[slim] mobile version of Squeezenetwork
With all the recent talk about iPhone apps, I have a humble suggestion: For those of us who: a. Have an iPhone/iPod Touch; and, b. Don't use SqueezeCenter; and, c. Just use Squeezenetwork; and, d. Find that the Squeezenetwork webpage is awkward to use on the iPhone/iPod Touch; Now, therefore, How about Logitech making a mobile version of their squeezenetwork webpage that works better on the iPhone/iPod Touch? Apparently the current Squeezenetwork webpage is heavily graphics based and isn't so easy to navigate on the apple devices. In fact, of all the webpages on the internet, I find the squeezenetwork webpage to be one of the most difficult to work with on the apple devices. If there was a mobile version of the squeezenetwork webpage, I bet it help to sell a lot more squeezeboxes and booms!!! So please logitech, publish a mobile version of the squeezenetwork. Contact support.Support is really good. try them. I assume that the vista PC is wired to ? so you have an all wired support ? if not wire the pc too. Is the music on the vista PC too ? The usual culprits are Firewall and/or AV software Search this forum for which ports to open i FW i think 9000 and 3483 would do. There are some more ports which normally is not needed. A search for which files to ignore in AV and Firewalls reveals this: Also set your FW and antivirus to ignore *.myi and *.myd files. I'm not a vista user. my latest win PC had XP which was infected with Norton (avoid like the black death). So I know nothing on vista righths user's and such problems ? [slim] 5.1 not working anymore
Hi, I successfully ripped and played about 30 DTS and Dolby 5.1 tracks a few months ago. Worked flawless. Alas, after an upgrade to the latest SqueezeCenter (7.2.1 - 23630 ReadyNAS) and the Squeezebox V3(firmware 113), my files are not recognized as 5.1 anymore; my receiver plays them in stereo mode, which of course gives only noise. I checked the settings on the server and SB; the files are in "native" mode and volume control on SB is disabled. does anyone have suggestions what caused the setup to stop working - and even better, ideas for a fix? If its a Squeezenetwork limitation that doesn't allow an iphone app to work without aid of squeezecenter on a computer, then I humbly suggest that logitech fix this. Many webpages work fine with the iphone. Unfortunately, the squeezenetwork is very difficult to work with on the iphone. Maybe it is less text based than graphically based. [slim] RadioIO soundpass on Squeezecenter?
I recently signed up for a soundpass with RadioIO and have entered my account info in Squeezenetwork (SN). I can use the soundpass just fine when logged into SN. However, I am not getting the commercial-free stream when using Squeezecenter (SC). Has anyone else had this problem recently? The only thing I can think might be wrong is that my RadioIO account name (joeriz) does not match my SN account (my e-mail address). If it is a requirement that they match, it wasn't made clear. According to the 'help' screen at RadioIO I can not change my account name. And, as far as I can tell, on SN it has to be my e-mail address. I suppose SC does not have the ability to grab my RadioIO account name from SN...? Any help would be appreciated. If you're going to have a "big screen" display for the SB4, then it might as well be a video streamer as well. That would seem to be a different product than a future SB3 (SB4). If we're keeping the discussion strictly to improvements to the SB3 music streamer, maybe ideas involving video outputs and touch screens should migrate to a new thread about a video Squeezebox. To get back to the potential SB3 replacement, I would favor either an incremental improvement of the existing form factor, or a full-width component with a wider VFD. In either case (pun intended) I would want a horsepower boost in terms of CPU, on board memory, buffer, and DAC sound quality. -- Pale Blue Ego Pale Blue Ego's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=110 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54974 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Yes, but don't think of it like the Boom has UPnP support. It only supports the bare minimum needed to proxy the necessary packets back to a server (SN) and SN handles the interface and control functions as usual by integrating the UPnP server into the Music Library menu as a new option. When playing music the files are streamed from the UPnP server to the Boom, no data from the audio files goes to SN. -- andyg andyg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3292 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54504 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Unusual request? filter my music for lossless format?
Further to my last post - I used to use a single library for the family iPod collection plus Squeezecenter. I used the scan for only checked music in iTunes feature of Squeezecenter. In iTunes you can sort by Size to get the AAC compressed files. Select these and copy to a playlist Compressed. Then go into the playlist and deselect all the tick marks (I think its column 1) by control + click on an entry or shift + click. This clears of adds all check marks (sorry on business overseas so cannot check currently). This will deselect all you iPod music, then Squeezecenter will only use the checked items. This is a little tedious long term, two libraries is slightly more time, but if you use / change iPod music frequently easier, keeping everything correct without full Squeezecenter rescans is a little tricky. Sounds cards in PCs have poor analog output for the reasons stated in this thred. There is a lot of electrical noise in a computer. If you are getting pops and clicks you can make sure your sound card is on it's own interupt. Use "lspci" from the command line in linux. But I don't think this is your problem. Your best bet though is to use the SDIF out on your PC and connect that to your stereo. That way the A/D is done by the stereo not the PC. If your PC sound card doesn't have SDIF or digital out you can get sound sound cards or USB sound systems that do for under $25. -- agillis rip, tag, get cover art All you do is insert the CD! http://vortexbox.org agillis's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21140 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55182 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Unusual request? filter my music for lossless format?
Hi I do exactly what you want. On a mac you start iTunes whilst holding down the Option Key (Next to the Apple Key). This will open a dialogue box select library. I have two libraries, Lossless and iPOD. When I rip with iTunes or XLD (which is a bit like EAC for Macs) - I put the lossless file into the lossless library. I then select the new files in a playlist called Export. In iTunes you can export this playlist, remember to select xml format as the save option. Close iTunes - reopen with the Option Key again selecting the iPod library. Check iPod library has import options set to your required AAC selection type, ensure 'copy music to library' is set, and 'organise library' is set. Then go to library and Import Playlist. This will complete the import of your files into iPod library. If you are doing this regularly, then it is easier to use Doug's scripts or build you own script. I hope this helps. I only do this on a batch basis every month - if I have added music. I hope that helps. I had a similar problem (with a library of 2200 albums or so) - Squidgy got through the 'albums' scan, but it would crash back to the home screen halfway through 'artists.' It finally occurred to me to reboot my iPhone (hold down the top button and bottom button simultaneously until the slider appears at the top of the screen, then restart). That did the trick - it scans everything now. I've encountered a similar problem with other apps, particularly games, so it may be an iPhone problem rather than a Squidgy problem. It's worth a try, anyway. Apart from those missing favorites and a few other issues, I'm very impressed with Squidgy, by the way. Well you could sort by kind in itunes and note down the file/folder locations, but that would be a colossal pain. If you were using Windows a really god tagging application like www.mp3tag.de/en would do it programatically; perhaps you could look for an app for the Mac that would do likewise? you'd need something that would let you sort and move your files by "Codec" or "bit rate" or similar. Manually, you could sort each folder by size - that (should) list all the aac and all the alac stuff in two clumps per folder, I would think? Squeezecenter has an option to browse by music folder if you want to see it just like in explorer. This is slower, though, since it has to read the directory structure as it goes. For your Rolling Stones problem, it probably has to do with the way the music is tagged. I took it one step further and burned such a track on a CD and ripped it to ensure that no unknowns had creeped in anywhere in my signal chain The result here is if you use rg or volume= white noise. dcote;360692 Wrote: > is there not a minute possibility that other codecs (internal and > external) may be suffering similar symptoms? No flames here but an easy way to prove that at least the FLAC decoding is lossless - it requires an HDCD-encoded track and an HDCD decoder connected digitally to an SB. If you play back an HDCD-encoded track in FLAC to an HDCD decoder connected digitally, you will get the HDCD indicator to light up. You need to have digital volume at 100% and no ReplayGain. If this process was lossy at any point in the chain, this couldn't happen. Turn RG on or adjust the digital volume and the HDCD indicator goes away. I believe you can also do this with Dolby Digital and DTS-encoded files, but you have to do some special things to the WAV file in order to get the SB to relay it to the outboard decoder. Played with album review over the weekend. Decided to check my installation and found that when I extracted MHCPAN there was a problem and not all of it ended up with my plugins. Did it over and now AR/Bio work perfectly. Lesson learned. Thanks again for all the help. This is a great plugin. Brings more than just a review or bio. It really should be mentioned here that SqueezeCenter doesn't care what OS you're running, the sound quality should not be affected (up to the point it drops out completely due to insufficient bandwidth). After all, you don't even need a soundcard to run SC. SC does not use any sound software or hardware. Re: [slim] Sound Quality Linux vs Windows
Generally the PC speaker sound output has gone through a mixer which can combine various sources (e.g. wave, CD , mic, line-in ) into one output. Many of these sources are enabled by default so a lot of audio processing (e.g. upsampling , mixing, downsampling, enhanced stereo) will be performed on the audio before output. By contrast with SC, audio from files are passed unaltered to the SB. In Linux look for mixer control (e.g. Kmix in KDE I think or amixer on shell) to adjust volume amongst other things. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55182 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Freezing, slow response - how I resolved it
Interesting. I have two SB3s, one in the lounge and one in my bedroom, and one of them reboots itself on a quite regular basis, after 5 minutes or so, longer sometimes. I swapped them over, thinking it was a problem with the wi-fi but it's just the same when wired. I swapped the power supplies but the problem remained with the same unit. I'm thinking perhaps a component might be failing? It seems to reboot itself after a few minutes with loud/busy music and lasts for several tracks sometimes with quieter music. Could something be getting overloaded? Your post pointing the finger at the server operating system is interesting and now I'm wondering if I can revive this wonky player. I've tried going back to v6.5 but it still fails, I'm currently on an overnight build of v7.2.1 from a couple of weeks ago, firmware 113. I'm running Windows XP, with recently applied SP3 although it was failing on SP2 for a while before that. Doe anyone know if there are any debug settings I can turn on which might indicate what's actually happening at the player? Or any plug-ins? I sometimes see a crazed display just before it reboots. Mostly it carries on with the track it was playing, other times it stays quiet in the "stopped" position. The wireless card was performing poorly on Linux and that was impacting sound quality, this has been improved significantly on the move to 8.10 so doubt whether that is your problem. Re: [slim] Unusual request? filter my music for lossless format?
The .m4a extension is indeed the same for AAC and Apple Lossless files, as both audio formats are "wrapped" in an MPEG-4 container. I, too, have no idea what that means ;-) What are you running iTunes / SC on; Mac or PC? Either way, it's possible to use iTunes to manage two or more libraries. On a PC, when you double-click to run iTunes, hold down your shift key. That'll get you a dialogue box, and from there you can create a new iTunes library, complete with its own folder structure. Then use one of these libraries for your iPod stuff, and another for your SC stuff. Tell SC the loaction of the iTunes .lib file that manages your Lossless stuff and you're good, everything's filtered. I find that having to remember which stuff to add to which iTunes lib is a pain if I decide to blow the libraries away and start again, so i'd recommend that you think about moving SC stuff into its own folder structure, and your iPod stuff into another. eg here's mine... M:\Music\iPod\ contains my iPod only iTunes library files, and M:\Music\iPod\iTunes Music contains all my mp3 and aac stuff M:\Music\SqueezeCenter\ contains my SqueezeCenter only iTunes library files, and M:\Music\iPod\iTunes Music contains all my Apple Lossless stuff ..if you're running on a Mac, Google Doug's applescripts - there's a nice one that lets you switch libs from within iTunes itself. EDIT: ah, you're on a mac. Even easier for you, no holding down Shift or whatever that's called on a Mac ;-) -- moley6knipe Win XP Pro SP3 > dBpoweramp Reference 13.1 > SqueezeCenter 7.2.1 > Squeezebox 3 > ears moley6knipe's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10014 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55151 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

An attenuator possibly makes sense in order to free up a decent amount of preamp volume control range, BUT... The point I was originally trying to make is that even an amp with an "old-fashioned" input sensitivity around the 150mV mark should not be overloaded by the 2V signal that typically comes out of a CD player. rh2600 needs to perform a very simple experiment: 1. Set the Squeezebox volume to maximum (100), play a loud piece of music, and turn the Marantz's volume control up so you can hear the distortion. 2. Now turn the Marantz's volume control down. If the distortion disappears, it was either due to clipping in the Marantz's power amp section (nothing you can do - you need a more powerful amp), or it might even be due to overloading of the speakers (you need speakers with higher power handling). On the other hand if the distortion remains even at low listening levels, it's due to overload of the Marantz's input ciruitry. Try turning the Squeezebox's volume down - the distortion should go away. In this case, attenuators will fix the problem. -- cliveb Transporter -> ATC SCM100A cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55023 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

TBH, while there are slight differences in characteristics, they are so similar overall i can't say i prefer either really. I would like to have voted "No preference" If held at gun point, i would probably blurt out "SBr". I say this because it found it to be a touch brighter, and i like the sound. The SB3 was a bit warmer, and i think most people will prefer it. I guess its also down to the music you like. [slim] Choppy Flac playback with SBClassic and Duet
I had problems with my Squeezebox Duet since the day one. Flac files started to play but after few seconds the started to get choppy and totally unlistenable. MP3's and internet radio worked fine. I tried wireless and ethernet connection and they both had the same problem. After weeks of wondering I decided to connect my PC to router via another network adapter and there was the solution... don't know why though, but who cares, I was happy. :) I then decided to buy Squeezebox Classic for my bedroom. I connected it and now it had the same problem than my Duet used to have. I tried wireless and wired connection but it didn't have any affect. I ran network test and it showed that after 320 kbs the performance starts getting weaker. But my livingrooms Duets performance was rock solid. Last week I reinstalled my Windows(Vista 64bit)and hoped this could help... but now my SB Classic works fine and performance is 100% and Duet stutters with Flacs. Both players are connected to router via ethernet cable, so there isn't any wireless network issues. I'm getting really frustrated. Hmm, i replaced the 7.3 JS's with 7.2.1 again. I guess I'll wait until SC 7.3 is released officially. Another issue for me is the artwork size; I have noticed that optimal size of the artwork is around 600*600 so that it sits nicely on the screen toghether with the Track name etc. However, I do have some really big artwork at aroud 1400*1400 (and even bigger), and I also have some small artwork at 300*300 (and smaller). Problem is that the artwork does not seem to resize in "Nowplaying". If I load a song from an album with a folder.jpg at 1400*1400 it occupies the entire screen as if it was a wallpaper :-) Similarly, if I load a song from an album with a folder.jpg at 300*300 it's way too small too small for the nowplaying screen purpose... I haven't tested if it's a differance here, between tag embedded artwork vs folder.jpg artwork. Is there any easy way to turn it (metadata) off as an experiment? -- Paul Webster Paul Webster http://www.lastfm.com/user/BondJamesBond Paul Webster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=105 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=49922 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
