it went well. I had already downloaded all the security updates and bug

Selecting logout from KDE (mandrake 9.1) you get an opportunity to reboot. If
you choose to do so, sometimes you get a window with a dragon and three

Are you SURE it's the OS? I have had bad hardware do this to me. For me it

On the contrary.
If I can determine (or more to the point -- if my BigBrother installation can determine) that a server is hung and a reboot will be necessary (I still have to work with M$ boxes), then a simple call (which BB can automate) would reboot

Here's the PowerKey 650, which allows individual individual plugs to be switched seperately by phone:

Somebody told me about a device that one can use to
reboot a computer by phone. What you do is dial the

and then powers on the computer to which it's attached.
Anybody know what such a thing is called?

Hi,
I have a Sony vaio (Athlon 1G) with Mandrake 8.2. My problem
is that reboot from linux does not work. I tried
"shutdown -r now" and reboot using lilo (the option in the
kdm gui).
When I use "shutdown -r now", the laptop displays
"Sony" and it stops there (I can see the harddisk light
glowing.

How come many of you have server up times of many days and even months?
I find that after approx. 2-3 days I need to reboot my MDK 8 box else
the modem will not respond when I use kppp and the Software Manager only
partially displays. I have 64 Mb of RAM and a separate 32 Mb video card.
What's up
The only time I reboot my servers is for hardware, kernal upgrades, and to
make sure a new service will start on reboot.
