There have been discussions concerning replacing a Pismo hard drive
and the need for an ATA5 rather than ATA6 drive.
Has anyone tried a Toshiba drive with a multi interface of ATA
2/3/4/5/6 like the Toshiba 40GB 2.5 Super Slimline (9.5mm) HDD
MK4025GAS? One specification sheet said

Well, on the Lombard, it's between the S-Video and VGA outputs. Either
way, it's still really easy to work on a Lombard or Pismo, as long as
you know what you're doing.

(and attached LaCie hard disk). What is the simplest way of doing
this? I guess I need to hook my VHS recorder to the Pismo, but via
which outputs/imputs? What software do I use? And what format do I

You need either a card called a CAPSURE for your pcmcia slot, or you need
an analogue tgo firewire converter. I have a spare one of the former I
could sell, while many manufacturers sell the latter worldwide...

IMHO, if you're going to watch anything on a Pismo or Lombard, boot
into OS 9. It saves a whole lot of hassle, plus on the Lombard, it's
the only way to go. I know this is slightly off the thread topic, but
it's somewhat related, but I've been having troubles with discs
refusing to mount on my

Well that is good news as, as much as I like my old
pismo, the eMac would have more grunt (G4, faster

with the dual core machines. Actually my G5 dualie runs cooler than
my Pentium machine (judged both by reported processor temps and the
heat from the fans and the fans on my dualie almost run more than the
lowest speed.)

Lombard and Pismo managing extraordinary battery life on one or two

A Pismo has a single CardBus / PC Card (PCMCIA) slot, no PCI. Yes
you can put a CardBus USB 2.0 card
The easiest method for either a Pismo or Lombard is to use a cardbus
adapter, as far as I know. I'm sure someone else knows which models
work best, but as far as the basics go, the cardbus is the way to go.

recognised fine in OS9.22.
However, I can't install Tiger in a drive partitioned into two. There
is OS 9.22 on the second partition of 8 gb and a 32 gb space for
OS10.4 on the first.
While the Tiger installation proceeds

install the os over the 9.2 on the second partition and then use the
first 8 gb for extra storage, or just start again and format the full

10.3 install to that drive. I did not partition the drive in any way and
all works just fine, so I'd have to guess

While it's true the Pismo doesn't have the limit, that it worked in
this case isn't a valid test. You can do the same thing to those
machines with the limit and it may work. It depends on certain files
being located in the first 8Gb. The limit isn't on how big a drive
you can have

Yes, when the original LG CD drive died I replaced it with a Sony DVD/
CD-RW drive, works fine. I never got the faceplate to fit, so
I replaced the dying DVD-ROM in my wife's Pismo with a Samsung combo
drive from a Dell laptop. I swapped the internals in the caddy and
used Patchburn to fully support burning. A little fine sanding and
superglue on the bezel and you can hardly tell it's not the original.

Uses DVD-R and DVD-RW, think that the mac line currently uses DVD+R,
shouldn't be an issue with finished disks. Just means that you will
need stocks of different media if you get a more current mac. They
