(313) italoboyz - victor cassanova (mothership records)
Mothership transmission #1… Ricardo Villalobos says it best: “Viktor Casanova is a record with a huge surprises effect. I play it since I got it from the guys 3 month ago and every time I get the same reactions…It has been a while, since I had a track which caused that much attention on the dance floor. It happens not that often, that every single time I play a track, lots of people ask me what it is. People even ask, if it’s me who puts the opera singer sample over the record…Viktor Casanova is the best example, that the only really important thing about a good track is the idea behind it, nothing more and nothing less.Add two very sexy minimal-tech remixes by Samim and Lee Curtiss and you have a truly amazing record. mothership is the new project from Claude VonStroke. The concept for the label is to create a deeper more experimental techno based sound than the tech-funk sound of his other label, dirtybird. A large percentage of the proceeds from mothership will go to a school in downtown Detroit that teaches and enables children to learn how to make music (yes, even electronic music!) We are very excited to be able to give something back to the community that helped shape and define our music.Enjoy. http://www.wordandsound.de/article/48079 discuss?

I always take people as I find them and while I do have to spend some of my time listening to rumours, I always choose to ignore them and make up my own mind or I'll ask the individual outright. I've already started saving for DEMF 2005, I want to meet the people here, share a beer, some food and some rather dodgy dance movies. So rather than spend our energy on shouting each other down and checking out who's got the biggest, why don't we organise a party for us all to meet, play and eat in 2005? We have enough time to make it happen and we have the people. I have some resources that I'm happy to share - what do you all say? Cheers Martin I completely agree. I'm definitely going next year. I had an amazing time this year. It was really great to see so many people up for this kind of music and totally have a great time. It was a very different contrast to Miami. People up there are always representing Detroit (hats , t-shirts , etc). I love Miami, but its very different. I hope to drag up some more people from Florida to the 'D' next year. doris wrote: i don't know what's more disappointing- the fact that he couldn't decide between playing to the cheesedicks and playing like the laurent we know and love (and ultimately opting for the cheesedicks, being that they were in overwhelming attendence), or the fact that you, 313, were right. his set friday night was uninspired, predictable (due to previous talk on here of his dropping out of space, nirvana, white stripes, funky breaks, etc.), and in some parts downright crappy. he's usually so good at walking he fine line between techno and trance-- fri. night he stumbled right into the cheesy side. maybe he was drunk. touch your nose, laurent, and then recite the alphabet backwards. in any case, out of the 4 or so hours that he played, an added total of only about an hour and a half wound up sounding like i was sure it would. and that's adding up all the times he went back and forth between sounding cheesy and sounding like laurent (which came in 30min snippets). being one of the people that was convinced he could do no wrong, i sure was let down. what happen??? guess i'll go back to listening to the detroit disc of his box set and trying to relive the magic that was that night. honestly it was my first garnier experience and i thought he was great. my only complaint was the sound system at sound-bar. It was poor and he was really pushing it. I thought he played some really nice deep and melodic techno. The first hour I dont think I heard a single record from this decade. It was great to finally hear Emotion Content. Windchime sounded amazing and I think its going to get a lot of play in the course of the next few months. I had decided on Friday to go and I was lucky enough to find a cheap flight from Miami and I had the time of my life. Here's some of the songs I was able to remember him playing add some more if you remember. nirvana - lithium white stripes - 7 nation army new order - confusion (koma and bones mix) mad mike and perception - windchime dj rolando - aguila funk d'void - emotional content prodigy - out of space anthony rother - body talk? nitzerebb - murderous (phil kieran mix) marshall jefferson - move your body laurent garnier - the man with the red face I also heard a few things off his excess luggage cd as well that was nice to be able to hear those records out as well. I just hope that next time he comes a little closer to home or that Miami wakes up and books him at a nice venue. I think he would be great here since he crosses genre's so well. I thought he was relentless techno for the most part and he was always really energetic behind the turntables. Looking forward to Movement 2004. Regards, Ramon

They said it was 'tuff-sounding' and out through Greyhound distribution. It was not the Danny Krivit edit I was told, although the guy didn't seem to know much when I asked about that. There was no Transmat logo, it was just a white label. I am a bit suss on it. I didn't get to play it. Also I hear one of our fave 313 icons is doing a Fabric mix-CD to be released in Jan. How cool is that? ;) If you are talking about Stacey Pullen yep its true and following that a 2CD from Craig Richards. I can't wait!!! :)

Re: (313) Kevin Saunderson
Cyclone Wehner wrote: I caught Mr Kevin Saunderson on the weekend here and he was in form! The Sydney set went off, I really enjoyed it. Well programmed night and great sets from locals Simon Caldwell and Biz-E in a nice intimate venue, Chinese Laundry, at Slipp Inn. The Melbourne event, at Godskitchen, was always going to be hit and miss since it's primarily a trance/hard house/prog rave-up but the atmopshere in the 'Detroit Techno' room was better than I thought, even if for the most part the local DJs failed to acknowledge the Detroit theme and obstinately played generic music. Interestingly, Kevin played largely on Final Scratch at the second gig, I have now come around to it. For a great DJ, who actually knows how to utilise the mixer (incl. EQ), and create textures, there's no audible (or significant visual) difference. It was amazing to see how he totally changed the vibe in the room through sheer presence. It was also thrilling to hear a new Inner City track, Say A Prayer, with vocals by Ann Saunderson (who sang on Blackwater) with Paris on backgrounds. It's a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful song in the tradition of Good Life but very 2003. It's the kind of record you hear on first listen and go, Wow, what's that? From what I understand there is an Inner City album ready to go, it's a matter of finding a good label that won't impose any compromises. Also there is a Reese Project album coming up with input from Paul Randolph. I believe there is also a third Trust The DJ set due around Nov. All in all a lot to look forward to. some good news indeed. :) I want to hear that new Inner City stuff .. 2003 has been the return year for so many techno artists. Add Inner City to the list. :) I'm still waiting for an oppurtunity to hear Kevin live. Regards, Ramon
