This is a SLES12 question.
I extended an LVM and DID NOT run the dasd_configure command.

Hi all,
We are migrating Linux CKD DASD to a new DS8100.
We have two bare-metal (LPAR) linux server's running. (no zVM).
One is SLES8 and one is SLES10.
For the SLES8, I plan to:
1. vi /etc/zipl.conf and change the DASD= to the new devices
2. zipl
3. mkinitrd
4. shutdown
5. migrate dasd
6.
I just setup SSH client on z/OS for someone a few weeks ago.
I'll share my notes with you, in case one of these helps.
Never know...
1. First, here is a sample SCP batch job:
//* SCP PUT FROM MAINFRAME USS TO UNIX SERVER
//*
//S1 EXEC PGM=BPXBATCH,REGION=8M,
// PARM='SH nohup scp -vvv ~/test.txt
Just curious...will SUDO work for ALL zLinux admin tasks (SuSE and Redhat)

Or, is root ID needed for certain tasks?

So (after the backup/restore) we need to change the DASD= device numbers

What are the implications of using same VOLID's for 440RES W01 W02 etc.
Does zVM detect duplicate VOLSERs (like z/OS) during IPL?
I'd prefer to change these VOL ID's and make

the proper subdirectory is still in /lib/modules that should work. When

on the DASD, you're free to either choose the old
ldl low level format and have just one partition (no need to fdasd
then), or to choose the new cdl low level format and add partitions
with fdasd afterwards (reccomended, we suggest you also to have a
swap partition as well).

What is latest swapfile size recommendation when running under zVM?

Is it possible to setup a GUESTLAN between zVM and the
SuSE SLES7 RAM SYSTEM (i.e. initial starter system)?
Or do I have to use CTC first, then install the SuSE 2.4.7 system
and then implement the guestlan between Linux and VM ???

Have been looking for this answer, but can not find it in manuals
or in any lists.
We just got a new z800 with new osa-express gb cards.
How do we configure the cards to force full-duplex and turn off auto-neg ??
The Advanced Functions CHPID windows don't seem to let me do this.

I'll be making a decision on SuSE or Redhat for our first "semi-production"
work on S/390 linux in January.
Couple of questions:
1. Which dist will play better for puttin up Oracle dbases?
2. Should I go with 64bit across the board on my new z800 IFL?
(Even for our linux routers and sma

So according to the statements below...I CAN use SUSE SLES7
to play the guest lan game, using QDIO instead of virtual hipersockets?
Am I correct in this assumption?
Any testimony from someone who has setup guest lans with SUSE SLES7?
