All the episodes so far have been pretty interesting.

As someone who moved here about a year ago I feel like I haven't even scratched
the surface of Brooklyn.

I haven't been to Academy yet. I mostly go to Halcyon and A1 for used and
L.I.E.S. releases ;)

some tech fest 09 highlights for me:
P Maack from D.I.E. lambasting us techno geeks for not grinding
with the

Jay Denham bringing it strong! I wasnt sure what to expect after
the more
chill sounding last album but this is what I imagine seeing him
back in the

Mills!!! Ear bleeding sound, great crowd (even greater after it
thinned out
a bit), and Mills bringing it cerebral style. Though technically
not quite
up there with the time he came out to the west coast, the selection
was just

want I needed.

disappointments:
The Real Detroit Stage. I'm sure it sounded cool after a few drinks
at the

arrangement I

have ever seen in my life. so sad.
Shady promoter tactics. One of the artists I was most curious to

apparently was not even scheduled to perform. He didnt show up and
then we

noticed in the program a tiny little
asterik next to his name and a tiny comment at the bottom saying
subject to
change. this was only on Benga's name! typical Detroit tactics I
suppose

hooj choons:
Definetely was noticing alot of anthems this year. Francois K
played what
seemed to me like the detroit classics version of Girl Talk,
remixing on the
fly etc. Unfortunately it left me and my friends a bit cold. I
guess we want

to hear some new music these days.
heard french kiss a few times, of course from Derrick but he
didnt indulge
in the full slow down female interlude. Also heard blackwater a few
places.

But the runaway hit of the fest which I am sure we will hear
more of this Summer was a track from a pretty unknown serbian dude,
gramaphone dzie with a great jazz standard samplefest called Why
Dont You.

We heard this cut played by Minx, Delano Smith as well as Luciano.

(313) italoboyz - victor cassanova (mothership records)

2007-06-19 Thread Ramon Crespo

Mothership transmission #1… Ricardo Villalobos says it best: “Viktor
Casanova is a record with a huge surprises effect. I play it since I
got it from the guys 3 month ago and every time I get the same
reactions…It has been a while, since I had a track which caused that
much attention on the dance floor. It happens not that often, that
every single time I play a track, lots of people ask me what it is.
People even ask, if it’s me who puts the opera singer sample over the
record…Viktor Casanova is the best example, that the only really
important thing about a good track is the idea behind it, nothing
more and nothing less.Add two very sexy minimal-tech remixes by
Samim and Lee Curtiss and you have a truly amazing record. mothership
is the new project from Claude VonStroke. The concept for the label
is to create a deeper more experimental techno based sound than the
tech-funk sound of his other label, dirtybird. A large percentage of
the proceeds from mothership will go to a school in downtown Detroit
that teaches and enables children to learn how to make music (yes,
even electronic music!) We are very excited to be able to give
something back to the community that helped shape and define our
music.Enjoy.

2006-11-07 Thread Ramon Crespo
November 9th brings Part 2 of Leftroom’s First birthday celebrations to
T-Bar, and we have a massive one in store for you…

Jesse ‘Heartthrob’ has been touring non stop ever since his first full
release on Minus, and his live show has been wowing fans from Ibiza, to
Sonar, to Detroit. He will be bringing some birthday spirit with him for
this one, so no one will be leaving disappointed.

Craig Richards really doesn’t need too much introduction in London.
Farringdon’s musical mastermind has been a supporter of Leftroom from
the start, and the T-Bar is still the best place to see him play outside
of room 1 at Fabric.

Still going strong in the middle of his Leftroom tour, you have the
delights of Matt Tolfrey on hand for warm up duties also.

Please get down early to take in the whole party from early on, through
the madness that will ensue.

(313) laurent garnier - the cloud making machine

2005-01-19 Thread Ramon Crespo

Hey 313

Figured some of you would like to know about this.

news from residentadvisor.net :-)

F Communications main man and one of the most credible, widely respected
and varied producers to represent the French has his new album slated
for delivery next month.

Laurent Garnier's new album, The Cloud Making Machine, is said to be his
most personal album to date. This, his forth album, is to be released on
the well distributed Mute record label on February 22.

The album features a host of collaborations with musicians across an
incredible array of genres and sounds. This includes Norwegian jazz
pianist Bugge Wesseltoft (who previously played on stage with Garnier at
Sonar), Tunisian singer and master oude player Dhafer Youssef, Scan X on
guitar (also responsible for sound design), Sangoma Everett with
percussion and vocals, Marc Chalosse on keyboards and Philippe Nadaud
with his saxophone. It is this mix of talent that mesh with Garnier's
incredible style to provide The Cloud Making Machine – not to be
confused with you're standard artist albums.

Laurent Garnier – The Cloud Making Machine Tracklist
01. The Cloud Making Machine Part 1
02. 9:01-9:06
03. Barbiturik Blues
04. Huis Clos
05. Act 1 Minotaure Ex.
06. First Reaction (V2)
07. Controlling The House Part 2
08. (I Wanna Be) Waiting For My Plane
09. Jeux D'enfants
10. The Cloud Making Machine Part 3

Personally looking forward to this like crazy. I hope there's a tour
planned and there's some stateside dates.

Regards,
Ramon

We humans aren't perfect but everyone on this list goes up to make it

I completely agree. I'm definitely going next year. I had an amazing
time this year. It was really great to see so many people up for this
kind of music and totally have a great time. It was a very different
contrast to Miami. People up there are always representing Detroit (hats

in a similar environment.

cheers,
lrh

I also work in a cublicle based job. Im a unix geek, but I do listen to
techno at work sometimes I get comments like turn it off or turn it down
.. other times when I'm listening to more minimal stuff I get comments
like if you wanted modem chatter I couldve recorded myself dialing up to
aol at night and sold it to you for cheaper than what you paid for that
cd. *lol*. Anyway its a pretty intresting place and I try to use
headphones to help me focus on my work and sometimes I do have to answer
the phone so I have the headphones in cue mode (one on one off). Today I
listened to Sasha's Involver and got no complaints .. hmm intresting. :)

Great topic btw!

set friday night was uninspired, predictable (due to previous talk on here
of his dropping out of space, nirvana, white stripes, funky breaks, etc.),
and in some parts downright crappy. he's usually so good at walking he
fine line between techno and trance-- fri. night he stumbled right into
the cheesy side. maybe he was drunk. touch your nose, laurent, and then
recite the alphabet backwards. in any case, out of the 4 or so hours that
he played, an added total of only about an hour and a half wound up
sounding like i was sure it would. and that's adding up all the times he
went back and forth between sounding cheesy and sounding like laurent
(which came in 30min snippets). being one of the people that was
convinced he could do no wrong, i sure was let down. what happen???
guess i'll go back to listening to the detroit disc of his box set and

trying to relive the magic that was that night.

honestly it was my first garnier experience and i thought he was great.
my only complaint was the sound system at sound-bar. It was poor and he
was really pushing it. I thought he played some really nice deep and
melodic techno. The first hour I dont think I heard a single record from
this decade. It was great to finally hear Emotion Content. Windchime
sounded amazing and I think its going to get a lot of play in the course
of the next few months.

I had decided on Friday to go and I was lucky enough to find a cheap
flight from Miami and I had the time of my life. Here's some of the
songs I was able to remember him playing add some more if you remember.

nirvana - lithium
white stripes - 7 nation army
new order - confusion (koma and bones mix)
mad mike and perception - windchime
dj rolando - aguila
funk d'void - emotional content
prodigy - out of space
anthony rother - body talk?
nitzerebb - murderous (phil kieran mix)
marshall jefferson - move your body
laurent garnier - the man with the red face

I also heard a few things off his excess luggage cd as well that was
nice to be able to hear those records out as well. I just hope that next
time he comes a little closer to home or that Miami wakes up and books
him at a nice venue. I think he would be great here since he crosses
genre's so well. I thought he was relentless techno for the most part
and he was always really energetic behind the turntables.

Looking forward to Movement 2004.

Ramon

(313) Plastikman Live in Montreal 06.03.04

2004-03-03 Thread Ramon Crespo

Didnt see this posted so here's the info:

PRESS RELEASE

FIRST PLASTIKMAN LIVE SHOW IN 9 YEARS
ANNOUNCED TODAY

Windsor, Ontario

March 2nd, 2004

Richie Hawtin announced today the first Plastikman live show on
plastikman.com. The event will take place June 3rd, 2004 in Montreal,
Canada as the opening event to this year’s Mutek festival (mutek.ca). It
will be the first live performance of Plastikman material since 1995.

Hawtin describes the show as a rare, one-night performance incorporating
multiple media with the artist controlling all parameters of the event.
As with his DJ sets, he will also involve unprecedented new artistic
technologies — all developed and customised for this show.

The following entities are partners in producing the show:

Mutek — www.mutek.ca http://www.mutek.ca
Derivative Inc. — www.derivativeinc.com http://www.derivativeinc.com
Crush Inc. — www.crushinc.com http://www.crushinc.com
Ableton, AG — www.ableton.com http://www.ableton.com
Digidesign — www.digidesign.com http://www.digidesign.com

Turkish video artist Ali Mahmut Demirel, who directed the eye-popping
video for the ‘Disconnect’ (novamute/Minus) single, as well as new media
event producer/curator Kevin McHugh have both contributed to Hawtin’s plans.

Previous Plastikman live shows have achieved almost mythic renown.
Artists, critics, and fans still talk about performances at Glastonbury
Festival, Tribal Gathering, and underground events in Detroit. In the
years since, Hawtin has increased his profile as a DJ and producer,
constantly updating, innovating and pioneering new technologies. The
current Plastikman album ‘Closer’ is out now on novamute/M-nus.

It's coming. He wants to do it right and with the right label. It's a big
leap from the last.

the new mixes are horrible .. the phil kieran has that standard
lawnmower bassline he's using atm and it does nothing to improve it and
the fip side was horrible too. I haven't heard the agoria mix so I can't
count on it.

anyone else have any comments about the new mixes?

Re: (313) Kevin Saunderson

Cyclone Wehner wrote:

I caught Mr Kevin Saunderson on the weekend here and he was in form!
The Sydney set went off, I really enjoyed it.
Well programmed night and great sets from locals Simon Caldwell and Biz-E in
a nice intimate venue, Chinese Laundry, at Slipp Inn.
The Melbourne event, at Godskitchen, was always going to be hit and miss
since it's primarily a trance/hard house/prog rave-up but the atmopshere in
the 'Detroit Techno' room was better than I thought, even if for the most
part the local DJs failed to acknowledge the Detroit theme and obstinately
played generic music.
Interestingly, Kevin played largely on Final Scratch at the second gig, I
have now come around to it. For a great DJ, who actually knows how to
utilise the mixer (incl. EQ), and create textures, there's no audible (or
significant visual) difference. It was amazing to see how he totally
changed the vibe in the room through sheer presence. It was also thrilling
to hear a new Inner City track, Say A Prayer, with vocals by Ann Saunderson
(who sang on Blackwater) with Paris on backgrounds. It's a beautiful,
beautiful, beautiful song in the tradition of Good Life but very 2003. It's
the kind of record you hear on first listen and go, Wow, what's that?

From what I understand there is an Inner City album ready to go, it's a

matter of finding a good label that won't impose any compromises. Also there
is a Reese Project album coming up with input from Paul Randolph. I believe
there is also a third Trust The DJ set due around Nov. All in all a lot to
look forward to.

some good news indeed. :) I want to hear that new Inner City stuff ..
2003 has been the return year for so many techno artists. Add Inner City
to the list. :)

I'm still waiting for an oppurtunity to hear Kevin live.

Ramon

PG Not sure what to expect either, he's doing a party at the newly
rennovated limelight (again), now known as avalon, w. rich hawtin + friends
for the plastikman record release party on 10-25.

Wink has just put together another acid style ep due for release on 10/21

This is from Ovum's mailout.

Wink

'20 to 20' is a collection of music that Josh Wink has been playing out
to packed dancefloors around the world. The7 tracks on this EP are his
secret weapons; The tracks that he relies on to devastate a crowd.

Wink turns to his trusty Roland 303 and crafts some of the most powerful
music in his career. Make no mistake... these tracks are for the club
and take you back to the Warehouse. Things have come full circle for
Wink as he delves into his Acid House roots.

Check it out guys. I've heard 2 of the tracks and I'm pretty impressed.
