[Dx4win] DX4WIN Demo Bug

2009-05-27 Thread Radivoj Kar
I've just re-subscribed to the Reflector and seen messages about "Demo Bug".
After upgrading to v. 7.07.02 it happens to me too. In order to ease
identification of the cause, here is the messsage I sent to Paul by mail today.
I did not attempt to use any Filters, it just happened when I wanted to save
and exit from DX4WIN:

"Hi Paul,
I have a serious problem with my last version 7.07.02 of DX4WIN, which never
happened with previous versions:

Tried to save my log before exit: “ An exception occurred. Can not create file.
The system can’t find the path specified” . Could save log only by “Save AS” .
After “Saving As” tried to Exit: “Thread error. Acces is denied (5)”. Could
exit only by Ctrl-Alt-Del/Task Manager.
Another time got DX4WIN frozen but word “WRITING” was being displayed in the
information field
The worst happened last night: program after two QSO’s being logged, suddenly
reverted to “Demo mode” and refused to save QSOs. Also, these last two QSO’s
have disappeared from the log !

The only other applications that were running on my Windows 2000PRO PC were
microHAM USB device Router 7.2.4 , NOD32 antivirus, ZoneAlarm Pro 5.5.094  and
Internet packet cluster/spots (connection to F5MZN cluster).

Is it possible that some of incoming cluster messages could cause such a
strange behaviour ?

Please help as I am extremely worried with losing QSO’s made with some rare DX
stations…."

Radi, F6GNZ

Re: [Dx4win] Locked in Demo mode: Pbm NOT soved for all cases

2009-05-27 Thread Radivoj Kar
My all files are "archive" but DX4WIN still reverts to Demo mode from time to
time. When started, it always finds and loads the last log file used and
reverts to Demo after some time of use.
So, wo2n had a particular problem that was solved by making files "archive" ,
but it doesn't mean the issue is fully resolved for other cases. Paul suggested
to try to disable antivirus and see if revert to Demo mode still persists, so
will try this.

If you copied the files from CD, they may all be read-only on your hard drive.

Try giving all the files write permission and see if the problem goes away.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Demo Bug

2009-05-27 Thread Radivoj Kar
Hi Mel,
The Thread error happened right after I tried to save my log , got error
message "an exception occured, cannot crfeate file, the system can't find the
path" , saved a log with "save as" and then tried to exit. So, it seams these
two errors are somehow related. The program did not revert to Demo mode during
this event, it happened in another occasion...
So, these three bugs may be mutualy related or not, and depending on same or
different circumstances...
Will try to follow Paul's advice to temorarily disable NOD32 antivirus.

They are different issues Radi. The Demo bug I believe was around in ver 6
also... but it has been a while so I am not sure. The Thread Error I believe is
only in ver 7... (at least I never saw it earlier) but I have never heard of it
happening unless there is a hardware/configuration issue. I thought it was
happening when you tried to write the file. If it is happening on exit, you
could create this error if you are using USB devices and turning them off
before you exit your program. When the program tries to close the port, it
would hang with a Thread Error. Why the program doesn't handle this error more
gracefully only Paul could answer.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN v.7.05.04 Help files inactive

2009-05-28 Thread Radivoj Kar
In previous version 6.04, clicking Help-Contents brought in the Help File on
the screen. Idem for the "Search for the help on" .

In ver. 7.05.04 , despite the fact that helpfile.pdf and usrguide.pdf are both
in the Docs folder of DX4WIN,  clicking Help-Contents results in :
"Warning. Could not get help contents. Error=0 Msg: The operation completed
successfully"
Hitting "Search for help on" : nothing happens

How to get Help working OK?

Hi Mel,

Thanks for suggestion. Found two shortcuts for help file in c:\docs and
settings\RK\recent, one with Start in c:\program files\dx4win707, another in
c:\program files\dx4win604 (this one remained after deleting dx4win604
directory and files). After deleting this remaining old shortcut, hoped it
would solve the problem, but hasn't !

Make sure the shortcut "Start in" is set to the DX4Win root directory.

This will still get confused from time to time if you use the Common Dialog
control... but next time the program starts it should be OK again.

Radi, if you are using one of the more popular email programs you should be
able to set rules to handle this.  I am not sure about Lotus, but Outlook
can do this on your client side.

[Dx4win] Backup Of Logbook to Floppy

2003-12-11 Thread Radivoj KAR
Bud,

I suggest you better use the PCMCIA or USB flash memory card for backup: it
is much faster and has more space than the floppy, so you even do not need
to zip the log. Furthermore, you can even install and run DX4WIN from there,
so that you can use the program and files on different PC's during portable
operations (providing they run the same OS).

If the size of a logbook file (zipped) is greater than the 1.44M

You're right, but flash memory is still faster, no aging mechanical

I don't know how many people use ZIP drives, but a single 250 MB ZIP drive
will handle more QSOs than I could ever create in a lifetime. ZIP even
offers software that will automatically backup any file or files you
specify whenever those files change. Lots of options, Bud.

[Dx4win] Backup Of Logbook to Floppy

2003-12-12 Thread Radivoj KAR
Tom,
Yes, it is a nice way to do it, but it would be even better if a function
could be integrated into DX4WIN software, so when one exits, DX4WIN
automatically saves log into the original save directory and then backups
the copy of this into a pre-configured (in "Preferences") external drive
(USB/PCMCIA flash, ZIP or floppy)...

I hope in one of the next Christmas versions of DX4WIN, Paul will make the
program fully operator-independent: it would permanently monitor DX Spots,
pick-up the needed ones, switch TX to desired band/frequency, turn antenna,
make a QSO out of the pile-up, log it, print QSL and announce good news to
operator entering into the shack by playing a "Marseillaise" and blinking
the worked rare DX-ped call in large Christmas fonts on the screen!

After writing this, a flash blew in my mind, reminding me of the old
nineteen-fifties/sixties, working with home-brew equipment, spending long,
cold nights tuning my 1-v-1 RX to find and pick-up that weak, low-power DX
out of the noise and make a QSO, happy to get 449 for my 20-50 watt signal
(I used to be YU1KG at that time..).
What does it take to make us happy now?

Dick,

I used to use a ZIP but have since changed over to a USB Jumpdrive. I have
a small batch file that zips the entire /save directory and copies it onto
the jumpdrive. I have a copy of pkzip in the save directory and an icon on
the desktop that calls this batch file:

cd c:\Progra~1\dx4w603\save
pkzip -u -x*.~?? F:\dx4win\dx4w603.zip *.*

Works like a charm...

[Dx4win] Filter spots per origin

2003-11-01 Thread Radivoj KAR
Hi Paul,

I've got retired and have more time for QSO's. I found out that many local
clusters announce spots received from anywhere. US hams are surely not
interested seeing their spot window filed-up with 160-meter and 80-meter
spots announced by European stations. And I can't make any use of the VK9
spot announced by a JA station...
So, if you're still motivated to keep DX4WIN the Number One ( and I am sure
you are! ), it would be fine to add a possibility to Preferences to
filter-out the spots announced from some major high-activity countries. I
know that sometimes I could hear a rare DX announced by a W-Ham, but then
other EU ops could hear it too and some of them would also announce it...
What do you think about my proposal?

It's already there, Radi, on the Packet 1 screen in Preferences. You can
select spotters by prefix or zone.

[Dx4win] Another wish: Multiple DX4WIN "Preferences"

2004-12-30 Thread Radivoj KAR
Hi Paul,

Just returned from ZK1GNZ and FO/F6GNZ DX-pedition, which has led me make
you a wish for one of the next releases of DX4WIN:

My suggestion is to separate the licensing procedure from "Preferences" .
Different "Preferences" should be edited and used when creating new logs
during field-days, portable and DX-peditions, with different callsigns, QRA
locations and equipment configurations used by the same licensee. In this
case, the CW and PSK function key message "%~ " could be related to the
temporary callsign, and not to the licensed callsign, which would avoid need
of manual replacement of this string by the temporary used callsign.

With thanks for your excellent work and support, I wish to you, Steve and
all DX4WIN fans a happy New Year 2005.

[Dx4win] CW function-key with USB RS232 emullation

2004-11-13 Thread Radivoj KAR
Hi Paul,
I have purchased very fine and versatile Micro-Keyer (MK) from OM7ZZ
(www.microham.com ), which allows full computer control, Iambic keying,
CW/PTT and PSK/Packet/RTTY/SSTV interfacing with my FT1000MP (and other
modern rigs) over the USB port of the laptop (many new laptops today do not
have RS232 comports). The MK uses a program that emulates RS232 COMports
over the USB port, without need to manually define the IRQ's.

I have configured DX4WIN preferences on my Win2000Pro Pentium III 1GHz
laptop (the same one that was used to control radio via RS232 ) to use now
the COM4 for radio control and COM5 DTR/RTS for CW and PTT keying.
Everything works fine as before (when I was using COM1 RS232 for radio
control, CW and PTT keying), except one thing:

The messages stored in buffers of the CW function-key keyer of DX4WIN are
now being sent with a lot of errors: omission of dots, replacement of dashes
by dots, change of spacing/weights...

The examples (changing randomly):
F6GNZ becomes --> R6GNZ, R6GIZ, F6RNZ..
F6EPY --> F6PY, R6EPY..
UP --> AG, AP
QRZ --> QNZ

I first thought the problem could be either in the USB/RS232 driver
software or within the micro-Keyer software. But, I found that with another
(contest) logging software (WinTest by F5MZN), installed on the same laptop,
there is no problem nor distortion of CW strings sent from its function
buffers over the USB interface. I tried to inhibit all other programs
running in the background, but still no improvement of DX4WIN CW keying. So
,I suppose DX4WIN uses some different software routine for CW keying than
WinTest.

As the issue may have a similar impact on the future non-RS232 port provided
PCs, which would use USB/RS232 emulators to interface DX4WIN with rigs,
would you please give me your thoughts on the above, and let me know if the
issue is dependent on the USB driver program used, and if yes, do you
suggest using a particular one. I could use the internal MK CW buffers to
store message strings, but it won't be able to read and insert the
correspondent's callsign nor automatically log the QSO, like it can be done
by the use of the DX4WIN buffers in CW pileups.

Thanks in advance for your help.

73,
Radi F6GNZ

2004-11-18 Thread Radivoj KAR
Hi Paul and Steve,

Good news: OM7ZZ has revised his USB router and I have just installed and
tested it: CW from DX4WIN works PERFECTLY over the USB port, without ANY
faults! So, I guess no need to do anything from your side, as the issue can
be solved within the USB driver routines!

Best 73 and keep a good work...

[Dx4win] Strange:DX4WIN accessible via another ISP !

2004-10-12 Thread Radivoj KAR
Hi,
Thanks to all sending me info on accessibility on their end. I tried to
connect using my old PSTN ISP account and wonder: over this provider I can
access the site.
But, it still remains inaccessible via my hi speed cable ISP (UPC). This
happens after I have replaced old 512kbps cable modem with a new 2048 kbps
modem they sent me a week ago.

Is it some inhibition of the access string by the modem because it is
similar to some command in a new modem, is it possible that ISP filters
access to the site, or something happens in my Windows2000PRO/Explorer v.6
related to the selection of DX4WIN site via this ISP?

Any suggestions ?

You may also be infected with Ad Ware or Spy Bots or Spy Ware (have heard it
called all three names). Sometimes they will cause your browser to
re-direct. Suggest you get either Adaware, or Spy Bot (both free and they
can be found using google search) to clean your system. Which ever one you
get, keep it up to date and scan every so often. I like the new Ad-A-Ware

Sorry, Radi. The problem was all on my end (as web host of
DX4WIN.com). The IP block that you are using, 84.x.x.x, was an unroutable
block of IPs until recently. My firewall is set up to block IPs that are
not routable, and I missed the fact that some of the IPs in the 84.x.x.x
block of IPs have been assigned and are legitimate, routable IPs.

The problem has been resolved, and you should be able to reach

[Dx4win] Spot filtering by zone pbm

2004-10-18 Thread Radivoj KAR
Hi Kevin,

Yes, it is clear, but what I said was that if I do not set up filtering in
the IP cluster and I set a filtering in DX4WIN, I still get all unfiltered
spots, which did not occur with my 5.03-VHF cluster configuration.
But it's not a severe pbm, just question of curiosity whether dx4win is
designed not to use its own filtering with IP clusters.

Subject:Re: [Dx4win] Spot filtering by zone pbm

Hi, Radi.

I don't _know_ how DX4Win works, but here's what I suspect. DX4Win
filters what comes to it from the cluster. If the cluster is configured
to filter spots, DX4Win applies its filters to that already-filtered
stream.

So, if your TCP/IP connection is set up to filter out all spots other
than zones 14, 15 and 16, then DX4Win will only see spots for those
three zones. It will apply its own filters to that stream.

I hope that helps. Personally I prefer the cluster-side filtering, but
that's because I'm doing more complex filters (low bands, vhf, uhf) that
I find more easily configured on the cluster. That's my preference
right now. I've used DX4Win's zone filters successfully, too.

[Dx4win] CW in Contest Mode

2004-10-23 Thread Radivoj KAR
Hi Paul,

In December I will go to DX-ped to Hiva-Oa (Marquises Islands) and Cook and
would like to avoid using special contest software. To have DX4WIN useable
in pileups, when in Contest Mode it needs only to have Alt-K window
permanently enabled (not just on the screen), so that after entering one's
callsign, he could be called and reports exchanged immediately via PC
function keys, without need to use mouse to jump from logging window into
the CW window, and then back to be able to log the QSO.

Do you think such a "special" could be added in a reasonable time, and would
you wish to do it?

Subject: [Dx4win] ADIF County Conversion v 1.6 released
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

ADIF County Conversion v1.6 is released. You can find it at:

http://www.ad1c.com/dx4win/#County

The following new states are now supported (old states in ()):

AL (CA) FL GA IL IN MI MN NC OH (PA) TN (TX) WI

I have tested most of these with Writelog (except AL, MI and MN) but have
not tested with any other logging programs. If there are problems, let me
know and I will fix them.

Next on the agenda is to add support for Mid Atlantic QSO Party and New
England QSO party.

These are the known issues:

1. County line operations are not supported. There is no part of the ADIF
specification
which describes what to do. The program will probably just print a
warning.

2. Some calls are not converted because they do not *appear* to be from
the USA,
 for example KH2D/4 and NL7AU/4.

3. In PA QSO Party, the program will issue a warning about ARRL sections.

Hi,

I found it is better to set QSL received flags in DX4WIN, export into BV7
and do QSL printing from there.
I haven't tried to do what you have been doing, so don't know if the same
error message would appear after re-importing into DX4WIN. I do all my QSL
management in BV7, it's a great program for this. The only limitation is
that it is too difficult to set-up printing directly to QSL cards if one has
them with already pre-printed QSO data fields..

[Dx4Win] Yaesu FT-1000MP

2005-02-04 Thread Radivoj KAR
Hi,

I'd like to know if the FT1000MP Mark V or Field owners have the same
problem as identified in FT1000MP:

Pushbutton band change follows correctly the user preselected ANT A/B per
each band, but the CAT interface does not support it (same with any logging
program, not only DX4WIN). Wonder if Yaesu has taken care of this issue in
the current new generations of FT1000MP variants.

Below is the message sent by Paul to Yaesu back in 1998, which seems never
received any response from them.

Reply-To: Paul van der Eijk <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hi,

I was about to send this to Yaesu, but I wonder if anyone on 'OUR'
reflector has any insight. Meanwhile, be aware of this problem!

Dear Madam / Sir,

I'm the author of DX4WIN, a Windows logging program which supports many of
your radios. Some of our users encountered the following problem with the
FT-1000MP:

The users sets all bands for Antenna1 except for the 160M band which uses
Antenna2. When the radio is using Antenna1 and my program sets a new
frequency in the 160M band, the radio will not switch to Antenna2
automatically. This can lead to a substantial impedance mismatch, resulting
in damaged equipment etc if the user does notice this in time.

So I wonder if there is a way that the radio selects the correct antenna
when setting a new frequency programmatically. Hopefully this can be
accomplished with a setting on the radio rather then programming very
specific code for this model.

Looking forward to your reply,

73 de Paul, KK4HD

[Dx4win] Anybody using FT1000MP Mark V?

2005-02-08 Thread Radivoj KAR
Hi Leo,

I have tried with other logging/control software, and the same problem
exists, so this is the Yaesu and not DX4WIN problem! I just want to know if
Yaesu has recognised it and has done something to correct the issue in the
next generation of their radios. It seems to me ICOM listens much more to
their users (I have asked them why they don't include the real-time clock
with date/time in their radios and they've done it immediately).

Now, with good propagation on 160, it happens to me often when I change
bands by clicking on the spot, to transmit to the wrong power amplifier and
antenna from my FT1000MP (I have antenna output A connected to one linear
amplifier and my HF beams, and output B going to another amplifier/antenna
dedicated only to 160-meters)

It is a pity, as it may just be a C.A.T. software modification in the
FT1000MP, but Yaesu maybe just doesn't care...

Yes, I'm using the same rtx and I have the same problem.

And I am monitoring your question with big interest because I have NOT
found any way to manage the info "antenna per band" in the DX4WIN Radio

A pray:
"Please, OM that read the messages and don't answer... Please give us a

[Dx4win] IC706 Radio frq control

2005-02-12 Thread Radivoj KAR
Just found something strange ( v. 6.04):
Trying to use Radio Frequency Control window to set split frequency of
IC706:
1. Check Split box: IC706 goes to SPLIT mode; Uncheck box: IC706 stays in
SPLIT mode
2. Main: 7070 kHz, Check Split box and shift QSX to 7075: IC706 behaves OK,
but after 1-2 seconds Split box un-checks and QSX reverts to 7070 kHz, but
IC706 still keys correctly between 7075 TX and 7070 RX. This happens at any
change of any QSX frequency.
3. Sometimes, both displays jump randomly to weird frequencies, but radio
still behaves normally.

With FT1000MP there is no problem, radio follows split on/off checkbox, QSX
frequency display stays as selected...
I suspect the reason may be the fact that IC706 uses a single synthesiser
chip for both VFO A and B...

[Dx4win] Ignore mode in real time and spots!

2005-02-14 Thread Radivoj KAR
I have the same issue here with PSK31. One solution is to uncheck all modes
except the wanted one in the Preferences?Station?Mode setup and check the
"ignore grey spots" box in Packet1 when wishing to use RTTY/PSK etc..
Then, you will see only the spots of the selected mode on the upper packet
window, and still see anything received in the lower one. Not the most
elegant, but is a solution if you wish to work only one mode...
But, I guess Paul can fix that issue.

Now the amazing thing is, I went back to version 6.03 and it does the same

Subject:[Dx4win] Band decoder

Hi all,

My dreams were answered with the latest version of DX4WIN V6.04 which came
with the ability to "control" a 2nd LPT port under XP and thus use more than
one device which need LPT ports. In my setup, LPT1 is the rotor control, and
LPT2 now controls my band decoder (ON4AOI) via the computer, rather than
from transceiver output (ICOM IC756 ProII). Using the transceiver was never
perfect as the rigs output control voltages were not reliable.

So controlling the band decoder from LPT2, and when also using the cluster
spot window, with no station selected in main window, the band decoder
receives message to change antenna. So I am on, say 20m, tuning around,
having not yet entered a station, the band decoder receives the message that
I am on 20m and selects the appropriate antenna, fine! Then the spot comes
up on say 80m, the band decoder detect this and for a second or two changes
antennas, then reverts back to 20m. If the next spot is 20m, no problem, but
if next spot(s) are different frequencies then click, click, click off it
goes.

Is the any way that the software (controlling LP2, band decoder) can ignore
band selection from spot cluster window, while still accepting band changes
made directly from the transceiver??

OK simple answer is to write something in main window (i.e. station
callsign, single letter all more) but.

Would appreciate peoples comments

I use it with DX4WIN by disabling DX4WIN radio control and controlling

Ed,

the DX4WIN and YAESU MARK-V works not good.

When using LSB / PKT for PSK31, the Center Radio ALT+R works in opposite
way.
(I'am unable to set MARK-V for PKT and USB. Only to SSB/USB and PSK31,
but this works with large filter only, no narrow filter is possible).
In this point (filter / mode combination) the FT-1000MP was much better.

I was asking for correction since 5.01 version, but without success.

My opinion is that the PSK31 with the DX4WIN is not so good
(less sensitive) with comparison to MixW or WinWarbler.

[Dx4win] Band Master Interface

2005-01-15 Thread Radivoj KAR
Hi Paul,

VE3NEA is distributing a very nice suite interfaced with HAMCAP (Band-Master
Spotter, IonoProbe and DX_Atlas). The spotting window of Band-Master is very
user-friendly, showing station position on the frequency line of each band.
However, if DX4WIN is open, Band-Master can't control the Radio.
Is there a chance that you interface DX4WIN with the Band-Master, which
would even more enhance it's performance and popularity.

73 and a Happy New Year,
Radi, F6GNZ

[Dx4win] Spots change mode/freq

2005-01-15 Thread Radivoj KAR
I normally control FT100MP on HF. When going VHF, I disable the radio and
set Preferences to SSB/144MHz default to log VHF contacts, without control
of the VHF rig. However, incoming spots change Mode/Band in the logging
window and I must each time change them manually back to SSB/144.
Does anybody know how to keep spot window open and Mode/Band frozen to
default values?

[Dx4win] BV7: Direct printing on QSL cards

2005-06-03 Thread Radivoj KAR

Hi Gerben,

Thanks for the info. My label position is different and it takes too much
cut-and-try to set it a the right place of the QSL card ! I have given up
and will stick the labels :) !

Subject:RE: [Dx4win] BV7: Direct printing on QSL cards

Radi/Rog,

I'm printing directly from DX4WIN to my qsl cards using a Epson Stylus C84.
My setting for the paper size is still on A4. Details of the 'Print QSL
label' window are:

Label width: 70 mm
Label height: 32 mm
Horz.pitch: 0.00
Vert.pitch: 0.00
Spacing left: 70 mm
Spacing top: 132 mm
Horz.shift: 0.00
Vert.shift: 0.00
Nr across: 1
Nr down: 1
Paper size: A4
Portrait: not selected

Printer properties:
Landscape
Paper size: A4

I'm using qsl cards that have about one quarter of the surface reserved for
printing the qso data (right top corner). Next I put the cards in portrait
position in the printer with the 'printable area' in the left-top corner.

Perhaps you can use the same approach for the settings in BV7.

It works very fine here. Using alternative ink cartridges of just about
12.50 Euro. I bought this Epson printer just because they are cheap and work
fine with alternative cartridges.

Regards,

Gerben - PG5M

Release 16 is coming along nicely:

  http://www.ad1c.us/dx4win/history.htm#16

The big thrust of this release, besides correcting reported errors, is to
resolve VE, VK, UA and UA9 callsigns operating portable outside their
default
country or CQ Zone.  For example, UA9KG/1 is European, not Asiatic Russia;
VE3IY/7 is CQ Zone 3 (BC) not CQ Zone 4 (ON); VK6DXI/2 is CQ Zone 30, not CQ
Zone 29. This has resulted in over 100 additional callsign exceptions. And
I
still have more work to do!

Please report any additions/corrections to me.

Hi All,

I converted this list for those who aren't members of the golist Like you
can see below are some lines bigger then one this can be edited with
standard txt editor to make one line again.
THIS LIST IS NOT 100 % CORRECT SO DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT IT BECAUSE
I Replaced "TILL IN THE 425LIST " with the end of the month
EXAMPLE : I replaced "till MAY" with 31/05/05 because I don't now the exact
date
Copy and paste this list in a file called 425list1 edit if length is not OK
And import this in DX4WIN with DATEFORMAT DD/MM/YY
That's all

Hi all !
Just returned from the Pacific.
I have my WH8/F6EXV and WH6/F6EXV logs as DX4win 6.04 files.
I would like to print all labels per callsign worked, regardless of
callsign used.
In other words, if I have worked the same station from the two
locations, I would like the two labels to be printed in sequence, and
show which callsign I was using (as a QSO note, printable on the labels).
I beleive I can do that with DX4Win, but not sure how !
Who can help please ?? Thanks

[Dx4win] DX4WIN.CTY Release 19 available

2005-05-03 Thread Radivoj KAR
Hi Jim,
"After installing the new DX4WIN file, go to File -> Databases -> QSL
Managers. Then File -> Import QSL manager data. Use the same name as you
saved before. When it asks you if you want to overwrite the existing data,
say Yes. Do the same thing for File -> Databases -> Manager Addresses. Then
you can exit from the QSL database manager."
Sometimes, one gets info over the air or cluster about QSL Manager that may
be different from the one in your list. As in this case one can't be sure
which is the correct one, it would be safe to keep both instead of
overwriting one of them. I frankly do not know how it could be done in
DX4WIN, but like email1 and email2 in the Outlook would be nice to have...
Anyway, thanks for keeping and updating this important database for DX4WIN
community!

[Dx4win] ZK1GNZ and FO/F6GNZ QSLs

2005-05-03 Thread Radivoj KAR

For info to those worked me during Cook/Marquesas DX-ped in December 2004:
After some problems with post office we have finally received QSL cards from
print last week. I have responded to all cards received directly and QSLs
went in mail end of last week. All others will be responded via bureau
within next one-two weeks.

Hi Dimitriy,

I understand. BTW, what format of paper do you chose to print QSL from your
Lasejet? I tried different formats choices available with my Laserjet 4000
and it always becomes very difficult to get BV7 configure text to get into
the right places in the QSL fields!

Hi Radi !
Tnx for answer.
Yes of cause BV7 its good program for management and printing QSL's.
But for tracking awards I need also QSL status in Dx4win!
By the way I'm printing on QSL's with already pre-printed QSO data
fields -
printing very GOOD.(I'm using HP LaserJet 6L)

Hi,

I found it is better to set QSL received flags in DX4WIN, export into
BV7
and do QSL printing from there.
I haven't tried to do what you have been doing, so don't know if the
same
error message would appear after re-importing into DX4WIN. I do all my
QSL
management in BV7, it's a great program for this. The only limitation is
that it is too difficult to set-up printing directly to QSL cards if one
has
them with already pre-printed QSO data fields..

Hello list.

Anybody have experience with BV7?
1. I'm exporting my Dx4win log to ADIF for BV7
2. Printing on QSL's and mark QSO's - QSL received.
3. Export from BV7 to ADIF
4. From Dx4win importing ADIF file with option "Imported QSO sets Conf.

I got message "2259 confirmed QSOs were not found in the log" - why ?

After many differents tries, including rebooting after each, I've made it work
finaly ! Seems System kept traces of old ver 6.04 in the Registry or somewhere
else.

For anybody running ito the same problem, I am giving details of the

Final succesful procedure:
- saved all DXL logs (home, expeditions etc..)and INI file
- deleted all directories/files and shortcuts of v. 6.04
- uninstalled v. 7.07.02 and deleted all remaining folders/files
- deleted two dx4win.chm shortcuts found in c:\docs and settings\RK\recent\
- re-started PC
- installed DX4WIN v. 7.07.02
- started DX4WIN in Demo mode: Help worked OK! Exit.
- copied DXL logs to Save directory
- extracted License Key to DX4WIN root directory
- started DX4WIN: licensed version opened, Help still OK
- opened F6GNZ.DXL log : Help OK
- Preferences: merged old INI file, wrote ini file, save and exit
- Help NOW WORKS FB !

Thanks to Jim, Mel and Paul for suggestions and efforts to help me solve the
issue.

[Dx4win] IC735 remote control

2011-07-15 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Hi,

Has anybody succeeded to make work correctly the IC735 with DX4WIN? My IC735 I
want to use in my portable location permanently times-out, with all
combinations of polling times and retries, using standard 1200bps and 04
address.

Please respond to my Yahoo mail!

[Dx4win] IC735 control w. dx4win: test results

2011-07-16 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Hi,

In the meantime, to check
if my interface (home-made G3VGR/OK2WY design 2-transistor interface) was not
the source of timeout, I have installed the DXLab software Commander v. 8.9.5
and selected IC735, 9600 kbps, 8N1, DTR high, RTS low and guess what:
everything
works superb! I can read and control VFO A/B frequencies, all modes and even
control the split operation, setting VFO A/B frequencies, inverting them etc….I
used polling interval of 350ms (200 was the default, but somebody on Internet
sites suggested not to use less than 350mS). There were NEVER any timeouts.
As a
conclusion, something seems to be conflicting between dx4win radio control
program and IC735.

Jim
Hargrave, W5IFP was trying to help me and was playing with demo version of
DX4WIN
8.05 (he is not currently using your program) , modifying the IC735 original
rig
file. He sent it to me and I replaced a file in my dx4win 8.04. In preferences,
I set DTR high, 9600bps, either 5000 or 350 ms @6
retries.
Now,
there is no more timeout. When I select radio/radio frequency control I can
read
and write frequencies and modes to IC735 without problem, and the changes are
reflected in the logging window.
But,
when I close frequency control window, nothing happens in the logging window
when I switch radio bands and modes. No timeouts, but looks like the program
doesn’t poll radio data automatically. As I have taken out the “transceiver”
jumper , radio doesn’t send this data automatically upon changes. If I activate
transceiver it may work, but then the help file says there is a risk of
collision with dx4win commands.

Would anybody knowledgeable with dx4win configs please check the attached rig
file to see where the lack of polling problem
might be. It seems the control now works at half and if the polling gets
activated, I could use my rig with dx4win. I asked Paul for help, but even if
he finds the issue, he doesn't have iC735 to check the end result.

I haven't subsribed to the reflector list to avoid my mailbox get filled with
many messages I may not be concerned with, but am checking the reflector site
from time-to-time. So, please respond also directly to my yahoo mail account!
Thanks and 73 to all,

[Dx4win] IC735 remote control

2011-07-17 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Hi,

With a precious help of Jim Hargrave , W5IFP, the problem was solved!

1. Original IC735.rig files in dx4win  versions 8.04 and 8.05 are WRONG! Rig
timeouts occur regularly with these versions, whatever polling time and retries
numbers are chosen. Good file was found by Jim in version 8.01 and maybe was
also good in earlier dx4win versions.

2. With the good dx4win ver 8.01 rig file, to
obtain log window's band/mode to reflect changes on the rig selections, a
lot of combinations of polling times/retries were tried. In some of
them, like with default polling time of 5000ms, it was required to open
the radio frequency setup window and click on "read" to make logging
window reflect the changes. The combination that works automatically and FB,
without having to open the frequency setup window, , is 350ms and 3 retries
(set in Radio Preferences). Some other close to these numbers may work also,
but this one works all the time in my case)

3. Speed in ic735.rig  file and preferences was changed from 1200 bps to
9600 bps and JU22 in radio was also set to 9600 bps (left position
contacts). Also, "ci-v transceive" jumper in radio ( the last contacts on the
right) was left ON.

RMX: transceiver band/frequency will not be reflected correctly in logging
window if radio is tuned to a frequency out of HAM band limits, which is OK.

Now, I am happy again.. :)

[Dx4win] Re : IC735 remote control

2011-07-17 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Just received following message from Paul (dx4win father):
Radi,

Found an email that may be of help to you:

The problem was within the radio file 735.rig shipped
with version 8.05 in the
[RC-Read
Mode] command.  In version 7.01, the LEN parameter is 7 while
in
version 8.05, the LEN parameter was 8.  Changing LEN back to 7 solved
the
problem.  The Icom 735 now works fine with version
8.05.
Best

[Dx4win] SteppIR and radio stop responding in Win7

2012-02-20 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Hi,
Installed DX4WIN 8.05 to my new Windows 7/32 bit Home and since have problem of
controlling SteppIR and radio (all was OK on my old Win2000 PC):

SteppIR controller in General Freq. mode, controlled via FTDI USB/RS232 cable
on COM7

As soon as I start DX4WIN and select a spot, SteppIR controller switches to
correct frequency. But from this moment on, I can't control it any more. It
will not swittch to any other spot frequency nor react to my FT1000MP band
select buttons as it did before in Win2000.

Ocassionaly, I have a similar problem with the Radio control : I get a message:
"Cannot open com 4 for keying, device already in use", then " radio interface
was disabled" (radio is controlled with microHAM keyer and USB device routerIs
this a known behaviour on Win7 or what may be the reason??? 8.0.7. I have to
close and restart DX4WIN to get it working again.

Is this a known behaviour in Win7 or what could be causing this???

Please help!

[Dx4win] SteppIR and radio stop responding in Win7

2012-02-24 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
I found the reason, but do not know how to solve it: not only the SteppIR but a
radio via USB Router and a rotor control stop to wrk from time to time: USB
FTDI/RS232 converters stop to communicate with PC and i must plug them out and
in again to make them work again!

[Dx4win] Windows 7

2012-02-24 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Just found why my DX4WIN  often freezes and/or stops controlling SteppIR and
rotor on my new Windows 7 32 bit Home Premium laptop: USB FTDI RS232 devices
(MicroHAM Keyer/USB Router, FTDI USB/RS232 converters for SteppIR and rotor
control just stop  responding for unknown reason. I have to unplug and plug-in
the related USB cable, then it re-starts working, except that in some cases I
need to exit DX4WIN and re-start it again !

Any suggestions how to solve this issue???

Jim and Joe,

Thank you very, very much for the info. I have already set my power saving
options for max performance, but kept hibernate at lid closure and haven't done
anything with USB power settings. Will now fully follow Joe's advice !

Best 73 and thanks again,

[Dx4win] Re : Windows 7 : it works !

2012-02-24 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Hi Jim and Joe,
Have followed your advices and set everything as recommended. After first tests
everything worked OK, including SteppIR and Rotor controls.

But I have still an issue I wish to solve. Since I installed DX4WIN in
C:\DX4WIN folder I must always run it as administrator, and even when doing
this, each time I open DX4WIN I must respond to the User Account Control alert
message "do you want to allow..."

Any clue how to avoid getting this message???

Hi Jim and Joe,

My luck lasted short time. Everything seemed to work FB after application of
all suggested power modifications, but there it is again, some of the USB/RS232
ports/devices get again inhibited by Windows, though in much greater time
intervals then before (sometimes all OK during 1 hour of operation, then
suddenly SteppIR or antenna rotor stop responding :(

[Dx4win] FSK RTTY with DX4WIN/MMTTY and microKeyer

2012-03-19 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
I've decided to try FSK (no AFSK) with microHAM keyer and have configured
router, DX4WIN and associated MMTTY for FSK as indicated in Router
documentation. RX is ok, on TX FSK COM5 port well indicates 45.5N1.5 and my
FT1000MP goes to transmitt in RTTY LSB mode, I can change output power and
MMTTY display shows normal RTTY display at TX, but nobody answers my calls on
their frequency ! I have no test bench nor another RX at hand to check what
might be happening. Has anybody an idea what's going on???

[Dx4win] USB interfaces stop working

2012-06-10 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Hi,
Some of messages in microHAM forum indicate loss of com between router and
DX4WIN/TRX.
As Joe Subich W4TV, already said several times in microHAM forum, all
hibernate, sleep and USB energy savings should be disabled in Windows to avoid
this.

But, there is another reason: the RF ! When I switch ON my Linear Amplifier
and/or turn the beam towards my shack, there it comes: not only the router USB,
but also the FTDI serial converters driving the SteppIR controller and the ERC
antenna rotator via DX4WIN stop working. The ferrite RF suppressors on the
related cables do not help. So, when you see interfaces stop working, check if
the QRO was not the reason, HI!

BTW: Windows automatic update has updated my FTDI USB/RS232 drivers with
version 2.8.24.0, dated 10.4.2012. But the Router 8.1.2 still kept the original
FTDI driver v. 2.6.0.0. which still works FB.

[Dx4win] "Cannot focus a disabled or invisible window"

2012-10-20 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Hi,
On mt Win7/32bit laptop I had several times following error:
After stopping radio and switching it off, clicked Exit to close DX4WIN. But
instead of exiting, only the log window closed, all others remained. Clicking
on Fil-Exit or ant other command on DX4WIN command line, results in Error
message: "An exception occured. Cannot focus a disabled or invisible
window"...All other windows remain active, even the cluster continue working
and I can send commands and receive messages, but the main command line is like
dead!!! Task manager shows program as running, and says it is waiting a command
from me. Have to close it by "force", HI!
Any reason for thios???

[Dx4win] Spots and spotter callsigns in BandMap

2013-04-15 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Hi,
Here is my proposal for one of the next releases of DX4WIN:

A right mouse-click on the spot shown in the BandMap should display the
originator's call sign and  the time expired since he had generated the spot
(spots may have been already gone out of the visible part of the main spot
window).

This would be very useful to see the propagation circuit openings for higher
bands (50, 144 MHz...) in order to beam the antenna in right direction when
trying to call CQ or listen for others in these paths...

Re: [Dx4win] Spots and spotter callsigns in BandMap

2013-04-16 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Hi Paul,
Yes I know this and have had set both to 20 minutes, but it will still be
better to see in the BandMap the spot initiator and time (if less than what was
set in preferences). If it is too much work for time info, at least the spot
initiators callsign would be highly appreciated in the BandMap (with right
click to avoid too much info display in this window). The issue is that the
main spot window reflects spots of all bands and is filled in very fast so that
individual band spots disappear (go above and must be searched for to see the
initiator). Seeing several spots for example in 50 MHz window and knowing where
they have been heard, gives immediately the idea what paths are opened..

[Dx4win] MicroKeyer2, DX4WIN, HDSDR and Omni-Rig

2013-06-22 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
I have
updated my shack with an SDR which I want to use for reception only  and keep
my existing MK2, FT1000MP+ IC706 (for
50 MHz) for transmit only.
I can control
SDR with HDSDR program and synchronise FT1000MP/IC706 frequencies/modes via the
Omni-Rig program interfaced with HDSDR. This combination works perfectly, but
now my DX4WIN becomes useless as it can’t read nor control the radio, saying
“ie_Open,
device already open” and
“Could not
open COM4 for keying, ie_Open, device already open” when I try to Start the
Radio.
So, I can’t
log the QSOs with related radio data (mode, freq’s) nor use spot clicks to set
up the TX/RX frequencies,  nor  control my antenna rotator.
Is there
any way to make the above combination work together???
Best 73,

Radi F6GNZ

Thanks Joe ! I have created an additional port for COM2 and set Omni-rig to
this port with 1200 ms polling time (DX4WIN polls each 500ms). All works fine
except when I select both Sync from Omni-Rig and Sync to Omni-rig to be able to
set TX to RX-ed frequency but also to set RX frequency by clicking on the
DX4WIN spots. In this case my IC706 starts to "walk" frequencies, like it had
gone to the scanning modeSo, must chose only one way sync...

Re: [Dx4win] [microHAM] MicroKeyer2, DX4WIN, HDSDR and Omni-Rig

2013-06-24 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Hi Larry,
In fact, I have never checked the real polling rate, but in preferences I have
set it to 500ms and supposed it polls the radio at that rate. Now, when you
asked, I counted number of polls of my FT1000MP on its CAT blinking indicator
and it blinked 30 times in 32 seconds, i.e. 1 per second...
Then I changed to 100ms and saved,  it started blinking rapidly several times
then resumed exactly as before, at 1 per second. I changed to 5000: it started
blinking rapidly then resumed again at 1 per second...
When I Stop the Radio in DX4WIN, CAT stops blinking (off). But when I exit
DX4WIN, CAT lights permanently for about 10 secs, goes off in a fraction of
second and goes ON for another 10 secs, because the microHAM Router polls it
very fast and follows the frequency changes almost immediately.
So, I think there is an interaction between DX4WIN and Router, making the
polling time fixed to 1 seconds whatever is saved in Preferences !

Maybe Joe will tell us how it exactly works.

Re: [Dx4win] [microHAM] MicroKeyer2, DX4WIN, HDSDR and Omni-Rig

2013-06-24 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ

Hi Joe,
I have created
an additional port for CAT 2 and set Omni-rig to this port with 1200 ms polling
time (DX4WIN polls each 500ms). All works fine except when I select both Sync
from Omni-Rig and Sync to Omni-rig to be able to set TX to RX-ed frequency but
also to set RX frequency by clicking on the DX4WIN spots. In this case my IC706
starts to "walk" frequencies, like it had gone to the scanning modeSo,
must chose only one way sync...

But,  I am still trying to make my setup
work together:
1.   To listen with HDSDR and automatically
synchronize frequency of the related TX (FT1000MP/MK2 or IC706/MK1, depending on
which one is switched ON and selected by the Router tabs.  This works OK with
HDSDR CAT to Radio via
Omni-Rig
2.   To be able to use DX4WIN for real time
logging w. frequency/mode  and to be able
to click on the DX4WIN spot and set HDSDR RX frequency to this spot (and TX
freq also via the HDSDT-OmniRig sync).  This second feature did not work when I
tried to check both HDSDR sync
mode options (sync to and from Omni-Rig) as it created instability.

NOW: I had an idea to make at least  the spotting click work via the CAT control
from DX4WIN to HDSDR: Radio 1 preferences  of DX4WIN were  set to Kenwood
(protocol supported by HDSDR) on CAT COM 11 (created by Router) and the HDSDR
option was configured to control HDSDR  on the same CAT port.

BUT: as soon I Start the Radio in
DX4WIN, I get the message that the “port is already open” and “radio is
disabled”.    WHY?? What am I missing??

The corresponding Router configs for splitter functions are:
FT1000/MK2/DX4WIN:  CAT1 = COM4,
CAT2:=COM2, PTT:=COM4
IC706/MK1/DX4WIN :  CAT1= COM8,
CAT2= COM3, PTT:=COM4

[Dx4win] DX4WIN, SDR rx and existing rigs

2013-10-28 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ

Because of
their performance and reducing prices, SDR receivers are becoming very popular.
It is very
attractive to use SDR for reception and the existing Rigs/PA’s for
transmission.
To make it
all work together, there should be a possibility to synchronize
bands/frequencies
and modes between SDR RX and the existing TX.

Alex,
VE3NEA has developed  a free software,
the OmniRig (www.dxatlas.com/omnirig/‎),
which permits synchronization of almost all existing rigs with the SDR RX via
the logging/control program; a list of programs already supporting OmniRig is
also on this site.

It would be
great if Paul would kindly add the OmniRig support to DX4WIN and include DX4WIN
to this list.

In
addition, software like DXLab Suite (CI-V Commander) can already provide
support for SDR consoles via its the "Secondary CAT Serial Port".  Other
loggers can do the same - DX4Win
already has the technology in place with its "SteppIR" support - if
the developer of the logging software wishes to do so.

I have just
completed the assembly of the Genesis G11 SDR. It also has transmit
possibility, but only 10-watts, so I’d prefer to keep the existing combination
of DX4WIN/FT1000MP/Alpha77/microKeyerII w. SteppIR control for TX and  to use
the G11/GSDR console for RX. The
Ft1000MP BCD band data gives me  in addition the  possibility for the
remote antenna switching via the BCD/decimal converter.

I
think this would be the great upgrade to the fine DX4WIN program and I am sure
users would be ready to pay for it!

[Dx4win] Polling rate

2013-11-04 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
I have found a way to interface/synchronize  my SDR Console (for RX) and
FT1000MP controlled by DX4WIN via microham Keyer/Router (for TX) . For this I
am using virtual port pair creator VSPManager  from K5FR and RigSync program
from W2RF.
The problem I am experiencing now is that it takes some delay between selecting
frequency/mode on the SDR and having it refelected on the FT1000MP. To improve
the situation I wish to reduce polling rates. Currrently in DX4WIN polling
time is 500ms.

What could be a minimum polling rate that would not impair the DX4WIN/FT1000MP
operation??
Also, FT1000MP CAT baud rate is set to 4800. How high could be increased to?

Re: [Dx4win] OmniRig

2013-12-15 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Hi,
I have had a success to synchronize mu SDR RX and Icom IC706 using Omnirig and
RigSync and having DX4WIN to control IC706 via MicroHAM Router (IC706/DX4WIN on
CAT1 and Omnirig/IC706 on CAT2). Unfortunately, there was no way to have DX4WIN
control the SDR RX, which would make this setup perfect.

Trying to do same with FT1000MP instead of IC706: many sync delays, MP timeouts
due to poliing conflicts which couldn't be handled by the "old" binary CAT
protocol of the MP.

Everything would have been better if DX4WIN had integrated OmniRig support !

[Dx4win] DX4WIN Updater not responding etc..

2013-12-15 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Hi,

Today I tried to run a new Updater 6.07 (that had upgraded itself from previous
version).
It opens and when I click on Update sometimes nothing happens for a while, and
then it shows "not responding". I close and start again, it updates Custom
Awards, then again "not responding" . Close, start again, it updates severan
next items, and again spops responding..Then an error window shows up "Unable
to check http://dx4win.ad1c.us/master/DX4WIN.MAS1.
I click OK, "not reponding". Start again, it shows 5 updated items then
freezes..Start again, updates next item and again "not responding", and so
on...Then again: "Download of UPDATE\DX4WIN.MAS2 failed, status=500 Can't
connect to dx4win.ad1c.us:80 (timeout) "

Updates items one-by-one and stops responding.

Also, during update of Custom Awards, Country files.. the horizontal update
time line shows GREEN squares, then next portion is  YELLOW and after some time
the rest is RED. What does it mean???

I had several mails addressed to Jim returned wit following message:

Sorry, we were unable to deliver your message to the following address.

:
Mail server for "alum.mit.edu" unreachable for too long

Re: [Dx4win] Dupes

2014-01-09 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
Cesare,
I think it won't be good to automatically remove dupes from the log! Better
have them marked by a red colour and let user decide afterwards..

Re: [Dx4win] dx4win log QSL PRINING

2014-01-16 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ
I recommend using BV7 QSL print manager. It is VERY flexible and has large
choice of label configurations. Just export DX4WIN log in ADIF and import into
BV7.

It is free and available from: http://www.df3cb.com/bv/

Re: [Dx4win] spots refreshing

2014-01-27 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ

Lorenzo,

I never used DXFUN and do not know how to do it. But
even if I new, I thaink it's spome issue they know. The site might be on
a maintenance or they disconnect their cluster receiving node so are
sending all thge time old stored spots (you cal see the time expitred
from the spots and check when they have been logged since you try to
connect. My regullar cluster F5MZN disconnected their spot function
during the French contest to avoid people using spots during contest,,..
So, either wait these are re-established on DXFUN, or chose another cluster
close to your area.
