Although the help here in this group is great, It should not need
to exist. There should be a good help system. Companies do not
have the time to read loads of mailing list to find out how the
e-mail client works.

Being a bit more "mainstream" will at least help.

True, but maybe the questions will shift a bit, to understanding

It could be that you like the product but since there are some

I can not explain it and I'm wondering my self. Seems that e-mail
and sometimes using company databases are seen as Software that
every body know's and that "The firm" should not waste money on
training or even a manual when starting with. In my case it was
Lotus Notes. Just sending and receiving is not a big deal. But if
you would like to know more about all it features and go deeper
into how you can setup things (for a user), they mumble something
about, "there should be a 10 minute guide book somewhere around
here".

In some companies it's not just the e-mail program that is handed
to you this way, in some cases it's the ERP software ;-) with
some minor comments on what buttons you should push.

Hello All,

I'm using GnuPG for signing my mails.
My Public and private key will expire within a couple of days.

I've created a new key and signed it with the old one, then I
revoked the old key.

But when I want to sign a message TB! comes still up with a
choice between the old key and the new key.

I think that if I delete my old key I'm rid of the choice.
But what If someone wants to check my old messages with my old
public key? I can still send that and he can use it and see it's
revoked.

What should I do to be able to check old messages I've send (or
let people check them) and get rid of the choice between the 2
keys?

How should I've done it (if I did it wrong)

I've installed MyGate today. And it's receiving and sending mails to
news groups, but the thing that happend to you also happened to me.
I had the "leave mail on server" on.

It would not be so bad if it happens just ones. But I've a group where
he did download 10.000 messages again and again. When I used kill
doubles he told me that he found around 20.000.

What am I doing wrong?
I download them to the inbox and then filter them to a folder.
The filtering is now set to manual since the bat stays connected until
all messages are filtered (althoug all messages are already
downloaded).

And I can say, after 40.000 messages, it takes a while :-).

Mark a message read in the "view folder"

I do not want the message to be marked read when viewing it in the

Now that I've joint this list I use the "view folder" to brows throug
the messages. (double click on a message and select view - message
list)

But when I click on an unread message it will become read. Is there
a way to prevent this like with the option with the preview pane?

Also the collom order is not the same as in the main screen. How can I

I also have the messages sorted ascending and the only thing that I
noticed was that if you read a mail, close the folder and open the
folder later (and in the meantime messages were placed into the
folder), the mail highlighted is not the bottom one (newest) but the
one you read last. I would like that to be the last mail (newest).

Any one know how to do that?

My Gate and Message ID

2003-09-25 Thread Edgar
Hi,

When downloading MyGate 2.5, I've read the guide by Thomas Martin.
http://www.8ung.at/thebatinfo/technik/tip_newtb.htm

My German is not that good (reading that is) so did I understand
correctly that when you use TB! and MyGate the news messages will have
a MID with a domain of your e-mail adres (It does I've checked that)
and that may/might get you into trouble on usenet since it is not a
right domain (2years excisting and unique)?

Is there something you can do about it? (Not having a own domain or
hiring one) The German site with info on how to loan one was down.

Yes, and not only from this list but also from people in your address
book.

Maybe you can at a fourth filter with names of people in your address
book and the TBUDL@ in it. If it is in the not in the message and it
will fit one of the other criteria then it is deleted.

I do not think that this is possible but maybe this will work.

1) You can enter a new headerfield in your mail called projectid
2) You can also make a reply template that gives this projectid the name
of the folder where you answered the original message.
3) Then you can filter on projectid for outgoing mails.

You can extent this by maken the header editable so you can use it
also for new mails. (You should then of course give it the name of the
folder it should go to).

You can, if you make it editable, use an other projectid (a number)
and not put in the foldername. Comes down to the same.

How to do it:
1) Options > preference > Message headers.
Then AD, Name: Project RFCname: ProjectID (no address field / can be
edit / no scroll.

2) ad the following line to your reply template
   %HDRProjectID="%FOLDERNAME"

Please determin first which template you use. The default account,
the folder, the group (in addressbook) or the person template (in
   addressbook).

3) filter in kludges op Projectid: (foldername)

IF you use this you should answer the messages in the project folder
where it belongs because the %FOLDERNAME part takes the name of that
folder.

Any good?

I sometimes have the same problem but OE does not do it any better. It
also breaks the connection. So this is not always an option.

And I thought that OE deleted the messages when all are received, when
there normally is a error in the receiving it always receive the

You have to copy and paste them when you are using different templates
for each person. A Better way is to split up your address book in
groups and use the group templates.

It would be helpful if you could go into a address of a person and
then select a "next" option to go to the next person and stay in the
same tab so you can change things faster.

Auto responde to mail with an attachment with a large size

2003-10-05 Thread Edgar
Hello All,

When I used OE (Before TB!) and used a dail-in connection I could make
a rule for large mails.

e.g.. When a mail of more then 1MB was received it would stay on the
server and the sender would get a mail with a text from a specific
text file on my HD.

I'm missing this in TB!
When I choose to delete all messages and not downloading mail > 1MB
I just get a message and the mail is gone.
When I choose to leave all mail on the server I have to delete them
manually. But what is more I can not send a mail to the sender of the
mail that's bigger then 1MB

I could use the Dispatcher but also then there is no automatic mail to
the sender of the mail.

How can I do this in TB!. It should be possible (thinking that it's
capable of doing far more than OE)

I've tried the following (and it did not work):
Settings: leaf messages on server
download only header when bigger then 100 kb

This will leaf all messages on the server and will download only the
small ones.

I placed a filter in incoming mail:
String: blank, Location: sender, presence: yes
Flag the message (just to test if the filter is positive)
Delete message from server
smaller than 100 kb

When I downloaded the mail and checked with the dispatcher all the
mails were still there!

When I again checked for mail (not using the dispatcher) he downloaded
nothing.

When I checked again with the dispatcher ALL the mails were deleted.

So when you select in a filter "delete mail from server" is will not
be deleted when the mail is received it will be deleted the next time
you check your mail (is that how it should be???)

The strange thing is he delete all the mail. Although it should NOT
delete the large mails.

Is this a bug or is my setting not correct?

First of all thanks for the answer to Simons request. This helps me half
way with my problem (see: MID:[EMAIL PROTECTED])

But still I can not sent the sender of the large mail a return mail

The little messages will be deleted the next time you check your

This can cause a problem if you only check ones and then again 1 day
later. (mailbox full)

Setting a subject

2003-10-07 Thread Edgar
Hello All,

I want to do the following:

- Create a message with the new message template in AB Groups

  [begin of macro]
  Hello %TOFNAME,

  %CURSOR
  %Qinclude="%AbTOHandle"
  [end of macro]

The macro includes a quick template with the handle of the group which
  I've entered in my AB (e.g. [bird-pix])

This is the quick template [bird-pix]:

  [begin of macro]
  --
  Cheers,
   %FROMFNAME
   The Netherlands

   %WRAPPED="%COOKIE='D:\Quotes\files\coockie.txt'"
   %LANGUAGE="AM" %ACCOUNT="Home News"
   %REPLYTO="Edgar <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>"
  [end of macro]

I also want to set a subject (identifying the group) in this case:

Subject: [bird-pix]
(with a space behind it).

But when I use the %Subject=[bird-pix] macro it will set it but when
I start a new message and enter something behind it (e.g. [bp] test),
it will always jump back to [bird-pix] .

How can I set the subject header and ad something to it?

This does not solve it. It will always jumps back to the subject
I set in the macro. It does not matter which I edit first the body or

When I enter this macro, the subject stays empty.

Now I've tried this with making some changes in the body and then go
to the subject and change it. That will stay the same.

But is this normal or should it work differently like changing subject
go to body and then make a change there?

Is this due to the way the macro's work?

Thanks, that makes it clear.

I have just one other question about setting subject headers though
:-)

If I set the header with %SUBJECT="Test" and use this in a reply
template.

How can I change the set subject from within a quick template.

I've tried it with %subject="" %subject="no test" but it stays "test".

Chancing signature with qtemplate and %ISSIGNATURE

2003-10-08 Thread Edgar
Hello All,

When you use a signature in a template (e.g.)

Best regards,
 Name

and then insert from the menu a quick template with an other
 signature (e.g.)

 Cu,
  Name
 %ISSIGNATURE

You'll get the following:

 Cu,
  Name

This is how it described in the help file.

But when I insert the same quick template with the %Qinclude="QT" macro
I get the following:

Best regards,
 Name

 Cu,
  Name

He does not replace the signature.
Is this not possible with the Qinclude macro?
How should I do that?

I've moved the %ISSIGNATURE to the top of the QT.

No solution, but an additional problem.

When I take out the "-- " and change it to:

%IsSIGNATURE%-
Cheers,
 %FROMFNAME
 The Netherlands

it will show up as:

,
 Edgar
 The Netherlands

He will not print the "Cheers"

When I remove the %- sign or use a space it will show up in the

But in both cases it will not replace the first signature.

You will answer the mail from a folder.
If you use %FOLDERNAME in your template (it will get the name of the
folder that you were in when you created the answer) you can place
that folder name somewhere in your mail (or mail header) and filter on

It works perfectly.

When I read the message of John in the View folder I can click on

When I send a mail TB! always comes up with the default key (does
not matter which account I use). But in the box where I must type
in the frase there is a drop down list. Now there is the default
key but if you press it you can select an other key.

Hope this works in your version.

I've on my account News the folder TBUDL.
I've created a common folder called archive.
Than one folder below that called TBUDL.

Then I go to the TBUDL folder in my account News and I set the
deletion to alternative and move to folder \\\Archief\TBUDL.
Select compress automatically and on the first tab hold messages
for 40 days.

This works without an error.
I can change the \\\Archief\TBUDL to an other folder (Which I
create first) without error.

I've changed the names to \\\Archive\TBUDL (had to select the
folder again on the deletion page since it kept the \\\Archief
name) But this works also without error.

Did you first create the common folder?

In this case and cases where I'm not sure if I have to respond
to the mail I read them first and this solution will help.

In other mail where I usually have to answer (like in e-mail
chess) I'll just have to manually move the mail then. (So I think
it's a flaw not an option) :-).

Thanks.

Mail client - Server question

2003-11-08 Thread Edgar
Hello All,

A friend want to have a network where 1 PC gets the mail from the
internet and some clients can check on that mail and send mail to
each othere and the internet.

As far as I understand the helpfile TB! can do that. Leaves me
with some questions:

This is a part of the helpfile:

2. Using the "My Computer" desktop icon, choose the local drive
or directory in which The Bat! is installed or where you are
planning to install The Bat!. This location will be used to store
the message bases. Make this path available as a "network share"
for the users that are going to run The Bat! in client mode on
their computers. If you are already using a network drive, e.g.
on a dedicated file server, you may skip this and the next step.

- He's using XP so: Install TB, make the directory share. (Both
program directory and Mail directory or only the mail directory?

- Must The mail maps be in the TB! directory or may they be in an other
  directory like My documents?

- If the mailfolder can be in an other directory it must be shared,
but must the TB! program directory also be shared?

3. Map the shared resource from step 2 to a network drive letter.
Other computers that are going to act as clients within your
network will use this network drive to exchange information with
   the server.

- How is this done in XP, they will be moste likely on my c:\ drive
in a shared directory. When I map that to a network drive (call
it Z:\) I can see it but an other computer must make his own
drive map to the shared map. Must they call the drive Z too or
may it be another drive letter (as long as it is the same shared
  folder)

- Or Am I mistaking it with a drive letter made by a REAL server?
(It makes the directory accessible as drive D:\ and all the
clients will see it as drive D:\)
The next point will only make some sense when this is the case.

4. If you do not have The Bat! installed yet, install it to the
mapped network drive in order to allow machines running The Bat!
in client mode to access it. Run The Bat! from the newly mapped
   network drive.

- Is there a limit on how much clients there can be on 1 server
(could not find that in the help file)?

This was an addition, and if I have for some people a read and

But If I understand correct. I have to exclude read messages in

In the account properties on the under the templates icon there

Besides excluding the filters (by using color sets) I can not find

the color settings work.
Any suggestions?

When I deleted the "answered mail" filter, I still get double copies
when the recipient ask for a confirmation of receipt.

I think it is, but in my opinion it is more readable than a
answer that you post above the original message (called top
quoting).

> could someone explain how to do this or point me to a place where I

I do not know a place where you can read about it, but I can
explain what selective quoting is.

You type a reaction below the text your responding to like I'm
doing now.

> When I select one part of a message to respond to, I hit F4 and can
> write a reply, but the rest of the message disappears. Is the answer
> simply cursoring through the message and leaving a blank line between

When you select a text and hit F4, The Bat! will only quote the
selected text in the mail. The way that I'm responding to your
message is just press answer and the whole text is quoted.

Then I delete the parts of the text that are not important, and
when I want to respond to a part of the text I just type my
remarks below it and move the following text (of your original
message down)

When you receive some more messages from this list you will see
what selective quoting means.

It means just leave the text that your responding to in the
message as a quote and type your response below it.

I receive the mail in the $Known$ and it will be moved to just 1
folder with the name of the sender (Person1)

Roelof pointed out that the doubling was caused by the Read and
the Answered filter. They both filter this message (even when the
continue is off).

But now I've deleted the read filter so there is just 1 filter.
But I still get double mail.
When the sender asks for a confirmation it will create an double
mail in the (Person1) folder. It does not matter if I click yes
or no.

Marking mail as Junk with Bayesit filter

2003-11-14 Thread Edgar
Hello All,

Is it wise to mark Spam mail that contains a lot of normal words
in it, as spam when using the Bayesit filter?

You probably seen one of these messages by now.
They look like this:

Buy this, enlarge that.

sid rnd top asp id technology type aff right asp sz loc soundoff
sz html politics main hour columnists ord src frm profiles
davebarry jhtml E tg DD soundoff examiner asp src gif single aff
htm x rnd c sz asp tg search news src DCDA audio KPOM sz asp c
script day sz BuxB htm aff xml RHNMOTORING kw resource Weather
src tg sid sz aff c visitorsguide exclusions storyid asp Pollx
ContentServer richmedia sp type section fdaffaaedafeebcab news

Etc.
This list of words differ and some are more normal then this
example.

When you mark it as spam, won't it upset the statistics?

I've tested around a bit. Seems that all addresses from
[EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED] give the key of my mail
all others ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) will give the error.

I've made the Qtemplates the same so it can not be this.
it's in the starting letter of the reply address.

Even when I open a new message that just use a blanc template it
will responde as mentioned here above.

When I leave the original reply address it will work, when I place
an letter in front of it [EMAIL PROTECTED] it will give the
error when it is an o or later it will work again.

GnuPG Smart-matching

2003-11-17 Thread Edgar
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello All,

As descripted on this page: http://www.landscreek.net/gpg_pgp_tb.html
TB! uses smart matching for signing with gpg.
But there should also be a pop-up screen to go around it.

In MID:[EMAIL PROTECTED] I described some
problems I have.

When using a reply to address that's not my from address and
starting with a-n it will match the wrong UID, when it starts
with an o-z it will match the right UID.
(I use this for my yahoo mailing groups)

This looks like a bug to me.
- - Can someone confirm.

- - Why don't get I the pop-up screen?
- - Any solution? I like to use gpg but when it's not working I
  probably go back to pgp.

You can then use: %TO="" %TO="%OTOADDR"
This will take the original To address (the mailing list) and
send makes it the new To address.

If you like the name of the user in it you can use something like
%To= "%OFromFName <%OToaddr>"

No default secred key error??

2003-11-20 Thread Edgar
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello All,

I ran into something strange.
I use TB as mail client. I have there some templates which I use
when answering or sending a mail to a mailing list I sometimes
see the pass phrase input screen for an mail address that I have
and sometimes I see it for the mailing address of the list.

Example
When sending to [EMAIL PROTECTED] I see my mail address.
When sending to [EMAIL PROTECTED] I see this mail address.
On the second address I get an error:

gpg: no default secret key: secret key not available
gpg: [stdin]: clearsign failed: secret key not available

I've traced it to the reply-to address.
When I change this address from [EMAIL PROTECTED] to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] I get the same error.

I've also tested it with an other account (no templates there)
When I change the reply to address the GnuPG will show the input
screen for the address in the Reply to address.

That leaves me with 2 questions:

1) why is he looking at the reply to address and not the from
   address.
2) why will some mailing lists in the reply to address show the
right key (PGP-Basics) and others not (bird-pix).

The first has something to do with GnuPG.
The second has something to do with the templates in TB!

I'll try the first with the pgp-basic group.
But if any body knows an answer, I'll be greatfull.

By the way with PGP I did not have this error.

Here are the filters for the account with the templates.
To create a new message (address book group account):
In all addresses I have an handle to select a list
they look like [listhandle] and on the memo tab there is a sign
which indicates if it is an dutch or english mailing list.

No, just one entry. And I now know it's not only when I change

I'm Using Hotmail popper 2.1.0 and the BayesIT plug-in and every
thing is fine. Never had these double or ghost mails with HM
popper, not even with older versions.

I did have this with Yahoo Popper, so maybe it's something about

Maybe you can download your mail but leave them on the server and
