You can try going to the linux documentation site to see if the card is

Second, you have to unpack it and then either compile or run the

should then put the resulting files in a directory called

Umm...afaik, the lanuage used in the original email IS
correct. Why doesn't it work? One of several answers --
1) The memory is flaky and therefore not reporting the

something configured wrong in your BIOS causing the
motherboard to report the wrong memory size.
Regarding option #3: On most motherboards these days,
there's an option for a non-os/2 operating system. Make

To test your settings, type "startx" from the command line,

startx -- -bpp 16 (16-bit color)
or
startx -- -bpp 24 (24-bit color)
or
startx -- -bpp 32 (32-bit color)

Since I start my machines at the console and then start the

Basically there is a problem with SOME messages causing the

resetting it to a more conservative setting, such as 40-80kHz and

and Finaly, do we realy need 3 or 4 partitions on the hard

Well, lemme put it this way -- when you do a "fresh install" do you
want to lose everything in your user directory or in the /usr/local
directory tree? If you install it all on one big partition, that's
what will likely happen. Also, if you have a large hard drive, the
kernel MAY not always be within the first 1024 cylinders of your hard
drive, which means your system won't boot. There's a VERY good reason
for having 3-4 partitions on the hard drive!

First off you need to set your Groupwise client to word-wrap. Many of

The "standard" is 70-75 characters per line. :-)
Second, what video card do you have? I'm guessing it's one of the
ones for which you need to add the "noaccel" line in your

Now, as to where to find the Voodoo3 drivers, have you
tried looking on the SuSE site? I'm told that that's *the*
place to get video drivers. That's www.suse.de, I think. To

directory, about a dozen or so. These were in rpm format.
I'm *guessing* you got the wrong version of the KDE RPMs.
Next time you might try using RPMfind.net to find the
MANDRAKE 6.x KDE 1.1.2 updates, or go to
www.linux-mandrake.com to find the list of mirrors and find
the RPM files there.
I'm guessing what happened is you have the RH 5.x KDE
updates instead of the RH 6.x KDE updates. RH 6.x was the
first RedHat version to incorporate the KDE desktop, etc
and there is a HUGE difference as to where the KDE files
are put when they are installed via RPM.
Here's an FTP site for Mandrake updates:
ftp.linux-mandrake.com/pub/updates/6.0/RPMS/

Try doing and rpm -e kde* and then an RPM -UVH kde* once
you download all the MANDRAKE KDE updates.

Mandrake 6.x does not install the telnet SERVER RPM by default. Get

There are four runlevels you need to keep in mind: RunLevel 1 which
is a single-user, no network, no GUI boot up. Run Level 3 which is a
multi-user, networked boot up, and Run Level 5 which is the GUI,
multi-user boot up. Now, these are different for each distribution of

fails and you can get a command prompt, but need to shut things down,
you can init 6 and reboot. :-)
