Thanks for all your help, Joerg. One last question, if I may? I hope to soon
have 9.1, and would like to avoid the sort of problems I've had this time. I
shall reformat the partition that had 8.2 on, and make another partition
available for /home. I know that I'l have to make sure fstab isn't trying to
mount them, and clean up lilo.conf first. What other precautions should I
take?

I ask this cause I did a lot of recompiling trying to find the right kernel

the resulted kernel crashes at boot. :/ Does the enterprise kernel have
anything else enabled beside the 4GB highmem?
Best regards,

Mandrake kernel sources come with some constituents of a previous
compilation, .config among them, to enable building of kernel modules
for third-party drivers, e.g. nVidia, for one thing:
http://us.mandrakesoft.com/unsupported/README.Mandrake
When you make mrproper, it deletes .config, so move it away before and
back after to use it for make oldconfig. The file /boot/config is how
the running kernel was configured and I have used that with apparent
success when using make xconfig to compile a relatively contemporaneous
Mandrake kernel source or kernel.org source.

I know that PCTel and LT winmodem works well with any MDK. But I always
use tarball files and informations from linmodem, like Praedor.

BTW, the problem you face with pccard and winmodem I had with sound in my
mobo. When using modem, my sound switched off (but system didn't lock
up). And that seems to be a common issue with Via. However, I handled
kppp to stop sound deamon (alsa) e restart after logon, all worked
gracefully.

Maybe, if you turn off or modem (modules) or pccard for a while, you can
avoid lock up.

Well, I did something like that in old mobo with a different pin layout.
Using manual, electronic schemes and a multimeter. That worked out.

Yes...

In the MDK9 any application that uses the KDE's print

Another option:

The majority of the applications is apt to print for

emperorlinux and qlitech, look for linux support for the various
hardware items.

As a general rule of thumb, the newer the laptop model the less likely
it will work without problems unless you're willing to use the bleeding
edge of software. Older models will be better supported.

As another general rule of thumb, which you already seem to be
observing, stick to big name brands in order to increase the potential
pool of other people working with the same model.

[expert] printer abnormalities

2003-03-13 Thread Matt Cahill

  Hey folks,

We're having a really weird situation at our office with our
Mandrake 9.0 box printing three pages of ipp code every so often
(ie hourly). We're printing to a Lexmark E320, via a DLink
DP-101P+ print server, however I don't think either of those are
the culprits.

I've searched far, wide, up, down, but I haven't found anything
about this posted anywhere. This is my last attempt *gulp*.

Sample of the code:

POST / HTTP/1.1
Content-Length: 226
Content-Type: application/ipp
Host: 192.168.xx.xx

attributes-charset iso-8859-1

Has anyone reported anything like this? At this point (as with all)
  any help is appreciated :)

[expert] 9.1rc2 Hostname problem

2003-03-13 Thread Ric Tibbetts
All;
I installed 9.1rc2 last night, and it has an annoying problem. It won't
let me set the hostname. It defaults it to some, very long, strange
thing. In the past, I've always gotten round this, by forcing the
hostname in /etc/sysconfig/network. But that trick isn't working in
9.1rc2.

The workstation is running undder DHCP, and I suspect that's where the
name is coming from. But I've always been able to change it before.

Any suggestions? Or did I miss a big one "again"? :)

Thanks!

Ric

Do not report RC2 here, but on cooker list (or bugzilla). DHCP has been

I didn't know if it was a bug, or a feature. Which is why I asked the
question, and not filed a bug report. This is not at all uncommon on
this list.

But thank you for being yet another, self appointed list moderator. It's

I haven't used it personally.. being a pre-gui user of apache, but there
is an rpm called wizards. If installed, it puts a series of gui tools in
the Mandrake Control Center. It allows you to do this configuration from

know perfectly that RC2 is bugged at that level, since I participate to

network since RC2. Do not forget this is a developer version. So what do
you want me to answer ??? I did not make you any criticism about the bug

I did not want to sound harsh, but I gave a simple and quick answer, and
finally I am criticized. Very rude for someone who just try to help, no ? :(

Update dhcp-client from the cooker and it should fix it (you'll also need
dhcp-common).

While neetmeeting still waits for a response. In my computer, with
gnomemeeting, I still can't see anything!

I can't find anything in google about configuring openmcu under linux and
clients under linux and windows. I really need to setup the videoconference
server as soon as possible.

Anybody can help me? Where can I find the documentation about openmcu?

Thank you!

Re: Re: [expert] 9.1rc2 Hostname problem

2003-03-13 Thread Joe Braddock
Ric,

I'm not sure why this upset you, but I don't think anyone was trying to moderate your
question. I'm also posting this, not so much as a reply to your message but for
others on the list who may not understand why this keeps coming up.

Simply put, though, the proper place for beta questions is the cooker list or
bugzilla. That is not to keep things from being posted here on expert (or even
newbie). It's to make sure that the developers see it on cooker. Since cooker,
expert and newbie are all high volume lists, posting bugs/questions about the beta
versions on cooker ensures that they are seen by the proper people.

I am not a developer (nor a list moderator), but I know that both expert and newbie
lists generate around 200-300 daily messages. It would be either a) quite easy to
miss a bug report or b) very time consuming for a developer to search every message.

Hopefully, you'll reconsider your departure from MDL. At least Mandrake gives you
access to the betas and the developers.

Joeb

I am only mixing computing, and politics, because Mandrakesoft has made
such a crusade out of getting money.
And sorry to inform you, but it is very common for international
politics, and business to be mixed.

Ric, I don't know what problems you had with 9.0, but you must remember that
9.1 is still in beta. rc (release candidate) means it is getting nearer, but
it will still have major bugs. It's there for the experienced to try to find
them before it is too late to iron them out.

That said, it is unfair to bad-mouth a distro when looking at its cooker
versions. If you return to 9.0 we may be able to help with your problems.

Understandable. The advice to post to cooker or file a bug report
was misplaced anyhow as this problem has endless duplicate bug
reports already filed. The assertion to update to current cooker is
valid tho. This and other network and DHCP related stuff has already
been fixed. IME, bugs reports on RC2, or any other beta ios's are
usually reported and fixed within a few days, so bug reporting them
at this late date is invalid. A search of the cooker archive
http://archives.mandrakelinux.com/cooker/ would've revealed this,

On the bright side, if you update to current cooker this weekend,
you'll have 9.1 final ;)

Anne;
Hi, good to hear from you.
I've always liked your answers, you do a great job of being very
diplomatic. Thank you.

-> Personally, I'm on one of my tirades today. But you've seen them from
me before if you've been around this list any length of time. <-

I really wasn't bad-mouthing the distro. And I understand that rc(n) is
beta, and is bound to have problems. Which is why my original post was a
simple question, to see if I was being brain damaged, and missed a
previously reported problem, or if it was a new bug that I would need to
report.

I was then told not to report it here, to take it to the cooker list,
etc.
My critisizm was not for the distro. If I didn't like MDL, I wouldn't
bother with it. It was for the (seemingly) self appointed list
moderators that continually feel it their duty to play cop on this list.

However. That turned out to be a misunderstanding, and I've made my
appology to the individual involved.

FWIW:
I have 9.1rc2 installed, and with the exception of the hostname issue,
am happy with it. This is the first version of 9.1 that actually
installed on my tired old PC (can't afford any fancy new computers..).

So far, I'm quite happy with it. It even "correctly" detected my
printer, and set it up at install time (a detail that another well known
distro seems to have overlooked).

Now wait a minute here... I'm OK with whoever wants to be list moderator,
and they can have their choice of whoever they want to be their Leu-ten-ant
or even Sargeant-at-Arms, if they want.

However, I have a permit, here, that entitles me to be an @$$hole anytime I
feel the need.

Here, I'll read it to you.

"This worthy document, as testified by Wait a minute. That's not my
@$$hole permit, that's part of my marriage licence from 1965. Well, come to
think of it, that was a kind of an @$$hole permit in its own right. So as my
beleagured bride can attest, I have a permit to be an @$$hole anytime, which
I am known to exercise at will.

So, let us move back to OT discussions. I am reassured beyond words there
are enough of us present who already have @$$hole permits to destroy any
usability this list might ever have.

Trouble is, you know, that at times like this feelings can be tender, wherever
you live. Leave politics alone for the list.

Your experience with this release is encouraging. After watching all the
struggles I get nervous about moving on and up. It was the same with 9.0 -
but when I did it, it went flawlessly.

So far, IMHO, you would do well to be nervous about 9.1, it's been more
problemmatic than most previous MDL releases. So far, rc2 is the first
to even install & run on my hardware.

I still confine use of betas to my non-critical systems. I learned that
lesson many years ago. But 9.1 is "getting there". I need to beat it up
some more though. It was late last night when I finally got it loaded,
and I got hung up on the hostname issue (thank you to all who pointed
out the fix for that).

I'm looking forward to working with it tonight.

Re: [expert] Boycotting MDL

2003-03-13 Thread Miark
Ric,

I myself disagree with France's actions in the Security Councel and have a
personality inclined to boycotting. Nevertheless, the Linux cause--and
Mandrake specifically--is far more important than the expression of
political disagreement. Remember how Perot split the Republican vote and
allowed Clinton to win? We Linux users don't want to do M$ any favors by
dividing ourselves on Mandrake. Unlike Red Hat (which is your only real
alternative) Mandrake's work directly challenges Winsux on the desktop, and
it aims at making Linux as easy to use as possible via draktools, etc. We
_must_ support that fight. If France says no to military action, America
will go anyway and succeed. If we say no to Mandrake, then we're hurting
Linux.

The French gov't may be on a crusade to obstruct America's plans, but
Mandrake's cause is to provide computing freedom, and that's a just cause.
If you want to boycott France, withhold vacation and wine dollars. But I'd
ask you not to cut of your nose to spite your face as it relates to
Mandrake.

Hallo!

I've installed Mdk9, php-nuke 6, mysql, php4, postfix and apache. It seems to
work fine, but no automatic message sent from php-nuke arrives.

Postfix seems to work (I've started kmail, configured it to use localhost:25
and sent successfully a message).

Here's the smtp configuration of /etc/php.ini:

[mail function]
SMTP   = localhost:25   ;for win32 only
;sendmail_from = [EMAIL PROTECTED] ;for win32 only
;sendmail_path = sendmail -t -i :25;for unix only, may supply arguments
as well (default is 'sendmail -t -i')

I hate political threads on Mandrake lists, and I disagree with Ric's

Mandrake, and I feel that makes it a valid thread for the list.

Ric and others,

This is a message that was just posted to Cooker. I'm posting it here
because it's directly relevant to this discussion:

Miark

Date: 13 Mar 2003 15:59:06 -0400
From: Jean-Michel Dault <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: [Cooker] OT: War, french fries and Mandrake Linux

There has been a lot of discussion about Americans wanting to boycott
french products, and some mails of people that said they wouldn't buy
Mandrake Linux because of that.

Some facts you might want to know:

- The Mandrake Linux boxes sold in the stores in the USA are *not* a
French product, but an american-made product, since the boxes, CDs and
manuals are manufactured by Pearson/Macmillan right in the US.

- MandrakeSoft has developers all around the globe. The security updates
are made by a Canadian, the I18N leader is in Belgium, the Documentation
team has people in Quebec and Argentina, our kernel guy is in Spain, our
LSB and DrakXterm guy is in Ohio... and I am Quebecois ;-)

If the Americans want to truly boycott French products, I suggest they
go with the typical: Bordeaux wine and Camembert. After all, they are
products that the average Joe Sixpack doesn't buy anyway, as he prefers
Budweiser and Cheez Whiz ;-)

During my last trip to NYC, I was shocked at the fact that you can buy
beer 24/24 (except sunday mornings) at any corner store, while you have
to go to a Liquor Store to get wine, and that any decent bottle costs
about the same price as a Windows XP server box, that is, an arm and a
leg...

Resolvement: the CUPS config apparently was set to poll the printer
every 30 seconds (!?). We #'d the line, and it seems the problem is
gone, but I find it odd that the problem even occurred in the first
place - perhaps not an inherent problem with the 30-sec poll setting
(by default, because I didn't touch it), but with the end result.
Weird...but it's fixed, and now I concentrate on bigger and better
things.

Obviously it's something in /etc/cron.hourly/ that's doing it. Run
every one of the scripts you see there until you find one that spits
stuff out of the printer. Also, look in /etc/cron.d/ as one of those
may be configured to run hourly.

Normally you see:

$ urpmi prog1 prog2

  Installing prog1

All I saw with that new version was:

Re: [expert] Lilo conf lines

2003-03-13 Thread Joerg Mertin
Hi Anne,

actually - when I do an operating System backup - there are only 2
things I do backup.

From my Home partition "/home/smurphy" I perform as user root a:
tar zcvf backup_etc.tar.gz /etc
tar zcvf bac,up_mail.tar.gz /var/spool/mail
This backups the entire /etc directory. All configuration files are held
in there - should be.

The other things I do always do. I always create a /usr/local and an
/opt partition. These are very important. If I install/compile software
on my own - it goes under /usr/local/. If I install a big package using
so called install.sh scripts - they always go into /opt .

OK - whjat is very important here is to make sure you remember the
partition of the /usr/local /opt and /home partitions. B.e. on my System
these are:

Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda1 577096164548383232 31% /
/dev/hda3 3960976 1150992 2809984 30% /home
/dev/hda8 8159388 5046008 2698908 66% /opt
/dev/hda1014594836 7120312 6733128 52% /scratch
/dev/hda7 489960 62377402284 14% /tmp
/dev/hda2 3960976 2148128 1611636 58% /usr
/dev/hda9 4055776195284 3654464 6% /usr/local
/dev/hda6 3083440172068 2754740 6% /var
Here you see -
/home is hda3
/opt is hda8
The etc-Directory - e.g. configuration files - are backuped in the /home
directory. Another thing you see here is the /scratch Directory. I
usually put all stuff - anything - source-files, mirrors etc. into the
/scratch directory.

All Mails of the /var/spool/mail directory are also backed up. The Users
- are all in the etc-backup - so that shouldn't be a problem :)

What you need to realize in the process of reinstalling a new operating
System - is that you only need to reformat the directories where you do
not have "private" data in.

So - what is left ? During install - all you need to do is:
1. Do not repartition your partitions - where data you want to keep
relies in ! In my case these are always:
   /opt
   /home
   /scratch
   /usr/local
2. During Install -
   * make sure the installer assigns the partitions to the existing
mount points. Best is to do a hardcopy of it first.
   * reformat the partitions the Operating System is in.
   In my case:
   /
   /usr
   /var
   /tmp
I always do a tmp and a var partition. This to prevent filling of /log/*
or /tmp/* files to fill the / partition and make the system unusable.

The content of the /home, /opt and /scratch (in my case) will be
preserved. So - I'll find all that data in there. Of course - if you are
not familiar with all that stuff - make backups on another media before
doing so. I do it the "Linus Torvalds" way:

"Backups are for cowards. Post it and the Internet will backup it up for
you" :)))

Well, Linus once sent something like this to a newsgroup ;) Was a great
laugh I had - but wheh I became more confident with the Systems and
knewing what I was doing - i adopted the same way of thinking :) Weird -
but I really never lost data since then as I always had to make sure
there wouldn't be data losses.

What you need to remember - the etc-backup contains all configuration
stuff you had. I would never opt to copy the files over to the new
system - using the backup file - if the major-number of the application
has changed. If it has not changed - most probably it wouldn't make a
big difference. If it has changed - open both fils in Emacs - and adapt.

The /home and /opt directories will held the data/applications you had.
Eventually you'll have to create ne entries in the KDE-menus for the
apps if they where global (e.g. root had installed these in the
KDE-System menus). If it was installed as user - the links are still in
your home.

If the KDE-System gets update - always move your .kde and Desktop
Directories to a backup location and restore these. e.g.:
cd ~
mkdir Backup
mv .kde* Desktop Backup
--

Log in again - and the system will recreate you new: .kde and Desktop
directories and default configuratons.
Try to reconfigure your system using the KDE-Control-Center.
Applications - that had a configuration files or data file as kmail or
organizer, kaddressbook - copy the
~Backup/.kde/share/apps/ ~/.kde/share/apps/
~Backup/.kde/share/config/ ~/.kde/share/config/

Note that the second line - you should test. Eventually the major
release numbers have changed - so you should best reconfigure manually.

For the rest - if a problem occurs - send a Mail to the list ;)
There always somewhere here to help ...
Cheers

Geez, I kinda feel like I should mark this OT since it's just a problem
about Linux and my computer...

I'm trying to use a new MIB with ucd-snmp on Mandrake 9.0. I've started
doing some reading, whoever named this Simple Network Management
Protocol must have been thinking "Simple in comparision to building the
Golden Gate Bridge" or something.

Any way, it looks like the process is to use a series of tools which
compile the mib into C code and then turn it into a loadable module
which the snmpwalk and snmpd agents will then be able to access
transparently.

My problem is that the first tool in the chain, mib2c, dies with a
complaint that Perl-SNMP isn't there. But it is.
perl-Net-SNMP-4.0.2-1mdk
perl-SNMP-MIB-Compiler-0.06-3mdk (out of Cooker as the 9.0 version
refused to install because of a fubar'd dependencies statement; however
the code is still 0.06.)

I'm hesitant to start over from the latest source, which is of course
the recommendation to all problems at net-snmp.souceforge.net. Any
ideas?

Re: [expert] Boycotting MDL

2003-03-13 Thread Joerg Mertin
Hi Mate,

I would like to remember you - that what you constitution is meant to
give you (gave you in the past) - the US does not give to other
countries, notably the Irak, and Europe: Freedom of Speach and Decision!

In this regard - I am German Citizen, due to my father's Job - born in
Turky, lived there 5 year, 12 in Tunisia, 4 in Portugal, 2 in Algeria, 9
in Germany and 4 in Switzerland.

So far so good - I can say - that I actually know different cultures,
way of livings, and due to the 14 years Arabic/Islamic experience I had
- I do know that the US is doing a big mistake by attacking a country
they wouldn't care about if it hadn't Oil.
The Problem with this action is - that the arabic culture is Alive way
longer than the US culture and has proven to subist long generations -
while US culture has last only some centuries. Now - answer me this one
question only:

How - does a culture - that has not even proved to be liable and correct
through time - wants to prove another culture that survived several
1000Years - that they are wrong ?

Sorry mate. But you guys are going to provoque the 3rd Woldware or a
really big wawe of terrorism - because you don't know what you doing in
long term. Believe me - I have lived with those people - and in general
they _do_ care about what other cultures are doing to them - and their
Interpretation of the Coran will always give them the right to call out
a religious war.

Remember - other cultures are thinking differently. Your way of thinking
is new - but has still to be proven to be correct.

If you want to really fight them - give them something to loose.

What would you do - if you had nothing to loose ???

So - in other terms - I do perfectly agree that France is not willing to
fight the Irak, as the Germans do.

But - what are friends good for - if not telling their Friends they are
doing a terrible mistake ?!!! You shouldn't listen to the war - and stop
believing the Bush & Bush's puddel propaganda.

Start thinking by YOURSELF for god's sake !

	J. Mertin

PS: I do write this - because I'm already blacklisted by the US. I am
not allowed to take a flight that crosses US territory. And I'm happy to
contribute to something I believe is right !

2003-03-13 Thread JOHAM,DAVID (HP-Boise,ex1)

This might be the DHCP problem that was talked about today at some length.
Is it 9.1 RC2? If so, you'll want to wait for 9.1 final or update the DHCP
packages from cooker. I'm not sure which ones, but a reading of the archives
will get you where you need to be. Look for HOSTNAME in your search.

Hi all,

my son's just loaded mdk 9.1 on his machine and finds kde runs very slow,
much
slower than 9.0. The machine is a celeron 400 with 96mb ram.
I wont find out more till I get home. Are there any ideas that he could try
in
the mean time?

Thanks
Gary.

Talk about the proverbial "Ghost in the Machine" wow. The other thing I
was wondering... does Windows have any kind of polling that runs over
port 631? since this is the printer port by default in Linux perhaps
it's a reaction to something Windows does. In other words windows spams
the network, Linux receives the spam and takes what it thinks is the
right action... I'm pulling at straws here but it's all I can think of.

Gary If he's downloaded and run the last iso's for RC2 then yes KDE was
slow... do the needed updates from the latest in cooker (keep doing
through the weekend and you'll have 9.1 release!) and you should notice
a very large improvement. On my 500mhz box here I run Ice but if I try
to start Konq now it takes about 2 sec to start... so running in kde
should be even faster.

As I understood a lot of the discussion it boiled down to you should not have
to edit etc/hosts to include an alias for either the server name or the
loopback name
so
what works for me on rc1
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.0.1 dads.tharp dads
192.168.0.16greybox.tharp
is not really "correct" but as far as I can tell it works ok
I think they said
 127.0.0.1 localhost
would be the "correct" entry, but it sure made stuff slow
try it and let us/me know

Chill out guys..

To the Americans, it probably does feel like the world is not supporting
them..

however if Sadam and/or Co blows the tower up the tower in paris or
something.. you'd be wishing they did something earlier.

I personally think Sadam is an Asshole that needs to be removed one way or
the other.

The end point to me, is that weather its for the right reason or not.. the
US wants to do it..

Let them.. Sadam shouldn't be in power anyway.. so even if the US was
doing it for oil. (and I can't claim to know all their reasons.) They (US)
shouldn't be stopped from doing it... Right or wrong reasons aside.. iraq
is a powderkeg.. waiting for a spark.. a war now might well be less damaging
to life then a war later. (and its a given that eventually there will be a
war with iraq... the UN will eventually do it.. might as well get it over
with now while there is still a chance to be a minor one.

just IMHO...

[expert] Lost symlinks from /usr/lib

2003-03-13 Thread Alfredo Cole
Hi:

I'm using LM 9.0, and while installing a basic
interpreter for my son to practice, the installation
script changed all the symlinks from /usr/lib into
hard links. I could reinstall, but I have a lot of
things already working properly, and would like to
leave that option as a last result. Could I "update"
my installation, and would that repair the damage, or
is there another way?

Thank you and regards,

I just installed ucd-snmp and ucd-snmp-utils (libsnmp0 was already
installed) from the 9.0 CDs, did "service snmpd start" and as a regular
user issued "snmpwalk localhost public system":
system.sysDescr.0 = Linux gypsy.pfortin.com 2.4.19-16mdk #1 Fri Sep 20
18:15:05 CEST 2002 i686
system.sysObjectID.0 = OID: enterprises.ucdavis.ucdSnmpAgent.linux
system.sysUpTime.0 = Timeticks: (877) 0:00:08.77
system.sysContact.0 = Root <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (configure
/etc/snmp/snmp.conf)
system.sysName.0 = gypsy.pfortin.com
[snip]

Next, I got the same thing you do with mib2c... I'm not a perl type; but
tried:
perl -MCPAN -e 'install SNMP'
which failed... similar problem on my 8.2 box...

But... if you're just looking to read the MIBs, you should have enough
once snmpwalk is running...

[expert] Suggestion to eliminate off topic postings

2003-03-13 Thread Damon Lynch
The list maintainer has in the past indicated he has very little if any
tolerance for off topic postings. Furthermore, an off topic list has
already been created:

http://edificationweb.com/mailman/listinfo/mdk-offtopic_edificationweb.com

But obviously people still feel the need to use this list from time to
time. so how about a rule that says if you've got an off topic
discussion you're just itching to have, put it in no more than one line
of your signature of a genuinely on topic e-mail, notifying where the
off topic discussion can be held.

Todd, is that ok with you?

I free to take up "with them". What a marvelous thing that is! We've
fought long and hard to have that right.

And like so many before me, I'll continue to protect that right.
Something many on this list cannot know, because they've never
experienced "human rights" in thier "older, more experienced" countries.

I'm personally boycotting Mandrake Linux. When the French remember who
their firends are, and support them, then perhaps this American will
return, and support the French again.
Until then, you can kiss "my" American dollars good-bye.

Re: [expert] KDE3.1 for MD >= 8.1?

2003-03-13 Thread Ric Tibbetts
Ya know people, There used to be a time with Linux, that what you get
was really bare bones. It was the kernel, some gnu utilities, and a
basic installer.
Then "we the Linux community" would scurry about, and find the bits that
we liked, and wanted, and we spent some time, getting to know them, and
massaging them onto our systems.

And when we were all done (here's the scary bit), people used to take
what they had packaged up, and put it on a web site for all to use.
What a fantastic model that was. That truely WAS the very heart & soul
of Linux in the early days.

But alas, today, we are besieged with spoiled, whiney (l)users who want
it all done for them. Sod this "learn how" nonsense. You just want it
all packaged up, nince & tidy for you. What a spoiled bunch of windows
(l)users you are.

Show some hair. Go get the friggin packages, build 'em, and then SHARE
'em! What a fantastic idea that IS!
How about you quit wanting to MandrakeSoft to give you everything, and
give something back? That's the way it used to work. It still should.

Mandrakesoft can't possibly be expected to support a continuing
production schedule, AND go find evey piece of software, and make it
work with every release they've ever put out.

I fall back on my original statement:
Do it yourself, and share.
That's what it's all about.
Ric

OR: Go get KDE x.xx and install it yourself!

Yes, lets to the same work a thousand times over! In stead of Mandrake
doing it just once and sharing it with their community. Very smart...

Or you do it and share it with the community so that they do not have
to do it a thousand times over. Become a Club volunteer and package
KDE3.1 for club members, I bet you would get a VIP membership out of it.

Damon,

Many people are too selfish to stick to just rules. What else do you have
in mind?
