I have been lurking for a LONG time - been busy with summer activities and
the Chevelle. So I guess a quick progress report is in order.
Recap - car is my first one - a 1972 2-door coupe, 307 2bbl California car.
What fun is that?
I got the frame stripped, hot-dip galvanized, and then painted

I just finished the process of galvanizing my frame and coating with POR15
Chassiscoat Black. It rained the day they galvanized the frame, and they
stored it outside until I had a chance to pick it up the next day. Needless
to say, the frame was covered with oxidation - white powder.
Merry Christmas folks I have a problem I have to address after all the
beer is gone.
I got a steering box out of a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee I plan to swap to the
Chevelle after the new year. Problem is, I cannot remove the Jeep pitman

Folks-
I have heard both sides of this question so I send it to the collective
for some opinions.
I have my car stripped in order to pull the body off the frame this

firewall is stripped, A/C is removed, basically I have a

I don't remember my last post - been so busy with work and stuff. Recap: I
am building up my first car, a 72 Chevelle I bought from my sister when I
was 15 years old. Planning on building up a fairly nice (but not show)
pro-touring machine.
Howdy - I have been lurking somewhat intermittently because of several trips
for Uncle Sam this summer, the last of which ending about 2 weeks ago.
Turns out that the Air Force may want to move me about a year from now, so I
had to kick up the project a notch. Goal is to get it into paint this

Okay - so I will not consider the fact that the quarters are sealed with
filler as an indication that they were replaced at some point. One has
obviously had work on it - the other is straight as an arrow and rust free.
Well, one out of two ain't that bad...

I have looked in vain for some time for an answer to this question - and
have found nothing. Maybe someone here can help.

These same two cars have been on Ebay together before. The reserve was
something ridiculous, so they did not sell. If memory serves me correct,
the reserve was over 90K before - not sure what they may be asking now.

Who knows when the factory stopped using Lead as their filler of choice?

Depends on the car. Since I would more then likely need to pull some cash
out of the Chevelle fund, I want to keep it to less than $5K for now. I am
not looking for a great car - just a good solid body I can put together

Took the car for a drive and got the temp up to 180*, and noticed that the car was running very rough below 1200 RPM, but I could keep it at about 800 if I worked the gas pedal like a fiend.

Thomas,
Sounds like you may just have a vacuum leak. Could be a bad hose, like to the distributor or the big one to the brake booster. Check all those, and maybe even block them all off and check your timing and lastly the idle mixture on
