Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Async USB Dac Experiments - testers wanted...
Hi, regardless of whether it could be improved on the EDO side (I was able to play in asynchronous mode using build in aplay player) it works now with new firmware for VIA VT1731. If you have any dac using VIA VT1731 (or Audio-gd with usb-32) there is new firmware that allows to play in asynchronous mode using EDO plugin. Link to firmware and instruction you can find here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/500369/audio-gd-digital-interface/3870#post_9563929 I've flashed firmware on dac and squeezebox works now in asynchronous mode. The last thing that I want to do is to upsample on squeezebox side. Anyone knows how to set up fixed resampling to for example 176,4kHz? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Async USB Dac Experiments - testers wanted...
Hi Triode, I use a 1794 based DAC with a WaveIO 2.0 USB module from Lucian Luckit. It worked fine for 4 weeks, but now (when I power off the DAC) the Touch doesn't recognize the DAC anymore. To get it working again I have to reboot selecting the spdif Out and choose the Luckit 2.0 USB output after that. OR I reload/reboot your kernel and it plays instantly. I am running the 0.8 kernel and the 7.7.2 LMS. I have tried version 7.8, but that doesn't help. Do you have any idea? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Async USB Dac Experiments - testers wanted...
Hi Triode, I discovered something important. Because I'm unable to play through USB so I'm using optical output. I remember to try to use aplay command when using USB output but always get this device is busy. Yesterday when I switched between frequency rates I've got the same strange sound that I have with EDO. So I've tried today to make the same on squeezebox. But because I don't know how to change resampling on squeezebox. So I tried following command: aplay -f dat -Dplughw:1,0 piano2.wav On first run I've got the same incorrect sound but on second run sound was played correctly. There were few times when sound wasn't OK, for example after loosing connection to squeezebox from winscp. But in most cases sound is OK. So what can be wrong? Thinking that now everything is OK, I've typed following command: jive_alsa -d hw:CARD=Audiogd -c default -b 2 -p 2 -s 24 -f 1 and aplay stop to work. And I have incorrect sound from squeezebox player on USB and optical. I can switch in DAC between these two and on both I have the same incorrect sound. So using this command I have incorrect optical output. Strange. So if something like this works: cat piano2.wav | aplay -Dplughw:1,0 so maybe there is possible to obey jive_alsa and play by aplay? Is it possible? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Async USB Dac Experiments - testers wanted...
Hi Triode, There was no go for me to test this in different way than installing Linux on my notebook. So I will describe my steps to get Linux because this can be good test case to setup environment for such tests. I didn't want to make any changes to SSD drive in my notebook so after reading some pages I found that we can install Linux on USB. After few more queries to google I found such software: www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/ Wonderful thing. Because of this next steps will be easy. After inserting USB stick (you don't have to worry about data on it if you have fat32 on it, tested) and running this yumi I've selected 'slacko puppy' distribution. I've found that this distribution is small and is modern too. Using iso check box you will be redirected to proper iso file download. You have to save iso file and after download select it in yumi. After clicking 'create' you have bootable usb stick with Linux. Pretty simple. After booting this puppy if you are clicking on flac file it's automatically run Pmusic program and starts to play. Because sound went from my notebook speakers I've set my USB DAC clicking start menu -> setup -> ALSA sound wizard -> Three: multiple sound cards. Change works without reboot. To have the same test environment I would use following example to play music: mplayer http://radio.cesnet.cz:8000/cro-d-dur.flac -ao alsa And music is played correctly. Output from lsusb command in attachment. I don't know how to switch re-sampling. Because playing 96khz file gave me 48khz. Checked in stream0 and hw_params. So I edited /usr/share/alsa/alsa.config and putted a following change: defaults.pcm.dmix.rate 192000 Momentary freq in most of the time is 192000 and change to 192031 about 3 times per second. I've tried 44100 too. And sound was OK too. Momentary freq 44078 and 44110. cat /proc/asound/version returns 1.0.24 kernel version is 3.1.10 +---+ |Filename: lsusb.txt| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=14219| +---+ Eryk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58454 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93310 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Is this a Tenor device - try firmware #11 for that. Otherwise I'm not currently planning and updated kernels for Touch as its too hard to merge additional changes given no support from Logitech for newer kernels - hence the need to keep to the old version of alsa. Hi Triode, I've upgraded usb chip to firmware #4. But have following problem. When playing 44.1kHz music /proc/asound/Audiogd/stream0 returns: Playback: Status: Running Interface = 1 Altset = 3 URBs = 3 [ 7 8 8 ] Packet Size = 776 Momentary freq = 48000 Hz (0x6.) Feedback Format = 14.18 and used interface is following: Interface 1 Altset 3 Format: S32_LE Channels: 2 Endpoint: 4 OUT (ASYNC) Rates: 44100, 88200, 48000, 96000, 176400, 192000 Data packet interval: 500 us Max Packet Size = 776 EP Attribute = 0x0 And sound isn't OK. You can hear something but sound is constantly interrupted. I can change this interruption interval by changing buffer size. But I can't find setting that the sound is OK. It seems that problem is 14.18 feedback format. That is not standard 16.16. But reading about ALSA it seems that they tried now to detect when to send data to DAC using packet sizes or something like this. I don't have other computer with Linux. But I would like to check the newest version of ALSA. EDO using version 1.0.16. The newest seems to be 1.0.26. Is there a chance to get EDO with the newest ALSA version? Or maybe you know what to do in such not standard feedback format? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Async USB Dac Experiments - testers wanted...
First of all, thanks Triode for this great applet. I'm new owner of Audio-gd NFB-1.32 DAC. Because this DAC sounds better when connected by USB I tried your applet. Installation was very easy. So far I only played 16/44 files and have not noticed any problems. But checking information about USB device in settings (that is provided by EDO applet) I got information that is operating in adaptive mode. As I understand in this mode SBT is master (and his clock) when sending digital audio to DAC. My DAC is with the upgrade for USB clock (additional TCXO clock). So going to asynchronous mode and using this TCXO clock should be a better solution for sound quality. Audio-gd advertise this DAC as asynchronous so it seems that USB chip VIA Vinyl Audio VT1731 should be compatible with the asynchronous mode. http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/audio/usb/vt1731/index.jsp So after reading posts from this topic I tried to get more info from SBT. I used WinSCP (I'm a Windows user) to connect to SBT. For anyone who would like to use this software there is some hint. Often, I received an error message connected with ssh and groups. Here is the solution: go to folder /usr/bin press Shift+F4 for creating new file, name it groups in editor past following code #!/bin/sh echo "root" save, close editor, when folder will be updated with new file, go to the properties under right click mouse menu on this groups file and put 0755 as access rights or you can invoke console Ctrl+T and put following command chmod 0755 groups So I was able now to invoke dmesg on SBT. Here is the result: http://pastebin.com/fSbppG0g (you should be able to find it in the attachment too) Here is the content for /proc/asound/card1/stream0 /proc/asound/card1$ cat stream0 i-top SVB-202D at usb-fsl-ehci.0-1, high speed : USB Audio Playback: Status: Running Interface = 1 Altset = 1 URBs = 3 [ 32 32 32 ] Packet Size = 768 Momentary freq = 44100 Hz (0x5.8333) Interface 1 Altset 1 Format: S32_LE Channels: 2 Endpoint: 4 OUT (ADAPTIVE) Rates: 44100, 48000, 88200, 96000, 176400, 192000, 352800, 384000 Data packet interval: 250 us Max Packet Size = 768 EP Attribute = 0x0 Interface 1 Altset 2 Format: S24_3LE Channels: 2 Endpoint: 4 OUT (ADAPTIVE) Rates: 44100, 48000, 88200, 96000, 176400, 192000, 352800, 384000 Data packet interval: 250 us Max Packet Size = 576 EP Attribute = 0x0 Interface 1 Altset 3 Format: S16_LE Channels: 2 Endpoint: 4 OUT (ADAPTIVE) Rates: 44100, 48000, 88200, 96000, 176400, 192000, 352800, 384000 Data packet interval: 500 us Max Packet Size = 768 EP Attribute = 0x0 For WinSCP users - because this is file generated by system so don't see content by opening this file. Under console you have to invoke command cat /proc/asound/card1/stream0 Now is the question. How to enable async mode? What I have to change in files under SBT? Maybe I can invoke some command to enable this mode? Or install additional packages? If you have any ideas, please send them to me and I will try them. Excellent, thank you for beeing so kind to provide us with the code. I will email Tenor and Teac also. I´ll try to build a new kernel with your provided code. I´ll feed you back then. Do you think the bug/flaw is in hardware design or in the firmware code of the TE8802 chip? The teac UD-H01 has the Tenor TE8802 chipset. Have a look here http://pastebin.com/hiqpra58 the frquency is jumping in between 183994 Hz and 14 Hz while playing back a 192kHz file. Hello there, here is a genius at work. Thank you for your efforts, triode. I´ve recently acquired a Teac UD-H01 dac, but unfortunately I got no SBT, so I cannot test your kernels numbered 9-12. I have massive problems with playing back audiofiles beyond 48kHz. The playback of high-res audio files clicks/crackles/pops. I´ve tried it with 2 newer Ubuntu kernels (for x86 based machines): 3.2.23 and 3.5.0, same behaviour as mentioned above while playing back files with aplay. You´ve stated that your "Tenor" kernels were designed to work around the frequency corruption seen with the Tenor chip. Is this frequency corruption the reason for the the crackling playback or are there maybe any other factors that could disturb the USB audio stream? jollyjoggler's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58014 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93310 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

The change I made for rDAC is in post 219: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?93310-Async-USB-Dac-Experiments-testers-wanted&p=70&viewfull=1#post70 This is basically ensuring the interval requested for the syncpipe (the feedback connection) is not too long for the size of the ehci schedule maintained by the linux kernel - essentially it can't schedule periodic intervals which are too long as the size of the schedule held in memory means that scheduling packets into the future goes beyond the size of the schedule held. Like thousands of others I'd just like to say thank you for all the work and tech support you do. Logitech should be ashamed with their new "product roadmap", there's obviously some idiots in key positions within the corporate structure who simply do not understand the product they bought from Sean Adams. They obviously saw it as a quick way into the AV streaming sector but then screwed up because they didn't understand the AV market either! I wish they'd go back to making mice and webcams and leave us audiophiles in peace! Thanks Triode, thanks Sean, fingers crossed for the future dpaws's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16896 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93310 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I'm getting good sound after installing EDO but when I tried turning off the Touch's screen through Putty it couldn't find TT. Also I tried a 24/192 file and it plays - but super slow(like half speed) Being unable to play 24/192 doesn't really bother me as I only have one file but I would like to be able to kill the screen and daemons again. Its worth saying that I would like to hear from other SBT users with Tenor devices as the work around for diego may need changing for other devices. I would like to get some more test data and would ask that anyone willing to do so posts here and we can ask you to try one of the test kernels to get us some more debug messages. I've also written to Tenor about this. I think this will put pressure on the firmware developers at Tenor, and this is fine. They now know that it is known that their firmware (or even hardware?) has flaws. So let's hope that this will motivate them to bring out a stable set of firmware and drivers. Manufacturers will obviously think twice, if they prefer the Tenor chip or another one, that may be more expensive or less advanced in some aspects, but more robust and therefore causing less problems to clients. As seen on the audio-gd website right now, they are calling for reports about issues... so it seems, that they have been under pressure to start selling their chip in a rather beta stage... diego's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40897 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93310 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Please be aware that kernel #11 will only work with usb2 devices and is specifically designed for the Tenor 8802l device. It appears that the Tenor device corrupts the feedback messages it sends to the linux host. This firmware contains some code to work around the specific corruption seen on diego's device. This may work for other users, but its possible that we need to make the workaround more generic to work for other instances of the Tenor device. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Async USB Dac Experiments - testers wanted...
Hi there fellows. Good news for owners of a DAC using a TE8802L - USB-connection! It can now be connected over Asynchronous USB. It works for audio-gd DACs. It might work for other TE8802L - Based DACs, too. In particular for instance, TEAC UD-H01. PLEASE REPORT HERE, IF YOU GET YOUR DAC TO WORK, OR NOT. And please say thank you to Triode. He worked on that many hours. I suppose he is British, and he was working even during the GB against Italy - game yesterday evening! Only the numerous tryouts and log file creations, that I did to assist Triode, took me hours, so developping must have been a huge task! Disclaimer: This current version is still in Development Stage. However, I am able to play up to 24 bit / 192 khz - files with it. And it sounds great. But nobody can guarantee, that this will work for all users and any setups! All the modifications in this guide are at your own risk. They are not supported by any vendor, nor by myslef, nor by the developper Triode, nor by anybody else. They are in particular not supported by Logitech, audio-gd or Tenor (gfec). Any damage will be on your own risk! If you go further in this guide, you accept this condition! However... For me, I can tell you, that it works. I have a Squeezebox Touch connected over USB to a audio-gd DI. Here is the guide: Prerequisites: - I recommend, you use a DAC, that is externally powered, NOT USB-powered. The DAC may work over USB power, but I can not tell for sure. If your DAC has no separate power input, this usb - linear power - interface may help, and it will by the way enhance your sound quality: http://www.aqvox.de/usb-power_en.html ). - Everything on the SBT and on the Logitech Media Server is updated to the latest versions and runs with default settings. - Logitech Media Server must run on an external computer (or NAT), and Squeezebox Touch must be connected with this external server via Network. LAN is best, if possible. Now: - connect the TE8802 - based - DAC to the Squeezebox Touch (SBT) over a good USB cable. - Access the configuration screen of the Logitech Media Server over a web browser, go to the plugins - tab and add http://triodeapplets.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/usbtestrepo.xml as additional repository. Choose to show third party plugins. - Go to the SBT, go to the applet installer (in settings, extended settings) - Uncheck the tab that limits the choice to recommended apps - Choose "Enhanced Digital Output" and install it. SBT will reboot, download a Kernel and reboot again. - Play a song, it will not sound, but this is to make sure, your SBT is connected to the server - Go again to the applet instller and install "Kernel Updater". SBT will reboot. - Go to Kernel Updater (in settings, extended settings). Install Kernel #11. Wait until SBT reboots completely. - Disconnect the power connection of the SBT and disconnect power from the DAC. Wait 10 seconds. - Power on DAC and wait 10 seconds - Power on the SBT and wait until it boots - Go to the Audio-Settings and choose Digital Output. Choose your DAC over USB! - Listen to the music Recommendations: Choose "Screen disabled" screensaver while playing. Additional mods to the SBT, like TT3.0, will probably NOT work. Maybe they can work, but you will have to manually adjust priority settings and buffer settings, etc. You find lots of discussions about that on the audiophile threads. However, these settings may make the SBT not to respond anymore. This can usually be resolved with a factory reset, but again, there is no guarantee. IMPORTANT: Please, discuss audio quality and audiophile mods only in the audiophile threads ( http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?94855-Triode-s-USB-24-192-plug-in-sound-quality-impressions ). Do NOT discuss audio quality here! THANKS! To revert everything back to the original stage and factory defaults: - Power on the SBT - Hold down the little reset button on the back of the SBT just above the DC power plug for 10 seconds. This does the factory reset of the settings, but NOT of the installed Kernel ! - Let the SBT boot up to "Factory Settings". - Go to the Software Updating Menu (in settings, extended settings) - Force to "update" the Logitech Firmware - Let the SBT boot up completely. - Do another factory reset Enjoy! diego's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40897 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93310 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Hi there Triode! Good news: The TE8802L-DAC GETS detected with Windows Firmware on it and Kernel #9 on SBT. "Bad" news: The behaviour is the same, as with EDO only (and its normal Kernel), and the Linux-Test-Firmware. That means: - 44100/16 plays OK. When everything is just plugged in, cat... show values varying slightly around 44100. As soon as everything has plaied for some time, it stays on exactly 44100k. - 48000/24 plays OK. cat... always shows 48002 - 96000/24 has two different situations: >when all the gear is still cold: cat... shows values around 176004k. Sound is very aweful. Just noise, with some small idea of the music in the background. >after playing for a while: cat... values shown switch between: 88004, 96002, 104002 Hz. Always arount these 3 values with plus minus 2Hz. Sound clicks very frequently music is recocnisable. I send you the text files with all the cat... and dmesg outcomes by mail (as here, I can only post two attachments at one time) To answer your other question: On Windows, the DAC with this firmware works OK with all frequencies up to 96K (not tested above) and word lengths of 16 and 24b. (And just to explain: After a while of trying out, I found the reason for "DAC not detected" in my last tests: When rebooting, SBT/EDO seems to search for the last connected usb DAC. If the last usb dac is not detected, it stays on the "DAC not connected" screen (maybe you might modify the EDO so, that it goes by default to the screen, where the output can be selected). So... now I am very keen to know the next step :) ! Thanks again for helping! EDIT: Just got my I2S - connection - Kit to fit in between my USB-Interface and my DAC. Bypassing spdif between the DI and the DAC will allow me to use 192K. So after a bit of soldering and with some luck that I don't mess up something, I will be able to try 176.4 and 192khz. There is probably little chance that it works better than 96k, but who knows... diego's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40897 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93310 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I guess the question is whether they claim it works with uac2 (which windows does not include but osx does and linux does). If teac claims it works then I would hope this may. If you do this - please ssh in when it is in the "DAC not connected" state and then let me have the dmesg output. It may be something simple which is preventing it being detected. However its difficult to diagnose from afar. Triode wrote: > ... original firmware (have you tried that yet?) ... Well first: sorry for being a bit slow, I have never been into Linux, and even less into programming, up to now. Now, as far as I understand, your fix in Kernel #9 adresses the recognition of the (otherwise non-Linux-compatible) Teac. I suspect as well, that this should be quite similar in my dac. I have the impression, that the firmwares are provided by the vendor of the TE8802L chip, which means, that my audio-gd might as a matter of fact have the same bug in the firmware. And I supposed as you, that, if it is supposed to work with the Teac with the original firmware on it, there is good chance it works on mine. Has somewone seen it working on one of those te8802-based Teac anyway? So I flashed the original firmware back to the 8802-based digital interface. When I tried this with your original EDO - kernel, SBT booted up and showed directly the screen, where the sound card has to be choosen. And in this case, no usb-dac appeared at all (only analog/dig or dig only could been chosen from). The difference now is: With the 8802-interface with the original firmware installed, it stays indefnitely at a screen that says "DAC not connected". diego's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40897 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93310 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I think you need to find out what the linux special version does vs the original firmware (have you tried that yet?) If there is no change to the frequency shown by cat ever then I am not convinced the async feedback is working. For the 44.100 case it may well be that the two frequencies are close enough when both devices have warmed up so that the frequencies are quite close together. However I would be expecting small changes in frequency report - not the large ones you are seeing. Sounds like something is up with that firmware. Did you look at the dmesg log - its may be that it is the same error as the Teac - depends on who writes the firmware. Anyway this looks to resolve a bug which the Teac definitely suffers from as far as the alsa list is concerned and if you are hitting the same problem may improve it.. I'm wondering if your linux test firmware has other bugs in it for other sample rates. So try this with the original firmware too and look at the dmesg for each case. Thanks Triode, this gives again hope! TEAC uses TE8802. However, I suspect, that a matching firmware is needed, to have it even "seen" by the SBT. At least, this is my experience. I use a TE8802-audio-gd-Digital Interface. When I have the standard firmware (made for win and mac) flashed onto the module, and I connect that to the Touch, the interface just does not show up as available sound card in the EDO-list of available digital outputs. I suspect however, that this is more a "declaratory" issue, than a really different firmware programming. Anyway, I will try it out as soon as I can and let you know, if it worked, with my audio-gd, that has this "linux test firmware" flashed onto it. PS The TE8802-vendor does not reply anymore to my mails, even though I have written a couple of times. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Async USB Dac Experiments - testers wanted...
USB test kernel #9 There is a patch on the alsa development list which looks like it may be relavent to the Teac UD-H01 support. It looks like this patch is speculative and unproven (i.e. no one has responded to the patch author saying it works...) However I've applied this patch to the touch kernel and hosted as Usb Test Kernel #9 If you have a Teac UD-H01 or other device then you may want to try it. It may also be worth trying for other devices using the same interface chip. To try: 1) Install EDO 2) Add my usb test repo to the additional repositories box at the bottom of the LMS plugins page: Code: http://triodeapplets.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/usbtestrepo.xml 3) Install the Kernel Updater app 4) Go to settings > advanced > kernel updater and select and install kernel #9 Please post what demsg says here together with whether you are able to select the usb output with this. I've no idea if it works, but the bug fixed by the patch does seem a reasonable bug to fix. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Async USB Dac Experiments - testers wanted...
Hi there TE8802L worked with EDO app when using it with a USB-input-module of audio-gd that is flashed with a test firmware. However, it does only work correctly with 16b/44.1k - files. Trying with 24b/96K - files crackled. Details are in this post: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?94512-Announce-Enhanced-Digital-Output-app-USB-Dac-and-192k-Digital-Ouput&p=707174&viewfull=1#post707174 What is important here: As an alternative, I wanted to try the procedure in Triods Experimental Kernels, so I tried the procedure of this thread's first post. However, I found only the Kernel Update plugin. The "USB Audio Ouput" - Plugin was just not there (even though obviously I had correctly entered the LMS Web settings). I supposed, that this "USB Audio Ouput" had been replaced by this EDO - app. So I tried installing both: Kernel updater and EDO. Kernel updater showed Kernel #7 and Kernel #8. But when trying to install them, the download did not even start and I got the message that the update failed. I assume, they were not found on the server or the server was down or something. I also tried installing only Kernel Updater alone (after a factory reset of course), assuming that maybe, both apps were together in one now. However, kernel update would not work anyway (only with the EDO-app that did it as expected, but there is no choice on experimental Kernels). @TRIODE: How can I help you, developping the EDO-app, in order to work with TE8802? Can I send you any useful logs or screenshots...? Unfortunately I do not have permission to send you the experimental firmware I got. Best regards and thanks again to Triode for developping this. diego's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40897 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93310 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Async USB Dac Experiments - testers wanted...
Triode, thinking some more about this. If DIV2 is really set to 1 for both 48K and 96K, then PM must be different for these two cases (unless external logic changes the master clock rate, which would seem silly). I assume the master clock for 48K, 96K, (and therefore 192K) is 24.476 Mhz. Then 48K requires a divide by 16 to generate a 1.5298 Mhz bit clock, 96 K would require a divide by 8, (and 192K a divide by 4). If DIV2 is set to one for 48K and 96K, then PV would have to be 3 for 48K, 1 for 96K (and zero for 192K, if DIV2 stayed at 1). I know you're very busy with the USB work, but when you get a chance you might want to look closely at the DIV2 and PM bit settings for all cases. With kernal 5, 192K files play at 1/2 speed. They are not downsampled by the server. With kernal 6, they play at correct speed, but are downsampled by the server. I backed EDO out and forced installed 7.7.2 and then did a reset on top. Reinstalled EDO. Got audio cutting out at 172 sample rate again. Gave the high face more juice with a Y usb cable and hub, and drop outs went away. Switched to async usb last night on the .5 kernel. Played a 176.4 Neil Young had a drop out on one song. Upgraded to your .7 test kernel, played the whole album through no drop outs. The drop out might have been a one time thing, like I said I had just switched to Async USB last night. I do get a second drop out at the beginning of the first song on a sample rate change. Is that the nature of the beast, or is it something that might be addressed? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Async USB Dac Experiments - testers wanted...
New test kernel #7 available - to be used to try to find issues with remaining problematic usb 2 dacs To try: 1) Install Enhanced Digital Output as normal (see other thread) 2) follow step 3 at the start of this thread to add my usbtestrepo to your LMS plugin page 3) Install the "Kernel Updater" app 4) Navigate to Settings > Advanced > Kernel Updater and install test kernel #7 Test kernel #7 only supports spdif and usb outputs - if you set the output to "analog + digital" or default you won't get any output. It will also not work without EDO installed. The purpose of this kernel is to check whether usb dacs work better with the device drivers for the internal dacs removed. These seem to cause problems with aplay -l maintaining a list of output devices. I want to validate if this relates to similar problems seen with some usb2 dacs where the output device is not seen. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Async USB Dac Experiments - testers wanted...
I can confirm that the Eximus DP1 is doing fine with the latest applet and kernel. However, I still get occasional dropouts with 192KHz flac coded files, decoding done by SBT. 96KHz files play fine. I certainly have access to the I2S lines and can report the clock rates that appear there given a test kernal. I found the imx35 doc you mentioned. Can you point me toward a circuit or block diagram of how this device is connected inside the Touch? I no longer have the device open. I don't have access to test gear to look at the lock rates coming out of the imx35 soc chip so would be interested in trying some changes if other people can test the impact on the clock outputs. I would be interested in your reading of 46.4.2 of the processor reference manual - (I think available from the freescale site) - do you think changing the div2 stage would result in the right clocks? Hi Triode, Any plans for making 192K available on the I2S/analog side? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Async USB Dac Experiments - testers wanted...
My GT40 came and I tested with the EDO app, and all fine, with or without Hama USB hub. Serious listening testing will have to wait, but I'm up and running with USB DAC, which is great. Sadly, with Touch Toolbox 3.0 on top, sound was very garbled, with or weithout hub, so I've posted that result in Klaus' TT thread in Audio Asylum forum. So I'm mainly happy, and delighted with the ease of setup of the EDO applet. Triode, very many thanks. Let me know if you want any further details for your success list. Sorry misread your previous post - happy to email you the patches if you PM me an email address (prior to making them more widely available) I think the rDac was the one which had a problem with the syncinterval - it asks for a value which is too high for the linux usb scheduler, so my code reduces this. It really depends on the age of your ehci-sched.c as it looks to me that more recent versions of this may allow the syncpipe to be scheduled. I have kept it as per the Logitech version with some minor patches to the sound/usb code to change the sync interval: This is from snd_usb_set_format_quirk() in sound/usb/quirks.c [which is post the refactoring of sound/usb so depends on the age of your kernel whether you have it] Code: + // check for long syncintervals which we can't schedule and reduce + if (snd_usb_get_speed(subs->dev) == USB_SPEED_FULL && subs->syncinterval >= 6) { + printk("async usb sync interval too high reducing %d -> 6\n", subs->syncinterval); + subs->syncinterval = 6; + } Triode's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93310 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
