call pickup by external modem [7:37532]
An external modem needs to be initialized to auto-answer in order to dial-up to work. So when I swith modem off and back on I have to manually do ats0=1. Is there any way to make it more automatic? RE: Voice over IP [7:37298]
OK, I'll bite What's the drawbacks or gotcha's of choosing the 3810 over a 2600 or 3600 router?? In comparison, this is what I came up with so far: 1. No WIC modularity to speak of... you're stuck with DB-60 Serial interfaces. 2. Only one 10BT interface, so no VLAN routing :( Is this the ONLY reason why those units are much less expensive than the 1700s, 2600s, or 3600s?? Surely not! Can you do a cross-over cable between a couple of these units on their MFT T1 cards?? This would be great for VoATM simulations. As a side note, I didn't find an EOL listing for the MC3810, so I guess that is a positive. waiting patiently for reply input. QoS fro VPN connection [7:37534]
Hello, I Have a following problem. I have Cisco 1750 router with vpn ipsec tunnel to PIX ( Central Office) I want to encrypt with IPSEC traffic to Central LAN, but I want traffic destined for inerrnet goes through central PIX too, so I have to tunnel this traffic ( e.g with IPSEC AH) Now I have 2 questions: 1. AM I right, that Pix cannot route the incomming packet out to the same interface, so I need e.g. Proxy in central LAN where traffic destined for internet can go through? 2. Is that any way to set up some QoS for traffic on 1751 router going to central LAN ( give this traffic higher priority than traffic for the internet) Problem is packet going to central LAN and going to the internet via central PIX will have the same IP header (after IPSEC encryprtion) I found a feature called QoS for VPN but this is for 2600 and bigger router Thanks for any help. Re: certificationZone Bridging White paper ! [7:37393]
SNIP The RIF is just referenced (not changed) in frames that are specifically routed. In other words, once the end station has found a route, it just puts it in the frame and the bridges just read it forwards or backwards and route accordingly. Could that be what he's getting at?? END SNIP I'm not sure what he's getting at really. I agree with your explanation above but also this would be the same process for a pure SRB also !!! I think it is fair to say that a Transparent bridge never adds or removes RIFS since it doesn't use one. But to use the expression in a SRT or SR/TL bridge is misleading and very confusing without a bit of an explanation of route selection. Thanks for the link. Fun with it ??? Doubtful. In other words, once the end station has found a route, it just puts it in the frame and the bridges just read it forwards or backwards and route accordingly. Could that be what he's getting at?? On the other hand, I agree with you that on an explorer, an SRT bridge changes the RIF. SRT simply implies a couple things: 1) If the RII is zero, just perform normal Ethernet-style transparent bridging 2) If the RII is one and redundant bridges exits, use the spanning tree to determine which way to forward explorer frames. By the way, SRT is the only form of source route bridging that the IEEE ever standardized. And you can get it for free! ;-) It's in Annex C of IEEE 802.1D, which you can get here: http://standards.ieee.org/getieee802/ Have fun with it! Priscilla !!! I havn't got my 'Interconnections' with me so I cannot confirm. Any ideas ? Phil. SNIP Source Route Transparent Bridging (SRT) SRT works by analyzing the RII bit to determine if a RIF is present. If the RII bit is 0, then a RIF is not present and the frame is transparently bridged. If, however, the RII bit is 1 and a RIF is present, then the frame is source routed. Note that SRT bridges do not add or remove RIFs to frames. By now, you ought to wonder how to configure SRT. END __ Do You Yahoo!? As far as how I prepared, I have read most of the books (Doyle I II, Caslow, Halabi, Tam-Nam-Kee, Solie, Satterlee, etc.) recommended by people on this list. Among this long list of books, the only one I dont like is Solies book because there are too many errors in the book. There are a few topics I was more confused after reading the book. I dont have a home lab. So my primary resource for hands-on practice is remote labs such as Mentor Technologies vlabs (not available any more), Cisco ASET lab. Because I dont have a home lab, my preparation included more reading than hands-on practice. That actually worked out very well for me. Above all, the most important part of my preparation is the NMC1 class taught by Bruce, Val and Fred. IF I HAD NOT TAKEN THE NMC1 CLASS, IT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE TAKEN ME ONE OR TWO MORE ATTEMPTS BEFORE I COULD GET MY NUMBER. There are a lot of things that just cannot be learned from reading books or practicing. So the NMC1 class helped me to fill in that gap very well. RE: call pickup by external modem [7:37532]
This can be automated by using modem definitions. (at the console) conf t modemcap edit newmodem misc FS0=1 line aux 0 (assuming you are using aux 0, was not specified) modem autoconfigure type newmodem flowcontrol hard modem InOut transport input all login (optional, but you don't want people to dial in and get an exec prompt without logging in) password whatever (same reason as above) Now whenever the modem resets, it will be reset into autoanswer waiting for 1 ring. Unless you have a cabling problem that should get it working. Make sure you can reverse telnet to the modem. Since you didn't give a model number, I can't tell you what the rev telnet port will be for your router. Look it up at www.cisco.com. 2600's are port 2065 for aux 0. 2500's are port 2001 if I recall correctly. If you cannot rev telnet, check your cables. You should be using a rollover to a RJ45 - (9pin or 25 pin) cisco adapter with modem somewhere on the label. You should be able to type commands directly to the modem and get an OK. -Jason www.CCIEwannabe.com - Afforable Remote Cisco Lab Access. Cat 6505 Error Message [7:37543]
I swear I get more error messages on my stuff than anyone! I must have that magic 'static' toouch or something! So here is the problem: I have a 6506 hooked up with both power supplies plugged in and everything says 'green'- everything except module 6 which is a 16 port gigabit card. It was working and I was pinging all downstream switches as of Tuesday afternoon. I noticed in Show Version that somehow the switch was rebooted on Tuesday night (I think it lost power and since it is not quite production it is not yet plugged into a UPS). Well, since the reboot, module 6 has been unable to register. I get the error message: SYS-5-MOD_NOREGISTRATION: No registration received from module 6...resetting module. Cisco website doesnt say much on the topic except that the module will be rebooted until it registers...but it never registers. So I guess the questions I have are 1) Has anyone ever seen this before, and 2) Could it be related to power problems? Thanks for any help. [7:37318] Well, let's see it from a different angle. Normally, the left byte is 21 hex, which is 0011 binary. Here bit 8 and 13 are set (bits 0 thru 7 are in the right byte). This is what I normally have, and I can use BREAK, so it must be enabled. I also use 9600 as the baud rate, so that makes sense too. If you set bit 11, the baud rate will now change to 4800. That gives a binary pattern of 00101001, which is 29 hex, which is what your left hex (most significant byte) is set to. I don't know where you got the calculator, but I would trust Cisco's documentation (which is what I am refering to) before I would trust someone's homemade application tool. A good way to find out, would be to disable bit 8 (set it to 0) and try to use BREAK. Then try to change the values of bit 11 and 12 and see what baud rate you have to configure to talk with the router. That's not only a good way to find out what's what, but a good exercise for your studies. Hth, Ole ~~~ Ole Drews Jensen Systems Network Manager CCNP, MCSE, MCP+I RWR Enterprises, Inc. RE: certificationZone Bridging White paper ! [7:37393]
Ken, What I was getting at was that the SRB part of the SRT bridge is still acting as a SRB bridge for those nodes on that side of the network. Therefore when end hosts on that network try to find a route through this bridge to other end hosts on the SRB side of the network the RIF field will be manipulated (for spanning and explorer packets). So to make the sweeping statement that RIF fields will never change on SRT bridges is very misleading to the newbie, (me in this instance). I conclude that it is safe to say that RIF will never be manipulated on 'Transparent only' Bridges since they don't exist. Thx for the replies, Ken. Phil. --- Sexton, Ken wrote: Phil, Can I therefore conclude that in a 'Source Route Transparent' Bridge the RIF field will indeed change ? Contrary to the whitepaper. On the above - In SRT mode, you are allowing the router to source route traffic and transparently bridge traffic on the same device (router), but any hosts on either bridging environment can not communicate amongst themselves. (i.e. a host on an SRB network cannot sent traffic destined for a host on the transparent side of the network). The SRT Bridge will never add or remove RIF information from a frame in order for the two technologies to communicate. This is where Source-route Translation bridging (SR/TLB) comes in. Now your above question needs some consideration. The router will now act as a RIF end station, where a RIF table will be built for end stations on the SRB side, and a forwarding table for the transparent side. By creating a virtual ring within the router, all the token to ethernet frame conversion will take place (i.e MTU, bit ordering, etc) before the frame is sent on its way. It makes no sense to set the RII bit to a 1 when sending the traffic to a transparent end host, as it will not understand what to do with it anyway. RE: Cisco 4006 with Sup III [7:37504]
I haven't seen the Sup III for Cat4K's yet but I do have a bit of experience with the L3 cards and am fairly unimpressed. After working with the 6500's (with MSFCs) configuring a Cat4K with L3 module certainly seems like a few steps backwards. My current client has a couple of Cat4K's with L3 modules that we'll be replacing this year with 6509's and MSFCs. Last time I checked (perhaps this is different now) there were only three different versions of IOS available for the L3 module; to make matters worse, the code seemed to be written by the same group that writes 8540 code - based-on my personal experiences with the 8540 platform this didn't give me a high level of comfort. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Daniel Kekai Sent: Wednesday, March 06, 2002 8:23 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Cisco 4006 with Sup III [7:37504] Hello, Is anyone out there running Cisco 4006's with the new Sup III? RE: CCIE#8903 [7:37490]
The CCIE does not supercede CCNP. They are different certification programs, managed by different departments at Cisco. A person can be both CCNP and CCIE. CCNP means that he or she has gone through the Career Certification Program, which last I knew was still managed by Cisco's training department. CCIE is a different program, managed by TAC I think, with no prereqs from the Career Certification Program. In reality, he'll probably stop referring to CCNP at some point, since CCIE already means that he's a guru. But there's no requirement he do this and maybe it doesn't even make sense. CCNP is a separate achievement that warrants respect on its own. Anyway, Congratulations, George! First try too! Great job. I was the only person taking the lab test in Halifax yesterday. I was told that there was another person scheduled yesterday but did not show up. My test started about 8:15 AM in the morning. We broke for lunch at about 12:20PM. By then, I only finished all the IGP stuff and felt some pressure on time. But I have already reviewed rest of the test and knew that I could go through the rest quickly. After the 15 min lunch break, I worked through rest of the test very quickly. By about 3:00 PM, I finished every thing except one small requirement that I had no clue how to do it. I decided to skip that item. Then, I started reviewing and checking my config. Along the way of reviewing/checking, I spotted and fixed a few issues. Just about the time I finished reviewing every thing, the proctor walked in and told me that it' time. I looked at the watch. It was 4:30 PM. My proctor was Steve. Steve is a great proctor. He answered quite a few of my questions and cleared my mis-understanding and confusion about the requirements of the test. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all people who helped me to achieve my goal. First, I would like to thank my wife for her support and understanding. Without her support, there is no way I could achieve my goal. Next, I will give my thanks to Bruce, Val, and Fred of NetMasterClass. Thats my primary resource for hands-on practices for the past couple of months. Thanks to Eric Fairfield for lending me a few routers when I was in Wisconsin. Also thanks to those that I've either studied with or have helped me one way or another. Thanks also to Paul for putting this great list together. As far as my story, I started my quest of the Cisco certifications a little over two and half years ago. I got my CCNA and CCNP in the first year. Three months later, I passed the CCIE written test. I wanted to take the lab a year ago. However, due to work and personal reasons, I did not get time to do it until now. Last year, I was too busy to do much study. At work, as a consultant, I was billing at least 40 hours/week for the whole year. At home, my second child was born in February, my wife finished school in July, and we moved to New Jersey from Wisconsin in September. In October of last year, I foresaw a window of opportunity for me to take the lab test early this year. Then, I lobbed my manager to let me go to the ECP1 class. By the time my manager approved my training request, I found that Mentor Technologies went belly up. However, I learned that Bruce and Val founded a new company called NetMasterClass, LLC (www.netmasterclass.net) and offering the NMC1 and NMC2 classes. I registered and took the NMC1 class by the end January. By the end of last year, the project I worked on finished. So since the beginning of this year I got a lot of time to study. For the past couple of months, I have studied 8-10 hours every day. As far as how I prepared, I have read most of the books (Doyle I II, Caslow, Halabi, Tam-Nam-Kee, Solie, Satterlee, etc.)

RE: certificationZone Bridging White paper ! [7:37393]
Phil, Can I therefore conclude that in a 'Source Route Transparent' Bridge the RIF field will indeed change ? I agree, the L3 card is a step back, back to the 6000 and the MSM. The SUPIII is like the MSFC, inter vlan x ... without having to build gig channels and all the BS. Dave R. Benjamin Kessler wrote: I haven't seen the Sup III for Cat4K's yet but I do have a bit of experience with the L3 cards and am fairly unimpressed. RE: wireless cert [7:37574]
I passed all three of Cisco's wireless exams, AM, SE, and FE. All the prep material you need is in the VOD files on PEC. I recently took the cwna exam from Planet3 Wireless (www.cwne.com). It's a vendor neutral wireless certification. I used the book, Wireless LANs, Implementing High Performance IEEE 802.11 Networks, by Jim Geier to prepare for the exam as well as some of the Cisco VOD presentations. It's an interesting, well rounded exam, focusing on 802.11 network fundamentals; basic design, implementation, and troubleshooting as well as RF fundamentals were covered. Re: What should standards be? [7:37578]
2514 has two ethernets as you have probably surmized. The CPA part sounds like the old cisco pro model, is the chassis a vanilla color?? Cisco quit making the pro line a while back and I never messed with them but I do believe they are upgradeable to full 2500 status. The two routers running boot 5.2.8a (10.2.8a in reality) should be fine. If the other is a Cisco Pro maybe someone else on the list has done the upgrade as I'm not sure what's required. Actually, if I remember the agreements correctly - you can list the lower level certs (CCxA, CCxP) with the CCIE. It is when you are a CCxP that you should not list the corresponding CCxA. I took my first attempt at the CCIE lab test yesterday (March 5) in Halifax and received the Congratulations on Passing the CCIE Lab! this morning. As I said earlier, the NMC1 class is the most important part of my final preparation. Thanks to Katie Wong of Cisco who scheduled me to access the ASET racks. IF I HAD NOT TAKEN THE NMC1 CLASS, IT PROBABLY WOULD
CCNP LAB QUESTION [7:37595]
Hi All, I am studying to take the BSCN exam for CCNP track and I have two questions, one about building a frame-relay lab/switch and the other about serial connections. I know the commands to make the router, for example, the 1720 with two WIC cards, to act as a frame relay switch. can you tell me what other equipment I need to be able to actually create the FR cloud and to be able to connect the other routers with serial interfaces into it? Second question: are there any equipment out there that can simulate a serial connection such as ppp or hdlc? I appreciate any feedback. thx. Tony __ Do You Yahoo!? Try FREE Yahoo! 2nd try - 2501 console port doesn't like reverse telnet [7:37597]
Gurus, I posted this question a few days ago, but didn't get anywhere. I thought I might try again with a slightly different explanation of the problem. The last explanation got me a lots of kind advice about how to setup and use a reverse telnet connection, but that's not what I need. I have 12 routers, mostly 25xx's with a couple 26xx's and a 4500, along with a Cat 5000. All of this equipment is connected to a 2511, which is serving as an access server. The 2511 is configured to provide reverse telnet connections into the console ports of my lab equipment. All of the 2511's asynch lines are configured the same: line 1 16 no exec modem InOut transport input all I am able to make a successful connection to all my equipment, except for one 2501. With this 2501, I get an open response when attempting the connection, but no further response to the connection. When I swap the cable connection with another piece of equipment, the problem follows the 2501, not the asych line on the 2511, leading me to believe the problem isn't the 2511 or the cable. I've telneted into the 2501 to do a show line con 0, and compared it to the console port on a working router, and I don't see any difference. The strange thing is, if I take the problem 2501 and connect the console port to my computer's com1 port using a standard blue console cable, I can connect to the port just fine! So my question is, what the difference between the 2511 2501 connection and the com1 port 2501 connection? And why does this difference only affect one router, and not the rest of the routers? You can set up the frame switch with 2 serial ports in one router. There are some frame switching commands and routing map commands that need to be done. You dont raelly need the hdlc simulator, you can use v.35 dte/dce or t/1 crossovers to use back/back T/1 connections for hdlc and ppp over T/1. Thank you for your feed back Peter, I also tried to add ALL the interface by using below command ospf add interface all to-area backbone And then tried to set some of the interfaces passive, individually. ospf set interface xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx passive but this failed, so I tried using interface name. ospf set interface InterfaceName passive. Re: CCNP v3.0 [7:37500]
Yes, all Cisco beta tests are three hours or more long. The reason is in a beta test you are asked around 150 questions whereas a production test is around 60 questions. Almost every test vendor does the same for their beta tests. You are asked more questions to validate the questions. Vendors want to develop a test that can be passed. The beta process is their means for determining which test questions will be used in the production test pool of questions. In turn, the test vendor makes the test available at a reduced cost or free in some cases. Through Complexity there is Simplicity, Through Simplicity there is Complexity David L. No go on CCIE prequal... [7:37608]
Hi all, Went for my CCIE written exam here at Networkers in Brisbane - failed by 6% :( But it showed me what to expect next time, and the areas I need work on. A few suggestions: - Somebody said a while ago the CIT is harder, but the CCIE has borader topics. I concur - the CIT was evil! - Jeff Doyle's TCP/IP books are fantastic. Read them. - Expect to fail your written or lab, and budget to try again. It shows what you need to work on (ok, every exam is different, but as far as general areas of study go). So, for now I'm going to ignore studying, finish my holiday and take things back up when I return to Perth next weekend :) Rgds, - I. -- Ian Henderson CCNA, CCNP Network Engineer, iiNet Limited Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=37608t=37608 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Ian, Pretty sure you can get it the next time. But regarding CIT, heck, this was the easiest for my CCNP exams. Sad thing is I thought I scheduled BCRAN but the night before the exam, I realized it will be gonna be CIT so I had a few hours to browse the book and off I went hoping to get at least 300 points :) But I passed it easily. unicast flooding:question [7:37609]
I have a scenario I wanted to bounce of the group. I never really thought about this before, just wanted to confirm what Im thinking is correct. By default I think a Cisco router maintains an ARP entry for 2 hours, at which time if its not been used it ages out. In a Cisco switch however cam entries age out in a much shorter rate, I think 10 minutes. On that note can't you get unicast flooding as a result of this?? Because the cam entry for a device has disappeared and the directly attached router still has an Arp entry?? Wont packets destine for that device from another Vlan still be sent to that network and get unicast flooded??? (A switch floods a packet when it doesnt not have a cam entry for it, if the device is shut off the cam isnt going to come back) This could be fixed by a clear Arp but unless I'm missing something it seems what I stated above would happen, and could happen regularly for up to a 2 hour period ?? __ Do You Yahoo!? As I said earlier, the NMC1 class is the most important part of my final preparation. Thanks to Katie Wong of Cisco who scheduled me to access the ASET racks. There are a lot of things that just cannot be learned from reading books or

RE: CCNP v3.0 [7:37500]
OK I just took it. Yes 3 hours. But the number of questions is horrendous! It definitely took me by surprise. I thought as I have been studying for my CCIE lab for the past year or so (on and off) then this will be a walk in the park. Was NOT! First of all I did not know that you cannot go back to questions. Definitely I would have had a different strategy. I wasn't simply prepared for that so I ended up spending too long on some questions, which I regretted later because I had a lot of very difficult questions in the beginning and a lot of easy ones in the end that I wish I could spend like 20 seconds on each instead of 3! I had 10 minutes to answer 45 questions in the end!!! I never took CCNP v2 but rumor has it that its routing exam isn't that hard. Well, maybe I'm not that competent, but today I had real tricky questions in this Beta. Well, but again the way the questions were asked was also really bad in some instances. For the first time in an exam I just had to leave some comments for some of the questions. I don't know if I'll pass or not. I think I still did OK. The lesson I learned from taking this test without preparing for it is that CCNP and CCIE are just very different ball games, and not just 2 levels of competence. Re: OSPF with Riverstone.(RS3000) [7:37523]
Thank you very much for your response Lupi, And no, I am using something called Rapid OS by Riverstone,(kind of like Cisco IOS) and it doesn`t have that command. I work for an IDC company that is starting up, and I joined a few days ago when the backbone was just completed. We are expecting 10s of customers within next couple of month, and probably more in the future. And I didn`t want to spend alot of time, adding each customer to the opsf backbone, and setting the interfaces passive, individually. So I wanted to add all the interfaces to backbone area, and set the interfaces passive individually, if needed. sean Do you have the ability to use this command? ospf set interface blah state disable I don't have a box that is not in production to test this on, I would be curious to see if the router still announces the network but just does not send hello's. I am also running an older version of code on this box so you may not be able to use this command. Also, why is it that you are adding all interfaces to the backbone area? Does it make sense for you to only add those interfaces you want to the backbone area and then redistribute connected networks for those interfaces you don't want hellos sent on, or are there just too many interfaces to make adding only certain ones to the backbone efficient? ~-Original Message- ~From: Sean Kim [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] ~Sent: Thursday, March 07, 2002 7:18 PM ~To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~Subject: Re: OSPF with Riverstone.(RS3000) [7:37523] ~ ~ ~Thank you for your feed back Peter, ~I also tried to add ALL the interface by using below command ~ ~ospf add interface all to-area backbone ~ ~And then tried to set some of the interfaces passive, individually. ~ ~ ospf set interface xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx passive ~ ~but this failed, so I tried using interface name. ~ ~ospf set interface InterfaceName passive. ~ ~But this also gave me the same error meesage that the interface ~is not recognized. ~I tried Riverstone Homepages and tried to get more info, ~but with no avail. ~ ~Would anybody like to share his/her knowledge? ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Never touched a Riverstone box before, but your summary-range certainly ~looks much more like type 3 summarizing rather that adding ~interfaces to ~the ospf process. ~ ~ ~At 01:27 AM 3/7/2002 -0500, you wrote: ~Hello everybody, ~ ~I know this doesn`t have much to do with Cisco, ~but if anyone would like to share his/her knowledge, ~I would be very grateful. ~Has anyone worked with Riverstone RS3000 before? ~I have set up OSPF backbone area on RS 3000, ~ ~ospf create area backbone ~ ~Then I wanted all the ports to autumatically belong to the ~backbone area. ~So I tried below. ~ ~ospf add summary-range xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx./xx to-area backbone ~ ~Then I wanted some of the ports to be set passive so that ~networks that are connected to the ports and my backbone area ~wouldn`t exchange routing info. ~ ~ospf set interface xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx passive ~ ~I thought this would be sufficient but I got an error message ~saying that, ~the system doesn`t recognize the interface xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. ~I DID try to add individual interface to backbone area and ~set them passive individually then it worked. ~But as more network is attached to the RS3000. ~This will be alot of work. ~ ~Does anyone have any idea? ~ ~Thank you very much in advance. ~ ~sean k` ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Report misconduct ~and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=37622t=37523 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: CCIE Lab - San Jose [7:37444]
Hi, I believe there is a new major-name hotel open now down the street at the end of the Cisco campus that looked walking distance to bldg C. Forgot the name... can someone help? Since it's one of the bigger hotel names, probably a bit pricy then the cheap motels/inns in the area. When I've been, I stay at the Vagabond Inn on North 1st street by the airport which is cheap cost wise. It's a nice place. It's about a 10 min drive. Theres a few more motels/inns along north first between 101 and tazman to. The light rail train/trolley runs down north 1st and tazman also so that could be helpful if you can't swing a car, but I'd check the schedule ahead of time so you get to bldg C in plenty of time. Everything you are asking is freely available on Cisco's website. Check out CCO for information about the 2900s (it will tell you port capabilities, VLAN/trunking with ISL/802.1q info). As far as your question regarding the purchase of a 1900 over a 2950, this really depends on the end devices connected and how much traffic traverses your network. - Sean -Original Message- From: Juan Blanco [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, March 07, 2002 7:28 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Infrastructure Upgrade. Re: Infrastructure Upgrade..... [7:37627]
Well, You did pick a pretty expensive switch to purchase...hehe the 1900's are 10mb to the desktop... You'll see some improvement over 10mb hubs on the lan but across the frame connection, it's really irrelevant. Are you looking to increase lan speed? In this day in age, I never reccommend hubs...but if you are really tight on cash flow, you would probably do better to purchase a 12 port 100mb switch and 8 100mb hubs. -Patrick Juan Blanco 03/07/02 10:27PM Team, I am in the process of upgrading all hubs in 4 different sites, each site has 8 hubs, I will replace each site with a 2950(24 ports)10/100mbs.
