Hi,

You can assign a shortcut key combination to switch between DOM and group

Emilio!
Do you see the
More Info: expanded disclosure triangle?
I can expand that in the get info section of the file and the info including
where the file is downloaded appears there. It seems to be backward at least
on my computer. If it says expanded then it is collapsed and vice versa

Re: File Source Details Help

2015-06-10 Thread Barry Hadder
Look for the “where from:” label in the more info section of the information
window and it should be there.
After you find the general label, move vo down the column of labels until you
find more info. Then expand if necessary. Move vo down until you find where
from and move vo right to read the value.

More questions about installing windows on my macbook pro

2015-06-10 Thread Ted Phillips
Hi all. I have been reading the various topics having to do with installing
windows on a mac and am very nervous about a few things. First of all, I read
the article on installing Windows on an external drive and it looks pretty
complex to me. The method of installing Windows on the internal drive sounds
easier, but there are problems to be faced there as well. I only have about 40
GB of space left on my internal drive. Does anybody know how much space
Windows 8 takes? I have even entertained buying a tablet for the few tasks I
need windows for until I learn if there is a way to perform them on a macbook.
If anybody would be willing to e-mail me off list or Skype with me and give me
some pointers with this I would sure appreciate it.
Thanks all

File Source Details Help

Hello everyone,

When accessing the “more info” feature of a particular file, I press VO-right
arrow and interact with the scroll area.
I use this same keystroke feature to move through the details of a file.
However, I am not able to view the “source” information about the file in
question.
I have not had good success with this and it is slightly frustrating.
I want to know if others on this list have found a solution that gives the
source details of a file i.e. From whence it was downloaded because I want to
use this information in a Hazel rule.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Hi,
Go into Mail Preferences, interact with the Toolbar, VO Space on General, stop
interacting, and then, VO right until you get to I think it’s called “New
Message Notifications” or something similar. Then, VO space on that Popup Menu
and then, you can choose among the different options.
Hope this helps,

I have had to do a reinstall of the OS on my Mac Mini. All is well, but I can’t
get notifications to be turned off for E-Mail. This is annoying because any
time a new post arrives, notifications has to interrupt whatever I’m doing. I

Re: Major frustrations and a big predicament

2015-06-10 Thread Barry Hadder
First, find classification, switch to groups, vo-space on classification, then
move vo to the list of clasifications.
interact with the list and vo-space on the clasification item that you want.
Hope that helps.

I was going to renew my developer membership and test 9, but if I can’t

I’m asking because I am hoping people here will have suggestions which are both
accessible *and* less expensive!!

I gave the name of the app so people could go read about what it does and then
hopefully make intelligent suggestions!

Sheesh-you guys amaze me at times!!
thanks for any help, etc..

One wonders why they would make it so you can’t DFU your device back to the
last nonbeta release of iOS.

I was going to renew my developer membership and test 9, but if I can’t
downgrade to a stable release for my day to day use, and jsut beta when I have
time for that task specifically, I don’t think I’ll reenroll this year.

Sad day.

Re: claarification wanted with respect to using Messages for Facebook

2015-06-10 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Not necessarily. Your FaceBook username is usually different than your eMail
address that you may use to log into FaceBook. It often is some version of
your name and usually, but not always, has a number attached to it.

So, for example:

• Login to FaceBook with eMail joe.b...@gmail.com
• FaceBook username is Joe.Blow.8 which can be found at
www.facebook.com/username
• iMessage setup would use joe.blo...@chat.facebook.com
.

So, it really has nothing to do with your eMail address.

HTH.

Hi Sadam.
Do you have the URL that was shown on the update notes in BlindSquare? I was
going to go and look at it, but I lost the screen on my iPhone and I can’t
figure out how to get it back so I check out iBeacons, or whatever it is
called. I wanted to see what places are on it.

Gigi
for one thing.

By the way, for those of you going to the ACB convention in Dallas, do you know
there is an app you can download from the App Store for navigation within the
convention hotel? They say it was done for the San Francisco airport, and I
downloaded it for free. I can’t try it out util I go to the convention in July.

where I'm coming from, so though this may be borderline, I don't think it's

So, this morning, I installed the beta of I O S 9 on my IPhone 5S. I'm not
at liberty to state the specifics, but I found a bug which is quite severe and
could really effect accessibility in one aspect. Though it's not anything that
would render the device useless, it definitely is severe enough it needs to be
fixed. Again, I'm not at a position to elaborate on this, but my point is, I
logged into the Apple developer web site, and proceeded to the bug reporter. I
should add that I tried this both with Capitan and with Yosemite. Both have
the same results. Once I clicked the button for a new bug report, it popped up
asking what type of bug I'm filing. Under the "Other" heading, I chose
accessibility. This opened up a window to create a new accessibility report.
I hit vo+Right arrow, and got down to classification. Once I hit vo+space on
the item that says select classification clickable, nothing at all happened.
Absolutely nothing. So, I cannot accessibly continue the process, as at this
point, I get totally stuck. I tried routing my mouse pointer with
vo+command+F5, then vo+shift+space, I tried hitting spacebar, return, clicking
the literal trackpad, interacting, vo+shift+M, ctrl+clicking the trackpad,
absolutely nothing! is working. I tried with Safari, and with Chrome both on
Yosemite, and on Capitan with the same results.

I tried on Windows with Windows 8.1 in both IE 11, and in Firefox. Both were
tested with JAWS 16, and with NVDA 2015.2. Once I clicked the new button for a
new report, I tried hitting enter on the accessibility button, and absolutely
nothing happened. In JAWS, I did an insert+escape to refresh the screen, no
good. I re-initialized Aria, just in case that was what it was using, no good.
I tried routing my jaws cursor to my virtual PC cursor then clicking. No
good. In NVDA, I routed my mouse pointer with NVDA+numpad slash, then left
clicked with num pad slash. No good. I even tried with Window-Eyes, routing
the mouse with insert+num pad plus, then doing a left click. Again, no good.
Nothing happened.

When I called Apple developer support to let them know about this, and that
the accessibility of the bug tracker was broken, they didn't exactly blow me
off, but they didn't seem really all that concerned either. They basically
told me they'd file it with

  apple.com/feedback

When I told them that I don't know how long that would take but it probably
wouldn't get solved very soon that method, most likely, the guy got a little
bit defensive with me. He told me that in his words, they don't support the
Bug tracker in his department, therefore he doesn't have a way to open a ticket
with the engineers to get this fixed.

When I told him that I just spent the very last 99 dollars I had for this
program, he got snovvy and said, then you better start developing your apps so
you can get paid back. I told him I don't program, I don't write applications.
The reason I joined was to report bugs, and help them with making sure things
were accessible. I told him if I can't do that and report bugs in the first
place, then what is the point therefore of me being a dev. I told him I'd paid
99 dollars for this, and therefore feel it's my right to be able to have this
looked into quickly, or to get a refund. He told me unfortunately, he doesn't
have the tools to push the feedback up to the bug reporter engineers. That
might be true, I don't know if it is or not, but if it is, then, that's
frankly, ridiculous! Especially considerring he was a senior advisor in the
developer department.

When I asked him for a refund, he told me that their policy is no refunds no
matter what. He said, plus, even if they did! refund me, they've changed the

So, this morning, I installed the beta of I O S 9 on my IPhone 5S. I'm not at
liberty to state the specifics, but I found a bug which is quite severe and
could really effect accessibility in one aspect.

When I called Apple developer support to let them know about this, and that the
accessibility of the bug tracker was broken, they didn't exactly blow me off,
but they didn't seem really all that concerned either. They basically told me
they'd file it with

apple.com/feedback

He said, plus, even if they did! refund me, they've changed the
way they deploy I O S 9 to devices. Technically, I'm not probably supposed to
tell you all this, but I feel it's in you all's best interest to know, so you
don't totally ruin your devices. If you upgrade to I O S 9, it even says right
there on the web site, you cannot downgrade back to I O S 8. Not even
apparently with D F U mode. So,

Re: I can't find the download link.

2015-06-10 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland

Chris,

That isn't the case.

I called Apple developer support, and they helped me out. They've merged it
into one program now, so the one 99 dollar payment covers you for all 3,
Safari, I O S, and OSX.

I really think however that Apple is making things way more confusing with
how they have things now set up. Though I like not having to spend twice as
much money, the sacrifice is, they've revamped the developer web site, and
trust me, in some ways, not for the better. It works ok, but there is a
major problem which I'll write about shortly, and no, it won't break NDA
doing so, as I'm going to keep it very general.

To get to the OSX download, you need to go to

http://developer.apple.com

Don't sign in though. On this page, click on the link that says Resources.

Now, on this page, find the link that says OS 10.

From here, click on the link for 10.11 Capitan, and then finally click on

download.

Now, you'll see a link to sign in. Click that link, and log in with your
Apple ID. Then, finally, click download again. Now the app store should
open asking you to sign in to redeem your code. Again, for? a? third! time!
sign in with your ID. Isn't this fun? LOL! Not? Now, finally your code
will be redeemed, and the download should start. Once done, like other
versions of OSX, it'll pop up and start the installation process.

Chris.

Re: synchronise files/folders privately

2015-06-10 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
So if your iphone/ipad is synched/backed up to your Mac via iTunes then
all the files are local on the Mac, not in icloud. If you could set
iTunes to store these backups in a network drive from your NAS, would
that not get you where you want to be?

It would be so nice If I can put files/folders on my mac, they are synchronized

I tought bitorent sync could handle this task but I can’t see yet how it should
work for me.
Qsync, a plugin for the qnap nas should also handle the job but the sync

If there are any other plugins, experiences or possibilities I can look for, it
would be great to hear of you.

claarification wanted with respect to using Messages for Facebook

Okay,

I've got the steps down for adding my Facebook account to Messages except for
one thing. When I enter the user name part, do they want just
rforet7706 and not the e-mail server part? In other words, should it look like

or should it look like this:
rforet7...@comcast.net@facebook.chat.com
since

synchronise files/folders privately

2015-06-10 Thread William Windels
Hello all,
I would like to sync files/folders with different devices: iphone/ipad and also
mac computers.
There are many cloud-services that can handle this but I would like to store it
privately.
For this, and other tasks, I have a nas device from qnap.
It would be so nice If I can put files/folders on my mac, they are synchronized
to me nas and after synching , they are offline available on my mac and
iOS-devices…

I tought bitorent sync could handle this task but I can’t see yet how it should
work for me.
Qsync, a plugin for the qnap nas should also handle the job but the sync
program for the mac seems not to work correctly.

If there are any other plugins, experiences or possibilities I can look for, it
would be great to hear of you.

Kind regards
William Windels

Re: I can't find the download link.

2015-06-10 Thread christopher hallsworth
I think we can all help with this since nothing specific has been disclosed.
Unfortunately you will have to renew or subscribe to the Mac Developer Program
as well. This is still a separate payment. This is going by when I renewed my
membership the morning of Friday 1 May. Things may have changed now, but that
was the state of play then. Once you've renewed or subscribed though, you
should see the OS X 10.11 Developer Beta ready for you to download. Good luck.

Re: time for Apple to get a new default voice

2015-06-10 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Christopher. I think it depends on the hearing loss. I've worked with people
for example with a hearing loss who find Alex unintelligible once you go a
little above the default rate, but who can have compact Daniel cranked up
remarkably fast.
Personally I'd be delighted to have Eloquence on my Mac because Alex
mispronounces far too much for my liking. The moral of the story is the more
choice of TTS a screen reader company can offer, the better. Speech is
extremely subjective.

Re: time for Apple to get a new default voice

2015-06-10 Thread E.T.
If anyone has doubts that Alex will be kept on, then sending Apple
some feedback would be the ticket because Apple cannot read minds.

Alex is great for a male voice. Samantha is the best for a female
voice...almost. She eats some words so adding Siri would be a definite plus.

Re: Braille translating tables wish for VoiceOver

2015-06-10 Thread E.T.
Are there any indications that either or both HIMS and Apple plan to
remove the older braille tables at some point? I have not started
learning UEB but am prepared to do so soon.

of us switch to UEB that the Grade 2 tables which are now listed as U.S.
braille by VoiceOver be kept as a choice until some of us are not on the earth
any more.

Having said all that, it will be easier for computers to put in format in UEB.
Usually when I’m writing along I don’t care about that, but if I did, UEB would
be easier to input things like italics, boldface, script, etc. into your
braille text. It should be easier, for those who care, to switch between Nemeth
Code and UEB also since there are specific symbols for doing so.

Re: Braille translating tables wish for VoiceOver

2015-06-10 Thread Eugenia Firth
Actually, I think the current Grade 2 table could handle italics because you
start it (unless we are talking about UEB), two italics dots 46 to start and
then just dots 46 to end. Doesn’t sound too hard to do. Right now if type dots
46 VoiceOver says underline. Underlining could be done too in the Grade 2
translator because it is started with dots 456 dash and ended with the
termination sign, dots 3, 6. Some of the others have their ways which could be
done also; things like boldface and italics boldface.

Re: Messages

2015-06-10 Thread David Taylor
Yes, that happened here too. However, what I do is I use Notification Centre.
This speaks messages when they come in, and my other trick is that when I
interact with my conversation table, I hear the message I want to reply to and
just type. I find that it leaves me in the table and new messages read as they
come in in that conversation too. I only go the the HTML when I think a few
messages have come in, but Notification Centre is a great way to keep up.

Cheers

Braille translating tables wish for VoiceOver

2015-06-10 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys
As a proofreader who has been forced to study UEB lately, I would first like to
say that UEB is easier to read than to write; in fact, in my no-so-humble
opinion, it’s a real pain to write for those of us who have been using braille
since the earth was young. I suggested this to HIMS and I would please, pretty
please, like to suggest to Apple, that even though BANA thinks to make the rest
of us switch to UEB that the Grade 2 tables which are now listed as U.S.
braille by VoiceOver be kept as a choice until some of us are not on the earth

Re: Using the messages app

2015-06-10 Thread Brett C.
This can be a mystery. I've found two options that help, but no guarantee. The
first is the o'l sign in and out of Messages on all devices, maybe even restart
. The second is to have each device sending with the same caller ID. I've found
that if one device is sending with my phone number, and another is sending with
my email as the ID, messages may not sync as well.

time for Apple to get a new default voice

Subject line pretty much says it all. Nothing against Alex mind you: but,
frankly, I reckon it's high time Apple adopted a new and much more updated

choice. Here's hoping we see this one in Elcapitan.

Re: Interesting messenger related issues

2015-06-10 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

In my opinion, the Messages app is the best one for use in Yosemite. Try going
into your Messages Preferences, under the Accounts tab and confirm that all
your settings and credentials are inputted properly. You could even remove
them then re-add ensuring that you input your correct info and that should
clean things up. The Messages app integrates with the Contacts app on your Mac
as well as just recognizing phone numbers in order to display information to
you. So, make sure that all is good within your Contacts app data as well.

Hi,

You could link your Bell south address to the existing gMail account, then it's
a reasonably simple process of telling the MacVisionaries Group settings to
send mail to the Bell South address instead. When multiple eMails are linked
to the same gMail account, this process becomes relatively painless.

Re: voice over and icons?

2015-06-10 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

It sounds like whoever coded the app for managing the storage device used
custom elements without any accessibility API considerations. I've encountered
this before and the only way I've been able to deal with it is to turn on
mouse-keys and count the horizontal and vertical places I need to go then use
mouse keys to click the mouse. It's a pain in the behind, but it's what I had
to do for their lack of consideration. I've done it both with sighted
assistance or on my own, depending on the patience at the time and the severity
of just clicking the mouse wherever.

A fun little Apple Watch discovery

2015-06-10 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi all,

So yesterday I was dictating an email on my phone in Spanish. I had there fore
switched the keyboard from English to Spanish, and I accidentally forgot to
switch it back to English when I was done. this morning my husband sent me a
text, and when I went to reply from my watch, lo and behold, all the
auto-responses were in Spanish! How cool is that? Of course, dictating my
answer in English also didn't work at all. Lol Now, though I have another
wish for the watch - to be able to switch languages. :) I had to go upstairs
and do it from my phone. Nonetheless, it was a fun discovery.
Cheers,
Donna

I can't find the download link.

2015-06-10 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Guys, I don't intend to breech NDA here, but I do need some help. I can't seem
to find the download link to OSX Capitan. Yes, I have paied the $99 this
morning to renew my developer account which I initially created last year.

Here's what I'm doing so far. Hopefully you all can tell me what I'm doing
wrong.

I'm starting out by going to:

http://developer.apple.com

I'm then going to the members center and signing in with my Apple ID and
password.

Once in, I see where the link is for the SDK's and betas. I click that link,
then I do see IOS, and I was able to successfully get IOS 9 downloaded. That
works fine. I got it running on my IPad Air. I can't say more about that than
that, but I did manage to get it working. I'll say that much.

However, I see no links for mac, or for OSX, or capitan, or anything of the
sort. When I renewed my membership, the only program it gave me access to said
Apple Developer program. So, it kind of makes me wonder. It used to be, I had
to pay $99 for the I O S developer program, and another $99 for the mac OSX
program. I really hope I don't have to still do that. Being it only had one
program that I was able to renew, which was the Apple Developer, and being that
last year I had both the mac and I O S programs, it looks like they've merged
them both into one, with one payment. God that would be nice if so!

Anyway, yeah, after going to the link for the SDK and betas, I don't see
anywhere to download Capitan. Again, I know due to NDA you all can't really
give me any specifics about the OS itself, but can you all at least! help me
with figuring out where to go to get it downloaded now that I am an active
developer?

Thanks.

Chris.

Hi All,

Just to let you know that Siri voices are now available to use as
standard voice over too. This is cool as it normalises the experience
between asking siri stuff and voice over. Or let’s say voice over is now
siri :)

Cheers,

Re: IOS 9 siri voices now available

2015-06-10 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Ah, Android. Let’s not forget that Apple are now offering a migration tool
that helps you move from Android to iOS, in the form of an app on both
platforms, all the while offering Apple Music for Android. Seems like a fairly
complete transition with all the important data, including text messages.

Not sure if I can deal with the intellectual dishonesty implied by a platform
vendor using the openness of another platform to migrate data while claiming
superior security which would make the opposite transition quite a bit harder,
but oh well, I really shouldn’t expect anything less from The Great Fruity One
in the sky. A bit of Googling says the opposite is in fact possible, albeit
that it requires more work without one of the vendor-specific apps. And to be
fair to Apple, Android switchers are increasing in numbers (chiefly as a result
of the screen size) so I’ll give Apple a hand for the superior product.
