Re: [JAWS-Users] Is it possible in Jaws

2017-06-19 Thread Paul
That being said, the detect language option works well with Word. For
example, I'll be typing a story in English but need to quote a
Spanish-speaking character. The moment I type the Spanish phrase into
the doc and read it back, JAWS switches from Englis to Spanish, then
back to English after the Spanish phrase has been read. Works
great...but the L.A. Spanish reads too fast for my North American ears. LOL

Hi Rick, and Adrien

Thanks for coming back to me. JAWS is set to run from the system tray and
while I have my own JAWS 18 set to work this way and it works fine for me
the JAWS 17 on another computer is not behaving in the same way. I mean that
pulling jaws up on my own machine using JAWS key + J I can then down arrow
through the various sub menus of the jaws settings but pulling up JAWS 17 on
the other computer using keys, "JAWS key + J and down arrowing does not
produce the same results in that all I get is the options and inside the
options sub menu are the usual choices ending with exit.

[JAWS-Users] Weird Skype loss of focus after standby

2017-05-10 Thread Paul

Good morning,

Using JAWS 14.0, Win 7 Pro 64 bit and latest version of Skype, updated
last night. This problem has been occurring since even before the update.

If the computer has gone into sleep mode or after several hours of
inactivity, I lose all focus on Skype. Menu bar won't even open, the
page appears blank. Using a variety of JAWS strategies, including some
gymnastics withthe JAWS cursor does not help. The only remedy is to
sign out, wait, shut down Skype, restart Skype and log in. Any ideas?
I realize this is a bit esoteric for a Wednesday morning. Thanks in
advance to those brains larger than mine willing to help.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Looking for Recommendations for Accessible Software for Converting VHS, Audio Cassettes, etc. to a Computer File

2017-04-29 Thread Paul

Goldwave will also work for this. I do have a caveat here:

Most interfaces you can buy require the same drivers used by JAWS
(ACIO). A second sound card, or some software gymnastics may be
required to get such an interface and JAWS to work together.

Alternatively, you can simply connect an RCA to 1/8" (3.5 mm.) cable and
input the audio through your microphone input. Try to get an
"attenuated" or resistant cable, as microphone and line levels are quite
different from each other. Then, start the movie in your VC$R or the
music cassette and use Goldwave's recording function. The file can then
be saved in any audio format you like. I will warn you; even with this
method I've had numerous driver conflicts/resource demand conflicts when
trying to use JAWS (version 14.0/Win7 Pro) to do this, but when
successful the quality is awesome.

BTW, the above only applies to capturing audio from the tapes; video
import does require a separate interface.

Hope this helps,

Paul

Re: [JAWS-Users] gold wave recordings

2017-01-01 Thread Paul
Converting mono to stereo was a trick often done in the early 1960's.
Here's a quick n' dirty method.

1. Always make a safety copy of the sound file. Mark it clearly as an
archive, or "safety dub."

2. With the sound open in Goldwave, create a new sound (CTRL+N) and
specify a stereo soundfile.

3. Copy the original sound to the clipboard.

4. In the new sound you just created, use the combination Ctrl+shift+R
to select the right channel.

5. Mix the mono file into the blank right channel of your new sound.

6. Repeat the process with the laft channel of the new sound, mut set
the start point for mixing the mono track into the stereo sound at about
0.02 seconds. This slight delay will give an illusion of a stereo
sound. You can also then use Stereo Reverb under the Effects, Echo menu
to add some depth. Inverting one of the two channels in the new sound
can also add to the illusion.

Good luck.. Let me know how it works for you.

Kevin,
That effect is sometimes called "wave distortion". It can be caused by
several factors and so I'm going to recommend that you try a few
things to

isolate the issue and eliminate other causes of that distortion.
1. To make sure that the distortion isn't being caused by your computer's
sound card, plug in a set of headphones and then try experimenting
with the

volume.

If you have a digital recorder such as Olympus, try transferring the
file to

the recorder. Then play it on there. If the wave distortion doesn't
continue, then it's your sound card or amplifier.

There are many features available in Gold Wave which can change the way a
sound is heard by passing it through various filters. First, make a
copy of

the file.
Then, try filtering the sound using the Gold Wave features.

Finally, a distortion like that might be a part of the original recording
but isn't as noticeable at lower volumes. It is a given fact that
when you

add more power to an output, you add more headroom giving the signal a
chance to distort.
Good luck.

I have to chime in on this.

Sadly, the newest version of Moviemaker lacks the Video Capture feature,
which allows one to use one's webcam etc. to capture video, and also to

I too, am seeking a video editor which is completely usable without

limited to one-take, no edit video production using a camcorder.

Holger,
I don't know if youtube recently improved this, biut if you tab to the
video controls, there is usually a "skip ad" button, which JAWS will
read. I am using JFW 14 and Windows 7. This must be fairly recent, as
I was unable to find the skip ad button as recently as two months ago.
Good luck.

Oops... I was confusing two functions.

The Trim/Auto Trim commands deal with silences at the end and/or
beginning of a file. However, if you press ALT+C (, then F for filter,
then R for Remove Silence, you can specify using a dialog box how much
(length) of silence you want Goldwave to remove from within a selected
area of the file. This is very useful for removing long pauses within a
speech or interview, for instance.

For trimming silence from the end and beginning of entire files, I
typically use the Auto Trim function (Control+T). The decibel threshold
can be selected manually, but I find the default works just fine for this.

Another thing: Depending on the directory structure of the DVD, you
might need to go to the Play menu, down arrow to Chapter and manually
start the movie at the first chapter. Many DVDs are now laden with
features, accessible typically from a start menu that is often labeled

the first actual chapter in the movie has been started. BTW, this is
not the case for all DVDs, but I've often seen it when using VLC. HTH -

Re: [JAWS-Users] reccording to computer from tapes

2014-12-29 Thread Paul Shallbetter

Hi Theresa,

Many questions again. Okay...here goes.

1. Cassette tapes are in an analog format. To be saved on the computer,
they must be converted to a digital format. Since your laptop has no audio
inputs, you'll have to digitize the audio before transferring it to the
computer via the USB port. Therefore:

a.) You can buy an interface which has the ADC (analog to digital converter)
built in. Or,

b.) you can as you said, use a digital recorder, then simply transfer the
files.

2. Either way, you'll end up with a recording where 2 of the 4 tracks will
be present in the right and left stereo channels. If this happens, there's
no way to separate them. However, if you transfer one side of the cassette
at a time, you can then select either the right or left channels and make
each into a separate audio track (i.e. saved as a separate file). Again,
using either Audacity or Goldwave (Goldwave is better for this task), you
can easily separate out the tracks.

Again, I'm presuming that you're attempting to copy Library of Congress
audio book format cassettes. For normal stereo (i.e. music) cassettes, the
job is a bit easier.

Best Buy and DAK Electronics both sell little plug-in audio interfaces for
laptops. They typically feature a male USB connector to put into the
computer on one end, and a 1/8 (3.5 millimeter) female audio port of the
other side. Again, Goldwave is the best solution for software, both in
terms of accessibility and functionality. However, you might want to search
the Internet to find other applications that might be cheaper and/or easier.
But Goldwave is what I use.

Hope this helps,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Would it be possible to record a four-track tape with Audacity, wihich is
free? If the old cable that conected old tape recorders doesn't work, I
wonder if I could do the recording without conecting the recorder to the
computer. Like in the old days when those cables were not around.

I was also thinking about using a digital recorder and then transfering
the content to the computer form there, but is it posible to do the
four-track? I am new to all of this, so that is why I need detailed

Hi Theresa,

Lots of questions.

First off, see if you can find a USB to audio adaptor. I've seen a couple
that use the 3.5 m.m. (1/8 inch) connector, but I haven't seen one that
uses

the same RCA phono connectors that were used on old tape decks. You might
need an adaptor cable as well.

Yes, using Goldwave you could record each side of the tape to digital,
then

cut/copy the left track or right track to a new sound file. If you don't
have crosstalk between the channels, this will work fine. Same thing
goes

for Library of Congress format tapes, which are at half normal cassette
speed; just record them into Goldwave, select the Pitch option from the
Effects menu, then select (down one octave) to normalize the speed.

A larger problem I have had with interfaces is that they fight over the
ACEO

drivers with JAWS, and JAWS usually loses. So, you might find yourself
without speech.

I don't know if any of this helps; I bought a $79.00 cheap
direct-to-digital tape player that connects directly into a USB port.
I'ts made by a company called Ion.

HTH,

Paul

some time now, but I had never tried it out until yesterday. The program
is

Total Recorder. To an extent the program is free, but I say to an extent
because it tells you that you have full functionality of the program the
only thing is it will place a beep ever so often in the recording. I got
my

video trimmed down and listened to my edited file, I never heard the beep,
but their does seem to be periods of silence from time to time that I am
not
sure, but this may be what they are talking about. Both their audio only
and

their video programs are free to use with these little marks supposedly
place throughout the recording. If anyone knows of any podcasts regarding
Total Recorder or can offer any more information on the program please
enlighten me.

I got the link from the blind technology list and have not tried the link
out myself. If it does not work then I will go and try to retrieve it for
you, just let me know. I believe the program to get the beeps removed and
whatever other marks they place in the file price tag is somewhere between
$50 and $70. I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to that since I just
need

it for amateur stuff.

Hi Steven all,

You were right, the I T person found the system was very busy fetching

Somehow, my roaming profile had not properly transferred to the new office,

needed from the old server.

They sorted out the profile problem rebooted the machine. The problem with
Jaws not speaking for long periods was fixed.

Thanks again for your help.

It sounds to me as if something is taking up all the machine resources for
the duration that JAWS is not speaking as there are not enough resources
left for it to run correctly?
Possibly check in the event log of the machine.
What operating system is it?
Can you try a different network port/cable or disconnect any network drives

Hi all,

I'm using JAWS version 13 at work, have recently moved to another branch.

At the old office, Jaws was working brilliantly well, with no issues at all.

When I changed offices, I took the computer I was using with me,there
are no Jaws related files on the server.

Now, Jaws randomly just stops talking for 10 to 15 seconds, then returns to
normal. In between, it works as well as before. It happens 3 to 4 times
an hour, which is becoming quite frustrating, especially when on the phone
to a customer.

There is nothing I can do to make the voice come back on, I tried
alt-tabbing elsewhere, everything else I can think of, but no joy.

If I don't do anything when it stops talking, it just comes back on after 10
seconds or so...

Can anyone please suggest what might be causing this, or what I can do to
track it down...

Thank you,
Paul from Australia

the most about Gator is your ability to pay on a month to month bases. Of
course, if you do this, it will cost you more in the long run. I have an
affiliate link if you're interested in signing up as well contact me off
list. One of the other things I like about Gator is their customer service.
They'll help you if you need it along the way. I've not heard anything at
all negative about Bluehost but, me personally, I've never used them. I do
know that they have a one touch installation tool for wordpress if you're
interested in using that. Both of these host are well recommended within the
podcasting community. Also for building email lists, campains, whatever you
choose to call them. I use mail chimp. It can be a little daunting to get

Any thoughts.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Copy File name

2013-07-20 Thread Paul Magill
Hi Nicole,

2 methods.

These presume you are using Windows Explorer in Windows 7, and have focus on
the desired file name.

Press shift+applications key, which brings up a list of options, then arrow
down to Copy as Path.
Hit enter on that, and the full file path will be copied to the clipboard
with no feedback from Jaws.

If you just want the file name, then press F2, then highlight the file name
using shift and an arrow key, do the control+C to copy to the clipboard,
then ***very importantly, press escape to drop out of that edit field, as F2
is used to change file names.

Hope this helps,
Paul from Aust.

[JAWS-Users] Adobe Flash with JAWS, unlabeled buttons question

2013-03-28 Thread Paul Shallbetter
I hope this question hasn't already been asked and answered. Forgive me in
advance if it has.

When JFW encounters buttons in the Flash player (video controls and markers?)
it only reads the buttons by number if they're unlabeled.

Question1: Does Flash have a standard button scheme, where button 1 is always
start, button 2 is pause etc.?

2. Are there any scripts or at least tips, for navigating the video control
panel in Flash? I know it sounds odd that a blind guy would need to know this,
but thanks in advance for any help.

[JAWS-Users] Translators compatible with JAWS?

2013-03-28 Thread Paul Shallbetter
I've asked this before, but I'm hoping that a new subscriber expert might be
able to help me, as I need this type of software for my work.

Is there a JAWS-compatible language translator software out there? Older
versions of SysTran worked quite well with JAWS; my former setup was a 3.xx
version of JAWS with Systran on a Windows 2000 machine. However, new versions
of both Systran and JAWS don't play together at all.

While I can use online translators for a few words or a short phrase, I need to
be able to translate massive Word documents between English, Spanish and
Portugese in order to do my job; please help if you can. If we want to
brainstorm, we could take this off-list, but if you have a solid factual
answer, please post it right away.

Thanks!

Make your life a whole lot easier and switch from Google to Startpage.com.
This search engine uses Google, but has a much cleaner interface and
protects your privacy at the same time. Just give it a try. Once you start
using it, you will not go back to Google.

I turned on the html elements with insert+f8 and still couldn't check it.
GRRR!

I guess my next option is to collect and install nvda. Thanks for the

Re: [JAWS-Users] How do I prevent Firefox from automatically upgrading

2013-02-28 Thread Sean Paul

Heyya Sherrie:
To prevent Firefox from updating. Open firefox, on the tools menu find,
options, once you do open it, you're presented with a list box, use your
up down arrows until you find advanced, tab down once find a page which
says general. Control tab until you find the update tab, once found, tab
once find the 3 radiobutton choices which are, audomaticly check for
install updates, check for updates but ask me what to do do nothing, make
your choice tab until you find the ok button. As far as how many versions
you can have run on your system, I'm not the answerman for that perhaps
someone else can help you.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] How do I prevent Firefox from automatically upgrading

Since Firefox 19 constantly freezes using my Win 7 64 bit Dell laptop with
Jaws 14 I reinstalled Firefox 15 which was the original version I had
installed. I checked and it said Firefox 15. I went through all the
options and could not find any that mentioned automatic upgrades.
But when I opened Firefox the next time it just said “Upgrading” and it
went back to 19. No choice offered at all.

So how do I make it stay at version 15?
I really need it for at least 6 websites that I frequently use.
When Firefox freezes it won’t quit with any keystrokes including Alt
control escape or alt control delete or alt F4 or anything else.

I have to restart the computer and that is a royal pain.
I was advised in a previous message that one could have several different
versions of Firefox on the computerat the same time.
When I installed Firefox 15 after having Firefox 19 already on the
computer it replaced the version 19. I went to the control panel remove
programs and checked the list to see which versions showed up and it only
showed version 15 so I assumed it had replaced the version 19.

But the first time I tried using it after that it went back to 19.
Help, please.

You are going about it the hard way. Correct that was the method in the
past
but for several versions already and I'm not sure when it began but
follow

these steps.

Go to your JAWS window.
Go to the utilities menu, and arrow down to the sound card sub menu.

In there you simply arrow to your desired card and hit enter.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Sound Card issue with Jaws 9 XP machine

Heyya folks thanks for taking time to read this. I'm having a real
issue
this evening I've hunted tried most every thing. I purchased
installed
an Audio Technica ATR 2100 Mic wich is both a USB XLR Mic, that also
has a
headphone jack on the back of it for monitoring your output audio from
the
mic. The issue came in when I installed the mic. The mic changed my
output
device to that particular device. I was able to change everything back to
my

Real Teck HD output device through control panel. However, JAWS remains
coming out the headphone jack of the mic. I've tried the steps outlined
here.
Editing the jfw.ini file:

1.. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, browse your hard drive to the
currently running version of JAWS and find the jfw.ini file in that
folder.

 2.. Press ENTER to open.
3.. You should find some lines that read:

   a.. Synth1Name=eloq
   b.. Synth1LongName=Eloquence for JAWS
   c.. Synth1Driver=eloq

The number doesn't matter, it may be 1, 2, or 3, but it must be the
same

for all entries for Eloquence.

4.. Add the following line after the driver line: Synth1Port=SB Live!
Wave
Device. Of course, you need to make sure that the synth number matches
the

other lines, so that if the Driver line read Synth3Driver=eloq then the
port line would read Synth3Port=SB Live! Wave Device

The text after the = sign in the Port line comes from Control
Panel/Sound
Multimedia/Audio tab. It must be one of the entries that can be chosen
for

Preferred Playback device.

5.. Save your changes and exit Notepad. So, mine now looks like this.
 6.. [Synthesizers]
 Synth1Name=eloq
 Synth1LongName=Eloquence Software
 Synth1Driver=eloq
 Synth1Port=SB Live! Wave Device

7.. Again, still no JAWS from my speakers, any help would be greatly
appreciated. Also when I take the device out reconnect it, I once again
have to change my sounds back in control panel. Look forward to hearing
from

someone soon. I'm as stated in the subject line running Windows XP SP3
JAWS 9.

2. If not, are there other translation programs which play nicely with JAWS?

Rose, as far as getting to search results quickly on google, I put a place

2012-07-21 Thread Paul Magill
Hi Steven,

Home Row is now called Script Utility mode, you can read more about it in
the Basics of Scripting files provided by FS with each version of Jaws.

It is a self extracting zip file in the JAWS manuals folder. - it will
unpack to 50 .htm files in the folder:
C:\FreedomScientificDocs\Basics-of-Scripting

The file you are looking for is near the bottom of the list is called,
13-3_ScriptUtilityMode.htm

You may wish to join the Jaws scripting list for more help with scripting:

[JAWS-Users] problem using Same Time in Lotus Notes

2012-06-16 Thread Paul Magill
Hi all,

At work we use the Same Time messaging service that is part of Lotus Notes.

I can use it fine where I have the person I'm sending it to on the Same
Time contact list, but have difficulty sending a one off message, to
someone I have not previously received any contact or email from..

I type their name into the edit field that gains focus when the Same Time
feature is activated, can use the JAWS cursor to click on the word
Search which according to Jaws seems to be one line lower, and that
generally allows, chat to become available on the list brought up by the
application key.

Then all goes well. But this is very fidgity, tedious and darn time
consuming...

Can anyone please tell me an easier way...

i e. type the person's name, then...???

With much appreciation,
Paul from Australia

Subject: Here is the information I promised about adding to default script
files

Hi David,

In the event you are just adding to your defaults rather than modifying our
scripts, this could be helpful avoiding problems in the future.

Regards,

Eric

Safely Adding Default Scripts

Starting with JAWS 12, the default script file makes use of
MyExtensions.jsb. MyExtensions.jss includes standard headers, but contains
only a couple of stub functions for source code. The purpose of the
MyExtensions scripts is to include in the JAWS distribution a script source
file that will never contain any Freedom Scientific source code, thus
allowing the end user to safely add new custom scripts without the need to
make any changes due to a JAWS update. For this reason, new scripts and
functions added to MyExtensions and placed in the user settings folder is a
safe way to add custom scripts to JAWS.

You should be aware, however, that MyExtensions should not be used to
overwrite existing scripts or functions. Default scripts and functions do
not call down to MyExtensions, so any scripts or functions in MyExtensions
that have the same name as those in default or application scripts will
never run. Scripts or functions with unique names will run, which is why you
can use MyExtensions for added scripts and functions.

Because JAWS key map (JKM) files are layered, you can also assign key
mappings to your added MyExtensions scripts in default.jkm in your user
settings. You can use Keyboard Manager to locate your scripts in
MyExtensions by looking under Default scripts and assign keys to your custom
scripts.

By adding your custom scripts to MyExtensions, and assigning keys in
default, you can safely extend JAWS scripts to include your own custom
scripts. If you have developed a library of custom functions in a JSB file,
you can add it to MyExtensions through the Use statement and it will now be
available to you.

Just remember to use unique names for scripts or functions added through
MyExtensions, and save your modified MyExtensions source and compiled files
to your user settings, and you should be able to enjoy your own custom
scripts added to JAWS without having to make changes due to JAWS updates.
You can also copy your MyExtensions files to new versions of JAWS. Depending
on the extent of your script coding, you may want to ensure that your
scripts are up-to-date with the latest script innovations, but you won't
need to modify your scripts simply because JAWS updated.

With Eric's help I got it worked out, I might do an audio tutorial on it as
there are several steps involved but this should avoid any future conflicts
like many of us experienced earlier this week.

It seems to me to have the virtue of being portable meaning if you have more
than 1 system running the same settings then copying a few files between
systems should keep them in sink.

[JAWS-Users] jaws tandam with windows 7 UAC screen!

2012-04-20 Thread (Lists) Paul Traynor
Hi All,

Has anyone got any tips for getting past the UAC screen on remote PC when
using jaws tandam. I have tried using the Alt + Y to accept what I am
doing for example installing software on another persons computer but
everything seems to lock up and I get no response. My only way around it was
to contact the person whose computer I am trying to work on and get them
there to choose the Yes button and only then can I regain control.

Re: [JAWS-Users] scripting

2012-01-25 Thread Paul Magill
Hi,

I think that the book/file,
Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Writing JFW Scripts, But Didn't
Know Whom to Ask, by Ken Gould
is still the best way for the beginner to get into scripting.

That book was my starting point, along with help from the JAWS scripting
list suggested in an earlier post.

Remember though, that book was written before JAWS 6.0, and the location of
scripting files is now differnt, there are now more functions, features
etc not covered.

* I mention this just so you are aware, certainly not to discourage the use
of the book, as I said, I think it is still the best way to start.

FS also provides a book, Basics of Scripting, located in the manuals folder
of each version.

When you get to the point of understanding the use of functions, you may
like to download from FS the FSDN function reference guide, which is
basically the information available from the control+I keystroke, but
arranged in a more friendly way to help you find a suitable function to use.
It also has some other useful topics.

- you can download the FSDN from the FS download page:
http://www.freedomscientific.com/documentation/screen-readers.asp
which also has other files relevant to scripting.

Paul from Australia

Re: [JAWS-Users] scripting

2012-01-25 Thread Paul Magill
Hi,

Yes, the examples from that book will still compile.

FS goes to a lot of trouble to make their scripting, other features,
backward compatible.

In some more complex scripts, changes have been required between JAWS
versions, but by the time you can write scripts of that kind, handling the
changes is not an issue.

For anyone who runs into compile errors they can not resolve, then on the
JAWS scripting list, post the query with a copy of the script or function
that is causing the problem, along with a copy of the error message the
compiler gave, someone may be able to help...

The thing I'd wonder about is that if one went by info based on Jaws 6, will
it even compile any more using something newer? I tried to follow those
lessons on Main Menu from Jim Snowbarger, and ran into compile errors
quickly, and that may have been a couple years ago.

[JAWS-Users] jaws 12 repeating file names!

2012-01-17 Thread (Lists) Paul Traynor
Hi All,

Any ideas on why jaws 12 might be reading filenames twice. For example as

File 1, file 1 and File 2, File 2. It just keeps repeating the name
twice like its bouncing off of each name. This machine uses Windows XP with
all latest updates. Any ideas would be most welcome.

Try the following;

To change this setting press, Insert / Jaws Key + V, press the letter T,
until you land on TAB Measurement Indication - On, then press the space bar
to turn it off.

This option controls whether to indicate the new measurement from the left
margin when the TAB key is pressed. The default setting is On.

Hope this helps. Take care.

I can't locate any setting in Outlook 2007 that controls code for
in-coming
messages, only out-going. Also, I tried adding one of the weird codes to
the

dictionary once again, and it did not work- again.

I'm using outlook Express, but it'd be in a similar (view) menu or
Ribbon.
Look in there. it has to do with Windows encoding. there may be an
Encoding
submenu, which lists all the windows encoding types. the one I have
checked
is Western European iso, and I never have the problem (although I've
heard
of it in the past from people who had. that's the way towards the
solution.

If not in the view menu, then look in others.
the view ribbon?)

I get that in Outlook 2007 also and also on the internet. Hope someone
knows the solution. I even tried putting that string in the JAWS
dictionary, but was really not able to silence all instances of this
garbage. I have wondered if it is problem with the html code or with
JAWS- anyone know?

In Outlook 2010 I am hearing quite often JAWS 12 saying something like
ACircumflexTrademark ACircumflexEuro. What does this mean and how
can I stop it?

Thanks,

Donnie

Re: [JAWS-Users] Successful JAWS installation on Win XP PRO 64-bit, anyone?

2011-06-26 Thread Paul (Pawel) Loba
Hi,
It is strange since everything except this silly video intercept business
went through. If there is no cure for it I need to go with NVDA, I guess.
Thanks for you reply.
Pawel.

JAWS will not work with the 64 bit version of XP at all. It just won't
happen, sorry to tell you.

Hello,
I know it sounds strange but I'm trying to install JAWS on Windows XP PRO
64-bit edition. I am having a bad luck with video intercept execution. Is
there anybody who went through this successfully and could give me some tip
how to solve my problem?
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Pawel.

[JAWS-Users] Finding attachments in Mazilla Thunderbird 3.1 with jaws!

2011-06-23 Thread (Lists) Paul Traynor
Hi All,

Is there a specific shortcut key either provided by jaws or native within
the Thunderbird application itself which pulls up a list of attachments
from within an email message?. Otherwise, what do others here use in
Thunderbird for getting to their attachments?.

Many thanks,

Paul.

Re: [JAWS-Users] an audio tutorial

2011-06-21 Thread Paul Shallbetter

Robin, I can't speak for David, but here's what I am using.
F
or portable recording, I use an Olympus DM-4, which records and saves files
in .WAV, .mp3 and .wma formats, at a variety of bit rates. (The higher the
bit rate, generally speaking, the higher the fidelity of the recording but
the more storage space required.

For microphones I either use the built-in mics (very good) on the Olympus,
or a pair of electret condenser microphones from Core Sound, or a lavalier
microphone from RadioShack and/or Sony. It depends on the kind of recording
you want to do; for voice, podcasts and audio blogs for instance, the
built-in microphones might be enough. For concerts etc. I use the binaural
condenser microphone pair.

I also have a Tascam DR7. Bigger, bulkier but with more dedicated buttons.
Uses common AA batteries (the Olympus uses a proprietary battery pack). The
Tascam doesn't record to . all formats, however.

I hope this helps. Feel free to mail me off-list if you want more
information.

A question for you on doing the recordings. What type of mic and device
are you using to record these and if one wanted to record in MP3 format
in good quality what would one use?

I just posted a brief tutorial covering ripping an audio CD with media
player 11. Next I hope to post such an animal using gold wave this week
some time. With luck and time permits there are a couple of others I
have in mind that hopefully will be of some benefit.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 12 Video/Control Backspace Problem, Sony VAIO Laptop

2011-06-21 Thread Paul Shallbetter
I am experiencing the same problem. I discovered the root cause when I
attempted to run the Video Intercept setup program and it failed.

It turns out that I need to reload all the video drivers before I can
reinstall the video intercept.

The problem is maddening.

That's interesting.
I also have Intel ® HD audio/video/graphic drivers and never had an issue.

Are you sure its not something with the video intercept manager?

Hello everyone,

I am using JAWS 12.0.1161 on a Sony Vaio VPCS131 laptop running

This has been an ongoing problem since I got the laptop in January. I
decided to call FS today to see if they could help, and was informed
that the problem was likely due to the integrated graphics hardware on
my computer. I have an Intel HD Graphics card, and the latest drivers
are installed. I have tried disabling the Intel HD Graphics driver
and doing a repair on JAWS, and the problem still exists. I also have
NVIDIA graphics software on my computer, but uninstalling that did no
good.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might do to fix this
problem, or am I esencially out of luck?

Thanks,
Michael

[JAWS-Users] itunes Inquiry

2011-03-10 Thread Paul Morline
forgive me if there were earlier threads about itunes with jaws. I am
relatively new to the list.

i have a need to use itunes for downloading movies for the apple tv.

according to what i read on the apple pages they say that Window Eyes is
accessible for the itunes application and it does not mention jaws.

I would appreciate hearing from listers who use jaws with itunes or can share
what you know about how they interface.
