[leaf-user] Alcatel adsl speedtouch problems.
Hi all, I am still trying to get my adsl connection going using an usb speedtouch adsl modem, but so far no luck. I followed the descriptions in the bering users guide but I am still not succesfull. If i run the ifup -v ppp0 as suggested by Jacques when he tried to help out Matthew I see the commands defined in my /etc/interfaces execute, so I see the mount, modem_run command, and then pon adsl. But after that I don't see a ppp0 device when I do an ip add. I have attached the relevant portions of daemon.log & syslog Any help would be greatly appreciated. [leaf-user] Unresolved symbol: gr_is_capable
Hi all, I have been trying to compile my own bering 1.2 kernel based on a stock 2.4.20 kernel & patched with the patches from Jacques' devel folder. Compiling the kernel went fine. Problem is I don't get my 8139too or my hostap.o to load. I get an error stating unresolved symbol: gr_is_capable. I tried with my own modules & with the ones downloaded from Jacques' site same result. Anyone has any ideas on how to solve this? I assume it is grsecurity related, but don't know how to fix it. [leaf-user] compiling a uclibc kernel
Hi all, Is there something special I should know about comiling my own kernel for bering uclibc version 1? So far I tried starting from stock 2.4.20 & apply patches from the bering environment Starting from the 2.4.20 prepatched kernel sources from the download dir. Compiled those in a gentoo 1.1 (2.4.19 kernel environment) & in a woody uml environment. Kernels seem to compile fine using the bering config (adding ipt_string & smp support). But booting using the kernels is unsuccessfull Kernel Panic attempted to kill init. Any help greatly appreciated. Re: [leaf-user] Shorewall log
Port 445 is Win2K's backup for the smb related netbios ports 135;137 & 139. If eth0 is your internet attached interface someone is probably trying to get some netbios related info from your machine & the firewall is blocking it as it should. Oops, seems I forgot some info. Lshd is definitely running, I can access it internally. The connection fails with a timeout after about 10 seconds. Routing seems to work just fine, since I can access just about anything from the inside to the internet. I don't have access to the logs at this point though. Re: [leaf-user] bandwidth manager with htb
After reading your rules at a quick glance you seem to need the folowing modules loaded. cls_u32.o Sch_htb.o Sch_sfq.o Sch_prio.o Verify that they are loaded by issuing the lsmod command. You might want to split up your tcstart and insert an echo ok echo ok1 and so on in between the rules. That way you know which rule is generating the problem. Good luck. [leaf-user] Wireless bridge not working.
Morning people, (Well for me it's morning). I am trying to set up a wireless bridge on bering RC3 using a dlink 520 pci wireless nic (prism2 based)and a 3com 590. both interface are up & running. So far I have the bridge module loaded. The 2 interfaces eth1 & wlan0 added to the bridge. Both interfaces are up & in promisc mode. The bridge interface gets ip address 192.168.0.1 I can ping from the firewall to the access point (wireless) on 192.168.0.4. I can ping from the firewall to a client (cross cable) on 192.168.0.2. I cannot however ping from the client to the access point. Strange thing is that I have configured an almost identical setup for a friend of mine, and everything is working fine there. Only difference between his setup & mine is that he is using ad-hoc mode (2 wireless interfaces talking directly to each other). and I am using infrastructure mode (with an access point). Is there anything obvious I have forgotten? ip add output: 1: lo: mtu 16436 qdisc noqueue link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00 inet 127.0.0.1/8 brd 127.255.255.255 scope host lo 2: dummy0: mtu 1500 qdisc noop link/ether 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff 3: eth0: mtu 1500 qdisc htb qlen 100 link/ether 00:50:da:bf:fb:b5 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 213.118.142.5/22 brd 213.118.143.255 scope global eth0 4: eth1: mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast qlen 100 link/ether 00:10:b5:41:a4:de brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff 5: wlan0: mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast qlen 100 link/ether 00:05:5d:5c:39:47 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff 6: cipdb0: mtu 1428 qdisc noop qlen 100 link/ether 00:00:5e:c2:00:00 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff 7: br0: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue link/ether 00:05:5d:5c:39:47 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 192.168.0.1/24 brd 192.168.0.255 scope global br0 ip route output: 192.168.0.0/24 dev br0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.0.1 213.118.140.0/22 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 213.118.142.5 default via 213.118.140.1 dev eth0 # brctl show bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces br0 8000.00055d5c3947 yes eth1 wlan0 --- This sf.net email is sponsored by: OSDN - Tired of that same old cell phone? [leaf-user] Where to put iwconfig calls?
Hi list, since no one seemed to know how I could get my dlink 520 to retain its config after boot I decided to go about it in another way. I would like to make some iwconfig calls during each boot. mainly : iwconfig wlan0 mode managed iwconfig wlan0 essid default What would be the correct or best place to do this? /etc/interfaces doesn't seem to work since I need to add the wlan0 later on to a bridge. Re: [leaf-user] broadcast through pptp-connection (bering rc3)
One way to have broadcasting sent over wan links is to use cipe in bridging mode. I have created a package that does just this. Before anyone asks why I want this the reason is pretty simple. A lot of lan games tend to use broadcasting to find the game server, so this way I am trying to play lan games over the internet. As for a business reason to do this, I can't come up with a good example neither. I think you can still set the destination by using the d in the backup menu & then use the c for custom. If you don't add an entry for fd0 in your isolinux.cfg you probably won't be able to take advantage of the overriding capabilities of the lrpkg.cfg file. Re: [leaf-user] Unknown traffic on firewall
Port 1214 is used by the filesharing application Kazaa. Recently a vulnerablitiy must have come up because I have been seeing regular scans on a daily basis from different ip's for about a month now. As David already replied you are not accepting nor deny'ing them but you are rejecting them. Only difference is that you do reply with a reset packet to close off the session. Well I guess you could say it is slightly more polite then not responding at all :-). Unfortunately it is also telling that your machine is up & is doing some filtering so you could consider it slightly less secure as well. RE: [leaf-user] Help with a Possible Bering Configuration Please
I have just set up an almost identical environment. Just a tad bit more difficult because it used pppoe to go out instead of eth0. Your problem with shorewall not responding is probably because something is wrong with your routing table. So to fix this you should bring up all of your interfaces and the bridge in the interfaces file. Make sure your eth1 & wlan 0 don't have an ip address. The only interface needing an ip address is the br0 (bridge interface). Don't forget to make sure that dhcpd uses br0 to distribute addresses and make the necessary adjustments to shorewall so that br0 is being masquereaded and so on. If you need more detailed help just ask. Kim Oppalfens > >I've been trying for the last few weeks to create the following small >office "killer" Bering distribution. I have done a network monitor of a traceroute session and traceroute uses identical packets as ping does just with shorter TTL. Traceroute in ms is based on the fact that if the ttl becomes 0 the router that drops the packet because of this sends you a time to live exceeded in transmit back. (This message contains the routers ip address). Ms traceroute sends 3 of these packages to every hop. So if 1 of them is timing out it is probably a site between you and your traceroute target that has icmp replies filtered. Bottom line it is probably out of your hands. Someone on the road is blocking icmp. It doesn't kill traceroute but it means your missing one hop. The unix traceroute is based on the fact that you will respond with a package stating that nothing is listening on that port. That is normal behaviour if you don't have a firewall DROPping the package. A reject rule might make a unix traceroute already happy (not sure though). As to making the traceroute from microsoft work, I am pretty sure it involves some icmp rule being added, not sure what though. But default bering only allows icmp type 8 in which is the echo request icmp packet. Just testing by allowing all icmp in should confirm my suspicion that it is an icmp related issue. Close it up afterwards again. I will try and network monitor an microsoft traceroute and come back with a better filtered solution. [leaf-user] cipe bridging over the internet SUCCES
Hi all, I am not quite finished yet and still need to do some testing. But I am way to excited to wait. Things that are working as we speak. Is pinging internal interfaces on both sides of the cipe tunnel. And accessing file shares through the cipe tunnel. Current setup Box 1: Internal ip 192.168.0.1 (mask 24) External ip x.x.172.2 eth1. Bridged interface (192.168.0.1). Bridge parts eth1 & cipdb0. (both without ip). Box 2: Internal ip 192.168.0.10 External ip x.x.182.186 ppp0 (pppoe interface). Bridged interface 192.168.0.10 (mask 24) Bridge parts eth1, cipdb0 & wlan0. Gonna try some lan gaming over the internet this weekend. Btw using bering RC3 on box2 RC2 on box 1 both modified to use glibc2.2 (cdrom based) Kim - This mail sent through Tiscali Webmail (http://webmail.tiscali.be) --- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Gadgets, caffeine, t-shirts, fun stuff. http://thinkgeek.com/sf leaf-user mailing list: [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/leaf-user SR FAQ: http://leaf-project.org/pub/doc/docmanager/docid_1891.html

Re: [leaf-user] tc
Aanhalen hari-nuryadi <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: I don't think you have to recompile anything. I am acutually quite sure since I have been using tc with bering rc2. You are probably just missing some modules. Check http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/jnilo/bering/latest/modules/net/sched/ You need cls_fw; sch_cbq or tbf although htb is easier; and maybe some other stuff depending on what you want to do. Load these modules in /etc/modules after they are copied to /lib/modules try again. If you need more help just ask Kim Oppalfens > Hmm > I'm not so sure which part of Bering which include tc in > default, but mine used bering-1.0.rc-3 and have tc on it. > Maybe i have already add tc.lrp on it, i have checked it on > syslinux.cfg and on my harddisk...yes..there is tc on it. > > I have try googling and i found a mailing list that analyze > i have to recompile my kernel to support RTNETLINK, if it's > the answer, so the next question is how to recompile kernel > on Bering to support RTNETLINK. Re: [leaf-user] eth1 not found
Aanhalen The Tiger <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: If I am not mistaken, the 8139 module depends on the mii.o module to be loaded in advance. But You might want to try to find out which card is non functional. One way to accomplish this is to find out which ip address you already have. (for eth0) Try pinging that ip and check the back of your box for the led that is blinking on ping rhythm :-). Then check your box to see which card that is. That will probably give us some more info to troubleshoot your problem then we have now. Btw which cards are in there at this point (since you mention 3 different cards) Kim Oppalfens Azlan Training Leaf-project member > I am trying to create a bering floppy setup for my firewall and I am > having > trouble I think with the nics being recognized. If you followed the guide that was mentioned in the previous guide and you entered /dev/cdrom in boot & pkgpath variable (in syslinux.cfg) this is probably your problem. You can easily check this by booting from cdrom and do ls /dev/cdrom if there is no file found you will have to specify something else in syslinux.cfg probably /dev/hda or /dev/hdb or /dev/hdc or /dev/hdd Check your boot sequence to see how your cdrom is detected Kim Oppalfens Azlan Training > You should address these questions to the list. > > Anyway, have you read the doc? > > http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/jnilo/bucdrom.html > > Please explain in more detail what is not working. > > Cheers > > -Original Message- > From: Mohd Nazri Bin Ab Hamid [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Wednesday, May 15, 2002 4:14 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: > > > hi.. one Q, > > i got bering floppy that is worked for eth0 and ppp0, now i want to > create a > bootable bering CDROM. > > while booting from CDROM i got and error: kernel panic: Attempted to > kill > init! why? > > Thanks in advance. > > > ___ > > Have big pipes? After I boot all modules are loaded (according to lsmod) except for isofs.o. If i try to insmod isofs.o I get the same problem, but a mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt works like a charm. So I think I can conclude that there is nothing wrong with the modules, can't I? I am affraid this also rules out master/slave problems. Correction this definitely rules out master/slave since flashrom is on ide channel 0 & cdrom on ide channel 1. I didn't include ideflash support in the kernel by the way, the apacer module uses the ide specifiaction and does not need anything special to work. Re: [Leaf-user] Compiling modules for Bering
Aanhalen Dave Anderson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: I am by no means an expert on the matter but since noone responded I'll share my views. I have compiled my own "bering kernel" so I should be able to tell you a thing or two. When I compiled my own kernel I had some problems so I asked the list if it could be glibc based, I was told (I believe by jacques that kernel & modules do not depend on the libc library so that this couldn't be the problem). I 'll save you the rest of my problems but this should answer your question. For the module to compile it is probably as simple as compiling it to a stock kernel. Although your original kernel probably has to be compiled with the option or hook (or whatever it is called to accept your module). Bottom line you will probably have to change your kernel too if you want to use your own compiled module. Consequence is that your kernel will have to be patched for lrp. Check Jacques Nilo's developper page on Http://leaf.sourceforge.net for the patches. Jacques or anyone else, If I am goofing please correct thanks. [Leaf-user] snort logging to mysql database (repost forgot subject)
Hi all, Sorry about the repost (forgot about the subject line) Just installed the snort IDS package and it seems to be working. (Seems to be because I don't know anything about writing the preprocessors or filter rules yet). What I would like to do next is log to a mysql Database. And I was wondering if anyone already made a mysql.lrp. I know this is going to take quite some diskspace, but I am hoping That my 64 MB ramdisk will cope. Would any of the people who already tried (and preferably succeeded) upgraded to glibc 2.1.3 give a little bit more explanation at how it is done? I am running a dual floppy eigerstein for the moment and would like a shot. Is it just a matter of replacing some binaries and maybe some symbolic links? If so which binaries and which links would that be? Or is there more to it than that? Does the kernel version or something in kernel configuration has something to do with it? I already noticed there is a dachstein cd iso with glibc 2.1.3 support, if it is just a matter of replacing binaries could I just copy those from this iso image? [Leaf-user] Ipupdate with Proxy support
Hi all, My new ISP requires all trafic to pass its proxy server. I was happily using ez-ipupdate to update my dyndns account, but that doesn't seem to work through the proxy. So my question is does anybody know either how to configure ez-ipupdate for proxies, or has anonther updater available that supports the dyndns service as an lrp package. Or if you know about another program that doesnot require python or perl I could try and make that into an lrp myself. (I dont want to have add a perl or python package to my floppy) Kim Oppalfens - This mail sent through Tiscalinet Webmail (http://webmail.tiscali.be) ___ Leaf-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/leaf-user
Re: [Leaf-user] OPENSSHD
Aanhalen [EMAIL PROTECTED]: If you are behind a cable modem, you might have the same problem I did. That problem being that your isp is blocking port 22. Just put your ssh daemon on a port above 1024 and things should be fixed. That is if this was the issue off course. Kim Oppalfens > I'm back! [Leaf-user] packages in the oxygen directory
Hi all and especially to David, I have downloaded some of the packages from the oxygen packages list and tried them on my eigerstein beta2 but they all seem to segfault. I am talking especially about ethereal and winscan, is this a library problem or a kernel version issue? And is it fixable without switching over to an oxygen distribution? Because I got quite accustomed to my eigerstein config? Thanks in advance. [Leaf-user] searching the mailing lists
Hi all, is there some secret trick about searching the leaf mailing lists that I am not aware off?? My searching on vpn didn't yield any results, and I think it is rather unlikely that there has not been any talk about vpn's on the leaf- list. If I brows the list I even found some mails in the last few days. What am I doing wrong? Oh yes I am logged at the leaf site so that's not it. Re: [Leaf-user] connect to PPTP server through EigerStein lrp (newbie)
Aanhalen Mark Risher <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: If I am not mistaken (and I am not often :-)) Charles has a readily available VPNMasq enabled kernel and matching modules at his site. Check http://lrp.steinkuehler.net and search for the Kernels & modules part. TopLeft there is a link. There you should find everything you need to get VPN working.
