You may try indeed to configure your int bri0 as you would do normaly, but if the ISDN line is coming from a PABX it may cause problems there. If the ISDN interface is not activated it looks dead towards the PABX which in his side will cause an fatal error and in the worst case disable the line

Hell yeah. We use ISDN to automatically failover. With over 350 remote sites, it's not uncommon to have a main link to an office fail somewhere. With automatic failover, our users often don't even know something's failed. Manual intervention? You've got to be kidding.
