World Photo Day and the September PUG
G'day all Just a bit of advance warning for September. World Photo Day is August 19 - see: http://worldphotoday.com/ As in 2015, for the September PUG you need to take a photo - any photo - on August 19, your local time. So, if you want to participate in September, drag out your Pentax gear on August 19 (expect some nagging as that date approaches...). Well that solder joint idea that you and PJ mentioned is intriguing - I was jsut sort of interested in it turning out to be something that is , as they say today, "a thing". I have left it on radio since I wrote earlier - and just now I popped in a cassette and it played. There could be a cold break in a solder joint. The electronics don't need to warm up but the break in the joint needs to warm up to make contact. It's unlikely but not impossible. Re: OT: Windoze 10 Re-ducks
When I wrote that yesterday, I wasn't having problems, I was just amused by how slowly it was going. I wasn't any more pissed off at Microsoft than usual ... yesterday. Today, I think Microsoft has reached a new low. This morning it's "We couldn't Install Windows 10". So, maybe now I AM having troubles. "The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP operation" & an error [0xC1900101-0x30018] that's not listed in the "Troubleshooting Tips" webpage that message links to. I've been searching the web for answers & Microsoft's response in every forum where I've found the error listed is "Good luck! Come back & let us know if you find a solution." Windoze 10 looks like it's going to be a bigger POS than Vista or Windoze 8. All the hype surrounding Windoze 10 stresses how easy & convenient it is to "upgrade" & use. I've successfully installed Windoze 10 on one of three computers; 33% success rate. That is double-plus NOT good. Thanks for looking and commenting, Ann. The fawns are usually quite jumpy. It was hot and humid at the time, and I suppose that played a part in their decision to stay there a while before letting my offensive presence drive them away. Re: OT : A puzzlement - regarding my EMerson radio/cd/cassette player - any ideas?
Ann, that is very strange indeed. As a former physics major who used to tinker with radio broad casting and transmitting equipment, as well as radio receivers, I can think of no credible explanation. Have there been any recent alien abductions reported in the Village lately? The only solution I can think of is trow away the radio and get an iPhone. "Apparently they can be mounted in front of ordinary photographic lenses for more magnification and enabling of camera electronics." If set up vertically, it becomes a digital microscope. The thread on microscope objectives is pretty standard, old DIN designation. Pentax has an M-series microscope adapter with the same thread. Mounts straight on a bellows or a camera.
