Partitioning my Lombard OS9.2.2

2006-02-17 Thread Kristina Rost
I just got my Lombard back from Wegener's...took them 6 weeks to put a 30g
HD and transfer my data, which they failed to mention was a 35.00 in
addition to the 50 bucks to look at it.

I didn't realize that transferring data from a 6g partitioned HD takes
several hours of tech time. gee

Anyway I have a new HD and apparently a new System...but no partitions. I
like the partitions because I could run DiskWarrior from another partition.
The only thing my $300 to nice on list G-list friend did for my
Lombard last summer.

also...or still...

PalmProblem

2006-01-25 Thread Kristina Rost
I was able to sync my PalmVx to my Lombard OS9.2 but I can't get it to sync
on the G3 beige OS9.2.

It says Hot Sync manager is not installed when I can clearly see it in the
folder.

Palm's web page doesn't work for me under OE 5.1.7 nor the freshly installed
Netscape 7.02.

In OE the web hotspots move in Netscape only the menu shows up.

My Lombard is at Wegener's for the 3rd week...I miss it and all its files.

any ideas?

Thanks for getting back to me on this...
open the HotSync Manager, turn off the Sync, reset the connection drop

do you mean the disable/enable?

I did disable the HotSync and did a restart and then enabled HotSync but it
still refuses to connect.

what am I doing wrong?

Sounds like a variation of a common problem...
open the HotSync Manager, turn off the Sync, reset the connection drop
down, and then turn syncing back on

if that doesn't work reboot after refreshing the connection... it
should turn syncing back on by itself. If you have several connection
types in the drop down, try changing the type.

Beginning with Power Macintosh computers with PCI slots, Power

Open Firmware for controlling hardware. Open Firmware is a cross-
platform firmware standard for controlling hardware and is used by
 all PCI-based Mac OS computers.

;s'cuse me? Did I miss something? My Lombard can't do open firmware? I
remember when I first got this machine, some list friend directed me to open
to that grey screen and type reset all and it worked.

I was able to reset whatever it needed and it read the install disk so I
could reformat the HD. I had bought the PB off ebay...many dollars ago.
Long story/short story... I replaced the HD, the processor added max RAM and
a new CDR drive...

So I am not sure I am using the right cmd+opt+O+F sequence for the Lombard.

PCI slot? Isn't that where my Orinoco Gold card goes? and my PCIMA card?

 Kristina,

Try booting into Open Firmware and typing reset-all, I believe. I'm
not completely sure, at this rate, but the info is on Apple's site, I
think. Also, if you have the original CD that came with the 'Book, you
can try booting from that. Email me offlist if you don't have it, and
I'll see what I can dig up.

 Hope this helps,

Re: Lombard won't boot

2006-01-02 Thread Kristina

Open Firmware is what controls the boot up of the computer. It is
there regardless of what OS you are booting into be it X, 9, Linux,
 etc.

Did I do the right sequence? Cmd + Opt +O+F?

Why didn't I get the grey screen.

And if it is the L2 cache I will have to send it somewhere.

 What did you get?

regular startup sequence

If the iPod was previously formatted for the Mac, it needs to have
the software reinstalled for Windows before it'll work attached to a

Hmmm maybe we did that unknowingly. We reinstalled the itunes programs, [we
trusted our13yo nintendo techie] and it did the trick...don't know why but
it did... another case of wiggle the wires, reinstall, reboot and hold your
mouth just right .

BTW lately my Lombard keyboard has been...uh...like uh...not working. At
some point in my work the keys fail to respond. I have to use the mouse.
Shut down for a while, wiggle the wires reinstall, reboot and hold your
mouth just right , have some spaghetti and there you go its working again.

But really deep down I just know the keyboard is failing...right?

2 gen iPod failure

2005-12-25 Thread Kristina
Christmas greetings...sorry to bother you guys...

problem with Christmas present...

My daughter loaded all her CDs on her DELL Inspiron 1150 using the 2 port
PCcard FW adapter
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/PCMCIA2P/
I had bought for my Lombard. Sorry for talking about a youknowwhat
machine...since it does not have a FireWire port either.

She had loaded iTunes from the program disk from her sisters mini...

isn't this PCcard a PC compatible card...it goes either platform?

we can't get it to download from the computer to the iPod...

from the OWC site they say

The only thing you will need to do is set your iPod to Disk mode manually
since no PCMCIA / PC-Card is able to bus power a device (or recharge your
 iPod, for that matter).

To do this, you need to reset your iPod by pressing the top and bottom (menu
play) buttons above and below the scroll wheel. When you see the Apple logo,
press and hold the fast forward - fast rewind buttons. You'll feel your iPod's
hard drive spinning, it is now powering itself from the internal battery. Hook
the iPod up to your PC-Card FireWire card and you should be ready to go!

This holding the fast forward - fast rewind buttons...makes the screen say
OK to disconnect...and nothing.

And it erased the previous library...

This 2gen iPod..is there a manual anywhere.

Kristina
with Christmas wishes
...wish this iPod would work.

Sometimes when my Lombard overheats, it gets like that. I've taken to
propping it up on a pencil on the desktop to help keep it cooler (pencil

Yes I had thought of overheating as a probable cause, but I keep mine
propped up on the edge of a book. I did have a fan blowing on it...a small
fan we use in the camper it clamps onto things...mine I have clamped on a
lamp near by. But now that we have over 12 inches of snow on the ground...I
forgo the breeze.

heh heh heh I liked this one! The neighbor boy is a bagger I will have to
share this with him next time he bags my groceries...and takes them to my

2 gen iPod connection to load tunes

2005-12-03 Thread Kristina
sorry to have sent the other post...I meant to push delete instead I sent
it.

I am so not getting this...

neither the DELL Inspiron 1150 and the Lomabard have a connection port to
which this 4-6pin firewire cable will connect.

This was discussed in the clay animation conversation...I get that...

I understand that neither of these computers are firewire
compatible...they only have USB and some other cable type port...what kind
I don 't know but are the type that require screwing in on either
side...which isn't what you are offering. I will have to study the net for
descriptions that match the ports on the back of these and name them one by
one.

Basically I just want to load new tunes on the 2gen iPod .

huge sigh

I haven't been following this topic very well, but I myself make animations
and I use OS 9 all the time. They are not clay animations (made with LEGO
actually) but its all the same. These are a few programs for the classic OS

I wanted to tellyou (( all )) I have saved every post on this subject and I
plan to look for the software and gizmos you suggest...

As soon as I get passed the shock and on to the excitement of a new

clay animation software

2005-11-18 Thread Kristina
conversation from the art teachers list...

You can do the claymation very simply with Sony digital video cams and
imovie ( standard editing program with macintosh computers) in fact you
can do it with still digital camera imovie
Is there any way to use a VHS video camera?...I have a mac and could
probably get imovie...I do have a digital camera...but I don't know how to
get the video [tape] into the computer... any help?

There is software to convert analog to digital- made by Dazzle
software Please check and make sure this is for MAC,
as I've only seen it with PC...

I found it in Google...looks only PC ...what is available for macs?...

I did animation, clay , paper, somekind of all day timed exposure in a
summer workshop at MU -OH in 1980...we used 8mm...HA!

But in my new art class, the teens want to do some cartoons. I only have a
VHS video camera and a digital still camera...but art budgets are low to
none existant.

If I just had a list of what I needed , maybe the guys on the swap list
might have what I need. My macs are G3 /6100 and running 9x.

Thanks
Kristina

Also while I am asking...is there a way to get audio from a VHS into the mac
to burn as a CD?

Usually, to import an analog signal into a Mac, you need what is called a
DV-Bridge. This device takes an analog signal like the ones you get from the
output of a VCR or a non-DV video camera and transforms it into a digital
video stream. All the DV bridges I've seen so far have a FireWire output that
 you plug into a Mac.

does my Lombard have firewire capabilities?

Since you mention a 6100, I don't know what you could use. The 6100 is pretty
limited in the expandability section, since it has only a PDS slot. Not sure
if there was any video card that would have an analog input.

ratz

Dazzle was a company making a DV bridge.

...I'm pretty sure the software you're talking about was probably meant to be
used with their DV bridge somehow, which you don't really need on a Macintosh
 running iMovie.

does iMovie run in OS9x?

...my main problem now is the previous palm V owner has a password...and
this is preventing my hotsync operation to go thru.

I believe I can reset the palm's uh hard drive...wiping it clean by holding

Not that I really want all that he had...but I do want Maxilaris note 2.0

Which brings me to... what are great Palm software options...and what to
avoid...i don't want to clutter up my nicely working Lombard witha bunch of
unnecessary software.

Lomabard issues...Reavok/Kristina

2005-10-21 Thread Kristina
The end of the saga...

Reavok...your extra CDdrive is in the mail.

Wegener who now has my Lombard says your drive runs great...Wegener says my
Lombard issues [1] were problems due to bad RAM and a bad PRAM battery which
I had them replace with the max RAM totalling about 170...more in this PB.

So all the issues have been resolved by Wegener...i hope

I just wish I had sent it to them when I got the machine from ebay a year
ago...

live and learn...the hard way

is there any other way?

Kristina

[1]
In August I sent my Lombard to a tech I met on the G-books list. He apparently
spent much time and effort and my 250.00. Unfortunately the problem still
exists. It worked fine he says for him...but from the time I got it back it
would still lock up or not start...and it has been getting worse. I have kids
who must do school work online and its been heartbreaking to loose imputing
when time is an issue. The tech added gobs of shareware and do dads...I just
want it to work plain and simple.

Last week the daughter took the laptop to another location to work on school
work...at the new location it wouldn't start up...She brought it home where it
started fine, did a bit of work and then we shut it down for 4 days, while we
camped. Today it won't boot past Chime. I am running OS 9.2.2 and it is the
 366 MHz model.

I have tried the reset button on the back of the pb...force quits, and CD s.
Once I actually did get all the way thru the nice new pictures the tech put
on it...to the window that says Disk Aid will repair ... when it froze
again... and I have opened up the machine and tucked things...
remembering some suggest seating motherboards and daughterboards.

I don't have the right tech skills or language to talk specifically but I
have been on a mac for 16 years. I very upset with this machine and the tech
who has told me that's it too bad...as he thinks I am doing things to the pb.
I am not. I work everyday from my G3 beige, same system, same probrams, same
 way, no problem.

since I posted the above letter to the g-books list I have received many
 ideas to try...even

Resetting the nvram can clear up all sorts of problems.

I did get to the screen and typed the prompts as you said...and I remember
doing this, also, when I first got the Lombard, $350 off ebay,.

 reset-all (and enter)
 and it'll restart (hopefully!)

but no ...restart produced only a black screen...

Last spring I replaced the HD from pb fix it @ 80sh or so
this summer gobs of software ironing from that some kinda tech @ 300sh

 now the cpu?

maybe its has been the cpu all the time

I noticed that wegener sells a Lombard for 399. just like mine...less than
half of what I have in this one now

choke

also the battery was at about 3/4 power-full...and should think about
replacing it...

 If so, what failed?

Well I think nothing actually...

And, did you request that he add gobs of shareware and do dads

not exactly, I actually think he thought he was doing me a favor with
goodies

(I ask that, because that may be part of your problem, esp. running OS 9.2.x).

We can probably resolve your issues at no cost

just in my budget

and if you are local, I'll be happy to see what's up.

wish you were

Have you tried a clean install of OS 9.1 (your Lombard is not equipped to
run 9.2.x and I opine that you are ~probably~ better off to go back to 9.1).

originally this machine came to me from ebay...with OS X on it. All my
graphic design software is older so I am happy to stay in 9x.

I did a disk wipe and clean install then...replaced the HD and still
not a viable machine. The tech friend thought it was software related and
reworked things and saved my data.

Only now I can't just boot it up work on it and have a happy mac face...

Now it doesn't open at all...tho the pb did open all the way to my usual
desktop this afternoon all 3 partitions showing and my files

then...i went to the partition which had DiskWarrior and did a restart and
the dumb thing wont open again. Can't tell you why that particular force
start worked and the restart didn't , nor any of the subsequent force starts
only bring a chime and grey screen...

Re: Lombard issues

2005-10-10 Thread Kristina

It sounds like you're thinking it could be the OS; I think it may be a faulty
processor card, and/or maybe an overheating one. Would you happen to have /
access to an extra Lombard processor?

You could try disabling the L2 cache with some third party software
like CPU director. Or, try running the unit with a fan blowing on
 the CPU heatsink directly.

I do have a fan hooked to the lamp blowing under the bottom of the Lombard
which is perched on a book to raise it up...

is that what you meant?

art teacher mac tools

2005-09-21 Thread Kristina

Dear Liste friends,

I will be taking a part-time position as an art teacher at a local
private school, after Christmas.

I have found an art ed yahoo group and I need mac advice and
translations...like tech words that we rightbrainers don't have...

One teacher, a macuser too, explains how she uses her pb, powerpoint
for notes and the internet as visual support, especially when
discussing art history, works and artists.

Kristina,

Well, I'm going to give this a shot. Tech part isn't my thing
either. I have a cable that I was told about from the nice man at
apple (phone call). He told me which one to buy and I can't for the
life of me find out where my order form is. I do know that it has a
round port which attaches to the laptop as the OUT and then the
other end goes into the TV on the video port. As for the technical
name, call apple and explain this to them. That is how I got my
information. It is truly a wonderful thing to have. All my teachers
are jealous because I use it all the time. I even prepare my
lessons on power point or just word and then can bring them up on to
the screen. It helps with them taking notes etc. I also was very
fortunate to have a big TV with a big screen. This helps too. Let
me know what you find out. I'm anxious to know what the name of the
cable is called. If I get anymore info I'll pass it along. Keep in
touch.

Kristina,

Yes! I use a laptop and my TV in my classroom to show tons of different
things to my students. Usually, that is the way I begin my lessons. I
use websites of all different kinds such as Artcyclopedia, Incredible
Art Department, museum sites etc. I have a powerbook G4 and I have a
cable that attaches to my laptop and then feeds into the video part of
my TV. I tell my computer to Detect Displays and then adjust my TV
to an auxiliary setting. I hope this is sort of clear. Sounds
complicated but it really isn't once you have all the necessary
components. I highly recommend the laptop and monitor capabilities.
It is extremely beneficial to the students and to my lessons.

The TV output on a Mac PowerBook is a round multi-pin connector for
S-video. If your TV has an S-video input, you can get an S-video to
S-video cable and you are in business. If your TV only has separate
video and sound input connectors, you need a cable with a converter.

off topic: gaming question

2005-09-21 Thread Kristina

I am posting this as a question for my son...

he purchased a game off ebay from some gameguy in Thailand...he uses
it on a Dell, maybe you all know of somewhere I can more
appropriately ask than a mac list...They are orignal discs and not
that I can tell pirated...they have the original logos and so on.

my son sends this post to the seller

The Game you sent me Installed on my Dell Latitude D510 . But when I
went to run the game it said
Please Insert the original juiced CD/DVD Disk and I tried all the
other disks and it would say the same thing.
I don't know wether it the Software of the computer.

a week later the gameguy replies:

you must remove the clone cd software

many of game cd will protect against cloning program so, it will tell you
this

remove it and enjoy the game

does anyone know what to do?

  Kristina
He means you have a CD emulation program running. ie something like mDaemon
or Alcohol 120%, or several others. If you or your son don't know anything
about these you most likely don't so there is a problem with the game, ie
it's a copy. it often happens with game copies that it will install fine but
it will not run. If you let me know the exact game name I can find a
replacement exe for it that will allow you to run it without the CD.

bummer
I hate being illegal! It does say it is illegal if sold outside
Thailand...i thought ebay didn't deal in this sort of thing? Tho i
noticed when I went back to question this guy about this he had been
removed as a seller. Is this why?

The game is Juiced...something about fast cars...where are the noble
men of our culture getting their training??? angst!

The Dell in question is my husband's work laptop only home in the
evenings...not here now...

His sister got a cheap Dell inspiron 1150 for graduation...the
processor is already bad we think...it runs much slower than it used
to...my other daughter and I are mac stable!

if you send me the file can i forward it to one of those computers?

Lombard as projector

2005-08-23 Thread Kristina
Today I was offered the position of art teacher here at our wee little
Christian High School. 28 fresh man, 28 soph, 18 jrs and 16 seniors...

Art 1 Art 2 are mandatory and jr sr art is an elective.

I actually don't start till second semester, so I have time to write my
program. They will let me do whatever I want, which is much and asked if I
could use my graphic design experience 20+ years professional freelance.

I have some ideas, one would be to bring in all my 6100 pwpcs and set up a
pagemaker/ quark photoshop desktop publishing thing...

The other idea would be to do some webdesign as a swap list member is
selling me his dreamweaver 4 ...

The school has only peecees of course, and I don't have any programs/fonts
to support these, I can make publisher work...but its stupid, last I worked
with it.

Here's my question:
How can I use my Lombard OS 9.2 as a projector of photos, or interent sites
of art work for whole class viewing?

If you can tell me what I will need please speak very slowly...

If you have this equipment going to the macgarage sale let me know.

Thanks

I think with the duplicate names, on the multiple CD's...you might to have
to add a letter at the end of each file...A,B...etc before you combine
them, whether you can do this with a whoosh of a computer command or the ole
manual input is a problem for a greater computer mind than mine.

Re: Fax/DSL OS9.2

2005-08-17 Thread Kristina
Jim,
NOTE: Make sure your modem is a fax modem.

My external modem is the same modem I used to fax from and I still have the
software/address book installed...

How to I reconnect the external modem around the DSL?
My DSL is a Linksys Broadband Router bridged to a Sprint modem thru
ethernet.

If I am thinking, and i do have my moments, do I just plug in the external
modem and not worry about the Open Remote Access box?

Toast 3.5.7. I acquired the YamahaCRW4416SX used just the burner, a disc
and some cables. I have had to figure it all out on my own. I can make CDs
for my self and my photo scrapbooking purposes but not for friends who of
course are all windows. I can make audio CDs...if I need to which I haven't
really had to.

What format did you use for the disk?

Hmmm, Mac Files and Folders...this is it, isn't it...under the format menu
I have these options, which one would I use to make a Kodak Kiosk ready
disc.

Mac Volume
Mac Files and Folders
ISO 9660

You may run into file name restrictions, Toast 3.5.7 I think will tell you
if some need renamed (shorter max filename, plus limits on non-standard

Laserwriter IINTX doesn't appear

2005-08-13 Thread Kristina
While I wait for another to answer, I thought I might ask the whole list
this question...

Why doesn't my Laserwriter IINTX show up as a printer in the chooser?

It is connected by appletalk, and is terminated. Appletalk is set to printer
port and I am running OS9.2.2.

I must admit the last time i used it much, I was running OS 8, it started
with some small OS in 1989...and worked long and hard for one person it only
has 48,423 copies. Something went wrong and I temp used an inkjet...then I
found a laser tech, albeit an HP kinda guy and the took my $100.00 and
pronounced it fixed.

so connecting it with the above cabling I expect it to...well...work!

It does not make a desktop printer to spool to, even tho my application
recognizes Laserwriter...

web design ??? for off list?

2005-08-09 Thread Kristina
I thought there might be a few web designers on this list who might be able
to point me in the right direction.

My dd, 19 soon to be 20 has been working at a local scrapbook shop who has
an internet store. They turned her loose to run this e-store and with the
team of designers she has been managing the store and site for about 10
months, while she did a distance learning course in para-legal. She
graduates next week and is seeking a good lawyer and firm to make better
money so she can take more classes, buy more guitars etc ...ah hem.

Any way she says she really liked the web design thing and wants to pursue
this. We live near Chicago on the Indiana side.

My question is: what should we look for in a web training program, one that
does not require a full college degree, just the core knowledge.

If any one can recommend a course, or school i would like to look at them
with her.

please contact me off list as this isn't really a powerbook issue, and I
apologize.

For the card to be recognized in OS 9, you need to make sure you find an
older card. For OS X, you will need additional driver so make sure you check
the compatibility list of the driver before buying a card.

Yes that's right, it had a square/rectangular/boxy end...not tapered...which
I could see in the pictures the different manufacturers displayed.

Older is better...and then a direct website to the right card is also very

Re: Lombard snags

2005-06-16 Thread Kristina
 RESTART
It looks like it has a serious hardware problem, maybe the hard disk or the
memory. Maybe the processor daughtercard or a memory chip has become loose?

Hmmm, it has a new hard disk...installed by my ownself with much online
handholding with the G-list demigods.

I haven't really been moving it around, tho it is a portable...

I hope its not hard ware trouble, I'd rather get a new CD/DVD RW, and make
it burn CD's. Time will tell, especially when it sleeps a long time.

It is currently behaving, so maybe the last RESTART was the winner?
Thanks,

Kristina

Ok, when I go to wake it up by pressing on a key it goes to screenmode but
the cursor is stuck.

If I push the on/off button it goes to the choices of shut down/restart
etc and I choose cancel, and its back to normal screen mode and the cursors
free. I can work around this but I wish it would work properly.

later , I go to the Lowes site to look at shopvacs for Father's day
and it locks up.

It didn't use to do this...until the upgrade...well yes it was hard to wake
up and it did lock up now and then but not every session.

Re: Lombard snags [signed]

Upgrade?
Upgrade to what?

I really wanted it to just work at the OS 9.2. level as my kajillion apps of
graphics software match that system...and I can do all I want at that
level...i even still use a pencil to draw.

but I am so glad you sent the service manual site...i don't have one as I
bought this Lomby on ebay and have been tinkering it ever since. I did
replace the hard drive already. So I am not sure what there is to
upgrade...speed? processor? System?

Kristina

As a former Lombard owner I can empathize. It had a serious flaw on wake up
and was known as the sleep of death. It would be worth it to send it to
Daystar - http://daystartechnology.com/ and upgrade. It solves your dvd
problem and gives you the altivec engine. Then you'll never have these
problems. (I was never able to get Panther on my Lombard -got a kernel
 panic) I plan on upgrading.

There is also a person named Chuck Wright on e.Bay who specializes in
Lombards and has scads of parts. I bought a logic board from him and was
very satisfied with his handling of the sale.

He also turned me on to a website that has the service manual for the
 Lombard (it's in pdf format)

 http://www.whoopis.com/computer_repair/PowerBook_G3_Series_Bronze_kbd.pdf

Happy sailing, (I really like the old Lomby)

BTW, I also remember it being picky about memory ups.

Lombard DSL snags

2005-06-15 Thread Kristina
I recently did an upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2.2 on that dumb Lombard, which is
constantly locking up...Disk Warrior rebuilds but it will still lock up

TheCD drive clicks when it locks.

But now that I have the new router+modem configuration none of the internet
programs are working. Outlook Express doesn't work at all...says domain
server is not responding, tho it does on the faithful, but heavy G3 DT.

any ideas?
Thanks

Re: DSL and storms

2005-06-14 Thread Kristina

For what it's worth, I used to have a Linksys router and, after a
thunderstorm, I found that it ...belly up like this. I don't have to tell you
that I never bought a Linksys device again...

I too live very rurally in NW Indiana, and built this house at the edge
of a field where the land mostly huge acreage of soybeans or corn, except
for this subdivision which is a sand hill left by theglaciers which followed
THE FLOOD. The soil is composed of sand and oak leaves and has a water
table which is only about 2 feet down. I think it is an electrical
conductor of the most natural kind, its a wonder the moles don't all have
curly hair!

I blew 3 modems for our dial up service the first summer we moved in until
I found THE surge protector for the phone.

Now with the totally worthless linksys router, which like I mentioned is
being recalled and was mistakenly marketed for the US...I have explored
$everal kind$ of fre$h $urge protector$ andhave had to try again 5 times
as they keep $ending the$ame equipment at $print$ ex$pen$e!!!

I have also contacted the Sprint field office to ask them to find check
the grounding of the phone line and use ...something better.

Isn't it insanity to keep trying something that doesn't work?

I now await their new 2.0 versionof equipment. If I had a choice in DSL
service I would take it. Cable TV isn't even offered. I was thrilled to get
DSL, as homeschoolers we use technology for online classes, and library
like resources.

I think the very definition of insanity is repeating the same action
 and expecting a different result.

Or maybe that's marketing... I have a hard time telling the two apart.

The fact that a surge is hitting you so often, either thru your phone
line or thru your power line is BAD. VERY BAD. It means your home
is improperly grounded. This is a fire hazard. DO NOT ignore it.
 Fix it.

That's what I thought too...it must be the lines...

missing Laserwriter II NTX

2005-05-23 Thread Kristina Rost

I still have my original laserwriter II NTX, just repaired.

I'm on a OS9/G3 beige and a OS9.1 Lombard, or a Dell.

Thanks to Ken here on this list who sent a site/picture, a month ago or
more, correcting me that the II NTX connects as a Serial device.

It is now connected to the OS9 G3 Beige at the serial port,
then via SCSI is an Agfa Scanner,
then with the SCSI I to SCSI II appropriate adapter a Yamaha CD.

Here's the problem
In chooser, AppleTalk on, Laserwriter 8, the NTX does not show up to choose.

What's wrong? I tried fishing around apple's download site, but I just can't
figure it out.

Thanks

 Thanks
 Kristina

In your System Folder, in the Extensions Folder, there should be a
Printer Descriptions Folder. Check to see if there is a LaserWriter
II NTX listed in that folder.

 Ken

Yes sir it is there...and other Laserwritere II NTX cousins.

Re: missing Laserwriter II NTX

2005-05-23 Thread Kristina
It is plugged into the printer port.

I accidentaly tried to print a doc, like I thought the printer would work,
and the program 's printer dialog box recognized laserwriter, when I clicked
print the finder error said the doc could not be printed as there was no
desk top printer existed to spool the doc.

does that trigger anything?

Re: font becomes invisible

2005-05-12 Thread Kristina
Hi John,

Nice of you to answer.

The font has been corrupted? Try deleting it and then reinstalling it.
That's what I thot too, and I did delete it and reinstalled it from the
ATM4.0 disk, with its whole set of fonts...
no go

Then a friend of mine from my former design studio and the studio's tech
sent me new fonts...separate from the ATM 4.0's collection...(i had them
too, but like you he thot they may have become corrupted) to I tried those.

They loaded and appeared in suitcase, where the ATM's wouldn't, but in the
Quark doc they are jaggy. In fact I noticed now that I have installed this
suitcase 9 some of my older fonts are all jaggy, like my futura family. Sigh

I like the style sheet suitcase does, and groups all the fonts and families
in one style. ...but truth is

I like things when I lived in OS 8.6 my ATM 4.0 worked life was good ... or
was life better when I used a crayon?

How did the PB make out?
I want to say that after I 'rebuilt' it , felt like building: screwdrivers
and machine guts, but I now know i just reseated the RAM CHIP..TWICE,
per your instructions and ... then it zoomed off.

...uh after I plugged in its AC and recharged its battery.

The final breakthru came when I was able to use _the right- OS 9 install
disk to make a bootable CD withDiskWarrior on it. Boy did I waste some CD's
doing this and that...if I had a garden I'd decorate my scarecrow with
useless CD's my son wants to microwave them!!!

It was discovered that making a disk image on the DT prevented the right
system files to install on the image which I was trying to make for the
PB.

The DT files never worked on the PB. I should have made the bootable CD
ON THE PB to get the right files...but the PB doesn't have a burner...any
who...I got it going...
all compliments of Bob who was, like you very patient with a blonde/redhead
graphic artist who just wants to make the deadline , make money and knit.

In the mean time my area of Indiana had a storm and the 2nd Linksys Gateway
Router from Sprint blew out and I lost internet for a day, I had to call
printer's and clients on the PHONE, had two Sprint cowboys in my bedroom on
2 separate visits...that was yesterday

...TODAY my next job in line...the fonts fail so I have to re style the
newsletter, the client is in Europe I hope she likes it, because I can't
get these dang fonts to behave...and Houston we have a deadline.

how was your day?

Re: Lombard-DSL via ethernet

2005-05-12 Thread Kristina
can you connect the Lombard directly to the DSL modem using an ethernet cable,
Yes that is what I said in short words...sorry

Depending on what OS you are running
OS9
you would need to enter the account info prescribed by your ISP
The Lombard was connected by an Orinoco wireless Card and connected via a
Linksys GAteway router, but a storm blew that modem/router out yesterday
and the sprint guys left me with only a dsl modem with an ethernet
connection and promise to overnight a new router, the Wells Fargo Wagon did
NOT arrive today...but I needed it today...of course so I am improvising
with cables...i think

The Lombard has a wireless card...and a dial up modem...

All the account info is already in there...
isn't it?
from its previous state of wifi?

I just have to change servers or something!

I tried changing the setting from the Wan/IEEE (or whatever) setting that
it was set when it was using the Card

to ethernet, but that didn't work...

TCP/IP Control Panel to get an internet connection.
yes I know this, but I don't know what the settings would be for the
powerbook and a card.

I don't know how that would allow you to access graphics stuck
 on the Lombard.

I would email the jpegs from the Lombard to the DT where I am working,
then switch the ethernet/dsl cables from the Lombard back to the DT and
receive them for the document on the DT project.
