Ed, all,
1. no clue. probably the usual marketing crap.
2. NPE has a single cpu that performs all the tasks.
NSE has a PXF 'coprocessor' that can offload some tasks from the
main CPU and therefore it could perform better in some cases.

Also, what are the IOS versions of the routers? Possibly a bug or
incompatibility between versions?

Hey folks, I just saw a strange incident with a pix 501 in china. To be
breif,
this pix was doing ipsec to a site in america, PAT and smtp port
redirection.
One day out of the blue, all the access-list entries and crypto match rules
were gone.. poof! all the access-groups were too. The static com
I bet there's a switch in the mix somewhere and the switch is doing IGMP
snooping. The switch doesn't see an IGMP join (because routers don't bother
to join for "well-known" groups like "all routers.") So the switch doesn't
forward these well-known multicasts. This in an infamous problem. Microsoft

A router, by default, is a member of the 224.0.0.2 group. Here are a
few of the reserved multicast addresses:
224.0.0.0 Base Address (Reserved) [RFC1112,JBP]
224.0.0.1 All Systems on this Subnet[RFC1112,JBP]
224.0.0.2 All Routers on this Subnet
Hello ...
"Illegal multicast group address" is the output when using ip igmp
join-group 224.0.0.2 command, the address should not be one of the reserved

Are these routers plugged into a switch or are they connected back to back?
Maybe it is your switch that is not config to pass multicast or maybe it
does not support multicast.

I seem to recall that the Administrative Distance of static routes that
