I stopped buying long ago except isdn pbx,

basics on routers at home,

and started renting a few low budget ATM/VOICE etc. labs online.

Group,

I'm planning on purchasing my final addition to my RS home lab sometime
this month. I'm having a hard time deciding if I should add another 3550
(I have one already) or if I should pick up a Lightstream 1010 with two
4500s that have an OC3 MM interface. ATM for the 3600s is way too
expensive for me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

(Sorry if this message is a dub)

Which set of equipment (3550 vs ATM) can have the more devious requirements
in the lab? If two 3550s then buy it. If the ATM then buy it. I'd lean
towards the 3550 and rent time for the ATM. I have no LAB experience to back
up my opinion. Be forewarned.

On the other hand, does it only do OC3? That might be hard to use in a lab.
What would you connect it to?

If you can put that stuff below in English you might get a better answer. ;-)

If it also has Ethernet or serial, then you're in good shape.

Even if you can't connect anything to the OC3 interface, if you could at
least bring it up/up, maybe by turning off keepalives, then you can make it
a subnet and route and ping to it, so it becomes useful in a lab.

2003-06-10 Thread Daniel Cotts
Looks like he has two FastEthernet interfaces. If so, he can do Etherchannel
to a switch. He can always remove the ATM Port Adapter and install one with
different interfaces. PAs are still pricey. Others can comment - but I think
the posip card uses an entire VIP2-50. He might be able to remove the posip
interface and add other Port Adapters. Could be missing the center rail on
that VIP. Shouldn't be much of an issue - just use screws to attach the
PA(s).
Many of the CX series cards made for the 7000 series work in 7500s. There is
a table somewhere that shows which rev numbers are required to be 7500
compatible. Buy an eight port CX-FSIP (Fast Serial) and he has a honking
core router or frame switch. Prices on eBay can be quite reasonable for
older cards. He can buy Token Ring and FDDI (among others) should he wish to
experiment.

Question concerning a new 2501 router in home lab [7:64170]

2003-03-01 Thread Jim
I recently acquired a used 2501 router for my home lab that is booting with
no problem. There is no configuration so it asks if you want to auto config.
I try to enter an N at this point and get nothing it seems as if the
keystroke is not seen by the router. If I just run my hand across the
keyboard the router responds with enter a yes or no to continue. Any
suggestions to assist is greatly appreciated.

just for kicks, does it respond to the carriage return ( or the Y key?? )
??

at least if it does, then you could see if it is just a broken key on your

When you run your hand across the keyboard, do you touch it or is this a
psychic thing :-)
I'd check the parity on your terminal. It may be setting the wrong
parity for the router but ignoring incorrect received parity.

Thanks to all that responded. The problem is solved. I found an article that
related to this type of problems in 2502 routers that had an older version
of the boot rom not exerting CTS to allow the term emulator to send
information to the console port. By disabling flow control the problem was
resolved. Again thanks to all who responded.

... it's been posted before that 12.1(5)T is supposed to be running on
the Routers in the CCIE Lab. I have not attended the LAB, so I can't
say for sure. I think it may even be listed on the Cisco Website for
the CCIE Track.

My advice- if you can afford it (and memory is really cheap), I would
max out the RAM and FLASH on all of your routers. You might spend a
total of 300.00 USD on this, but it will be worth it.

Re: CCNA/CCNP home Lab setup [7:60727]

2003-01-10 Thread Marc Thach Xuan Ky
I've found that it's useful to have a variety of kit, and as many
routers as possible. Cisco prices on eBay have fallen through the
floor. A 4000 series with NP-4Ts is a good frame switch. 2500 are good
workhorses, best to get one with an ISDN BRI (I didn't and regretted
it). Once you have a couple of ethernet-based routers, don't discount
token-ring 2500s if they are cheap or any 3000 series router. 3000s are
ludicrously cheap at the moment and can run 2500 IOS 12.0 images. Don't
buy multiple 2600s unless you're rich. Two 12-port switches allows
better practise that one 24-port.

do you plan on doing lab practice on
ATM
Frame Relay
ISDN
Modem Dial

If so then you need 2 or 3 routers and atleast one switch. The routers need
capability for all the above since those topics are covered in the various
CCNP test. Its not necessary to do labs for the CCNP, but it helps.

Re: Reduce the noise from router fans for home lab [7:58648]

2002-12-11 Thread MikeS
A couple of things I've done..

1: enclosed rack..

2: Bose headset from ebay.. worth very penny and if you fly much, you will
wonder how you made it without them. I had a cheaper set but after 2 hours
my ears were sore from being squashed. I wore the Bose for a 14 hour flight
to/from France last month and never had a problem. They are a great study
aid for *quiet time*

3: On the Cat2900 for example, there are 3 fans.. it's been *my* experience
that in a home lab with moderate temps, you can disconnect 2 of the 3 fans
with good sucess. Same applies to the Cat5K depending on slot loads. It's
possible to buy quiter fans but it's a pricy solution.

I paid 200 for the enclosed 5' rack which was the number one reduction in
noise. I also leave off whatever equipment I dont need at that moment. I
use X10 controllers on the power lines and a handheld wireless remote or the
PC software to cycle them on and off as needed.

Subject: Reduce the noise from router fans for home lab? [7:58648]

I have a home lab of about 10 routers. Is there a way
to reduce or eliminate the fan noise? Are there
replacement fans that are less noisy? Anyone have any
tips? The noise is driving me kind of crazy and it
can't be good for my hearing in the long term.

Thanks,

Mike

Here is my lab setup there is one thing I think I am in desperate need
of and that is a frame switch I do not need the 3550 we are deploying
them at work and have access to them and also 5500's with the
lightstream equipment. After getting this lab together of course I have
spent some bucks as you can see below, but for the LABS like from NLI

don't see ags+ on ebay much anymore. I would like to just buy a 2521 if
it is sufficient and spend the rest of my allotted funds on purchasing
the labs. Or is there someone out there wanting to sell a ags+ or some

Elijah,

I use a 2521 as a frame switch in my home lab and that is enough for me.
Keep in mind that it only has four serial interfaces, so if you want to do
more frame connections, you will need the 2522 or 2523 which have ten serial
interfaces. You have more routers in your lab than I do. I only have six
routers (not including the 2521). So, the 2521 works well for the number of
routers I have.

 Hi group,

I want to get it right the first time. I intend
setting up my CCIE lab at home. I will appreciate if
someone that have taken the lab or preparing for it,
tell me what Switches, Routers, materials I need to
 buy.

Also information about the various needed blades on
the switches is important, cables, cards, modules,
 etc.

I currently have a cable connection and also a dialup
connection from home to the internet, are these enough
or do I need to get a second cable connection?

I curently have the following books:
 1. CCIE Fundametals Network Design and Case Studies
  2nd Edition by Cisco Press.

 2. Routing TCP/IP, volume 1 by Cisco Press (Jeff
 Doyle)

 also
 1. Cisco router 1601
 2. Cisco router 2502
 3. cisco router 3000

I intend buying Cisco Catalyst Switch 5000 within a

Please I will appreciate an answer for my big brothers

 towards it.

 Thanks in advance.

You need more books then those two. Vol 1 is a great book.
The cisco web page is the best place for information.

This is the Web page for the Cisco CD that you are allowed to use in the
lab. (The CD not the web page)
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/home/home.htm

You need to go to All Product Documentation then Cisco IOS Software
Configuration

You don't need a Catalyst 5000. The lab changed to Catalyst 3550 w/ the EMI
image. Two totally different switches.

Also get more routers, the 2500 series is good enough and cheap on ebay.

I currently have a cable connection and also a dialup

or do I need to get a second cable connection?

I curently have the following books:
 1. CCIE Fundametals Network Design and Case Studies

 2. Routing TCP/IP, volume 1 by Cisco Press (Jeff

CL: check out my web site for my own personal opinion of must have books
and other study materials:

http://www.chuckslongroad.info/BookList.htm

while you're poking around there, a couple of the Groupstudy Homilies are
worth looking at - distribute-list gateway and DiffServ-DSCP.

If you really want to do this at home - get one of the lab packages - NLI,
IPExpert, hello computers - and enough routers to emulate the topology. All
of the packages differ in router requirements. you don't necessarily need a
lot of 2600's, but you will need a lot of serial ports for frame relay and
for other topology simulation. you will need to fork out for at least one of
the 3550's.

IMHO, don't spend money on things like ATM and voice - rent a few hours of
rack time to practice this stuff. concentrate on practicing routing any and
all protocols over nmba, redistribution, qos, bridging, dlsw. these are the
keys, and if you don't get these right, the rest doesn't matter.

best wishes.

 also
 1. Cisco router 1601
 2. Cisco router 2502
 3. cisco router 3000

I intend buying Cisco Catalyst Switch 5000 within a

I agree with you, Peter.

Recently I was at a conference with some security gurus. They were working
on a system for ISPs to automatically notice and report to each other
security problems. The system required the ISP to have an automomous system
number. I pointed out that some ISPs don't have such a thing. There are
still quite a few small ISPs that depend on other ISPs who depend on other
ISPs, etc. The gurus sort of laughted at me. But really, a lot of the
attacks are going to come from Grandma's PC that Grandson forgot to secure
when he set up an ISP in his bedroom. If that's a bit extreme, I would also
say that a lot of attacks are going to come from compromised computers
behind cable or DSL modems, where the slightly larger ISP didn't stress
security enough either. That's my $0.02 anyway. Comments??

2002-10-03 Thread Gaz

In article , [EMAIL PROTECTED]
says...
 Dear GroupStudy,

Here is my interesting dilemma. I hope someone can lend some insight...

1 - I only have dial-up (no cable modem - i.e. no constant connection to
 Internet).
2 - I travel for work, so I'm not home very often.
3 - I have a lab that I would like to use rather often.
4 - I do not want to spend a lot of $$ on long distance to dial up my
 lab.
5 - I also do not want to spend a lot of $$ on electricity if the lab is
 not in use.
6 - I have (will have) an APC MasterSwitch PDU that I know can be used
to remotely power up/power down the lab.
7 - The lab consists of all 2500 series routers (7 of them).

I do not know if I can dial in to the PDU in order to power up the lab
(this I can figure out). Once the lab is powered up, is there a way to
have one of the routers dial up my ISP? But then, how would I know what
the IP address of the router is (since the ISP uses DHCP) in order to
 telnet to the lab?

One of the solutions I have thought of is to dial up my PC (with wake on
LAN - if that works on the modem), disconnect. Then the dial up
connection would be in my startup folder so the PC would dial the ISP
automatically. Then I would dial up the ISP from wherever I would be.
Then I still have the problem of knowing my IP address. A friend said
to use ICQ. I don't know how that works, but will try it.

I think I have covered everything. Thanks in advance for any help.

 Jake Secrist
I set a similar thing up at home although it doesn't answer all of your
questions it may give you other ideas. Try www.no-ip.com.
For simple dynamic DNS they offer a free service. It seems to work fine
for me.
I use Windows XP remote desktop to a home PC and connect to everything
else from there. Bit of a strange set-up, but I use Internet Connection
sharing on the XP box and all the routers sit behind that.
I suppose the security may not be wonderful?? but to be honest I don't

I don't have the problem of remote power on, as I have a much more
complicated and infinitely more expensive device which powers everything
on when needed. Unfortunately she's not always in when I call, but you
can't have everything :-)

2950 v.s 3550 for home lab QoS [7:53784]

2002-09-20 Thread cebuano

Hi.
For those who know about the extent of QoS scenarios to anticipate or
prepare for in the lab, and knowing that there will most likely be TWO
L3 switches per rack; can anyone comment on the possibility of using a
2950 as a second switch if a 3550 is already in one's home lab? Some of
the features NOT available in the 2950 are QOS- Marking Classification,
QPM, L2 - L4 QOS ACLs, DSCP, IGMP, ISL, and only Layer 2 Multilayer QOS
/ Security is supported.
Thank you for your input.

Home lab (Cisco Routers + switches )available for renting ---- [7:52819]

2002-09-06 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi all,
I am putting my cisco home lab online just rise some fund for my second
attempt.
It consists of
 1x Cisco 3620
 1x Cisco 2621
 1x Cisco 2520 ? ( configured as frame-relay switch)
 1x Cisco 2514
 5 x Cisco 2501
 1 x Catalyst 4003

The rent on this will be $20 per day. I want to make it cheap so that
anyone can afford it. It does not have everything a ccie needs but you can
achieve a lot with these routers. My suggestion is to use this lab to
learn + test and practice the all the stuff you can do with it eg IGP, BGP,
NAT, IPSEC, routing, IPX etc. Then book a more expensive lab where you can
use to practice/test more advance stuff such as ISDN, ATM and voice.
This lab will provide a good hands on practice for those who are pursuing
CCNX track.

Please note that this is my home lab and I also use it for my ccie
practice. Let me know if you are interest, and I can give you details on
how to reach the routers. Please send you request to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
email account. The lab will be available from 16th of September so you can
request you dates after this time.

Thank you and Good luck to you all with your ccie studies.

Thanks
Hemant

Re: CCIE Home Lab [7:49369]

2002-07-22 Thread Thomas Larus

DO NOT buy a Cat 5500 for the home lab if you are doing so for the CCIE.
They are taking the 5500 off the Lab. Read the list about these and other
recent changes. They were announced less than a month ago, and there has
been a lot of discussion here.

Now you could still buy a Cat 5500; just don't do it because you think it
will be on the CCIE lab. They are dropping in value daily, so you might be
able to learn something for CCNP switching test on a very cheap Cat 5000.
My Cat that I was proud to have put together at reasonable price will go
someday for MUCH less than I paid for it. Also, do not even think of buying
a 3900 TR switch.

I agree! I am confused on the issue. I ordered the GBIC-SX for the 6509
but was worried about the difference between it and the WS-X5484. What is
the difference?? I can't find any information saying concretely that
there is a difference.

on a completely different topic, are the GBIC-SX and the WS-X5484
different
names for the same identical piece of equipment?
If so, where on CCO does it say so? If not, then why not use a single part
number?

I ask because there seems to be a difference of opinion, with some folks
at
Cisco saying absolutely they are different and not interchangeable, and
some
folks not at Cisco, but with beau coup field experience saying there is no
difference whatsoever and the parts are exchangeable problem free.

just wondering where a guy goes to get The Truth ;-

 Hi,

I know that this may have come up many times. But since I'm about to
start
preparing for the CCIE lab, it would be great if anyone could give me
some
suggestions on this. I'm planning to continue to build up my lab.

 Currently, I have the following:

 2 x 1603R

 3 x 2501

 2 x 2503

 2 x 2511

 1 x Cat 5000

I'm thinking whether I should get the below:-

 2 x Token routers - maybe 2 x 2502?? MAU?? What else do I need for
Token??
I
really don't know what else I need...

 1 x Frame switch -

1 x ISDN Simulator (do u know which one is good?)

And I probably need to upgrade RAM / Flash on my routers... since most
of
them only had 4MB Flash on the moment...

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks

Have a look at the link from Cisco. They will be removing Token Ring and the
3920 Switch and replacing the 5500's with 3550's which can do layer 3 and
other new advanced features.

2002-06-13 Thread Byron Bean

from CCO:

Lab Exam Content and Equipment Changes

CCIE candidates should note changes to the technical content and equipment
in the lab exam. Effective October 1st, 2002, candidates will no longer be
tested in the areas of IGRP, Token Ring, Token Ring Switching, or IPX. Note:
DLSW+ will remain as a protocol that can be tested in the lab. The Catalyst
5500 switch will be replaced with the Catalyst 3550.

Fw: CCIE home lab [7:46395]

2002-06-13 Thread Dennis Laganiere

I put together a free document with accumulated list wisdom on starting lab
preparation on www.laganiere.net, but just off the top of my head -

1) You only need one terminal server, and the 2511's sell well on ebay, so
I'd keep the better one, and sell the other to raise cash to buy some of the
other things you'll need.

2) If you're planning to take the exam before October, keep the 5k,
otherwise sell it and get an IOS-based switch (as of today).

3) Unless you're planning to take the exam before October, forget the TR
stuff (as of today).

4) You definitly want something with more then four serial ports so you can
do frame

5) It's great that you have the 2503's, but get an ISDN sim (remember that
you might need NT1's)

6) Max the memory out on the routers and load up the most feature-rich
current IOS you can find.

Voice and ATM can be done on-line cheaply enough. At that point, you've got
a great pod, and can do most anything. I'd only suppliment it as you start
doing labs and see that you need specific things.

I hope that helps...

Will Cisco continue to focus on the Cat 5 for the CCNP switching or will

If so, then keeping my CAT5 does not make sense. But then who would buy

CCIE home lab [7:46395]

2002-06-12 Thread Hunt Lee

Hi,

I know that this may have come up many times. But since I'm about to start
preparing for the CCIE lab, it would be great if anyone could give me some
suggestions on this.

MAU?? What else do I need for Token?? I
really don't know what else I need...

1 x Frame switch -

1 x ISDN Simulator (do u know which one is good?)

And I probably need to upgrade RAM / Flash on my routers... since most of
them only had 4MB Flash on the moment...

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you are going to be doing that LAB after Oct 1, then heed the news that
Cisco has posted and don't bother with the TR as it will be gone from the
LAB altogether. And so will the Cat5000 that you have.
Instead sell the Catalyst and with the money you would've spent on the TR
routers, and the money from the Catalyst 5K, buy a 3550 switch (which will
be in the LAB after Oct 1), and maybe tyhe ISDN and a router to use as a
Frame Switch like you mentioned.

Take it for what it's worth. If you are going to do your LAB before then,
then justy continue on

Good Luck!

Re: CCIE home lab [7:46395]

2002-06-12 Thread Chuck

on a completely different topic, are the GBIC-SX and the WS-X5484 different
names for the same identical piece of equipment?
If so, where on CCO does it say so? If not, then why not use a single part
number?

I ask because there seems to be a difference of opinion, with some folks at
Cisco saying absolutely they are different and not interchangeable, and some
folks not at Cisco, but with beau coup field experience saying there is no
difference whatsoever and the parts are exchangeable problem free.

just wondering where a guy goes to get The Truth ;-

Yes, I think it's a good idea to purchase your own equipment. It's there
whenever you need it, you can do whatever you want with it, and you're more
apt to practice on it if it's right down the hall!

:-) I can argue this from both perspectives. On the one hand, I am
involved in a virtual rack business (suitable disclaimers apply). The
advantages there are not having to purchase expensive and specialized
equipment, predefined scenarios and other educational material, and
technical support. It's also easier on cash flow.

Again with all due caveats, I really think a remote rack is a better
learning technique--even if that remote rack is in your house and
accessed via a terminal server. When you get into the real
operations world, all your routers are NOT going to be in the same
room, and you might as well get experience doing things through a
console. The new CCIE lab also is structured this way.

As an instructor, I found the newer students did seem to derive a
certain comfort level from actually being able to see the equipment,
but quite honestly, I found this to be a mental crutch. Until you
really master remote console access, telnetting between routers,
etc., you aren't going to get the speed for the CCIE lab.

If you're at the CCNA level and can afford it, the tradeoffs are
somewhat different. Having 2 or 3 (preferably) cheap routers (e.g.,
2501) and perhaps a switch could be a cheap way to get comfortable
with the CLI. It's a whole different world when you need ISDN, ATM,
voice, etc., simulators.

But Shawn, you also remind me (I'm a telecommuter) that I have a
fairly good gym in my house. I'm not nearly as likely to get into my
car and drive to the local gym than I am to jump on the exercise bike
or do some bench presses when Cisco has rotted my brain.

Of course, to the best of my knowledge, nobody has gotten
cyberbodybuilding to work (I'm not talking about morphed images).

Re: Home LAB [7:41897]

2002-04-19 Thread cebuano

My two differing views, each bounded by its own lifespan...
1. Buy your own equipment.
Well, not only are there failed dot-coms but also failed efforts and hopes
from
individuals thinking it would be an easy path to CCIE-dom. Both provide
constant
overflow of routers/switches on eBay that the prices have dropped by more
than
50% (mostly) in the past 10 months. Plus if you're not yet in IT, getting
exposed to
REAL Cisco gear for the FIRST time AFTER you've passed the lab...UHMM...

2. Rent remote rack.
This i think will become the ONLY solution for most individuals when the
CCIE
lab gets revamped. As you can see from the changes of content already
confirmed
by the new areas individuals get tested on starting from the CCNP series,
it's only
a matter of time before a Cat5 and 8 2500/4500's just won't give you the
ability
to perform half of what will be covered in the lab. Example: MLS, MPLS,
Voice,
PNNI...the list goes on with new technologies that are very likely to
replace Token
Ring. AND, with the remote practice labs, you have the brains of the people
behind
it (like Howard) to provide you scenarios that either show you how far
you've
progressed or how far behind you are in your studies.

My 2 cents.
Elmer Deloso

AGS - BUILDING HOME LAB - Which LAB Books are best [7:40758]

2002-04-07 Thread H Howard Lewis Bloom

I presently am studying for the CCNP. I have 4 routers:

All run enterprise 12.2 FW IPSEC - the whole enchilada
All are 16/16

I have a 2514 running my internet connection to Comcast

And three more routers:

2514
2504
2522 - this was the sweetest, I just picked it up off Ebay for $550

I'm thinking of picking up a cheap AGS with 6 eth and 8 serial ports,
TR, and FDDI. It appears to have 16 and 4 memory. What is the max
memory for these units and can it be found today?

Also, can anyone suggest a really good book that has excellent lab
scenarios. I can telnet to my routers from anwhere, (I know, I
havent' figure out how to SSH or Rlogin yet) so once I set up the
wiring I can tear down and rebuild remotely.

Any suggestions?

Howard Bloom

I studied CIM version 1.0, it is good but u know its simulation. It has
 limitation.
Now I am willing to buy equipment.I don't know what are the minimum

I know ISDN I can access over online rack accessing as well as cat5xxx.
What are the things I need to practice on routers?

Thanks in advance for your feed back.

RE: wan home lab [7:38829]

2002-03-27 Thread Daniel Cotts

You'll need to purchase an external CSU/DSU to connect to the 2500. Usually
uses a V.35 cable between router and CSU/DSU. Then connect the internal
CSU/DSU of the 2600 to the external CSU/DSU. T-1s use pins 12 and 45.
Create a rollover cable swapping those two pairs and you're good to go.
Remember Clocking Internal on one of the CSU/DSUs.
A good source for used equipment is eBay. Buy the box first - then the
cable. Larscoms use an RS530 cable.

wan home lab [7:39441]

2002-03-25 Thread vincent spain

This weekend I purchased 2 Cisco routers 2501 w 2 serial and 1 Ethernet
ports I have a

2600With a T1 csu/dsu card and 2 fast Ethernet ports. I am creating a set up
to link all three

together to prepare for ccnp exams. I understand that I am going to need an
external

Csu/dsu and a t1 crossover I believe.

I want to create a WAN setup that will be the best one for the exam I need
suggestions on

connections the only cable I have is a dte/dce that came with the 2 routers.

I will need to purchase cable for setup and I want to ensure that I purchase
the correct

ones any advice would be very much appreciated.

RE: wan home lab [7:39441]

2002-03-25 Thread Michael Witte

The DCE/DTE cable is all you need. On the cable that is marked DCE you must
use the clockrate 64000 under the seral port you are using.
If the cable is not marked, do a show controller int s0 and it will show
what serail port is a DCe, which is a DTE. To simulate frame-relay all that
is necessary is the encapsulation frame-relay under bothe serial
interfaces. You should be able to do a no shut and both intf should be up.

It sounds like you just need another DTE cable to attach to the external
CSU/DSU. The T1 crossover will work to connect the two.

There is a white paper on the ccprep site called CCIE Home Lab White
Paper. It discussing a number of these cabling issues:

Re: wan home lab [7:38829]

2002-03-19 Thread Guy

You will need a CSU/DSU, for one of the 2500 routers... then a loopback line
cable (easy to make). then you could do what you are wanting... But to
behonest with you, when you hook up 2 serials together, you are simulating a
wan connection, default is T1 unless you change the bandwidth command...

RE: wan home lab [7:38829]

2002-03-19 Thread Kelly Cobean

Given that you are sending channelized data from the 2600, you will need an
external CSU for the 2500 to return the channelized data from the 2600 back
to serialized data. The cabling between the two CSU's is a simple crossover
cable where the pinout is:

1 -- 4
2 -- 5
4 -- 1
5 -- 2

Then you'd need a V.35 to (presumably) DB-60 for the connection from the CSU
to the 2500. Configure the CSU's to utilize all 24 channels, and
POOF...Simulated T-1...

Hope this helps.

Resend: Is LightStream 100 good for home lab? [7:38748]

2002-03-18 Thread Jeffrey Hall

This didn't make it the first time.

I am wondering if the LightStream 100 is a good, low-cost substitute for the
LS1010 for a home lab. The spec sheet looked like it could do everything I
would need for the CCIE lab, but not having any experience with the LS100, I
wanted to see if anybody had a good advice on this piece of equipment?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff Hall

Re: Home LAB for CCIE ??? [7:37618]

The Catalyst 2924XL uses IOS . Catalyst 5000 series switches uses CatOS (the
set based OS).
You need at least a switch that is running CatOS in your home lab.
