Hello again,

Never mind. I think I've got it sorted. I just needed to reorder the
priority of the filters, as one of them was to "park" all messages. Once I
made sure all other filters came before the "park" filter, all is well
again. :)

New filters/re-filtering not working

2020-05-11 Thread Melissa Reese
Hello,

I just created a new POP3 account, and created new folders into which I'd
like to filter messages.

After creating a new filter, and I try to "re-filter" the Inbox, nothing is
filtered into the new folder, even though I know there are plenty of
eligible messages.

In all the years I've been using TB (since v1), I've never had this problem.
I'm now using the latest [stable] version.

Any ideas as to what's going on here?

Thanks!

So, I did that: Moved the sub-filters out to become main filters and
they still didn't work. The weirdest thing!

I then looked more closely and found another filter higher up in the
list that moved these mail to account B's Inbox. And of course it
didn't continue with other filters so that they were never triggered.

I moved that offending filter down in the list (it has some other
conditions, but there is some overlap), moved the subfilters back to
become subfilters, and now all works as desired.

No it is not, because I don't want TB! to continue with other filters.
There might one that is lower in the list; sorting my filters is
something I am careful with.

I would think that sub-filters are always checked (in the order of the
subfilters) even if "continue..." is not checked, as otherwise they
are inactive.

> Also, why the two-step process? You could do away with the first
> filter and move messages straight from Account A Inbox to the required
> folder in Account B.

I think this would be the solution. However, here is the reason why I
have the two-step process:

The email address is an alias of a main email address. So, while it is
a different address, it is really the same mailbox. This made sense
when only a few messages arrived there. However, the volume is
increasing so that I first had sub-folders, and now an entire account
(which does not check emails).

The main filter for this is triggered by that alias email address in
Headers, and then the subfilters are supposed to sort into the
different folders in that new dummy account.

Thinking about it, it is unlikely that someone uses my main email
address with a Header that is used as a trigger in the subfilters. So
I will take this way and change the subfilters to be main filters.

Thanks for this tip!

> I did away with per-account filters long ago and switched to Common
> filters instead, which I find far easier. I would suggest giving them

These mails only arrive in that one main account, and the account they
are filtered into is a dummy account. I would like to make it a main
account but will have to check with GMX whether they can do it. If I
just delete the alias from the main account and then try to create a
new account with that address, GMX will block that address from being
created for a certain time, I believe. And then I cannot receive any
mails, which would be a problem.

Is the option "continue processing with other filters" selected in
your filter that moves the messages to Account B?

Also, why the two-step process? You could do away with the first
filter and move messages straight from Account A Inbox to the required
folder in Account B.

I did away with per-account filters long ago and switched to Common
filters instead, which I find far easier. I would suggest giving them
a try.

In that case, maybe I should try and delete the filter and just
recreate it. I'll come back with the result.

By the way, I am talking about POP accounts.

Hmmm. Unfortunately I find that depending on the ISP and probably what IMAP
platform they use, that filtering is a bit flaky. I have some accounts that
will
automatically filter my messages 90 % of the time, but then refuse to filter
identical messages no matter what I do. Its like The Bat just quits filtering
at
some point.

I also come up against the ones that don't filter automatically, but filter
just
fine with re-filter.

It works here. I wonder if it matters if account b is below account a in the
list of accounts. I'm not sure how an account would know if it arrived by
filter
or not. Does it work if you re-filter account

Sub-filtering across accounts

2018-06-04 Thread Thomas Fernandez
Hi TBUDL,

I Have a filter in one account (A) which moves the mails to another
account (B), and in that account (B) should sort them into folders. So
the sorting into the folders is done by sub-filters

Alas, the sub-filters are not being executed, all mails filtered into
account B end up in the Inbox.

Is there anything I need to do which I am not aware of?

Does that work from forwarding via a filter though, as i haven't seen
any pop ups. Please bear in mind the age of this version of TB!,
perhaps it's something only available in later versions Stuart? Thanks
for the reply Stuart. redirecting wouldn't save a message on the PC

When you forward a message you get a pop -up that has a lot of choices
including
whether of not to include attachments and whether it is test or HTML. You may
want to play with those. The other option is to redirect instead of forwarding.
That usually leaves things as they initially were.

Sorry, the wife threw a Christmas party so it's been manic here I
removed all the continue filtering ticks and revised a few filter
orders. I also removed a few redundant ones. I am a lot of mailing
lists hence so many filters to send content to a dedicated folder.
Things are now infinitely better, thank you so very much! There are a
few anomalies, but I have now worked out how to put the messages back
in the Inbox and manually run a filter with logging to see what filter
is placing them incorrectly. I am ALMOST at a perfect situation!
Awesome, and greatly appreciated.

One question though. Mail with photo content or linkss to web sites,
when transferred to my phone via GMAIL loses that content and appears
plain text, with no photos or clickable links. That makes them fairly
useless. is there a means to have GMAIL show them on the phone as they
originally appeared on my main PC please?

I think with a final few tweaks to the order of filters things will be
nigh on 100% :) Again, thanks to all for tips and time spent!

OK, I did receive your PM with your filters. OMG! How many do you
have? With so many, I think you may be prone to 'loosing control'.

I have just taken a quick look at them (will do so in more detail over
the weekend) and so far I have seen two things:

- You have other (several) filters that do forward messages to your
gmail account.

- I have seen that most (if not all) have the Option "Continue
processing with other filters" set/ticked. Why this? Any reason why
you want a message be 'tested' by all your filters? If a message
matches the condition of the first (or Nth) filter, I see no sense in
checking possible matches with the rest of them.

Unless you have a good reason to have this option set, untick it in
all filters and try and see if there is a difference.

OK, what I would do in your case:

Filter: My New Mail Folder
Condition: If Sender... or Recipient ...
 Action: None (Yes NONE)

 Sub-filter: Forward Mail
  Condition: Any Message
  Action: Move to the folder
  Forward message

Both actions are included in the sub-filter because the sub-filter

true.

Try it. You don't have to replace your current filters. Just

In the sub-filter on the folders tab, did you select "Specified Folders Only"
and then pick your My Mail folder?

You should be able to add a subfilter that would forward by selecting only the
folder that the messages were moved to.

Filtering question

2017-12-06 Thread Chris Wilson

06 December 2017

I have a new Smartphone (Moto G4) and not being used to modern phones
it's taking me a while coming to terms with its abundant features!

I want TB! to forward mails that have been already filtered to my
personal mail folder (My Mail) on my home desktop PC to GMAIL so I can
reasd them on my phone. But when I add a rule to forward that mail to
my GMAIL address i get ALL mail coming to my chriswilson.tv account
forwarded to GMAIL. I tried moving the filter to the bottom of the
list but no change in that behaviour occurred.

The rules that work for TB! are

sender contains chriswilson.tv
OR
recipient contains chriswilson.tv

Action

Move messages to My Mail folder

All other messages generally and reliably get filtered to relevant
folders, they being mainly mailing list messages.

Can I force TB! to only forward mails that end up in My Mail folder on
to my GMAIL account?

Thanks I am running an older version of TB! as generally speaking I am
comfortable with it by now ;) I think the correct description for
people like myself is a Luddite!

Yes. My suggestion is to copy them one at a time to Notepad.

Then, when you have them all in notepad use the Replace function to
change all instances of @yahoogroups.com (without quotes) to
@stage.yahoogroups.com or @*yahoogroups.com (without quotes).

Then copy the whole of the notepad text back into your sorting office.
(You may like to take the precaution of a backup first!)

You will probably have to visit the Share with... tab of each filter
and re-select which accounts to apply them to.

 box
contains a single long line which describes what actions were taken with this
 message as follows:

Message from MFPA, subject Re: Feature request? Messages display filtering
used., size 6,368 bytes filtered (processed by Processed by: Faux inbox.
Actions performed: Move to the folder \\Jack S. LaRosa\Faux inbox,
 Processed

M For what it's worth, ticking the log filtering results box appears
M to make no difference. The results of the Test Filters function do
M not appear in the account log. Maybe they are written to another file
M somewhere, but I have never felt the need to look for one.

Nowhere do I see an option to log filtering results.

I can only assume the difference in our versions is causing the disparity.
 I've
never used the right-click test filters option anyway. I usually use the
FOLDER + RE-FILTER and then only if I've created a new filter or modified an
 old
one. Even then I'm only interested in whether the filter worked or not and
 not
in how it worked. I can see however how such information might help in
determining why a new or modified folder failed to work. I'll try it next
 time.

I see the same, which is not really telling me how a message was
routed to that folder. I was expecting something that showed the
filter, or filters, used to move or copy it there. I maintain this
would be a very useful feature, hope I haven't misunderstood the Test
Filters option, but I believe it does what it's supposed to do, but
I would like to see something showing the history of the copy / move
in future releases ;) Thanks.

Right-click any message in The Bat! and select Test Filters. You can
find out the name of each filter that would process the message, and
what action would be taken by the filter. (I say would because it
tests using the current filter set, and you may have added, deleted,
or edited filters since that message came in.) As well as testing the
message against incoming filters you can also test it against read,
replied, or outgoing filters. Not pretty tables like your screenshot,
but probably just as useful. I use it sometimes if a message appears
in an unexpected folder, or to test after editing/adding filters.

clue why this delay happened? A way to fix it?

One of the things that is driving me mad with this IMAP
account is that there is always a lag for anything I do,
except initiating or replying to a message. Deletes
sometimes take all day, even if I close the mailer and
reopen it. Because it doesn't delete immediately, I am
afraid it will delete something I didn't intend to dump,
and it does seem to have eaten a few messages along the
way.

I don't see this lag in the POP accounts.

For those who didn't catch my first message with all the
info, the IMAP accounts are on my freeBSD server, which is
running PostFix. In case that's relevant. It's probably
also relevant that I'm no Linux wizard, (or even literate
there) and have not yet figured out how all that stuff
works.

Again, many thanks in advance for any wisdom you have to
offer!

Filtering across accounts

2010-07-25 Thread TheLimit

Hey Batters -

I use a lot of filters here, the filters are one of the
things that make it impossible for me to use a different
mailer, but I'm having some issues now.

I've had to rebuild my whole email db, as I mentioned
recently, and I've also acquired a few more accounts.
Because of the problems I've been having the last year or
so with the scrambled db (post trojan infection some
installs/reinstalls didn't take as well as I expected, and
to make a long story short, I have abandoned 10+ years of
email and started over) people are often using the 'wrong'
addy to email me, and though I'll eventually get
them sorted out, in the meantime my correspondence is a
shambles.

I thought the easy way to deal with this would just be to
filter these emails from the 'wrong' account to a
folder in the 'right' account, since the filter options
imply strongly that you can do just this.

However, this isn't happening, and I can't figure out why.
Since a couple of hours of tinkering had no useful
result, and one of the options in the filters is to
'redirect the message', I thought that would probably
work.

However, I struck out there, too.

I should say that I have both POP and IMAP accounts in
this mess, and at the moment I am trying to filter from a
POP account (gmail) to an IMAP (local, my freebsd server
running postfix) account.

So .. can anybody tell me where I'm going wrong?

Eternal gratitude in advance -

Ah, I think you may be onto something Robin. I think Roelof and MFPA
may have tested the wrong thing. The filter/search thing I'm referring
to is the one on the main Bat toolbar, it has a field 'search', a
'next' button to the right, and a 'previous' button to the left. So
yes, it is probably called the Quick Search (if The Bat helpfile
mentions what it is called, I can't find it - The Bat really, really
badly needs some proper documentation). I don't think it accepts
message-id, but I didn't pick up on that until you mentioned it.

Anyway, click in that search field on the toolbar, type in something
that will only produce one message as the result, and then click on it
and see what it shows in the preview pane below the message list. If
you had highlighted another message apart from the one listed in the
results of the search before you did the search, 'no message loaded'
will appear and you won't be able to read the message. If you
highlighted that message that appears in the results before you did
the search though, it looks as though it works ok.

Inline Filtering

2009-06-21 Thread Mr Happy
Hi everyone,

I think there may be a bug in the inline filtering. Open my inbox,
click in the filtering field, type in some text (say a persons name),
it only finds one match. I then click on that message, but all it says
in the preview pane is 'no message loaded'. If your filtering finds
two or more messages, you can click on one of the other messages, then
click back on the first message, and it will display, but you cannot
do this when you have only one match - you have to double click on it
to open it (so the bug is the message text not displaying in the
preview pane when you filter and the message is the first message in
the list of matching messages).

I don't understand why you don't sort the mail in your IMAP account
as it arrives there. I do virtually no filtering with TB! anymore.

Because I can't. It's my work account and our admin does not allow us
to do anything at all besides recieving and sending mail. I guess they
haven't figured out the benefits or are reluctant to give the non-IT
people (as opposed to us) any opportunity to mess up their system.

In the office I have to use Thunderbird (because I don't want
Outlook), which has limited filtering capabilities, but gets the job
done. Here at home, well. Last couple of days it worked again. Now it
stopped. I'll just wait and see.

IMAP filtering

2009-03-17 Thread simbabque
Hello Tbudl,

I've got an IMAP account with lots of mail. I connect through the
internet with a 1024/128 kbit/s line. The account is checked in
intervals of 10 minutes and it disconnects after 2 minutes. Only mails
below a certain size get downloaded completely. For the others, it
only gets the headers. So far, that's all working quite ok.

I've set up several filters to move mails to different folders. Now
what is strange is that they sometimes work, and sometimes they don't.
Some messages would show up in the right folders on their own, but
often nothing happens. When I try to refilter them (no difference
whether selected or not), it says they were filtered, it shows it in
the log, but it does not move them. Doesn't matter whether they're
read or unread, either.

I've not figured out what the conditions are for this to happen. First
I belived it might be connected with lag, because I sometimes download
a lot of stuff. But it also happens when the whole bandwidth is
available.

I don't just want to blame the weak IMAP implementation because it
does work from time to time. E.g. there're like 10 filtered and 20 not
filtered unread messages in the account right now.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem or any idea why this happens?

Thanks and regards,
simbabque
