the moment, my system seems to be A-OK. However, I miss having the
security of knowing that at any time, I could reboot and have the
system's integrity validated with diagnostics results being displayed.

bad taste in their mouths about linux because it was so terminal-based.
(Even if using a terminal has definite advantages, for sure. Just not

Since I can't install (or
make install), there is no fsthost32 or fsthost64 file to run. When I
try to make this is what I get:

When running fsthost in the terminal, "Command not found" is all I

I do have a pulse bridge running, but when I start Spotify, it shows up by
its own name as a JACK client. Unless the pulse bridge is what allows this,
in which case it works differently than I thought.

these programs. For instance, in my case the type of music I make and the
recording approaches I take mean that I have only ever used:

As you can see, for a user like me, there a
g off Network Manager (which will need to be installed in Lucid
if you wish to get a wireless connection). Just right-click on the app and
uncheck 'enable networking'.

under the -realtime kernel. As a result, the package didn't builld under
any of my kernels, and I lost my video driver. I had to entirely uninstall
the -realtime kernel, including all headers, befo

kernel. After instal this menu can be found by going to the menu, system
settings, and open KXStudio Settings. On the 'Additional Software' tab you
can check boxes to install the audio geared kernel. :)

I don't know what the actual message means, though.

I'm guessing it has something to do with that third one, but if so, how do I
go about getting your new kernels? I seem to have the appropriate

Network Manager is disabled.

(which in the case of ATI, is often the only
one that will correctly render 3D, or even work at all) causing issues with
suspend and resume, or something. Whatever the reason, it's a bad bug that
will show up on lots of systems and make the splash screen an eyesore. It's
a shame it ended up in the LTS.

e using a
version of Ubuntu that is running Network Manager, it is probably a good
idea to disable networking while using Jack.
That should get you started. Of course, there' s a lot of other stuff to
learn, and that takes time.
