i was wondering if perhaps someone could let me know where the config files
for the kde start menu are at...i just compiled and installed 3.1 last
night but can't figure out how exactly to add all the applications that were
in my old kde menu to my new one. it would be much easier if i could
a few days ago i was having trouble adding fluxbox to my window manager list
in kdm. i decided to go ahead and upgrade to kde 3.1. now fluxbox is added
to my list but there are too additional problems. for some reason i cannot
get the new kdm to boot kde, but kde works fine when i run startx
I have been having a couple of problems with kdm and printing i was hoping
someone could help me out with.
first off..whenever i reboot linux, i have to readd the printer every time.
i have yet to figure out why. my printer is detected properly and prints the
test page during mandrake
i discovered the same thing but was afraid to say it. now i wont be the
only one being flamed. How ever, many of the same things that are talked
about here apply to redhat as well as linux in general. thanks

I just installed mandrake 9 on my work computer, and can't seem to
resolve the video card issue. It is a pci version of the radeon 7000 32

BTW, i'm using text install since i think my graphics card doesn't support
the graphical installation. Also, i didn't use any partitioning software,
just the M8.2 CD.

I have been trying to get Mandrake 8.0 installed for
the past couple of days. However, I seem to be getting
an error called a segmentation fault around the part
of the install where you select the packages you want.
I want to install linun, but I can't. I am running a

'startx' gets you back into x, and from the console 'poweroff' shuts your
machine down, if you're setup to boot into x.
When you next boot, everything should be back to as it was before, unless
you've completely stuffed it up in the meantime, of course! ;o)

My floppy/zip drives are having IO errors in Mandrake 7.2. I hacked the /etc/fstab file and tried setuid and set it so that all users can use it... but to no avail. The messages I get are when in root "input/output error". And in a regular user "Permission Denied". I thought maybe its a

The installer did not recognize any VIA Chipset, Bridges, Controllers
etc. at all, it's option was to ingore them. WHY? Yet it did
recognize my VIA Rhine NIC for the install.

When booting up for the first time my kernel locks up. I think this
could be due to the fact that I am using the hard drive optimizations
with the ata 66. I don't know this for sure though. It locks up after
INIT: starting runlevel 5. If somebody could help me with this.

For the D drive, I never created it. It came from the manufacturer with
two partitions already on it. But D is FAT32. ANd yes, I was able to

could try reducing the maximum
PPP frame lengths as this will improve the success

Regardless, it sounds like a permissions problem
with your realplayer file.
1. get into your console as Superuser
2. type in: chmod 755 /usr/lib/RealPlayer7/realplay
that should correct the permissions problem.
