point of having the memory if you don't use it? linux will always eat

Usually if you don't set mem=512m on your boot loader config, linux
will just eat all of your memory according to "free". When I appended
this on my boot options. the issue seems to be fixed. But I did not
notice performance differences though.

Tried it once. I dont think there was a significant increase in browsing
speed. Back then, my connection was ~50kbps with 4 clients IIRC.
Also, my machine (our gateway, local dns cache, squid) wasn't that fast.
(Athlon Tbird 1.4ghz with 256MB RAM and ATA100 harddrive)
IMO, it's a waste of effort
