewalk and heading straight for the
 boardwalk.
On one side they cut back the openness. Yet on the other,
   they
 opened things up in aspects.

Pinpoint customers who are looking for what you sell.
