Fixed in 2.53.3b1 and up.

It is being uploaded right now. If you need it urgently should work but I
didn't verify the packages:

Do a profile backup but my upgrades from 2.53.2 went smooth. ewong said he

Yes, that can happen.

So I (Windows user) first try the installer of a particular new 2.53 daily. Of
course before testing I backup my User Profile (simple .zip) and do first steps
with a test profile, not with my user profile.

If everything works fine for me after 2 ... 3 days of testing with my normal

Tests of further 2.53 dailies with downloaded .ZIPs.

At least they claim not to support that old.

I've found that with spoofing, that if I give a site a UA string showing Gecko
60 or 68 from Seamonkey 2.49.5, I generally don't have problems. If I have
problems, it's far more likely to be other tweaking that I've done, such
blocking stuff with NoScript and/or uBlock Origin, blocking tracking, refusing
third-party cookies, etc.

I'm sure that there's sites out there that really require something newer than
Gecko 52, but I think that they're very few, and I can't remember seeing them.

Where I've seen sites complaining about Seamonkey 2.49.5/Gecko 52 is usually
coming from scripting that's doing UA sniffing.  With NoScript active, I rarely
see any of that, because the scripts never run (and can't check).  There are a
handful of sites that won't give me what I want without enabling the scripting
that does sniffing, and for that, spoofing generally does what I need.

For sites, the issue is generally not that they *can't* handle Gecko 52, so much as it is that they want users running newer browsers, because older ones do have known security holes in them.  Unfortunately, the number of Seamonkey users is small enough that at sites doing checking, the owners don't know (or don't care) that Seamonkey is actively being maintained, despite showing Gecko 52.  I've noted before that I see that happening most often with sites for financial providers.  For good measure, the
people providing help at various sites are likely to demand specific browsers (and versions), because it streamlines the support process (again, financial providers are the most aggressive).  For Seamonkey, they don't care that it's a functional equivalent, just that the different UI layout is enough that they don't want to be bothered with trying to figure out where a particular setting is.

All that said, I do know that if I'm spoofing, it's definitely possible that
the site really does require something specific to Gecko 60, but that's on me,
and I'm not going to go to the site's support and complain that things aren't
working because of how I'm using Seamonkey.  If I'm having problems, I can
either go to a profile where the only tweak I make is for spoofing, or I can
launch Firefox from a profile that doesn't have a lot of tweaking.

Currently most issues are because of bad user agent sniffing or deliberate
shutting out of non major browsers. Even SeaMonkey 9.99 won't help here.

I take from the message that the mail is getting out of the building but
the Charter sever does not know who we are.  I can send at my account on
the Charter WEB site.

Below are the current/long time in/out settings and current suggested by
Charter.

mail.charter.net 110
smtp.charter.net 587

Suggested:
imap.mobile.charter.net 993
mobile.charter.net 587

pop.gmail.com 995
smtp.gmail.com 465

pop.mail.yahoo.com 995
smtp.mail.yahoo.com 465
also pop.att.yahoo.com 995
also smtp.att.yahoo.com 465

Gmail works OK in and out.  It uses the gmail outgoing server.

Trying to send from yahoo uses whatever sever is listed as default.  But
password fails. "Login to server smtp.att.yahoo.com failed."  "Enter new
password"

Sending from gmail to yahoo gets to yahoo on-line account.

Trying to DL from yahoo gets:

"Sending of password for user raydav94 did not succeed. Mail server
pop.mail.yahoo.com responded: Server error - Please try again later."

Anyone have any help for yahoo?

I charter tech and his supervisor said we ran a test, found no trouble,
therefore you need to talk to Mozilla to fix their sync.  They changed
my password so as to access my account to conduct the test.  They left
their password in and did not tell me what it was.

A call to another tech fixed my password and had the opinion that the
issue was the charter server, but being on the front lines had no access
to that part of the system but would try to contact some one.

Any suggestions?

TY
Ray

I have a suspicion, but you'll have to test to see if it's valid.

I understand that you have several Charter mail accounts, let's call
them raydav@c***er.net, rayswife@c***er.net, and rayskid@c***er.net just
for the sake of discussion. You have them all set to use the same SMTP
server, smtp.charter.net, which authenticates with the user account
raydav@c***er.net. My suspicion is that Charter changed their server
settings to require the full email address and not just the prefix when
authenticating outgoing mail.

If you check the settings for their SMTP server under "Mail & Newsgroups
Account Settings," you might find that you've been using the prefix only
(raydav), which used to work, and not the full email address
(raydav@c***er.net) which they just started requiring. That would cause
everyone who tries to authenticate as "raydav" to be blocked. So I would
suggest as a first attempt that you enter the full address in your SMTP
server settings and see if that works.

A second possibility is that they now want raydav@c***er.net to
authenticate as raydav@c***er.net, rayswife@c***er.net to authenticate
as rayswife@c***er.net, and rayskid@c***er.net to authenticate as
rayskid@c***er.net. In that case, you'd have to set up three separate
SMTP servers in SeaMonkey, one for each user. But I rather doubt this
because then only the others should be blocked and you should still be
able to send.

Sorry for the wordy message. Hope it helps.

Before sending, take a close look at your From E-mail address and also
which account is selected. I encounter your problem with Thunderbird if
I try to send E-mail with a From address for one account while another
account is selected.

For example, I see a newsgroup message that I want to send to (not reply
to) my daughter. I select my prinary E-mail account and start composing
a message to her. I then go back to the newsgroup account to copy the
newsgroup message, which I paste into the E-mail message. Then I select
Send. Boom! It is rejected because I am in a newsgroup account and not
in an E-mail account.

I think I have also encountered the opposite, trying to copy an E-mail
message into a newsgroup reply. I select Send while still in the E-mail
account when I should be in the newsgroup account.

Re: Email issues

2019-12-07 Thread Paul Bergsagel

Hi Ray,

All I can think of is to create a new user profile with a new email
account and if this works you will know something has changed (or is
corrupted) in your old user profile.

You might download the Thunderbird email program and set up a new email
account as Thunderbird and SeaMonkey share the same email code. I hope
you can locate the source of the problem.

Sending from gmail to yahoo gets to yahoo on-line account.

Trying to DL from yahoo gets:

I don't have any suggestions. However I can give you one data point on
what works.

My system is a laptop running the i386 flavor of Debian 9 with MATE
desktop. SeaMonkey reports:

   User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101
   Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.1
I was downloaded from https://www.seamonkey-project.org/

When I _initially_ loaded the site I got a well formed page asking to
enable cookies. As I routinely do random browsing with JavaScript
disabled I went to edit my preferences to enable JavaScript to see if
that could cause the problem. Found that JavaScript was enabled - couple
hours ago I had gone to a NOAA site that can not display tabular data
without it. I disabled it. The only apparent problem was the inability
to load some graphics.

I exited SeaMonkey completely. I restarted SM and went to the site (JS
and cookies disabled) it displayed main page (*NO* cookie request).

I powered down both my computer and my T-mobile hotspot - intention to
force a different URL. With both JS and cookies disabled I got to the
homepage with *NO* request to enable cookies. Does not sound kosher.

That did not sound good :<

Went to
[https://validator.w3.org/check?uri=www.drivethrurpg.com%2F=%28detect+automatically%29=Inline=0]
see if there were site problems.

The response was:

Errors found while checking this document as HTML 4.01 Transitional!
Result: 235 Errors, 168 warning(s)

I wouldn't report any problems on your end with THAT site.

I would suggest visiting https://validator.w3.org/ for any other site
with which you have problems ;/

That site is malformed and TRACKING you by means other than cookies!

YMMV ;/
HTH :)

I believe some sites just want the "Firefox/52.0" bit (i.e. no
mention what-so-ever of SM), or want the FF version to be that last
bit of the UA String. And some sites are rejecting the
"Firefox/52.0" bit in any case, because FF 52 is getting old. I
think SM 2.49.3 is based, sort of, on FF 54 or 55.

I think Firefox 52 is correct for SeaMonkey 2.49.x

Yes, but I think the 'x' part makes SM equivalent to later FF versions,
e.g. back in simpler days, SM 2.45 (say) was equivalent to FF (2 + 45 +
1) = FF 48, SM 2.49 was equivalent to FF (2 + 49 + 1) = FF 52, so, *I'm
guessing* SM 2.49.3 might be equivalent to FF (2 + 49 + 3 + 1) = FF 55
or so!!

I know that it is possible to add a line to your Prefs so that you
can have a UA which is only sent to, in your case, ebay.com, but I
don't know how to do that or what its content should be, maybe same
as your current UA but make it, say, "Firefox/60" or something.

The preference would be, for example:
general.useragent.override.ebay.com and set to the full user-agent

string which would need to be used, e.g.: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT
10.0; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 (yes, the same as
with "Advertise Firefox compatibility" enabled but without the
"Seamonkey/*" part).

However, a few points with doing that:

- Ebay might block you from doing certain things as it looks like
you're using an outdated version of Firefox.

- However, that's the Firefox version that your version of SeaMonkey
is based on, so if you set it to a newer version they might try using
features not supported in your version of SeaMonkey (so other things
 might break).

- You'll need to manually update that preference every time you
update SeaMonkey, if you want to be presenting the correct Firefox
version.

- You might also need to set overrides for other domains they load
content from (e.g. ebaystatic.com), but working out what those are

can be tricky.

Just as I type this, I recall you used to be able to add prefs to
SeaMonkey (or was it Mozilla Suite or Netscape Suite) by creating a

Plain Text file called User.js (in the same location as your
prefs.js file) using a plain text editor like NotePad or WordPad,
but I'm not at all sure if this is still possible in SeaMonkey!

I'm pretty sure setting preferences that way has been mentioned on
these newsgroups relatively recently, so probably still supported. I
don't do it that way myself though (I just set preferences via
about:config), so can't say for certain.

Oh!! O.K!

Thank you again, it does not work now, it did work about 90 days ago
when I last listed on eBay.

I do not know what could have happened to uncover this issue.

A few possibilities:

- You upgraded your browser

- You changed some option (possibly to fix an issue with a different site)

- There's something different about those photos than ones you've
successfully uploaded before (larger, different camera, edited with
different software, saved with different options, etc.)

- Ebay changed something about their site (next in line if none of the
above are true)

- Updates to Windows, Antivirus software, ad-blocker blacklists, or
something else not obviously related (probably unlikely, but you never
know...)

- Various other possibilities which don't occur to me off the top of my head

thank you again for your input and assistance.

bo1953

O.K., what to try now?? I see from your User Agent, you have enabled the
"Advertise FireFox Compatibility" at Edit->Preferences->Advanced->HTTP
Networking in the "User Agent String".

It might also be worth trying to disable that option. I've come across a
few sites (mainly Google, but there may be others) which break with
SeaMonkey set to "Advertise Firefox compatibility" but work with it
disabled (so that Firefox doesn't appear in the user-agent string).

If you have the Lightning extension installed, also disable "Advertise
Lightning installation" on the same page. I've had that cause problems
before as well.

This adds the FF version to the
User Agent String so that yours now shows as

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101
  Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.3

Do you have JavaScript disabled? I don't know about Ebay, but I've come
across some sites which seem to need JavaScript to load images.

Do you use any extensions which might block some content, particularly
script- or ad-blockers (e.g. NoScript, AdBlockPlus, uBlock, etc.)

Do you allow cookies? Allowing them to be stored for the current session
only is usually OK, but if they're blocked completely that can break things.

Try clearing your cache (Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Cache > Clear
Cache) and deleting all cookies relating to Ebay domains (Tools > Data
Manager). Sometimes websites seem to get modified in such a way that
they work with the browser in a clean state but break if you have cached
content or cookies left from the previous version.

Does it work in "safe mode" (Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled)? That
gives the option of making some changes permanent, but you may not want
to do that immediately - just see if safe mode helps first.

to be able to resolve and hope someone here can assist.

1) when linking to photos to be uploaded, all are blacked out, after
uploading, still blacked out no idea as what is causing this to
happen, can see photos clearly and correctly in File Explorer (can
complete in Chrome); and

2) When uploading photos, in SM the system is stuck in a loop and will
not upload in basic tool template...

Even when using Default User Agent, the issues are similar.

Suggestions or ideas as to what can be done to solve this?

TIA - bo1953

Bo, check your settings at Edit->Prefs->Privacy & Security->Images and
check your "Image Acceptance Policy".

Some time ago, I was shopping on Amazon.ca or Ebay.ca and couldn't click
the "check out" button because there wasn't one, 'cause it came from a
US server, and I had selected to only load images from the originating
server.

You live, You learn!!

Daniel,

Thank you for the input.

I have checked the permissions and it is checked for Load all images and
As many times as the image specifies.

Thank you again,

bo1953

Email Issues

2018-05-30 Thread Dan Wong
Support,

I have been using SeaMonkey for my browser and email for almost 20 years. I
believe I am on version 2.48.

I had been using GoDaddy to host my marketing consulting website, etc. I
recently retired and closed down my website but kept my domain names
(omniface.com & wonguniverse.com), just in case retirement didn't work out. For
some savings I just moved from my existing email servers to their Office 365
exchange server after GoDaddy assured me there would be no complications.
However, it was naive of me and I find that the folders I had originally set up
have not automatically set up in the new email when I retrieve. The contents,
apparently, do still exist as I can access them via browser, but all attempts
to try and create folders/sub-folders do not seem to work.

GoDaddy techs tell me that there probably is a way to instruct SeaMonkey to
treat the Office 365 server as IMAP and fix things. I would like to continue
using SeaMonkey for my email, as you can imagine, I am comfortable and quite
settled. I am being pushed to use Outlook, unless you can offer a solution.
Please tell me that there is a fix. Thanks.

Hi guys,

I use Thunderbird and Firefox, but wish to try Seamonkey as an all in

allow passwords to be entered. The "next" button not working.

Is there a fix for this coming, as per Thunderbird?

The latest version of Reminderfox is 2.1.5.6 released June 26, 2017.

Is that the version you have?

Do you need to convert it for use in SeaMonkey?

have on my laptop with Ubuntu and Reminderfox won't connect yet still

The "userContent.css" workaround I've suggested I've already seen
implemented in 2.49 (couldn't find the original Bug 1288911 previously).
SeaMonkey 2.49 (Gecko 52) is also the version which fixes one of the
most annoying SeaMonkey 2.x Mail bugs for me:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456053

Note, this is still an issue in SeaMonkey 2.46 where some sort of
workaround is to use HTML composition, and then send in plain text.
This could often lead to unexpected transformations, however.

I have seen this problem for many years, in both Netscape Communicator
and Thunderbird (including the latest TBird version 45.5.1).

The problem is with the E-mail application that sent the message to you.
It sent wrapped lines that are too long. The lines often become too
long when a quoted message with only > is again quoted in a reply with

and then quoted again with >>>.

E-mail? It's not just e-mail. Also, newsgroups. It's really bad in v2.46
compared to earlier versions. Look at this post! :(

It's because it's Base 64.

Content-Transfer-Encoding: BASE64

When you display inline SeaMonkey decodes the Base 64 for you. When it
is an attachment you need to provide your own decoder:

How I solved this in Windows 2.46:

Go to Edit > Preferences > Browser > Internet Search

Click on Manage Search Engines...

Delete every option but your search engine of choice in the pick-list. That engine
will be the new default.

Clicking on Restore Defaults, afterwards, will restore the list but won't change the

Breaks the header pane...

Incompatible with Lightning?

Disabling Lightning doesn't help :-(

Maybe Mnenhy is just not compatible with SM 2.46?

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/mnenhy/
says Works with Thunderbird 3.0 - 29.0a1

If anyone is using that extension on SM 2.46 or higher,
I'm all ears.

Last Updated: February 25, 2014

Probably broken by the upgrade tread-mill :-(

I used it for Message-ID Search and Custom Headers/X-Faces.

Any other extension supporting those features?

Regards.

Probably just a dead and unsupported add-on.

It is likely that the original author has stopped working on that
add-on. However, someone else picked up the ball:

https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=26256#c2
https://bitbucket.org/stanio/mnenhy/downloads

Here are the differences between
mnenhy-0.8.6-fx+tb+sm.zip (the original from amo)
and
mnenhy-0.8.6.1.2-stanio.zip (the update from stanio)

https://pastebin.mozilla.org/8930566

Same diff, ignoring white-space changes and lines starting
with "let", "var", or "const"

https://pastebin.mozilla.org/8930568

Ratty and frg said the changes are just syntactic.

Regards.

Would this breakage have anything to do with the fact that the XUL/XPCOM
SDK is being deprecated in the near future? I am writing/maintaining a
similar add-on (to display Face/X-Face/etc. headers in the header area),
and I think that my add-on will most likely break soon too.

That also happens in SM 2.47 (64 bit). Build identifier: 20161201025712
No matter what search engine is selected or moved to the "top"
duckduck takes over.

mnenhy 0.8.6.1.h2 works for me in SM 2.46

Basically, I'm satisfied with the 2.40 to 2.46 upgrade on
Windows. I'll give the Linux upgrade another try.

Maybe there is no need to find alternatives for mnenhy.

Independently, two developers have provided an updated
(unofficial) forked version:

By Hartmut Figge -- pointed out by Mc in #seamonkey
http://www.triffids.de/pub/mnenhy/0.8.6.1.h2/

By Stanimir Stamenkov -- via

I will test Hartmut's version (hopefully today).

It is likely that the original author has stopped working on that
add-on. However, someone else picked up the ball:

https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=26256#c2
https://bitbucket.org/stanio/mnenhy/downloads

Here are the differences between
mnenhy-0.8.6-fx+tb+sm.zip (the original from amo)
and
mnenhy-0.8.6.1.2-stanio.zip (the update from stanio)

https://pastebin.mozilla.org/8930566

Same diff, ignoring white-space changes and lines starting
with "let", "var", or "const"

https://pastebin.mozilla.org/8930568

Ratty and frg said the changes are just syntactic.

Delete all the search engines in the pick list but the one you want. That becomes

If this bug is ever fixed, Restore Defaults will restore all choices, so nothing

Setting the default search engine no longer works. Its gone and always mirrors
the
current search engine. This is a known problem and tracked in Bug 1265881:

Mnenhy is incompatible with 2.46. The author no longer seems to update the

Re: SeaMonkey 2.39 beta GTK3 issues

2015-10-09 Thread Exalm

Adrian Kalla пишет:

At the end we have some annoying GTK3 issues that somehow do hit just us
and not Fx mentioned in the thread "2.40a1 missing scrollbar indicator
arrow buttons": <prodntuuf79h5w7inz2dnuu7-qwdn...@mozilla.org>

They aren't displayed because certain (although most) GTK3 themes
request not to display them.
On Firefox that's expected behavior, but on SM there's also Modern
theme, which should display them even in that case.

Other issues don't hit Fx because they use much less native styling, so
the issues (such as the bugged tabs) just aren't visible as much as they
are on SM.

Hmm! Cannot see 2.39 listed on

Maybe here:

Hmmm, maybe ewong was talking about self-compiled builds?
Or mine that I post here:
https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/unofficial/seamonkey/nightly/

Or the tinderbox builds here:
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/tinderbox-builds/comm-beta-linux/

Ah!! Right.

I thought Nightlies were alpha, aurora is beta, beta is release
candidate and release usually ticks off a portion of users.

Yes. See "2.40a1 missing scrollbar indicator arrow buttons" thread, all
these issues are also applicable to 2.39.

Basically:
1. Active tab is invisible on some themes.
2. Scrollbar arrows don't display borders, and most GTK3 themes don't
display them at all.
3. GTK theme switching is completely broken, you'll have to restart SM
every time.

Another issue isn't mentioned there: ThreeDShadow and ThreeDHighlight
colors are same, so all themes that heavily use them (basically all
Default-based themes) are broken.
