i agree with Jeff, try and get slightly newer kit if you can, or anything
that will at least run 12.2. Nothing wrong with the 4000 tho, if you are
using it as a FR switch.

Hello all,
I currently have a 4000M for my frame switch, 1-2511,1-2610, and 1-2524 in
my home lab. What other routers would you recommend to complete the router
portion of the lab? Will 3 additional 2500 be sufficient?
Thanks

do not bother with any 2500 series if you are starting out now. IOS
improvements and requriements are slowly phasing them out, look into 1750,
2600, 3600 series only. 12.3 does not even run on any 4000 or 4500 series
and only IP plus for 2500 series. Do not limit yourself

When you run your hand across the keyboard, do you touch it or is this a
psychic thing :-)
I'd check the parity on your terminal. It may be setting the wrong
parity for the router but ignoring incorrect received parity.

I purchased some Cisco 4500/3810/2600 routers to setup the home lab. They
all have old IOS and with only 4MB of flash for 4500s, but 3810s and 2600s
have 8MB of flash. I like to upgrade to atleast version 12. Can you guys
recommend what IOS will be best for the real CCIE Lab? By the way, does
max out the RAM and FLASH on all of your routers. You might spend a
total of 300.00 USD on this, but it will be worth it.

Hi there,
I suggest get 3 2600 series routers. Even though 2500 would also do, 2600
has some value added services which the 2500 don't offer. Just a thought! :)
There are other things needed which I am sure others will help you out with.
Good luck with your lab set-up.

Here's what I typically recommend and sell for a home lab:
Two Cisco 2501 routers, 16MB Dram/16MB Flash
Three Cisco 2513 routers, 16MB Dram/16MB Flash
Two Cisco 2503 routers, 16MB Dram/16MB Flash
One Cisco 2511 router, 16MB Dram/16MB Flash
One Cisco 2522 router, 16MB Dram/16MB Flash
All

The DCE/DTE cable is all you need. On the cable that is marked DCE you must
use the clockrate 64000 under the seral port you are using.
If the cable is not marked, do a show controller int s0 and it will show

The Catalyst 2924XL uses IOS . Catalyst 5000 series switches uses CatOS (the
