libmysqlclient.la in /usr/lib (instead of /usr/local/lib, where it is really

There were no errors and it listed a number of rows affected and a
time. tried the command again and it said that the file already
existed. The problem was the directory path that I was looking in. I
couldn't see it in the GUI but in the terminal a find pointed me to the

One other problem came up, the configure script looks for LinuxThreads in
/usr/include where of course FreeBSD stores them in
/usr/local/include/linuxthreads so the flag that gets set for linuxthreads
doesn't, at least not in my version of mysql 4.09

Try to modify the autoexec.bat if you are using Win9x or the Path User env
in Winnt. Another choice in some systems is to modify DOSTART.bat or
something like that in \windows.
A way to keep the previous setting of the PATH env is to issue a stat like

Computer icon and selecting Properties, then clicking the Environment
variables on the Advanced tab. Make sure you set the PATH under the
System Variables instead of User Variables if you want MySQL to be

After thinking this a bit, it'd be very nice if the MySQL setup program
offered an option to automatically add mysql\bin to the PATH environment

The config file you are looking for is /etc/my.cnf, I believe

but now I wonder if it wouldn't be better to use the
so called "key path method" where you put the whole
top hierarchy info of a node into one column like:
root/parent1/parent23/parent40/... and so on.
