Setting up the capital pitch
Hi: I might be getting ome pitch change in Eloquence for caps but nothing that jumps out at me and I don't think much better than the free synth I was dissatisfied with. I fired up jaws, using eloquence from what I have heard, and the pitch, and perhaps the volume of capitalized letters and words was significantly better and diferent tonally. So I am leaning twoard the fact that this is controlled by windoweyes and that the settings are not very good. How do I increase the pitch and, or, volume of cap letters when reading either by letter, word or even in read to end to something that is obvious and perhaps the tone as well. WindowEyes Not Speaking first letter of words
When right arrowing over characters in a sentence if I move quickly with the right arrow key, the first letter of a word is not spoken if the prior character is a space. Caps Pitch Control
Hi Steve: There should be a way to control the pitch change for capital letters me thinks. I havent found it in WindowEyes Settings yet though. Some speech operations are still slightly sluggish even with Eloquence which I have to attribute to WindowEyes itself from past experience. That said I am asking about how to improve the speech settings including the pitch change for capitalization - I am pretty sure that is doable but not sure WindowEyes has a setting to do it, we will see. I just dropped 40 bucks to get Eloquence so I hope WindowEyes takes advantage of its feature set. The slight lag times are annoying but not so bad that I will dump WindowEyes all be it I am disapointed so far with WindowEyes performance with a hot synth like Eloquence. But, as mentioned, I will ask on list how to tweak settings to see if I can get things working well enough to not be a constant hassle using WindowEyes. Wish I could have given WindowEyes and Eloquence a glowing congratulations out of the box but it is what it is. Hi Rick, It is not possible to change the level of pitch for capital letters. We offer the 60 day evaluation version so people can have access to everything Window-eyes has to offer, including the premium synthesizers. If the pitch change isn't enough, perhaps installing the third party cap beeper app. https://www.gwmicro.com/App_Central/Apps/Download/?scriptid=1216 This makes a beep when you move across a capital letter. Hui, Assuming the Flash itself is accessible (most Flash is not) it is supported out of browse mode. As for XP we do not go out of our way to block it in 9.0 or 9.1 but we also do not support it or test with it. Meaning use at your own risk but to be honest, from the feedback I've been hearing it still works as it did. But again, our support department will not provide any support for XP. Dennis, We are continuing to work with Google as most of the Chrome issues we know about need to be resolved on the Chrome side itself. We have great communication with Google and they are very eager to resolve the issues. So this is certainly a work in progress. RE: Caps Pitch Control
I have the caps beeper working. It is too loud and giving me a headache after only a few minutes of beeping. It is better than your other option of saying the word cap and not reading the following letter without a significant lag. I did not see a way to turn down the volume of the beep, is there one? None of this carp would be necessary if WindowEyes just handled capitalization pitch settings properly as other screen readers do. So how do I turn down the beep compared to the we speech? If I can turn it down a bunch it might be acceptible all be it a work-around rather than fixing the problem correctly. RE: Caps Pitch Control
I, too, have found that the elevation of the voice pitch was unsatisfactory, but it's also true that the elevation of the pitch seems to depend on which letter is the one capitalized. I'm sure that somewhere in the lines of code that controls the synthesizer, there has to have been a parameter that causes the pitch to shift, so it has to be possible to change that parameter. Perhaps it would take the owners of Eloquence to do it, but I'm betting it wouldn't take a whole lot of effort to accomplish it. Do you think it might be worth writing to them? RE: Getting Eloquence
Hi and thanks. I llistened to it, downloaded the word doc, turned off the protected mode and saved it to test file. Then I went through it one step at a time tweaking each step according to my situation and managed to get Eloquence installed. To my dismay the problem appears to be related to WindowEyes and not to the synth. Since I am out of the 60 day free trial I am out 40 bucks and will have to rely on the beeper app someone, Vick I think, created to uplift the WindowEyes failure of using a pitch change to indicate capitalization - that is there is no way to increase capital pitch in WindowEyes. Anyway, I finally got Eloquence installed after jumping through all the hoops but it appears a waste due to how WindowEyes interacts with it. RE: Caps Pitch Control
Hi Louis: You are right about individual letters being more and less recognizible as caps via pitch in WindowEyes. I am not sure if the cap pitch is a standard feature of a synth but I know both jaws and NVDA have settings to adjust the cap pitch up or down. They also have 0 lag time for this feature as far as I can tell. I am currently using the beeper visual basic script developed by some user who also likely had this problem with WindowEyes. It is not a good solution but the best work-around for this WindowEyes problem I have found so far. There might be a way to script an actual pitch change but I really don't like using let alone createing visual basic scripts to run on something I want to be as high performing as my screen reader. So unless Aaron and the guys get around to adding this to match NVDA and JAWS features we areSOL. Just use the beeper app and have allot of tylenol on hand. If I can turn the volume downon the beep it might be ok but I sure don't look forward to 10 hours a day of that noise while trying to do computer design, programming and testing debugging while using camel casing variables and objects. So that is the state of affairs as I find them so far. I have other options for programming and have been using them in place of WindowEyes more and more over the past year or so. I had hoped for this and some other performance enhancements in the 9.1 release but it seems this feature was passed over by the AI Squared staff. The slight lag times are annoying but not so bad that I will dump WindowEyes all be it I am disapointed so far with WindowEyes performance with a hot synth like Eloquence. Re: Caps Pitch Control
Rick, Sorry. But if you don't want VBScripts, for whatever reason, remember that you can use any other Com-supporting scripting language for scripting WE. You state you are doing computer development, so should not be much for you to script what you want. The CapBeeper script - I do believe - even is open sourced, so you could easily look at how they have solved the issue, and transfer it into a scripting system you would so greatly accept. If you just get yourself around it, it should be no trouble to make whatever pitch change you want. It even may be possible to change the actual Eloquence voice, that would be used for the capitals. I just don't see what you expect to accomplish. If you are a developer, then develop your script the way you want it. If you don't, then stick with what apps are available. What in the world is so wrong with a tiny VBScript, only a few lines long? And if none of that serves, then I could suggest to install the GWAudiokit app, and script something that would make use of it, since that will let you adjust the volume of any beeping sounds your app is going to make. Sorry, but there is not much other to provide you at this moment. If you want further scripting discussion, please take the issue to the Scripting list. You there might be able to pick up some good advice. Yet, they likely will ask you to start out with the CapBeeper anyway, if for nothing else, then at least to learn what is included. I am sure, several of the developers of apps for WE would like to help you out. But most of us are doing VBScripting, and you so thouroughly have made it clear that you don't want VBScripts. In effect, you have blocked many of us from offering to compile something that could have helpd you out. Again, I do not want to argue you. Simply just trying to point out to you, that you have been provided all current solutions. None of that served you, and I do understand that it would be great had WE offered some further settings in this regard. Hopefully AISquared could put that on the wishlist for furture releases. Meanwhile, if you want someone to assist with a script for the feature you are asking, take it to the Scripting list, and likely accept VBScripts. If you want, go ahead and construct your own script for the job. Inside an app, it is absolutely not difficult to adjust the pitch, of any voice that supports pitching. Eloquence is good in that regard, and like I said, you can even use one of the alternative Eloquence voices (like Sandy) for the purpose. It will provide a clearly distinct voice for the job. You then let it act upon any capital letter that is about to be spoken. In basic, what the CapBeeper is doing, just you change the voice instead of beeping. All of that is far too techie for this list, so go to the Scripting list for more details. Hope you get a solution that serves your needs. RE: Caps Pitch Control
Rick, While I agree with you that being able to increase the level of pitch on capital letters, I have found the pitch to be useable. Sometimes the first lowercase after an uppercase letter has not returned to the lower pitch if I type it fast, but using the arrow keys to review it allows me to check for certain. When experimenting with other screen readers, I have found that setting the level two high seems to cause delays, or the pitch will be sliding down when I type the first lowercase letter after an uppercase letter. I find that annoying as well. I'm not convinced that the answer you are looking for is as perfect as you might think it is. In addition, when a percentage is given by some screen readers, you are going to find that the percentage doesn't always mean much. Some synthesizers have only so many pitch settings that can be accessed. Therefore, you can find that changing from a 20% increase to a 25% increase doesn't do anything. Regarding Eloquence's responsiveness, I cannot type fast enough to get ahead of Eloquence. It seems to me that there may still be another issue for you, or possibly a setting that can be changed. Particularly on laptops, sound card settings can have an impact on the responsiveness of a synthesizer. It is usually recommended that you turn off any special processing that might be in effect on your sound card, including equalization. However, on my HP laptop, there is a Beats Audio mode that tailors the sound for headphones or the internal speakers, and I don't notice any change in responsiveness whether that is on or off. There can be a slower response of Window-Eyes in certain software and if certain other things are happening. This is usually not connected to a specific synthesizer, though, and I've noticed some variability with the JAWS demo and NVDA as well. Again, I'm not saying what you want isn't a good idea, but if you generally like Window-Eyes, I'm not sure that changing screen readers for the cap pitch adjustment will be as nice as you might think it is. Also, there may still be things you can do to improve Eloquence's response. RE: Caps Pitch Control
Hi Again David: i have done some scripting for WindowEyes in the past and found it a most painful experience compared to working in a Full blown Programming Language. I have created scripts for Visual Studio and even a script, app, to automatically convert all UI text elements of any script into any foreign language supported by Microsoft. I have built both VbScripts and External Scripts but as mentioned found the experience both frustrating and painfully slow including the process of analyzing third party dom models for scripting. I can either do programming in my chosen platform and get real work done or spend the time slogging through creating a script to fix a weakness or problem(s) with WindowEyes. I don't expect WindowEyes to be perfect but at least have the features and performance of its competition and especially those of the free screen readers out there. You know I have some experience, been on the scripting list for what 10 years now, so your suggestion is almost an insult to me knowing full well I could script something if I had the time and needed to do it. I really don't have the time since I am deep into a project that involves a huge platform, very complex technicals including parallel processing, database design testing and implementation, dynamically allocated plug-ins, dynamic UI elements, Task Management, external processes, and a host of other lengthly and complicated cutting edge materials not to mention thousands and thousands of lines of code that needs to be brought up to date, streamlined and documented to modern standards. Now, if you want to take over this project I will take a few weeks off and create a script or 2 in vb script or another WindowEyes language to change the pitch of capital letters and perhaps fix a couple of other problems. Then, if they didn't impact performance negatively I could even send you a copy for your personal use - what do you think? RE: Right Arrow Problem in WE 9.1
Hi Lou, If I press the home key to move to the beginning of the line where the word "tes" is located, the cursor will be on the first "t" in tes. If I then press right arrow, the cursor moves to the "e" and reads "t", which is the prior key after the cursor has moved. At least that is how it has always been. In WE 9.1 the computer beeps on the first press of right arrow and reads the "t" on the second press of right arrow. At that point the cursor is on the "e" in test as it should be. In other words, the first press of right arrow does nothing. At 11:46 PM 3/5/2015, you wrote: My right arrow cursoring key is set to character after and it works as I would expect. I havent worked with the scripting model in several years and would have a steep learning curve for the WE Object Model again and if it would take you no time to do why don't you just create a quick one and be the scriptor of record for a solution that several folks would appreciate. It would take me allot longer given the fact I would have to ReLearn the scripting Object Model and review the vb scripting syntax as well as use of the WE Platform Development model all while working outside the Development Platform I am accustomed to. But you could throw a couple of lines of code together in what, half an hour to solve this problem? If so it may have been faster to develop a script and post up an answer to my posting rather than the time it took you to type that lengthly rant about me being able to develop a script in a few lines in a few minutes. I wasn't sure but, Ya, I am insulted at your posting indeed and you hurt my feelings. Re: wlm and 9.1
I had selected two-line view a long time ago, because somebody said that is how to get to read it all, but when I asked why it read it in a different order, I was told to select one-line view. It changed the order to what it used to be before I got windows 7 and windows live mail. So I have had it on one-line view for a while now. I have ran this security system and no it isn't very accessible. I have the gentleman who does my computer work help me with it when it needs updated. Once it is set up you really don't need to do anything since it runs totally in the background as I understand. One thing I will say is that I have had this package on my system since the summer of 2012 and have never been bothered with any sort of viruses spyware or even much in the way of anoying popups. So if you can keep it updated I think you will like it since it is very low maintenance. Just my two sense worth for whatever that might be worth. Re: Please help!
Please keep in mind that this kind of email does not mean that there is an intrusion. Sometimes when one sets up a new device to get mail from GMAIL this gets triggered, particularly if one is in a different location. Sometimes you simply have to log into GMail using the web and follow some instructions that verifies that the activity is all right. For example, I got this message when I set up my cellphone to receive a GMail account. If you have not set up any new devices or computers to receive mail from the particular GMail account, then it is probably a very good idea to change your password because someone might be messing with the account. However, if you just tried setting up another computer or other device to get mail from the affected account, then you probably don't need to change the password, just log into GMail on the web. Also, the location given isn't necessarily going to be where you are but may relate to an IP address. Hi after upgrading my window-eyes this morning. My read and unread status doesn't read in windows live mail either. I even changed from two line view to single line view. And that didn't fix anything. Also I disabled the windows live mail app also with know change either. So how do you fix this/ It worked just fine before the upgrade to 9.1. Even better, get Chrome here www.ninite.com/chrome or check the Chrome check box on the main Ninite website and click get installer button. The last computer I had, Chrome could not work at all; it would simply crash. Hope it works on my new computer since I have Chrome on my mac and it's a good browser, especially if it has in-built flash. > On 6 Mar 2015, at 17:18, Chris Grabowski via Talk > wrote: > > Hello, > If you are running 9.1 you'll just download and install Chrome. > > You can download it from: > http://chrome.google.com > > > After doing that Chrome should just work. > > Thanks, > Chris > > > Window-Eyes Product Support > Ai Squared > 725 Airport North Office Park > Fort Wayne, IN 46825 > (802) 362-3612 > www.aisquared.com > > -Original Message- > From: Talk > [mailto:talk-bounces+cgrabowski=aisquared@lists.window-eyes.com] On > Behalf Of Trent Fogle via Talk > Sent: Friday, March 06, 2015 11:55 AM > To: talk@lists.window-eyes.com > Subject: How can I set up Google Chrome to be totally accessible. > > Hello. > Chris from Aisquared please forgive me if you were still going to send me the > directions on how to set up Chrome. > Please don't think I'm inpatient. > But if anybody else has any other ideas on how to set it up to be totally > accessible especially for the totally blind, that would be appreciated too. > Thanks. > Trent Fogle. > ___ > Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author > and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. > > For membership options, visit > http://lists.window-eyes.com/options.cgi/talk-window-eyes.com/cgrabowski%40aisquared.com. > For subscription options, visit > http://lists.window-eyes.com/listinfo.cgi/talk-window-eyes.com > List archives can be found at > http://lists.window-eyes.com/private.cgi/talk-window-eyes.com > > > ___ > Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author > and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. > > For membership options, visit > http://lists.window-eyes.com/options.cgi/talk-window-eyes.com/challsworth2%40icloud.com. > For subscription options, visit > http://lists.window-eyes.com/listinfo.cgi/talk-window-eyes.com > List archives can be found at > http://lists.window-eyes.com/private.cgi/talk-window-eyes.com ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. Thunderbird problems
Since updating to Window-eyes 9.1 on this 8.1 desktop, I have found Thunderbird 24.6 to be almost unusable. Arrowing through the message list does not seem to be problematic unless I up or downarrow too quickly in which case one or more programs crash, although I am not sure whether the problem is Window-eyes or Eloquence. I do know for certain that Thunderbird 24.6 crashes because, if W E is still running, I can go to the task manager where I get the message asking whether I wish to wait for the program or close it, the program being Thunderbird 24.6. After such crashes, pressing control alt W does not always cause W E to resume. I am now at least temporarily using the Outlook Express hack if or until I can resolve the Thunderbird issues. I know some tend to say almost automatically that I should upgrade to the latest Thunderbird. But I am reluctant to do so because of the constant nags about Thunderbird thinks that some messages are spam. In other areas, Window-Eyes 9.1 is working well for me unless I move around the screen too rapidly. In 9.0, I had thought there were problems with the f8 copy command but later found that this command works far better with Notepad or Wordpad than it does with Ed sharp. Thanks for the improvements as they are much appreciated. RE: How can I set up Google Chrome to be totally accessible.
Hello list. I just installed google chrome, and when I read several websites, and I use the up and down arrow keys, Window-eyes reads, but sometimes it cuts off the first letter. For example. When it gets to the word badly, when its reading a sentence, it will acaisonally say bad y. anyways to fix it? For example, I got this message when I set up my cellphone to receive a GMail account. If you have not set up any new devices or computers to receive mail from the particular GMail account, then it is probably a very good idea to change your password because someone might be messing with the account. RE: Right Arrow Problem in WE 9.1
Hi, Make sure you go to cursor keys/keys and set the first action for right arrow to character after. Make sure second action is set to none. When I go to notepad and type This is a test I press home and I hear T. I press the right arrow and hear the letter H, again I hear I etc. I would not expect to hear the letter T when hitting right arrow as I am on the letter T and just moved away from it. If I press control-numpad 4 to read the current character after pressing the right arrow I would expect to hear the character again that was announced. Re: wlm and 9.1
I don't know what that is, because I am in single line view, and it still says whether a message is read or unread. The thing that has always baffled me since I got my braille display and could check: instead of saying read (r e a d), or unread (u n r e a d), it says red: (r e d) and unred ( u n r e d)! Has anybody else noticed that? My read and unread status doesn't read in windows live mail either. I even changed from two line view to single line view. And that didn't fix anything. Also I disabled the windows live mail app also with know change either. So how do you fix this/ It worked just fine before the upgrade to 9.1. Are you sure you have that column enabled in Windows Live Mail itself? As for the count, yes, this did regress. I'm sure we can do something in the Windows Live Mail app to clean this up. We just need a chance to get to it. Thanks again Rod: Listen to it at 20 percent and if noticibly lower good enough else try about 30 percent. And thanks again - I really appreciate it.
