2600 Current ROMs [7:34091]

2002-02-01 Thread Circusnuts

I have ROM Version 11.3(2)XA3 installed in my 2611, I was told that I
may need the latest ROMs for the 16 Meg Cisco FLASH upgrade to take
effect. I just received the updated ROMs from Cisco (BOOT-3600=) and
the version is 11.1(20)AA2.

What gives ???

Any ideas before I crack the case to try these ???

Thanks

Phil

Man- any idea on this one... I'm trying to run two physical addresses
on one logical Ethernet interface. I cannot quite understand what this
error message is pointing me to do (especially since it's a 10BaseT

r4(config-subif)#inter e0.1

r4(config-subif)#ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0

Configuring IP routing on a LAN subinterface is only allowed if that

subinterface is already configured as part of an IEEE 802.10, IEEE
802.1Q, or IS

Anyone got the skinny on this one. I have version 11.3(2)XA3 ROMs

Is Cisco offering anything newer ??? Both my 2621 and 2611 have the

I was told the case would not close, due to the way Cisco has positioned

Hey as a side note. Does anyone know what that PCMCIA slot inside the
25xx
routers are used for? It looks as if you can add Flash via a PCMCIA
card.
It is not worth it as Flash is so inexpensive, but it would be neat to
try.

RE: Anyone Higher? - FR Uptime [7:30920]

2002-01-04 Thread Circusnuts

What is the up time issue? Are we talking local facilities (i.e.
carrier transitions) or ISP POP facilities attributed to over
subscription or bad devices ???

The former is almost impossible to solve and is usually just an
occupational hazard within poorly plumed (facilities) locations. The
later is ISP related and companies like UUNet, Sprint, Qwest,
InterMedia, Genuity, and AT&T generally do a better job with it.

During the years I have been administering frame relay, I have been
dealing
with four different providers and four different telco's, but I have so
far
not seen any circuit being up for a long time without problems.

I believe that the longest I have seen a f.r. circuit being up is about
a
little less the half a year, and one of our providers had an average of
downing one of our circuit every 1.5 months.

We have four circuits (three branch offices and one corp.) with a
provider,
and all three branch offices has now been down once (at different dates)
in
less than four months.

So, I am looking for a possitive story in the Frame Relay world. Who can
with a smile tell me about a frame relay connection that has been up for
a
year or more - or would that be totally sci-fi???

I am getting SO frustrated and irritated that I have to deal
with so
much trouble with "simple" WAN connections.

RE: ios version for 3102? [7:30199]

2001-12-29 Thread Circusnuts

As far as boot from FLASH and run from RAM versions, the best I could
get without hanging during reload was 12.0(8) on the 3104s and 3204s.
The 3102s for some reason had no problems with 12.0(9). I have since
replaced all my 3000's, so I cannot speak about 12.1 or 12.2. Don't
forget the MZMaker utility. It allows you to compress IOS that is run
from RAM. Most of the new 12.1 & 12.2 share RAM and FLASH resources in
the 2500 series line-up. Unlike the 2500s, the 3000's are limited to 8
FLASH and 16 RAM.

All the best !!!

If you wore a suit, they would know you weren't a real engineer and
flunk

You compared it to the Novell instructor test, which is comparing
oranges

would be relevant. In that case business clothes would be expected,
although not necessarily a suit in this day and age, I would guess.

Im going crazy here. 10.1.1.2 is a directly connected server and is
live to the Internet (accepting E-mail as we speak). 10.1.1.2 can Ping
everyone on this switch. 10.1.1.12 (Internet router) cannot Ping

but I can see it. I have rebooted all devices and Arp entries stay
current and increment accordingly.

Ideas ???

RE: Cisco CPA 2501 [7:28976]

Hugo- I just upgraded a CPA last week to 12.2(6) Enterprise Plus. You
need to download a software cookie from Cisco first.

You must also upgrade the ROM's to the new 11.0 (10c), Cisco part#

Upgrade in this order: Download the cookie and reload the router. Once
you've reloaded the router it should come up with a software error,

Not sure the where this thread is going, but the Better Business Bureau is a
thing of the past. You can only hang their sticker on your door if you pay
a membership (as a business owner). Business owners have wizened up over
the past 10 or 15 years. The BBB has been defused by a lack of
participation. You must use your credit card company (who surely doesn't
mind taking your side) and state or local agencies that control the business
licenses.

Re: OT:Advise on Auction fraud [7:28004]

2001-12-10 Thread Circusnuts

Not sure the where this thread is going, but the Better Business Bureau is a
thing of the past. You can only hang their sticker on your door if you pay
a membership (as a business owner). Business owners have wizened up over
the past 10 or 15 years. The BBB has been defused by a lack of
participation. You must use your credit card company (who surely doesn't
mind taking your side) and state or local agencies that control the business
licenses.

Re: Home lab - 2523 [7:27788]

2001-12-09 Thread Circusnuts

I can't explain the 2523, but try the 2520, 2521, & 2522. The 2514 is very
expensive due to it's abililty to fuction as a dual Ethernet firewall via
FW/IOS. As far as bang for the buck, a cheap 4000 or 4000M with an NP-4T
has more appeal in a home lab scenario (possibly cheaper too). I used a
4500M for my Frame Switch and it has 1 Fast Ethernet & OC3-MM (making the
best use of the space :o)

All the best !!!
Phil

PS- if you want cheap- get an MGS or AGS. Make sure you have @ least 4
Serials and 4 Ethernets would be helpful too.

All you need is @ least version 10.0 IOS and Serial interfaces. This
explains why the AGS and MGS (and ear muffs) are still found in a lot of

Re: load balance 2 isp's-cisco [7:28430]

2001-12-09 Thread Circusnuts

I suspect any protocol that you can do bandwidth and or delay statements, can
easily balance those two circuits. Two equal cost paths in OSPF or EIGRP
will
give you per packet or per session balance, with failover. I'm pretty
certain
you will not be able to find an ISP willing to run BGP with you, but iBGP
running as a adjacent process (within 1 hop or between those 2 ethernet
Gateway interfaces) will give the same result without an IGP (connected
becomes your IGP).

All the best !!!

a question: we have 2 sdsl connections (1.5 and 1 mbps) from 2 different
isp providers. right now, we use one as a back up and connect it manually
if need be. we will be using a cisco 2621 router with 3 ethernet ports, one
for each of the dsl routers and one to the firewall. what would be the best
routing protocol to load balance between the two ethernet connections
running to the dsl routers? igrp since the two connectons are of different
bandwith? an points towards the right direction will be helpful.

Re: OT:Advise on Auction fraud [7:28004]

2001-12-03 Thread Circusnuts

If you bought from Ebay, you have their slow complaint process to help
(sorta :o) If you used PayPal, both you and the seller are verified, and
you used a credit card- you're covered. Rule of thumb though, escrow any
purchase you cannot afford to lose. I have purchased my entire lab off of
Ebay and have had very snags, but I know it can and does happen. I know
Brad Ellis, www.Netfix.com, and host of others are willing to sell @ a
somewhat reasonable price and will take that uncertainty of whether it work
or will it arrive away.

Do tell- who was the seller ??? I've got a couple of Ebay surnames that
have goofed over some people I work with.

All the best !!!

I think what you're hearing, is that the OS looks the same. 1200 OS is set

Re: Is Pix failover can be Load balancer ? [7:26673]

2001-11-19 Thread Circusnuts

Sorry Kevin- what I meant to speak to was "clustering" and not failover.
Yes- Pix's are designed to failover and the standby device is a replicated
backup, running in parallel by a very expensive cable (something like $250
for that cable). If I'm not mistaken, the Pix fail time is 15 seconds. The
Firewall 1 Nokia IP530's we tested had the ability to load share across the
cluster and maintain state between all firewalls . Asymmetrical routing is
supported and no one device offers a single point of failure. Cisco uses
the primary and backup (or hot standby), but makes up for the cluster by
producing boxes so wicked fast that you only need one running @ a time.

The original post was about balancing two Pix's and the Pix to date needs
something like the Cisco/ ArrowPoint CSS, Radware Fireproof, BigIP,
Rainfinity, or StoneSoft to control which firewall each user sessions will
traverse.

All the best !!!

Re: Is Pix failover can be Load balancer ? [7:26673]

2001-11-19 Thread Circusnuts

Be careful how you load balance. Unlike the Check Point's stateful setup,
Pix does not maintain state on both boxes, when running as parallel devices.
Also- the purchase agreement and software are for primary and failover
units. There is a sizable discount applied to the failover Pix. The state
issue means some sort of hash must be passed between the load balancers
sandwiching the Pix's. This hash ensures sourced traffic returns to the
same firewall that the session created state in.

Make sense ???

45 & 4700's, FE, & ATM [7:26788]

2001-11-19 Thread Circusnuts

I found on the CCO where it is not recommended not to run FE and ATM modules
on the same 45 or 4700 router. I have a 4500 and 4500M, both running NP-4Ts,
NP-1FE, and NP-1R & NP-2R modules. Has anyone had experience with running
ATM
and FE on the same router ??? Cisco says it's a big no-go, but it's only
with
home lab scenarios.

Any advice ??? Fortunately or unfortunately, the OC3 modules are in the mail
as we speak.

Thanks
Phil

Re: CPU Usage - How Much Is Too Much? [7:26739]

2001-11-19 Thread Circusnuts

This is a hard one to pinpoint. A lot of the network health products do not
record spikes. In general, if I recall, 40% average is cause to begin
thinking of upgrading to another platform or processor. During my time in
the NOC, I never was able to practice this mind you. The issues generally
centered around some 7513 with AIP's and an RSP2, that Open View didn't have
in it's database. I had a number of LANE router cook up into the 90's

You might be surprised just how much IS-IS you understand, if you already
have OSPF down. I think MCI is the ISP that still uses quite a bit of IS-IS
within their network.

Re: 8MBPS on v.35 cable [7:25527]

2001-11-12 Thread Circusnuts

[ The following text is in the "Windows-1252" character set. ]
[ Your display is set for the "US-ASCII" character set. ]
[ Some characters may be displayed incorrectly. ]

Theoretically-
Config wise- you can oversubscribe all you want. V.35 & RS232 are generally
T1 or Frame physical connections. I'm sure the duplex nature of this cable
could support what you asking. I'm not so sure your 4T interface has enough
interface memory though.

Reality-
Carriers call this an N+5 or N+6 connection (N=1.544). The delivered
interface is most often HSSI, which can more than handle what you are asking
for. Some carriers have TLS (Transparent LAN Service)/ FDDI, like Verizon
offers here in DC. A carrier might also ask you to secure a DS3 port for
this type of bandwidth.

Anywho- a lab environment of 8 Mbps- yes... real world- no

Re: Firewalls [7:25777]

2001-11-11 Thread Circusnuts

Ah ha- I just spent the last month answering these question and more, as I
was asked to research firewall solutions for my employer.

There are two types of firewall in used today: Proxy based (i.e. Symantec,
better known as Raptor) and Stateful (i.e. PIX and CheckPoint).

Proxy firewalls intercept all requests. To a network device, the proxy
firewall knows everything. This is the most secure of all firewalls, but it
can become slow. Every request is authenticated, state is established, then
it's taken to layer 7 for checking against a well know RFC.

Stateful firewalls differ, but mainly work by making this process modular.
Traffic is authenticated, state is established, and layer 7 checking is
occasionally brought into play. Cisco and CheckPoint are a little sketchy
with how they both handle this. I essence- user traffic (in the form of a
conversation) passing through a stateful firewall, must reach some level of
trust to gain a dynamic rule in the state table. As the firewall- if your
conversation is tested and fits requirements (rule sets), why do I need to
do anything above securing that connection against exploit. With a proxy,
every request in that conversation is test as if untrusted.

Some pro's and con's

Proxying is the most secure (minus vendor and platform exploits)
Proxy is slower and requires beefier servers, when compared to appliances
like the Nokia Firewall 1 and PIX.

Stateful is not as secure, in the same sense as the proxy is secure.
The modularity allows this type of firewall to focus on dynamic perimeter
security and not become tied to the latest patch of firewall software.
Proxy firewalls require patches or upgrades to allow new applications and
RFC's. This two adds a bone of contention, when the patch contains a new
exploit or performance degration.

I would write more, but my 3 month old is telling me E-mail time is up :o)

The term "line hit" is not an industry standard, but I have heard it used.
A "line hit" is generally a power outage or some interruption at the Central
Office. As far as the retransmission, I'd say you are looking @ the
application. If the line takes a hit or bounces, one side of the
conversation is going to drop. So- I'd say you looking at one or more
interface resets. If you're referring to noise build-up, it depends. Since
we are probably not talking about X.25 and more like Frame-Relay, TCP will
shut the windowing process to a crawl. If TCP cannot handle things, the
application timesout. This is my be theoretical .02, based on my 10 months
working for a CLEC. Dirty or intermittant noisey lines (i.e. water in the
box or lines close to power) were very hard to trouble shoot.

Only the 3104 and 3204 routers allow for DCE (clock rate) and DTE on the
Serial. Unless you have one or both of there routers in you lab, I'm afraid
your stuck with a crossover connecting Ethernets.

Re: TCP Window size [7:24875]

2001-10-31 Thread Circusnuts

John- I believe you've let this term confuse you. What you are seeing with
TCP windowing is how may packets you send before requiring an
acknowledgement. This is better know as the sliding window principle,
because consistent connections allow the window to open more freely (i.e.
larger periods without an ack). When a network hiccup occurs, the window
shuts and eases back open when the connection resumes.

Re: OT- maybe... [7:24121]

Geeze- Open View is probably the most widely used. Depending on your
company size, I think you should find it more reasonable than CiscoWorks.
We used NetView @ my old employer (IBM's version of Open View). All these
applications come with demo periods. I think Open View allows up to 50
object for more than 30 days, @ no charge.

Yep- I've got one of my 2600's working as the hub for IOS images. The
command is : #tftp-server
tftp-server flash c4000-is-mz.112-21.bin
tftp-server flash xx-in-mz.111-24a.bin
tftp-server flash c2500-io-l.120-15

Re: IOS upgrade problem - 2621 [7:23526]

2001-10-21 Thread Circusnuts

I haven't lost code in a 2600 or 3600 lately, but if I recall correctly I
had to use Xmodem. Follow the instructions to change the HyperTerminal
speed to 115200 @ ROMMON & pull the file through your console connection.
If it's a large image, pull some smaller IP version that will allow you to
use the interfaces for you final upload.

Check the placement of your terminal server. Line noise will cause this
problem. Sho Line should give you some indication, under the noise column.
I actually had Cisco warranty out a 2511 for this problem, only to find
moving it away from my 4000's & grounding the rack was the fix.

Re: is this 4700M bad? [7:20630]

2001-09-20 Thread Circusnuts

Slide the case & reseat the memory. If you are seeing the POST, I'd try
swapping out the balun you've used to convert the console from RJ45 to db25.
I've bought a pile of these boxes off of Ebay & have even had a power supply
develop an open that zapped everything in my equipment rack... still these
boxes keep ticking. I've even recieved 4000's that were shook so hard the
memory boards unseated, still everything has worked without fail.

Re: Regarding 2509 telneting sessions... [7:20476]

2001-09-19 Thread Circusnuts

This is hard to answer. First- the whole reason for having the Access
Server in your lab is to get over the idiosyncrasies of how to configure it
& how to work it effectively. That's just one less item to worry about when
heading to the lab. Most any Telnet program will open multiple sessions.
The only way I can imagine this would be possible, with your setup, is to
Telnet into your 2509 router multiple times. Telnet into say the Ethernet &
start a session with router "1." Telnet into the Ethernet again with,
setting up a concurrent session with say router "2." Get the picture... Do
remember- in the grand scheme of things that 2509's cnrtl, shft, 6, & X is
really going to make your life easier when using a good size rack of
equipment :o)

All the best !!!

Re: MTU Question [7:20096]

2001-09-16 Thread Circusnuts

I believe the correct way to answer this question is, the MTU effects any
interface to interface communication where a TCP handshake takes place.
That would mean incoming or outgoing. The window of information must match
what I expect to receive.

Have I come close ???

Re: ISP failover [7:20068]

2001-09-15 Thread Circusnuts

Pat- I may be hitting this issue way bellow the knees, but have you ever
thought of running an IBGP session. You could create a channel or path
connection between the two OSPF networks for fail-over, load balance, &
geographical routing (if your current connection involves is BGP peering @
the ISP). This could be done before the PIX's, not to allow port 179 TCP
openings in the firewalls...

an RSP4 in a "working" Nortel/ Cisco LANE environment. Although- I can
prove I repaired the RSP2's over-utilization problems (by removing the AIP's
that feed off of the RSP), I was not able to correct the "new" problem of
needing reboot the router once a week to keep LANE clients established :o)

Re: RANT Longish, Why Cisco and not ...!!! [7:19933]

2001-09-15 Thread Circusnuts

Guys- I read your post yesterday & thought about a little overnight... I
don't have a clue where you're coming from. Undoubtedly- Cisco is proud of
their LFH60/ Serial interfaces (but the need still exists) & when I hear
someone referring a T-1 access, I giggle picturing stoking a fire with
dollar bills. Having said this, I work in one of the largest Enterprise
networks in the world. We have OC- everything, a lot of Frame, DLSW
projects up the wazoo (replacing mainframe X.25) & @ last count just over
12,000 Cisco routers & switches. I work in the engineering department & we
deal with some pretty OK stuff. I've also worked @ a CLEC for a year & feel
very comfortable with how that world lives (on their butts with a cup of
coffee :o) I have been ordering DS-3's these past 2 weeks & know that a lot
hasn't changed since I left the CLEC business. I say all this to qualify
that I don't live & work in a vacuum.

The topics you have mentioned are very valid & if you have an opportunity to
look @ the past Networkers presentations, you'll get Cisco's spin on the
future. I think what you brought up does represent what we are seeing (yes
managed survice is getting better & available in more areas). What you are
supposing though- is that Telco's are going to modernize sooner than say a
Cisco can react, assuming they have no view into the future. We have H.323
because it's what we have to work with. We have MPLS because ATM circuits
are what we have to work with. We have VPN's because the wide open Internet
is all some companies can afford & Frame is very slow in the Southwestern
areas (TouchAmerica POP's). We have NAT because of IPV4, & we have fiber
going into housing developments because they were built where facilities do
not exist (it's called PairGain & it's only good for phones & 144 IDSL
services)

Again- you've made valid points, I just don't think it's going to come upon
us like a thief in the night.

Phil

Re: :-((( [7:19468]

I can only imagine Verizon has lost many CO's just within the World Trade
Center alone. I know from my CLEC days that it's not all that uncommon to
be disqualified for certain services because of cable distance. This was
especially frustrating for New York businesses, knowing the local CO was in
the basement of the very building their offices were located.

Re: US Stock [7:19433]

2001-09-11 Thread Circusnuts

In Biblical history I believe this (assuming this US attack sourced out of
the middle east) started in Genesis with Abraham's sons Isaac & Ishmael. As
far as the "why me," we can again look @ scriptures to see that it rains on
both the just & unjust. We can also analyze America & see that it's not
exactly consumed with what I would call "God's chosen people." Many of us
are faithful, but many of us are not. We should be horrified by the
violence, but not surprise. This we are reminded of in Genesis too.

I couldn't help but think as I left work today, driving across the Woodrow
Wilson bridge heading into Virginia, I could see beyond National Airport to
the Pentagon where huge smoke trails filled the sky. Is what I'm feeling
the same sentiment felt almost 60 years ago during the Pearl Harbor attack
??? The "it's in my backyard & what am I willing to do" effect has set in.
I myself am a new father, with all the pride, hang-up's, & paranoia that
goes along with that new roll. I would fight like I have never had to fight
before to secure freedoms I have all but grown up with & know no different.
I hope the good people of the world can figure this thing out, but referring
to my first paragraph it should be no surprised.

A nation in our prayers

Re: CCIE : What version of IOS on R/S Lab [7:18565]

2001-09-07 Thread Circusnuts

I believe their is a CCO link that refers to this (I don't have it), but a
coworker passed the lab last December $ said he was pleasantly surprised by
the amount of 11.2 he saw. From 11.2 to 12.2 the main routing commands are
the same. If you nail down every intent with a config statement, the impact
of the different defaults is minimal. Voice of course is 12.1-ish.

Re: remote ios upgrade? [7:18632]

2001-09-06 Thread Circusnuts

Not that this makes sense, but the CPA (white box) routers were Cisco's
attempt to limit the usable IOS via ROM code. If you upgrade the ROM's to
the 11.0 (10c)'s, this box works just like any other 2500. Why I say all
this, is that it appears our man does not have the most basic of commands in
(boot)# mode.

No plan B. A lot of designs exercise redundancy, only to order a single
connection (or 2 PVC's on the same connection). That makes the single point
of failure the local loop (DSL people know that's never a problem :o)

Here's the 50 pin providing clock (DTE)

Re: Flash memory issues [7:17561]

2001-09-03 Thread Circusnuts

Theoretically it could be the ROM's, being that the 11.0 (10c)'s upped the
ability to other FLASH manufacturers, as opposed to Intel & Panasonic.
Generally- if you have boot ROM's of a lower code (say 10.0), "no usable
interfaces" appears when trying to run 12.x in the 2500 series. The issue
could very well be a bad FLASH stick...

Re: PPPoE with PIX? [7:18323]

2001-09-03 Thread Circusnuts

You might want to research the 1700 DSL routers with VPN & Firewall IOS too.
The problem you may be dealing with is a proprietary DSL setup. A few years
back when I worked for Covad, it was the DSLAM technology that dictated the
type of CPE we could use & since Cisco sold DSLAM's... their CPE's almost
never worked unless you were a Rhythms customer. The only somewhat
universal standard between the CLEC's (that I have seen), is the IDSL (128
ISDN bonded).

Secondly- your customer may need to upgrade their service to non-PPOE or
PPOA service. Unfortunately- you would have the ISP & CLEC to research for
more on this. I can say even in the TAC & NOC we weren't provided this
knowledge, so you may want to look for a liaison or service engineer that
works as a go between with the ISP (but is employed by the CLEC).

As with the PIX, I'm pretty sure I have no available setting in my 506,
using 6.0 code, for changing any of the Ethernet standards.

Hope to have helped

Re: Frame relay switch question [7:18318]

2001-09-03 Thread Circusnuts

Arun- your just a handful of commands away. Have you researched this ???
The field of commands you are looking for is "Frame-Relay Switching," which
makes your router into a layer 2 device.

Let us know if you get stuck...

Re: how to make a router firewall? [7:18268]

2001-09-03 Thread Circusnuts

What kind of router ??? The IP/FW was only designed for the 1600, 1700's, &
2500's. Regular IP will allow you to configure PAT (NAT overload), but the
true FW IOS is for the smaller routers.

Re: DSL / Cisco Switches [7:18269]

2001-09-02 Thread Circusnuts

Is this a true DSL router that terminates the connection into Ethernet @ the
LAN side ??? A lot of these connections are some sort of PPOE or PPOA with
a bridge connecting the LAN & ISP. If everything is standard (likened to
ISDN or IDSL) then I would start looking @ the router & PC configs. You may
have ISP software or a proprietary router config. I once worked for a CLEC
& we had our own unique way of configuring things with the Nokia DSLAM's
running either Frame or ISDN over ATM. Needless to say, the experience did
very little for my ATM career :o)

What device is your connection terminating into ???

Stopped by my local Washington area Home Depot & picked up a set of screws
for the remaining 2500's I need to rack. The non-Cisco version of the rack
mount mounting screws are #6 x 3/8 sheet metal. I chose the blue pack of 16
pieces with a cross tip for 96 cents.

The CCNP can be done without router experience. I do not recommend this
course of action, as it will make you a very scared interviewee (hoping you
be won't be asked real world questions) & an even more scared the first year
or so on the job (hoping you don't spend every day with scenarios that are
over your head).

It can be done though

Re: VLAN Security [7:18203]

I don't believe your talking that much of a savings (between the 2900 &
3500). The 3500 wills scale to Gig uplink , plus the 2900's EOL's in
October. The 3500's will also enforce QOS, although this in not a concern
in my application of the switch.

Thanks for the .02 though !!!

Re: VIP [7:17775]

2001-08-29 Thread Circusnuts

It's the Versatile Interface Processor option. These are used for local
processing in the 75xx routers & I are much the same theory as a CAM
(Carrier Access Module) in the LS1010's. If you have a VIP installed the
actual processing takes place on the shelf (locally). Port adapters slide
into the VIP, giving you local processing of say a FE, ATM, or even an
Encryption accelerator. The best example I can think of is with ATM. There
was a module installed a couple of years ago called an AIP. The AIP was the
ATM Interface Processor. It took up the entire shelf & used the 75xx's back
plane to connect to the RSP (Route Switch Processor). When the VIP's were
released, you then could save your RSP processes by using a VIP & an ATM PA
(port adapter). Basically- the VIP & RSP upgrades have extended the 75xx's
shelf life.

Make any sense ???

All the best

ILMI Vulnerability [7:17600]

2001-08-28 Thread Circusnuts

The ILMI issue was cleared with the 12.1 release, I assume it was fixed in
all
other releases too ??? Why I ask, I suggested a customer run a PVC "in the
clear" (through their hardware encrypors) for a BGP link to the ISP. My
suggestion was met with opposition, due to the ILMI issue from late last
year.
My reply was that this was found by Cisco as a design flaw & was fixed in
12.1. In researching this a little more today, I see the LS1010's don't have
a 12.1 code yet. It's safe to assume this was fixed for all codes ???

Thanks

Paul- sounds like you have old boot ROM's & new IOS. If you are using 10.0
or older ROM's, you are probably getting some sort of "no usable

Until you get the 11.0 ROM's, older IOS should fix it.

Routers for sale [7:17282]

2001-08-25 Thread Circusnuts

Hey all- asking forgiveness from those who may find this method offensive. I
am updating parts of my home lab & the office home lab. Please help me avoid
making more Ebay pages :o)

I have:
(4) 3102's with 1 Serial/ 1 Ethernet, upgraded to 2500 specs running 12.0(9)
IOS
($280 each with N/C for shipping within the USA)

(2) 3104's with 2 Serial/ 1 Ethernet/ 1 BRI, upgraded to 2500 specs running
12.0(8) IOS
($400 each with N/C for shipping within the USA)

(2) 3204's with 2 Serial/ 1 Token Ring/ 1 BRI, upgraded to 2500 specs running
12.0(8) IOS
($325 each with N/C for shipping within the USA)

All these routers are in excellent condition, need zero maintenance, & no
further upgrading. All IOS is of the "Enterprise Plus" version. The 3000's
can only be upgraded to 8F/16R & must have the proper boot ROM's installed to
allow this. All of the above devices have such upgrades. Please check my
Ebay feedback & I will cover all of these devices for 30-days. I have a
verified account with PayPal also.
