Transporter, why do you still have an smps with no shielding inside the
unit?

Especially when it's a sales person trying to drum up customers.
If I had purchased a $20K digital processor and discovered it was
powered by a $40. off the shelf SMPS, I'd also be very careful around
sales people. ;-)

in a $20K digital processor isn't
the same the engine in a $70K Porche.
As a percentage of product cost/development, Porche puts a lot more
time money into designing and building their engines than TacT or
Meridan puts into power supplies.

All TacT units can handle 16/44.1, but SQ improves when feed files
upsampled to 48 with Adobe Audition, or 96 using MS Vista.
A Vista PC upsampling to 24/96, connected to a TacT via an RME Fireface
is an excellent playback set up.

SMPS units because they're cheap and conform with
European power supply directives, but that doesn't mean they can't be
improved.
FYI3- power supply noise is the biggest cause of jitter in digital
circuits.

The data output is free of error and jitter. The idea that computer
audio is superior is because it re-reads and buffers is false.

Simple/Cheap EMI/RFI Solution- install some a ferrite cores at both ends
of the 6' non shielded leads. Double ot triple wrap the wire around the
cores. See www.steward.com for more information.

The Oppo is an excellent player and an excellent unit to mod.
Off the digital outputs, my Pioneer DVDP sounds better than the SB3. It
can also output my Classic Records DADs and DVD-As made from 16/44.1
recordings with DVD-Audio Solo at 24/96.

Reducing the digital output on the SB3(6.5)from 100 down to 95
helps deal with these poor recordings and stops the TacT's input
indicator from flashing. Reducing the digital level down to 80 does not
make the music sound more open.
