Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] LAN QOS

2013-05-22 Thread Amp

Hey,
That command is assigning COS value 5 to Queue 1 Threshold 3.
Depending on what DSCP value is mapped to COS 5 in the mld qos map
cos-dscp mapping will determine what traffic is placed in that queue
and threshold. I have seen COS 5 mapped to DSCP 40 by default using
Auto QOS, which means that if we wanted EF or DSCP 46 mapped to COS
value 5 we would need to change the cos-dscp mapping to match that. I
hope I didn't confuse you even more. The QoS section of the 3750
Configuration Guide is a great help.

I can understand what this command means :

mls qos srr-queue output cos-map queue 1 threshold 3 5

How to use it ???

Hello Amp,

I got it working with the native client.

You have to setup a new native OS X Cisco IPSec VPN

Go to System Preferences, Network, click the + to create a new VPN, select
VPN, Cisco IPSec and name it

Now set the Server IP, this worked for me 74.126.20.247

add your user name and password

setup authentication using the information from the vpn file provided
by IPExpert
or contact IPExpert tech support for the group name and shared secret

Then hit OK and apply, then connect if you have active session.

You can also use VMware fusion to set up a windows based virtual machine
and use the cisco client if you prefer.

Jason,
That is awesome news!!! Congratulations on getting it done

All,

I'm pleased to let everyone know that I got my numbers! I am CCIE # 38487.

It's been a very long road. For me, my pursuit of the CCIE lasted a little
over 2 years. I used IPExpert as my end to end solution for the CCIE. I
went through the initial Volume 1 and 2 study material and then attended
the 2 week bootcamp with Vik. I can truly say that the bootcamp was the
piece of the puzzle that put everything together for me. I highly
recommend it to everyone.

While I didn't pass in 3 attempts, which was my goal, I'm happy to have
finished. My advice to everyone is to make sure you know ALL the
technology and can set it up efficiently and effectively. Furthermore, I
think the key is perserverance. Everything probably won't go according to
plan or your schedule. Don't let that phase you and when you get close
book every 30 days until you clear it.

For me I eventually switched to a hybrid device based approach. My
strategy was to apply a base configuration to all devices in order that was
repeatable based on what I was being asked. Once complete I would then
start working through the lab in order, but at a much quicker pace as most
of my configuration was in place.

I want to thank everyone on this mailer for their continued support and
knowledge sharing. I wish everyone luck!

Thanks,

Jason Lee

Hey,
I would hard code the preferences. Being that the default preference
in canonical terms is 0, you could set the preference on the pub dial

What are your thoughts on pre-configuring ephone-dns when you are
permitted to use CME-SRST with autoprovision dn or all? Instead of dorking
around with templates (which I hear is flaky) I was thinking about
tweaking my approach to pre-configure ephone-dns when I build out SRST. I
have done some basic tests and read the docs. It is supported and appears
 to work.

 The benefits:

I don't have to wait for phones to failover to finish SRST related
configs. I can configure BACD, call coverage for VM, mwi sip, name,
 description, etc.

 Thoughts?

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Learn and Motivation Strategy for the second attempt

2012-11-14 Thread Amp
Oh yeah I forgot to answer one of the questions. Yes I have changed my
strategy since my previous (2) attempts.

Here is what I am practicing:
After infrastructure is configured and working, go ahead and get QoS
out of the way. No need to have that ugly monster bite me in my ass
later in the day. From there focus on knocking out as much as I can in
my IOS devices, with the exception of a completed dial-plan. You've
taken the lab twice now, I am sure there are some things that you know
that you can expect. Configure some of those things in notepad before
you ever touch a device or open the lab book. No need to waste time on
those things, get over with quickly. Once I move to servers, I know
the top-down, left to right approach is famous however I have been
doing some things such as building place holders for things that I am
not ready to configure yet, before doing the top-down, left to right
thing. I know that my device pools will hold certain information so I
build those placeholders first so that I won't have to go back and
dilly-dally with that stuff.

One of the things that has been helping me is I am learning how to
slow things down mentally. Deep breaths have been working wonders for
me.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Learn and Motivation Strategy for the second attempt

2012-11-14 Thread Amp

Hey Steffen,
Sorry to hear about your unsuccessful attempt. First things first, you
didn't fail bro, you just didn't pass this time and believe me
exchanging the word unsuccessful for failed makes a huge difference in
a persons psyche. Anyway, like you I have had (2) attempts that
resulted in my not getting my number. One of the questions that you
have to ask yourself and be very honest about is, was it due to lack
of knowledge or other factors such as speed, or strategy. If it is
because of lack of knowledge in a certain area, then I think you know
exactly what you need to do between now and January, get rid of that
lack of knowledge. Now with regard to the other (2) items I mentioned,
that can be a little trickier. For starters, what were the strategies
that you used for your previous (2) attempts? I can tell you not
having a solid strategy KILLED my chances of passing my last attempt
in August. I have a friend, shout out to Scott Dozier, who passed his
voice lab yesterday in RTP and he swore by the device based approach.
If you don't know what that approach is, Google it. But you have
others, like Vik here at IPexpert, that tend to favor a hybrid-based
approach. Both approaches have made people successful, so it comes
down to what is most comfortable for you. I am a firm believer that if
your method is not working and has not worked then you may want to
explore another method. This exam is about what you know, but more
importantly what you can configure, how it's being asked to do it. So
for me I have to remove logic and years of design experience from the
equation and revert back to my military days and just DO WHAT I AM
TOLD. Nothing more, nothing less. Like you, I am heading into my 3rd
attempt, mine is Feb. 27. I have wanted to throw in the towel and say
F-U CISCO but knowing that almost daily someone is passing, is giving
me hope and I hope that it gives you hope.

1. Forget the word failed. You are not a failure and you did not fail.
You just didn't pass.
2. Remember why you are doing this in the first place. Keep your "Why"
in the forefront of your mind.

3. Take the rest of the week off and relax.
4. Someone passes this exam every month, January will be your month.
5. Find a test taking, lab building strategy that is workable in 6
hours and stick to it. Practice it every day that you practice, no
matter how mundane it may seem.
6. Set a time goal with every section and practice until you meet
and/or exceed those times. How long does it take you to get
infrastructure configured correctly and working? Beat that time, or
try to, every time you lab.
7. Let us see what you're doing. When you finish a lab, shoot the
configs to the forum and let us see if we can find mistakes or
weaknesses.
8. If you have not purchased them yet, purchase the 5-Lab Challenge
from IPexpert. The training advisors will work out a deal with and for
you. These are crucial.
9. Remember, who you are! You are Steffen Bruening. NO, I don't know
you but YOU know YOU. Your family and friends know you and I am sure
they know, as well as you know, that YOU CAN DO THIS.

10. Dust yourself off and get back to it!

Steffen,
You're correct there is no "spanning-tree portfast trunk" for the ESW
but what you can do with regards to the ESW is enter the command "no
spanning-tree vlan 301" or whatever your voice-vlan number is and
still meet the requirement.

Amp
Quoting Cory Gray :

I have not seen bypass all of the spanning tree states in IPexpert's labs
and I cannot comment on what I have seen in the real lab. If portfast is a
requirement I guess you have to do what you have to do but I will say this
again.. I believe I lost all points on my CUCME section because my phones
were down when my lab was graded. Using switchport mode access and switch
access vlan X on the ESW has been known to randomly stop working. Use those
commands at your own risk as I mistakenly did.

I still need the sw access mode, because there is no "spanning-tree portfast
trunk" command for the ESW and so I would lose the marks for the vlan
section because in most cases it is required to bypass all the spanning-tree
states or just that the phones should boot up as fast as possible.

Cisco. Therefore it should be better to follow the cisco guidelines:

You should be fine without one just know that the recommended ESW config is

Switchport mode trunk

Switch trunk native vlan X (X equals data vlan)

Switch voice vlan Y (y equals voice vlan)

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] ESW and switch config

hi Guys,

I am just wondering if one can practice the labs without a ESW module .

I have a setup in with I am using a switch (3750) for the vlan config.

Is an ESW module necessary for the lab practice?

How is the above config on 3750 different from using an ESW module?

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Problem with Proctor Labs Voice vRack Control Web UI

2012-10-26 Thread Amp

Hey Brandon,
The only time I have seen weird issues when using ProctorLabs vRacks
is if I don't do a 'Revert Entire Pod' BEFORE loading the lab config
that I want to work with.

Amp

Quoting Brandon :

I've completed a few labs and did a search on this topic but didn't
find much.

I'm having a problem where my CUCM servers don't come up with config
that should already be in-place at the start of a lab.  I choose the
appropriate lab from the config load button.

Are students expected to build from a blank slate CUCM each time we
progress through the series of labs?

I've tried loading both Lab 4A initial and Lab 4A final to
troubleshoot, but the result is the same.  For example, the CUCM
System > Region is missing the regions created in labs 1-3.

Also, the  Advertise G.722 Codec Enterprise Parameter is set to
enabled which is set to disabled in lab 2A.

"You will not waste time on our racks... when you begin your
session, YOU will be able to choose the lab scenario you are working
on, and pre-load the configs for that lab scenario -
THIS INCLUDES loading base configs for each of the servers!!"

When I read that it appears to me I shouldn't have to do anything to
the server and should be able to start at the beginning of a new lab
and have all of the cumulative changes from previous labs ready to go.

Any ideas?

"Real World" questions have been known to be answered via this online

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Lab Attempt....(and the winner is)... :-)

2012-08-28 Thread Amp

Hey Gang,
I sat my 2nd attempt at the voice lab yesterday here in RTP. It was a
fair and fun test and according to the proctor one of the newer tests.
I can solemnly affirm that the IPexpert BLS material does an awesome
job of preparing you for what is to come; and with that said I am a

2012-08-28 Thread Amp

Jason,
Congrats; well done and well deserved!

Amp,

Quoting Jason Murray :

Hello everyone just wanted to send a note out that I have passed my
CCIE last week #36408!! First and foremost I want to thank God for
the ability to retain as much information as I had to take in.
Definitely a lot of prayers were answered last week. Next I have to
thank my family for sure for putting up with me for the last year
(esp these last 4 months of not having my full attention almost
daily). They have sacrificed with me. It will be nice not getting up
pretty much every morning including Saturdays and turning on my home
lab. Will enjoy some peace and quiet of not having the hum of
servers and routers running in my office. I wanted to say thanks to
Vik and the ipexpert crew. I used their BLS product for about a year
now. I had my own equipment so it was easy for me to turn it on
almost everyday and run through the walkthroughs and everything
until I had it down. Then a month out I went to the One Week Lab
Experience which I think put it all together and finalized my
studies. I would like to have said I passed my first time, as I did
come very close I didn't but the next 30 days I worked with Vik to
help understand where I was needing improvements and the next time I
went in I passed. Vik went above and beyond in helping me understand
it. He truly loves what he does and enjoys helping people. If he
didn't he would have put up with all my emails. I know he's
especially glad I passed so he doesn't have to be bothered by me
anymore lol :). Also I did use another product some (Cisco 360)
which helped to see the grading process using their graded
assessments. But as far as actual study material I used ipexpert
exclusively.

So to help those out on this same journey as I was I thought I
would put my strategy out there so it may help someone else.

My strategy was using the device based approach (search google and
you will find a nice video on this) where I made a table and read
through the entire guide and put each question under the device it
corresponded to. Once that was complete I started with SiteC and did
that router config along with CUE. Then moved to SB, complete, then
check CUE and finish. Then to SA RTR finish that, check CUE if
needed. Then finish the 3750 config. On the routers if I happened to
be doing QOS or RSVP or something I would configure on the router I
was on and then I would hop over to the router it was going to and
finish that particular config on it. Then come back and finish up on
the router I was on. Oh and the first time I hit the NTP config I
would hop over to CUCM and configure it and then ssh into it and run
a utils dbreplication repair all since NTP does have a tendency to
mess up replication on CUCM. One thing on the routers as well is I
skipped over SRST to hit that up later.

Once all the routers and switch was complete I started with CUCM.
Created RGs, CSSs, AAR (if needed), MRGLs then moved to the System
menu and walked down that menu, Server IPs, Server group, Date/Time,
Region, Location, DHCP, SRST, Enterprise Parameters, Service
Parameters, then created the Device pools. Once that was complete I
auto registered my phones. Then once they were configured I would
start going through all the questions with CUCM and knock those out.
In practice and the exam I skip over anything that has to with call
routing and making calls till after lunch. Before then I would just
keep continuing on and if I was done with CUCM and still hadn't
taken lunch I would move on to CUC, then Presence, then CCX once I
went to lunch I'd come back and finish up whatever I was doing and
then hit call routing. Vik has an excellent strategy which I learned
in the OWLE that I used in practice and on the lab. Once call
routing was done I'd go back and hit whatever I didn't do. Once all
the applications where complete then I went back and configured
everything I needed on the routers that had SRST. Did my testing and
everything there while in SRST once I came back out from SRST I
never came back to it because it was already configured and tested.

As you notice through that in the device base approach I did no
testing until I got to SRST. So you need to be really good at your
technologies and know what you are doing just not memorizing stuff.
That's where the Vol1 and Vol2 practice came in from the BLS. I had
this down and in the last three months before my exam I practiced
this strategy with each of those labs as well as the labs from OWLE
once I went there. Anyway once all the config was complete I then
went back with the first question and completely tested everything
(except srst since it was already tested) Fix what you need and move
on. For me with this strategy I had like three hours to test so I
went through the question with a f

Yes, Cisco employees get the lab paid for up to 3 attempts (that

looking at "actual exams" or any other lab dump is a viable option.
Cisco's stance on the NDA is cut and dry. Cisco employees have been
fired for proof of breaking the NDA so their stance is straight
forward and cut and dry. As a study community I truly believe that it
is up to us to help maintain the standard; when we see stuff that is
questionable or potentially NDA breaking we should step in and say
something; to the person and/or the OSL community at the very least.
Anyway, Cisco employees (at the end of the day) are people too.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Cisco NDA Agreement

2012-06-23 Thread Amp

Hey Guys/Gals,
I know that we all are either preparing for our CCIE exam or have
taken it and possibly passed. The purpose of the Online Study List
Forum is NOT to discuss exam specifics and definitely not to share or
ask for vendor materials (they have to make money so that we can have
something to practice with) and absolutely not to share or ask for
exams from companies that are known to have lab dumps. The Cisco NDA

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Fwd: How to prepare and pass the LAB?

2011-07-12 Thread Amp

CCIEV Wannabe,
I took my 1st lab attempt last week, I didn't fail the lab but did not
pass either. Now with that being said, the lab is extremely passable
but you MUST have a solid plan and strategy going into your attempt,
but most of all you MUST follow your game-plan and strategy. So how do
you develop a passing strategy? You MUST develop a solid study
strategy. Because time is a factor in the lab, a lot of people will
follow the device-based approach. Many rock-stars who have come from
this very list, Matthew Berry, James Key, and Vik Malhi (just to name
a few), have followed the device-based approach. It's a very good idea
to KNOW the technologies inside out, but it is also valuable to know
WHERE to find the information should you need it. The documentation is
fairly simple to navigate and you are able to copy directly from it.
Use that knowledge during your practice. During your studies you
should have figured out how long it takes you to configure certain
things such as MGCP, H323, IOS Xcoders and IOS conferencing, QoS, etc.
Figure out your average time for configuring those technologies and
don't waste time on those subjects. If you can do IOS xcoders/conf in
2-3 minutes, don't spend 4-5 minutes on lab day doing it. Most of all,
no one can give you the key ingredient or it factor that will help you
pass, take the advice that you can work with, get rid of the advice
that you can't, keep practicing, and NEVER EVER give up.

Amp

Quoting cciev wannabe :

Ok, while I am awaiting help from you, here is my own thoughts on LAB.
I will try no to violate NDA, I want to share some of my experiences.

1. device-by-device or question-by-question approach
It depends. For example, device approach is better if cue integrate with
cme.
but I think technology (question) approach is beeter if cue integrate with
cucm.

2. touch cue sooner than later
Vic Mahil already said repeatedly in his blog/lectures. cue took a lot of
times and may need a few reboots.
So, you can do something else while rebooting cue

3. don't wait to do uccx as last
you need a very good knowledge on scripting and rdp to uccx is very slow
it was so slow for all my attempts. I did politely told proctor but I was
told nicely that we all have the same setup/lab
well anyway what a very slow box indeed

Assunto: Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] What do I 'really need' - home lab

Josh,

I was in the same boat when I began my studies. Ultimately, my lab existed
in about 3 phases:
Phase 1:
3x 1720s
1x 2600xm
1x 2600
1x 3640
1x 3500xl
4x 7940

This allowed me to do the basic UCM configuration, but DSP configuration was
based on the older config style, and CME/CUE support was limited to older
versions. I quickly found myself frustrated with the limitations,
particularly when trying to work through the IPExpert labs.

Phase 2:
I was able to borrow a couple of 2800s (one with CUE and switch HWIC), and
re-arrange the lab setup. This allowed me to replicate more of the lab
materials, although I still had to be cognizant of HW/SW limitations while
testing and troubleshooting. I used this setup for the majority of my
studies.
One of the main limitations of this setup was the flexibility in practicing
different lab scenarios. Any revision of the PSTN router configuration would
end up being a mini-lab by itself, which, while valuable, took away from
time dedicated to other topics.

Phase 3:
I went completely online with proctor labs. I went virtual for about the
last 2 weeks of my test prep. The biggest advantage for me was not wasting
time updating configurations and focusing on the tasks.

I think that it's most important to have similar hardware in this order:
PSTN
BR2
HQ
BR1

Having said that, my PSTN/WAN config was actually spread across 2x 1720s and
the 3640, however, so if you're willing to pick and choose the labs you work
on, you can drop the PSTN router to the tail end of that list.

Hope that helps!
mike

the grief as far as support goes? I know I can't skimp on everything - but
certainly there have to be some compromises that could be made. If there
aren't - tell me why - that answer is just as valuable in the learning
process.

I'm just starting to browse the lab guides, so forgive me if this is covered
elsewhere (and if so, kindly reference the location).

Thanks guys!

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Speed for taking the Lab

2010-09-30 Thread Amp

Hey Pithog,
You ask a tough question my friend. I think some of the things that
you need to consider are how well do you know the core technologies
and how fast can you correctly configure them? Based upon the forums
and the practice labs there are going to be some things that you will
need to know how to configure rather swiftly. Will you have CME with
SCCP and SIP phones to configure on your lab? Who knows but it would
be a good idea to know how to configure CME in a matter of minutes.
Can you configure IOS media resources as fast as you can type your
name? If not then ask yourself why not. Start configuring H323, MGCP,
and Gatekeepers in notepad. If you can do it in notepad with little to
no screw-ups then you can do it in the router lightning fast. Are you
able to read the question and not over-complicate what's being asked?
How fast can you configure COR? Furthermore what's your strategy? Do
you plan on configuring once and copying, modifying, and pasting? What
do you know really well and what do you need help in? Spend as much
time trying to master the areas that you are weak in. Also remember,
it is very possible that the IPX labs are more difficult than the
actual lab so if you can't get through the IPX labs in less than 8
hours, can you do the core of what's being asked in a timely manner?
So in my opinion, configure as much as you can in notepad to ensure
you know the configuration steps inside and out. During your steps
write out the steps to configure what's being asked. Do this without
looking it up and see where you are coming up short. I know I didn't
directly answer your question but I hope that helps.

Matthew,
I am not an expert with QSIG but from what I do know I don't see it as
being a probability that it will be on the lab although, it is a
possibility. I checked the blueprint and didn't see it on there
either. If there are or were some PBX's in the picture then I would
guess that QSIG would be probable. Later dude...

Wayne,
I personally don't have a problem with what you say or how you say it,
like you I am a Marine at heart and have heard worse and have said
worse about a whole lot of nothing. Sometimes things may sound harsh
but at the end of the day I think we all can benefit from looking at
everyone's point of view. I remember the awesome giveaway that you
personally ran last year for Christmas so if anyone wonders about your
commitment to helping people they need to go to December 2008 Blog and
look at Santa's Christmas Giveaway. Well I'm off to read some SRND
stuff before the lil ones come up with a different plan for me.

2009-12-26 Thread Amp
Hey Wayne,
When I had the issue that I had many moons ago I originally went to
the PL forum but as you said, that forum is often overlooked and I
didn't get any response there, that's when I came here to the OSL. I
only brought up that particular incident to suggest that it's possible
that the original poster may have been told the same thing, but in any
case you are absolutely correct, by the time we reach CCIE studies we
should be at a point of knowledge that exceeds the basic problems that
keep popping up. I have been guilty of over-thinking what the problem
IS or COULD be and hitting your support guys or even the OSL up only
to have to admit that I was a complete idiot and the problem was
between the chair and keyboard. I for one appreciate the quality of
this list, which is why I prefer to not go anywhere near the other
lists (just my opinion), so I agree with you not wanting the quality
or integrity of this list to take a downward spiral. Anyway, whatever
you are paying Drew and Ryan probably isn't enough for all the
problems that these two have to sort through.

CCIETALK,
Great points and I am sure that IPExpert appreciates your patience
however what about the group of people that are unable to access their
workbooks and have lab dates coming up soon and would really like to
access their workbooks to continue with their prep? The original word

Sunday now it's possibly today Tuesday. I understand your point,
however try to understand those that are seriously impacted by this
migration. Just my two pennies.

2009-11-05 Thread Amp
I ran into that problem when I was working on Lab1A in the vol. 1 WB
and what I did was reset the phone from the CUCME router. Another
thing you can do is shut down port Fa0/3/0, clear IP dhcp binding, and
remove/re-add the config.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Handling burnout

2009-09-21 Thread Amp
Nara,
I can understand completely the burnout issue. I have been studying
(starting over and over and over again more times than I can count)
since January and between work issues, family issues, personal issues,
and sometimes spiritual issues burnout has been a constant in my
situation. What I have done that has seemed to help me is, talk to
someone who has gone through it (James Key) has been very instrumental
in helping me, taking time away from it all when necessary, and most
of all being a fighter. Believe, Rest, and Fight and just know that no
matter what you are doing this for you and what's most important to or
for you. Stay strong and if you wanna holla one on one email me.

Hey JB,
I am talking about the BR2 phone that is located at Proctor Labs and
yes I am able to ping the 10.10.110.3 address, which is the BR2
Loopback0 interface, from my home pc.

Quoting ccie voice :

Hi,
I have not read all posts, but if you are talking about the BR2 phone that's
your homephone, then do the following:

Just to let you know that since 1 or two weeks I have to add a static route
on the HQ router towards my HOME network and redistribute that network in
OSPF.

Try to ping to 10.10.110.3 from you HOME PC, does that work?

Sorry. I wasn't clear. I'm not looking for "load 7960-7940
P00308000500.loads". I'm looking for "load 7960-7940 P00308000500". But
also a command that says: "tftp-server flash:P00308000500.loads".

Before you had under telephony-service: "load 7960-7940 P003-08-9-00". But
no global command "tftp-server flash:P003-08-9-00.loads"
See what I'm getting at?

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Need Help, SCCP Ephone Will Not Register

2009-06-18 Thread Amp
This is Branch2, it has the ESW and is not connected to the 3750. The
3750 is connected to HQ-RTR. The VLANS are correct, take a look at the
Volume 1 - Lab Tables document.

Quoting Cliff McGlamry :

DUDE

The VLAN numbers on your switch don't match what's on the router It
will never come up that way!!!

Hey Bill,
I have tried that as well with no joy.

I could be wrong, but assuming the files are in the Phone subdirectory in
flash, I think your load statement under telephony-service should say:

2. Yes 10.10.110.3 is the Loopback0 and yes it is up/up and the IP
address is correct.

3. I am unable to access the phone via the web.
4. Yes, yes, and yes to those 3 questions.

This is really friggin weird. Thanks for your input, if you can think
of anything else please let me know.

Quoting Cliff McGlamry :

Oh...

Regarding item #1,

I'd recommend you change the telephony service source address to the voice
vlan address, and change option 150 to match. If you can get that to come
up, then you can try shifting it back. Sometimes things just won't come up
on the loopback for some reason.

I've seen this before.

Couple of suggestions:

1. In your telephony service config, change the ip source address to the
voice vlan address on the router. Right now, you have it pointed at
10.10.110.3 See if it will come up on the ethernet address on the phone
VLAN.

2. I'm assuming that 10.10.110.3 is your loopback address on CME. Did you
confirm that the loopback address is configured as that? Does a show ip int
brief show the interface as up?

3. What happens if you web into the phone? What does it show? Is it trying
to connect to the 10.10.110.3, or is it on something else? If the phone has
gone into a secure mode, a reset to factory defaults may be required on the
phone.

4. Did you confirm that the voice vlan the phone is assigned to is
configured on the switch? Does the VLAN match what's configured on the
router? Are they both set to be encapsulated or native (doesn't matter
which as long as it's the same).

Every single one of the above issues has bitten me in the past. See if
these don't get you going.

Cliff

Hey Larry,
No the mac address was assigned dynamically.

Hey gang,
I am in the middle of a proctor labs session and have run into a bit

appears that everything is working just fine with that. My crypto
session is up-active, I am able to ping the Pub and Sub from my 2611

verified some more that my HQ-RTR and HQ-3750 switch are configured
correctly; from all of the routers in the Proctor Labs network I am
able to ping the Pub and Sub also. However, when I click on the CUCM
Pub to connect to server on the Proctor Labs -vRack Control page I am
unable to connect to the server. Any suggestions, pointers, life line,
or something that can help me save this session?

Thanks,

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] 1st time using Proctor Labs and EasyVPN

2009-06-06 Thread Amp

Hey gang,
I am in need of a little help and I'm hoping that one of you
ProctorLabs vRacks veterans can help me out. I am using a 2611XM and I
believe I have it physically connected correct:
2611XM F0/0 ==> (via Crossover Cable) to port on my broadband router
which is connected to my Cable Modem.

When looking at the configs to load on the 2611XM I didn't see one
specific for it, so I clicked on the one for the 2811; I'm assuming
that was the correct thing to do, and I loaded the config onto my
2611XM and ran the two commands at the end of the config file.

Now my next question concerns using my hardware 7960 IP phones. Is
this the correct physical layout:

3550 ==> to the F0/1 of the 2611XM (via straight-thru) and 7960 ==>
3550 (via straight-thru).

Do I have this setup correctly?

Thanks,
Amp

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Services

2009-06-05 Thread Amp

Hey gang,
I was watching the UCM Basics exercises video and became very
interested in knowing is there anywhere that I can go that will
describe what each service does or is for? I have checked the Cisco
CallManager Fundamentals book and the 7.x SRND. I'm just wondering is
there anywhere, other than pressing help on the Sub or Pub, that will
explain each service?

Thanks,

Hey gang I was wondering, is it possible to use a 1760-v router as a

trying to figure out what limitations (if any) I'll have with these

Hey Larry,
Thanks for that input, it is a major help. I have a question for you,
I remember reading somewhere on the IPexpert blog that the company was

Quoting Larry Hadrava :

Amp:
Here is a post that I made on my blog about this very subject.
I had a long lapse since passing the R&S lab ( 2003 ) and late last year
starting to study for the Voice IE. I hope that the comments help.

I have now completed going through the BLS video presentations. So now what?
I have been giving a lot of thought on how to best approach the next steps.
I thought about how I *should have *approached the R&S track and am going to
put that thought process to work in passing the Voice lab by December of
2009.
So, what am I going to do? How am I going to proceed?
Here is the study plan that I am working on (of course I will probably tweak
this as I go along and will share the progress or lack of on the blog).
• Complete the BLS Video on Demand presentations
• Go through the technology focused labs – don’t just do the labs, but
explore other possibilities on the technology being focused on. *DO NOT
WORRY ABOUT TIME ON THIS – LEARN THE TECHNOLOGIES!!!*
• While doing the technology focused labs, download and *READ* the SRND for
that technology
• Go through the technology focused labs again, this time working on the
exact items being asked for in the scenario. *Work for 100% accuracy and
complete the lab within the suggested time limit*
• Move on to the full mock labs – go through each lab focusing on *
UNDERSTANDING* the tasks and learning how they are interrelating with the
full lab. *DO NOT WORRY ABOUT TIME *– Focus On Completing Every Step Of The
Lab
• After completing ALL of the full mock labs for understanding go through
ALL of them again. This time *WORK ON COMPLETING THE TASKS IN THE ALLOTED
TIMEFRAME AND 100% ACCURACY*.
• Once the mock labs have been completed 2 times, I should have a good idea
of my weak areas. Take time to focus on those areas. Read the SRND’s for
these areas. Review any technology focused labs for these areas. Go through
the mock labs and review these areas.
• During this learning approach, I know that I will be able to develop a
strategy for completing the labs in the time allotted.

Before I passed the R&S lab, I read several peoples strategies that they
employed. I TRIED to make their strategy FIT me. Once I developed MY OWN
strategy that WORKED for me, I passed the lab. Do not underestimate this in
your studies. When you take the time to work through the labs you will find
yourself developing a method to complete the labs. You are developing your
strategy!!! Be aware of this.

If you have a CCO account, you can go to Cisco Marketplace and order
the NFR kit; I believe it is $275 USD.

How did you get nfr kit ? Through cisco am ?

Yep, that's one of the things about
the new Linux appliances.. The hardware support is
really strict. Try an IBM or HP branded server
equalivent and you'll go crazy. But it's a LOT better
than customers installing stuff on the windows boxes and
wondering why the server doesn't work anymore and you spend
all night fixing it (basically reinstalling.)

If for a lab, install VMWARE on it like stated below and
run multiple applications on it. The 7845 would be a
pretty nice box for a VMWare machine. We have two in
our demo racks with Raid5, more memory, etc. Pretty
speedy.

If for production, must order another server. No way
around it. And you wouldn't want to go around it
anyways.

In HP 7845 Cisco recommended only the following.
MCS-7845-H2-IPC1
MCS-7845-H2-IPC2

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] v3.0 Workbook

2009-03-26 Thread Amp
I was wondering if labs 4a and 4b were the latest labs released for
the 3.0 track? Thanks.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] A few requests from a beginner...

2009-01-28 Thread Amp

Hey Shai,
You are absolutely correct, there are not a lot of books out here
covering everything for the v3.0 lab, however ever topic on the
blueprint is covered in one of the SRNDs, Configuration Guides, or
Design Guides.
You can start with the 7.x SRND at
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/7x/uc7_0.html.
The SRND for Unity Connection you can find here,
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/7x/design/guide/7xcucdg.html. Here is the Configuration and Maintenance Guide for Cisco Unified Presence, http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cups/7_0/english/config_maintenance/administration/guide/cupconfig.html. All of the topics on the blueprint you will find some supporting documentation via either the SRNDs (www.cisco.com/go/srnd) or through what used to be the DocCD but now the Product Support page (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/support/index.html). I am just now starting out on this journey as well, so I by no means have all the answers, but these are the documents that I am either reading or have downloaded to
read.

Hi again,

I have received a few emails answering my questions and I also asked
IPexpert sales department and there is no plan to issue any Written Exam
material for the voice CCIE (or any other track I think).

Vik Malhi and/or Mark Snow - any chance you could put your 2 cents here and
tell me exactly which books I should read?

 - if I go through the new blueprint it has a lot of new material and I am
having difficulty finding books that correlate to that knowledge expected of
me (https://cisco.hosted.jivesoftware.com/docs/DOC-3569).

Again - thanks for everyone,

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone can assist me with a few issues I have -

I am about to start my voice studies in about a month time (or a bit more) -
but because I have no knowledge at all on this direction I am having trouble
starting (not sure from where to start).

I should specify here that I am almost CCIE SP - but never studied voice
related material before.

So - I think I should start with CCNA Voice , go through the CCVP
certification and then start reading books related to voice, and hence my
problem -

1. Is there any organized study guide I can use to build my knowledge
from CCVP to CCIE - for the Voice Written Exam , and if not will IPexpert
consider creating such "Boot Camp" or "study guide" or anything else related
(especially with the new v3.0 announced and "IPexpert University" to begin
during 2009) ?

2. Can anyone provide a detailed list of books required to be read for
both the CCIE Written and CCIE Lab exam - knowledge wise ?
- I already have the Voice BLS and it should be more than enough, especially
after they will update it, to do the Voice Lab, but not for someone who
needs to study for the Voice Written Exam.

3. Another thing that came to mind - would anyone here recommend not
doing the CCNA Voice and the CCVP track, and start directly with CCIE level
Voice related books - because my ultimate goal is the CCIE Voice ?

Any thoughts or answers from anyone would be helpful.

Thanks everyone

Shai L.

That's strange, I am getting the same thing when I go to Proctor Labs Forum.

Hmmm.

Can't find the setup for a hardware VPN to support physical phones
on my end. The IP Expert Tech FAQ's hint at it, but provide no
guidance. ProtorLabs forums are completely hosed up and unusable
for some reason. Just a bunch of server debug coming to the browser.

  Hi Cliff,

Finally there are some questions on here that I can answer! ;)

  1. IPBlue = http://www.ipblue.com/download.asp?product=vtgo

  2. IPExpert Tech FAQs =
http://ipexpert.ccieblog.com/2008/11/01/proctor-labs-voice-faq/

& http://proctorlabs.com/forum/ for FAQ's on how to connect via
EZVPN... Also, when you schedule an online lab and have the rack
available there will be comprehensive instructions/config/VPN
profile made available before you connect!

  Hope this helps!
