RE: E-books [7:55001]
If it just goes with books this would be durable but you forgot to say how painful it is if you ever thought of having your own CCIE lab. Buying routers is some sort of unaffordable luxury, one becaeause of the range of salaries that when converted into its equivalent amount in dollars looks peanuts, the other is which makes it even worse is that we pay much more than the original price of the equipment to cover shipment and taxes imposed on any exported equipment. This makes the only feasable possibility to have a real lab over there if your company can afford one - for company's use - or just rely on your real experience through work. Ug.. life is just so unfair. I was laughing my headoff reading that e-mail of the guy who left USA to England and trying to same some money for his power chords. How to change hello without changing hello, or the flip side, how to change dead without changing dead. CL tested this and on 12.1.5T10 changing hello no longer changes dead, and changing dead no longer changes hello. Resetting the OSPF process does not result in changes to either parameter. Vlans [7:55172]
Hi, we have our network setup with 6509s in the floor risers as access switches, connected by fibre to a pair of 6509s in the data centre which route between the vlans. Why if I do a tracert from my pc to a PC on a different vlan, do I not see a hope indicating the routing between the vlans? Any idea's...? Study for CIT [7:55173]
I am study for the CIT: Possible problem and recommended solution: Switch cannot communicate with another device Another problem could be with the actual configuration of the interface. Make sure the interface you are connecting to (sc0 or me1) is UP (use the show interface command to check). Make sure the IP address, subnet mask, and VLAN membership of the switch interface (sc0 or me1) is correct (use the show interface command). To prevent conflicts, make sure the me1 and sc0 interfaces are configured with IP addresses and subnet masks in different subnets (use the show interface command to ! check), or disable one of the interfaces using the set interface {sc0 | me1} disable command. Question: make sure the me1 and sc0 interfaces are configured with IP addresses and subnet masks in different subnets to prevent conflict. What kind of conflict could have occurred? Thanks for the help. RE: CCNP brain dump!!!!!! [7:55166]
I can't help but jump into this discussion. Prior to joining the neworking field, I've zero experience and I wouldn't get where I am today if I didn't have the CCNP cert (back in Jan. 2000). As a biology major fresh out of college, I don't think any managers would be interested in a guy with no working experience and no certs. However, through the braindumps, I was able to get the CCNP cert in 2 weeks. Granted that I didn't have networking experience but I can pick up things very quickly. Furthermore, the one advantage I had going for me (at that time) is that I know how to build a franken pix firewall. Arm with this knowledge, I actually put this on my resume and look for jobs. I got several network security job offers including Nokia with a very nice salary (90k in Jan. 2000). I am making a lot more today. The point I am trying to make here is that CCNP braindumps is not such a bad thing if you know how to use it to your advantage. It will further enhance your career and financial rewards. my $0.02c - Do you Yahoo!? IP QoS with FR/ATM? [7:55175]
I am trying to understand how ip qos works with FR and ATM. I read that both FR and ATM do per vc queueing, is this true? If I configure CBWFQ udner one fr or atm pvc, does the router have two sets of queues? one set for different classes of ip packets, after the ip packet got dequeued from the ip layer, they will be queued again under that pvc? is it same for fr and atm? since the atm/fr vcs have cbr, vbr or cir, so they must have queues per pvc for cells or frames, ip qos such as CBWFQ has queues for different classes of ip packets, how do they work together? I can not find anything from cco, all of the qos docs either explain ip qos or atm/fr qos. thanks for any help. JJ __ Do you Yahoo!? Re: good alt. to a catalyst 3550 [7:55132]
The Cat 3550 is currently a new product so used items are hard to find. However, if you are not too far along in your CCIE preparation, you have some time. The fact that this question was not posted to the CCIELAB mailing list suggests that you may not be in a huge hurry yet. Many of the important lessons that you need to learn can be learned with a relatively cheap lab of Cisco 2500-series routers. No voice, no switch (except perhaps some really cheap switch), no ATM. Many of the hardest lessons to learn involve matters such as routing protocols and redistribution among routing protocols, as well as countless router IOS features -- which can be learned in a cheap lab. After 6 mos to 1 year, you may find that 3550s are available used from CCIEs who went before you. Yes, this means that for many months you may need to use lab scenarios that do not take advantage of the cutting edge features of the 3550s, or you will need to adapt scenarios to your topology. This is not optimal, but a lot of us have had to do this with other technologies (taking the ATM link out of a scenario, not doing the voice part, doing token ring with MAUs instead of the formerly-expensive TR switch). Best wishes, Tom Larus, CCIE #10,014 wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > I don't know of any alternative for the 3550. Re: Vlans [7:55172]
My guess is because the forwarding is done in hardware, the PFC. You will also notice that if you do a large file transfer for example and do a sh int vlan x you will not see the input/output counters register any traffic. Re: 7507 rate-limit [7:54987]
Not to be nitpicky but policing and shaping are two differant things. Shaping tries to buffer and queue traffic above a commited rate, smoothes it out. Policing drops packets above the commited rate,no buffering, enforcing said rate. Dave Schwantz wrote: > > Sorry, wrong choice of words perhaps. What I mean is to use the policing > features of ATM. Actually, it's not xenophobia. That would mean he was afraid of them. The technical term isn't racist, either, because he' got a problem with his nationality not race. Therefore, it would be nationalism. heheh...Just trying to have a little fun. :) Mr. Raju, you actually would be wasting your time, anyway. Brain dumps will give you some answers, yes, but the simple fact is, unless you understand the SCIENCE of it, you're NOT going to pass. Cisco exams are EXTREMELY good at verifying this. Re: protocol monitoring software [7:55110]
Sam, Since NetFlow is an L3 technology, it won't be supported on the 3500XL. You don't need it here anyway. You enable NetFlow at any L3 device which a workstation may use as its gateway to the rest of the network/Internet, and at your ASBR(s). As for the 2948G-L3, I'm not sure if its supported under CatOS; I coudn't tell you for sure one way or another without looking into it further. I do know that in IOS, NetFlow requires that you have an IP+ feature-set. Greg Reaume ""sam sneed"" wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... There are so many possible reasons, it's hard to list them all. A generic comment is that Trace Route isn't very relible. Routers (and so-called "switching routers") may not send back the ICMP TTL Expired for numerous reasons, including: ICMP is rate-limited ICMP is disabled for security reasons ICMP is disabled for performance reasons ICMP is disabled for traffic that arrives and leaves on the same interface bugs (not with Cisco?! ;-) Another possibility is that the traffic really isn't flowing through the router. What addressing are you using? What default gateway is configured on the PCs? Is the router doing Proxy ARP? Are the PCs assuming Proxy ARP is in use? How are the devices physically connected? Are you sure VLANs are really delineating broadcast domains? I have run into situations where a PC ARPs for a device not in its subnet, due to having no default gateway configured or the default gateway set to itself. Due to a VLAN misconfiguration or some other reason for the PCs hearing each others broadcasts (like they are in the same hub or whatever), the other PC responds rather than the default gateway and subsequent traffic flows directly, without the router getting involved. Since you can't trust Trace Route, you would have to put a protocol analyzer on the networks to determine if this is happening. ___ Priscilla Oppenheimer www.troubleshootingnetworks.com www.priscilla.com > > Thanks- > > > > > > > - > Get a bigger mailbox -- choose a size that fits your needs. > > Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=55214&t=55172 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: Study for CIT [7:55173]
The me1 interface is an out-of-band management interface on the 4000, as you may know. Unlike the in-band sc0, which is an internal logical interface that particpates in ordinary switching functions, including CDP and spanning tree, the me1 interface is a physical Ethernet interface that is used for configuration and problem resolution. Normally, the me1 interface is configured to be in a different subnet than the sc0 interface, allowing both interfaces to remain up. However, both interfaces may be configured in the same subnet or with the same IP address, but the sc0 interface will shut down. Interface me1 always takes precedence in this instance. For example, if you already have the sc0 interface configured with an IP address of 172.16.84.17 255.255.255.0, and you try to configure the me1 interface in the same subnet (172.16.84.18 255.255.255.0), you will see the following messages: Switch-A> (enable) set interface me1 172.16.84.18 255.255.255.0 172.16.80.255 This command places me1 and sc0 into the same ip subnet. The sc0 interface will be automatically configured down if necessary to resolve the conflict. Do you want to continue (y/n) [n]?y That's the issue they were probably trying to address with that confusing comment about "conflicts." ___ Priscilla Oppenheimer www.troubleshootingnetworks.com www.priscilla.com Tony Chen wrote: > > I am study for the CIT: > > > Possible problem and recommended solution: Switch cannot > communicate with another device > > Another problem could be with the actual configuration of the > interface. "During the maintenance window, a Company engineer loaded an incorrect routing table into a Cisco router. This mis-configuration was propagated across the network resulting in major link failures. As a result, links become overloaded and for all practical purposes were shut down. It appears that Cisco's involvement was limited to TAC support to help resolve the outage. A router mis-configuration during X Company's maintenance window caused the outage. Cisco Hardware and IOS software problems are not a factor." 1602 WIC-1DSU-T1 keeps getting QUICC_Serial:Reset [7:55234]
Hi all I have a 1602R with a WIC-1DSU-T1 card installed. I am trying to bring up the line, but the interface is down/down. The ISP swears that I have the correct linecode, frame type, and other settings. A debug serial interface shows: QUICC_Serial1: Reset from x45623q21 It keeps trying to restart and keeps getting reset with the above debug code. I have checked the cables. The lights on the WIC are CD illuminated and ALARM illuminated. I searched the archives and found someone had the same problem back in april with the a 1603 and the same debug trace, but no one replied. Please help! I have no where else to turn as I have no maintenance on this router. Re: 1602 WIC-1DSU-T1 keeps getting QUICC_Serial:Reset [7:55234]
Every time I have had the orange alarm light on one of my WIC cards, AND I was sure that all the cabling and everything on my end was OK, I found that it was the carrier. I would have them do a thorough diagnostics and see if they can latch on to your CSU, etc. ""Wilson, Christian"" wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > Hi all > > I have a 1602R with a WIC-1DSU-T1 card installed. ATM Problem [7:55238]
Greetings, I have a problem/question regarding a current ATM Circuit. Currently, our ATM cloud connects 4 of our sites. We submitted an order to add another site into the cloud. The telco provided the vpi's but only two sites communicate. Site C | | | Site A--- ATM CLOUD Site B | | | NEW Site Sites a, b, & c communicate correctly. The "NEW Site" was added but (pvc's to all sites), but will only communicate with Site A. Teloc has checked the VPI's and insists they are correct. Which brings up another strange item--All the VPI's were the same: New site Originating Destination 90 90 100 100 80 80 I have never noticed VPI's being the same on both ends,,Does this sound correct? OSPF is the routing protocol. But only "new site" and site a exchange info. Re: ATM Problem [7:55238]
Hi, The New site has 2 ATM PVCs defined, with a ip entry mapped to site A and C. Site C has a typo under it's map-list for the new site, going to 192.58.135.68 instead of 192.68.135.68. New site has no PVCs for site B yet configured. Also, this is multipoint non-broadcast interface so under OSPF you will neighbor statements. RE: ATM Problem [7:55238]
Eric, Thank you for your response. It was a typo on my part entering the information in the posting. The map-list in the router does have the correct IP address. I have defined (many times) the additional PVC's on the "NEW SITE" router/map list without any success. I apologize, I should have stated that in my previous posting. I inserted the neighbor statements in the OSPF process, but no success. THE SHOw IP OSPF Neighbor statement shows ATTMPT/DROTHER for site "c" but eventually shows as being down. Also, I receive a message on the "new site" router " sent youngest key0".. Thank You for your assistance.. -Original Message- From: Erick B. RE: ATM Problem [7:55238]
Bill, No problem. Well, lets start by trying to ping sites a, b and C from the new sites router console/telnet session. This way the ping is direct. If were able to do this then the PVC and map-list entries are correct. If the above doesn't work, then you'll need to verify the carrier has the PVCs mapped end-to-end correctly in their network. The ATM physical circuit might be fine and dandy but if they have multiple ATM switches this goes through and they have a mis-match in their PVC mappings then it isn't going to work. Again, not claiming to know a lot of ATM, but certainly understanding telcos who don't configure their part correctly.. does your carrier use ILMI at all? if so, you could set up ILMI and then do a debug to see what the telco is sending you. I'm trying to recall if there is a downside to doing a debug atm events of debug atm packet. seems to me I've locked up routers issuing one or the other of those. debug atm packet will show you activity links to pvc's - which in turn can tell you if anything other than keepalives are happening. as with frame relay dlci's, atm vpi / vci numbers are locally significant. I've done a number of RLAN's now ( DSL to ATM ) and the telco I work for has a convention such that anything from the DSLAM to the customer prem is pvc 0/35 and from the host ATM side the PVC represents a particular DSLAM and a particular port on that DSLAM. 2/27 would be DSLAM 2, port 27, etc. just about every problem I've encountered on an RLAN is the result of misconfiguration at the DSL / ATM handoff. best wishes ""Bill Smith"" wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > Eric, > > I appreciate your help. > > SITE A--PINGS ALL SITES > SITE C-- PINGS ALL but "new site" > NEW SITE--PINGS SITE A ONLY > > -Original Message- > From: Erick B. If these are indeed PVP's being supplied, then you should be able to check PNNI to make sure everyone sees each other. You PNNI masking may be off, double check everyone has the same PNNI level mask applied to the NSAP Nodes. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Bill Smith Sent: Wednesday, October 09, 2002 5:37 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: ATM Problem [7:55238] Eric, I appreciate your help. Yes indeed, you simply configure the frame and ATM as you normally would, and the provider will provide which vpi/vci maps to which DLCI. I think the traffic between the carrier's ATM cloud & frame relay cloud (& vice versa) translates via FRATM.
