Even after removing .e/ all windows come up as sticky? Or you have
to re-do step 1 after removing the folder?

If this doesn't happen in a previous revision we only need to compare the
code between revisions where the corresponding files were changed. But I
simply cannot replicate your problem and I assume neither can anyone else.

Are you positive you have no other E17 binaries (including libraries) in
 your PATH,
PKG_CONFIG_PATH (and LD_LIBRARY_PATH if you use it).
You can also grep ldconfig -p to look out for incorrect paths.

This is common wen the user has installed e17 using an unsupported method
 in
the past and is a common cause of problems.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

I ended up not having time to experiment, but did check the library paths
and was all fine.
I re-tried again tonight after a new E17 update and found the problem.

After removing .e/ and go thru the initial setup, switching desktops worked
fine, no sticky windows anymore.
Then I loaded the itask-ng and ecomorph modules, and got back the sticky
windows. So it must be something related to these modules, most likely the
ecomorph module. I have recently tried to get ecomorph to work, but not very
successfully. I do get the transparency but not the effects.. for some
reason it was (and still is) not loading the ini plugin, base for everything
else. Is anyone running it without problems?

Fernando.

[e-users] Mixer module default settings

2009-08-25 Thread Fernando Meira
Hi,
sorry for this lame issue but,
is there a way to set which is the default control (Master/Mic/...) that the
mixer module starts up with?
For some unknown reason (to me) it has changed from Master to Mic.
So now I have to go to settings and set it to Master on every startup, which
is becoming rather annoying.

Re: [e-users] Laptop multi-mon with E17

2009-08-06 Thread Fernando Meira
Hi,

I use a laptop in that same way and have no problems. Works fine stand-alone
and docked with a different resolution monitor (than the laptop screen).
All I did was to set the video card in xorg.conf to twinview mode.
I think there was a Nvidia driver/tool that would create a similar xorg.conf
automatically.

Cheers,

 Greetings folks,

I've got a simple issue with multi-mon on a new laptop using E17 on a
 Fedora 11 system.

Perhaps it's just me, but I recently received a new laptop from my
employer and I installed Fedora 11 on it. Using the E17 packages
provided by Dr. Kriehn I've got the system running E17, but I can't get
it to deal with two monitors correctly. It comes up mirrored initially
and if I do anything to the screen resolutions it switches to just the
 laptop screen from then on.

Gnome is having no problems with it, but even trying to force xrandr to
change it's resolution settings directly I can't get it working.
Additionally, the screen gadget doesn't seem to indicate that there is a
second screen / allow me to modify the settings.

I've got a full workstation at home running Fedora 10 with an older
version of E17 on it (haven't updated in a while) and it works great
there (two monitors, both same resolution), but my laptop is going to
have resolutions all over the place. Undocked, docked with 1 monitor,
docked with 2 monitors, undocked with 1 monitor attached and each of
those screens is going to be needing different resolutions. Is this
something that E17 can't do right now?

If it's just something I'm failing to find and I've been looking, I
would love to be pointed in the correct direction.

 Thanks!

Hi,

about a month ago, or so, I've noticed (probably after some updates) that

The solution was to unload the module.
Has anyone seen this too? Or has ideas of what can it be? Or better, how to
solve it?

There is a configuration menu where you can config all that without
needed to use the command line. Otherwise you can try out

All went out ok, with no problems! A few days later, when I rebooted my system, I was enable to start e17 (e16 as well). After the login I was just seeing a blank screen and I was right back to login manager. I then decided to clean .e/e/config/ to see if would solve anything.. and the only thing that changed was that after that I was welcomed to e17 by the crash popup.

Is xcb-stuff really needed?
Since then, I been forced to use kde... To add, I was checking my background files and surprisingly found out that the folder was empty. That one and all others (themes, applications,...) in my .e/. Why was all erased?

Thanks for any help..
Fernando

[e-users] naughty background, flees!!

2005-10-02 Thread Fernando Meira
Hi,

this problem may be similar to Jim's Missing Icons.. but I didn't want to hijack his topic.. so here it goes:
I been trying to use the newest background e17_bg_ocean.edj available
in get-e.org. Must confess that it is just amazing.. it fits just like
a glove in my desktop... well apart that I can't no longer see the
clock pointers (black on black bg)..
So, I did like all other bgs, download it to .e/e/backgrounds/ and e17setroot it to get some fake-transparency.
Until here all's fine. I even update the eap file I created to do e17setroot at startup to point to this new bg file.
But, on next boot I don't have that nice bg on my desktop anymore! And
the best part is that it is no longer in backgrounds folder too...
quite weird..
The second try I set it first with Emblem and repeat e17setroot steps
as before.. again the same result! File is vanish on next boot!!

Why is this happening?
How can I force the bastard to stay quiet where I tell it to be?
Bonus question: I have 6 bgs inside .e/e/backgrounds/ but Emblem shows
me a lot more (15 to be precise), some of them equal!! How can I delete
the repeated ones? and where are all these bgs stored?

Thanks,
Fernando

[e-users] weather embrace modules

2005-08-27 Thread Fernando Meira
Hi.

Good news about the long fight with the weather module. Compiled with
gcc-3.4.4, the corrupted display of the temperature was fixed. However,
the images used by the module are still ugly. What can I do to make it
use the other set of images? In images dir there are both sets of
images. The module uses a mix of both, but mainly the ugly ones. Should
I just delete these ones or can I change it somewhere in a config file?
I also notice that there's an advertising for making new images...

About the embrace module, I tried it out.. but as soon as I made the
config file, e17 blew away. Not even the crash pop-up appeared.. I was
sent directly to Entrance. A new login gave me seconds to disable the
module or I'd still be logging-in by now.. is the module not suppose to
be used or I did something wrong?

Cheers,

This is correct. Entrance will automatically create a user file for youwhen you log in for the first time.
Yep.. that's the idea I had. However, my Entrance does not allow me

arose my doubt. Maybe a new policy of new version.. or maybe when you
have users in config file, no unknown users are allowed...

I had exactly the same problem with Eterm. I also tried it under DR16and everything went well, so I'm quite sure, it's a problem with DR17.The process going crazy is X (in my case Xorg 6.8.2 under gentoo). When
I had that problem I finally ended up deleting ~/.e after thateverything was fine again. Before this happend, I tinkered a bit withenlightenment_remote. I'll try to find out what caused this behavior.btw: The cpu meter acted very strange when that happened: It showed
cpu-usage up to 200%.Oh.. thanks!
I'm also using gentoo and Xorg 6.8.2-r2.
I was suggested to check my 3d acceleration graphics.. which I'm not
using. Maybe if I start using it, something changes. Anyway, if nothing
else works, I'll just clean ~/.e Thanks for the tip!
I never noticed the cpu meter going up to 200.. but it reaches 101 very easily :)

I'm going to update my gcc to 3.4.4 too.. later today!
Did you change your environment to use gcc-3.4.4?? And if so, did you compile _modules anew with the new gcc?
If you did both, then I don't know what can it be... they said 3.4.X would be enough... no need for 4.0!
it's also very strange that the module sometimes displays the nicetransparent icons and sometimes the square ones from

In get-e.org they say that you can change the icons set. I want to do

I also set --enable-tooltips. Is this a stable option already? It doesn't seem to work so well either.

So, did I do something wrong? What can I do?

I ran the script build_config.sh and replaced /etc/entrance_config.cfg with

now it's much harder to change anything, because you need to edit the
script and replace the file (I know that the script can replace
automatically the old config file), while before you edited the config
file directly, in a much easier way to apply the changes.

What are the terminals? It says urxvt on the window, but there are 3

There you have scripts for updating e17 from cvs. There's also a version that makes use of portage, in case you running gentoo.I see, but I don't use gentoo.
In there you have a script to update e17 from cvs *without* using portage, or by other words, when using any distro.
But there's also another script for gentoo users. But you can use the first one.

The script you could be interested in, are in fact 2 script: one for
updating the cvs tree and another for compiling. (there's also a script
for compiling a single package in case you need).
The script that uses portage (for gentoo users) has a interesting
particularity: it checks (by package order) if each one was modified
since your last download. If not, they are not compiled. When it finds
a new (updated) package, the compiling process starts from that package
onwards. It saves you compiling time, if that matters.

[e-users] howto module transparency other bugs

2005-08-14 Thread Fernando Meira
Hi,

I been looking but I couldn't find any howto to enable e17 modules
transparency. For example, for iBar and Pager. Is it possible? If so,
can anyone tell me how, or point me to a guide. Thanks.

Some problems I've noticed since using e17 (cvs):
* since this morning's update:
- weather module now has a menu to choose the location, instead
of the previous URL (cool). However, the only thing I see is a 30, a
white line and fair under it. Is this how it should be? Quite
different from what it used to be.

* before today's update
- 95% of exit enlightenment tries, I was welcomed by the e17
crash window. Don't know why. (this didn't happen again since the
update (though I haven't use it enough yet))
- I use a USB mouse. Works just fine. But when I need the usb
port to other devices, I move the usb mouse to the PS2 port (using an
adaptor). When I use it like this, the mouse behaves quite strangely.
Jumps from one side to the other. Sometimes opens the menu and exits.

I'm not sure if I'm reporting anything new, and if I should provide any
other info. Anyway, feel free to ask for more. I'll be glad to help in
any way.
Cheers,
Fernando.

I followed your steps and got something working.
Now I see that the white line divides the location name and the
forecast. I have what looks to seem a cloud inside a black square. The
forecast says Mostly cloudy (that's why I image that to be a cloud..
otherwise I'd clueless). Instead of the temperature, I have:
19u00b0C. As these were not enough, even my location name is
misspelled!

While I was trying to understand what was wrong with this, I tried to
choose a US location, but end up with your problem, it stopped before
the state I was looking for.

If that helps, I'm running a updated gentoo system.
