Hi, thanks for your message. there is a problem. certainly this windows 7 doesn't seem to have stereo mix in it. the trouble is, that when my previous machine showed signs of packing up, that also had windows 7 as its operating system. and with that machine i used soundforge for line-in and recording from radio on the internet. so, how could one lot of windows7 have stereo mix, and not another one. is total recorder a free system. it doesn't matter as i can afford to buy it if it is one for sale. brian. Hi, and god bless you all. i have got my line in working, although i am not quite certain how i got there. your were right, about the synstem tray. it is a quicker way of getting to the volumes. do you know about this. on my computer which is now virtually dead, and disconnected, i had soundforge. if i did, control r, as if to start a recording, and shift tab, eventually i reach something, that gave me five choices. five was lin in, and four was stereo mix. i then shift tabbed, until i reach close, and pressed enter. i then had to start again, with control r to prepare my recording. i can't do this on this soundforge on this machine, although it is the same version i was using on the other machine. brian. Hi, what happened is this. my son-in--law's computer died. the man he called in to look at it, said the mother board was caput. so, he went out and bought another computer. he then called the same man back. he connected some sort of gadget to the old computer, and coppied all the programmes onto it. he then plugged the gadget in to the new computer, and transferred the programmes over. it took about ten minutes. i have never heard of this before. brian. Hi, recently i have been playing books on a flash drive connected to my victor stream with the short lead. i noticed that i wasn't getting the usual playing time. i assumed that the battery was failing, so i bought a new battery. i found the same result with the new battery. i sent a message to humanware about this, asking whether the flash drive would take up more current. below is their answer. incidently, i have gone back to playing from the sd card, and am now getting the amout of playing time i was used to. brian. Brian It does depend on the drive itself but generally most flash drives will cause the stream to use more power when accessing them. Hi list, i am still having trouble with converting audible files in sound taxi. with sentences missing at the end of the conversions. this only happens occasionally.. i am in communication with sound taxi, and i am coming to the conclusion, that they don't want to help me, but are simply hoping i will get fed up, and go away. i have told them that there is nothing wrong with the source file, and they keep asking me to play it again in either media player or itune. also, they have now asked me twice, to send them both the source and partially converted files. i have asked them, three times, if i include my originally report, of the fault, how to send them such large files. so far, they haven't told me. have any of you, had trouble of this sort with conversions. if so, did you report it, and what happened. brian. Hi, i am sorry that ididn't answer our friend's question about wma files, but i couldn't help him, as i don't work in that formatt. my question now is, that i am still getting the end of books cut off, all though they are correct in the audible output. the last one, diana the huntress, by m. c. beaton, has two sentences missing at the end. i have done the obvious, that is, downloaded it again, and done the conversion again. the result is the same. the cut off is in the exact same place. anyone else having this trouble. brian. Hi clifford, thanks for your attempts to help me. i have tried that, but got nowhere. the url you gave us, the audible access one, is great. i can find books on it, and download the details of what the book is about. i haven't tried to by a book from there, as i don't know if it is possible, or if it would be put in to my library. yesterday i spoke on the phone with someone at audible. the conversation was carried out with difficulty. not only was his voice too quiet, but also his accent was difficult to follow. he kept on asking me if i was using a screen reader. i told him i was, and it had worked perfectly until a few days ago. up until then, when i went on the audible opening page, there were 128 links. one of these was my library. now every time i go there, the number of links changes. audible would prefer to blame my screen reader than there own software. six weeks ago, when i had a different problem, they wanted to blame my internet explorer. i take it, you can still reach your own library. if you have any more suggestions, i would gladly hear them. it is a pitty they started their improvements. . brian. Hi list, i am having trouble with my sound taxi programme. i raised the subject with the technical staff of sound taxi, about losing words at the end of converted files. they then suggested that i upgraded to the latest version, which i thought was odd, as i only just bought sound taxi, and thought it was the latest version i had. anyway, i attempted to install the new version, and when i got the continue button, which should have taken me to the internet so that the programme would be activated, i found this button was disabled. under instructions from sound taxi, i downloaded the latest version, and went through the whole process again. the continue button was still disabled. i then report ed this to sound taxi, and decided to put in my origianal version. i was surprise to find that it also got stuck at the continue button. it was as if the programme couldn't go to the internet. you will all have had messages such as, this programme is trying to acceess the internet, and asking if you will allow it. i have had no message with regard to sound taxi. i am now stuck, as i have no version of taxi i can use. have any of you had this problem with regard to installing sound taxi. or do any of you know how i can check if sound taxi is blocked. i have reported all this to sound taxi, and am still waiting an answer from them. if i was a member of their technical staff, i would try installing sound taxi on one of their computers, using my personal code. well i will leave it there. if anyone has anything useful to offer, i would be glad to hear from them. as for me, i wish i hadn't got in to this trying to install an upgrade. for your interest, the version i am now trying to install is: 4.4.3 brian. Hi kevin, i am looking at your message. at present, when i select a file to convert, and press the open tab, it starts to convert. i have had trouble with one book, which stops at about 78 per cent. i sent an e.mail to sound taxi support, and they suggested i tried playing the original in itune. also, they suggested i checked my drm license, what ever that is. i am now playing the original file on my victor stream. i converted part two without any problem. i will let you know how i get on.brian To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Hi, yes christopher, you are right about going back to the source. i now have it all worked out. i haven't got round to trying to burn a cd, one of the things sound taxi will do, but i will try it. i hope it will also burn dvds. thanks to all of you who helped me. incidentally, i found that if you have a book in two parts, you can highlight both parts, and sound taxi, will do both parts at the same time. thanks again, brian. hI, thanks for your message robert. i i think i must have chosen the wron convertion because i have ended up, with a file ending in .m4a i can play this, but i can't change its rates in cdex, which is the programme i usually use, because cdex won't recegnise it. any suggestions brian. Hi, this message is for kevin minor who uses this programme. kevin, i downloaded this programme with the help of my daughter, who fortunately can see. jus as well she was here, as we had quite a job to install it. now i am stuck. using my mouse pad, i found a button: select file to convert. i pressed that, and found my list of files, and promptly got stuck. waht should i have done after i found the book i wanted to convert, and was resting on it. wat ever i did, i could get no further. can you help kevin. brian. hi, it is a programme to turn text files in to mp3 files. i have it, but can't use it, as any files i produce, are so over recorded, that they are unplayable. i can't find out how to adjust the volume of the input file. brian. Hi gary, thanks for your message. i had a talk with humanware two weeks ago, asking whether there was any chance that we might be able in the future to read the kindle downloads on victorstream. but i was told, that amazon wouldn't agree. i downloaded four kindle books, and my son-in-law used some programme on the amazon site to convert them in to text files for me. the first one, searobber by kevin severin victor played well. but the other three were hopeless. every time there was an apostrophe in the middle of a word, such as you'll or an apostrophes at the end of a word, the victor made the file concerned in to utter garbage. as for specialty machines, i think we certainly do need them. commercial products are working more and more towards to touch screens and no keyboard. i am not at present going to get the new victorstream, as frankly, i am waiting for someone of us who is actually using one, to tell us how he is getting on. i certainly would like a better text to speech programme. i am told that acapela or whatever the one in the new victorstream for playing text files,is called, is good, but one can't speed it up. well, we have now probably taken this subject as far as we can. good wishes to all the list, brian. p s, is acapela a programme we can download to use separately. anyone know. brian. Hi joe, i want to convert audible files if it becomes necessary. at present the only way i can play them, is with my victorstream. i have been given to understand, that the new victrstream which has just come out, won't do this, as amazon, who i believe own audible, want people to play audible files with kindle. i got this information from a reliable source. brian. Hi, is anyone out there using a sonata. if so, can you tell me about it. for instance, will it play cds. also, i understand it has a u s b port. can it deal with folders. if you plug in a flash drive with two folders on it, can sonata deal with them, or must the files all be on the root of the flash drive. also, i understand can it can go on the internet to get radio stations. does it use wifi, or must it be plugged in to a modem. any other information which you think would be interesting, would be apppreciated. brian. hi list, i now have balabolka and have installed it. i have made a mp3 file, and it was so grossly overloaded as to volume, that it was impossible to play. i have gone to options, and found volume which is a pulldown. it appears to say, control alt p g up, and control alt p g down. anyway, i am obviously doing something wrong, as i can't effect the file in any way. is there some way of effecting the input file or what. any advice would be appreciated. brian. Hi list, some years ago, i installed text allowed on the computer i had then. i found it practically impossible to use, as i couldn't tab through the boxes. i have a more modern computer using windows seven. is anyone out there using test allowed, and how satisfactory do you find it. also, are there any other text to speech programmes. i can't remember now, whether text allowed is a free programme. if it is one for sale, i have no objection to paying for it, if it will do a reasonable job in conversion text to speech. i would welcome opinions and comments. brian. Hi adrian an john. thanks for your messages. i have now made a successful transfer to victor. as i said in my original message, i did allright the first day, but not the next day. the only difference is, that i turned my computer off, and rebooted. do this mean, the i will have to go through procedure for choosing victor each time i reboot, or should it hold. brian. Hi list, is anyone using a victor stream. i bought some books from audible lately, and transfered them to victor without any trouble. yesterday, i got another book from audible, but when i triy to transfer that, i get the following message. either your victor is not connected, or it is busy. check victor's configuration. well, it is connected, as i can read all its folders from my PC. i haven't as far as i know made any changes to cause this upset. humanware, suggested that, i took out the SD card, put it back in, and tried again. i have done that and have got the same result. they now suggest i reactivate victor, i don't know how to do that, and didn't do it in the first place, but just followed the procedure for transfering audible books. if anyone can help, it would be appreciated. i used to belong to a victor stream user list, but i seem to have lost the link, and don't know how to get back to the list. brian. hi list, i am using soundforge7. i may now spell some things wrongly, as i am going on audio. it says my mid sinc has gone to none, and i should adjust this in preferences. i went there, and found midi sinc number 5 of thirteen, but couldn't find out to see if it was set at none, or how to change it. can anyone help. brian. Hi kulvinder, yes they are playing at the right speed. i have been speaking to humanware on the phone, and they say that they are aware that there is a bug in the latest version of the software. also, they said that it is the tone control that one has to reduce to zero if one wants to change the file formatt. they also said, that i should transfer the files to the music folder and away from other books. what i am playing, is the foundation trilogy by asimov. it is an eight part play series. i have made the transfer, and now it is playing in stereo. someone asked, if this was off topic that we are discussing. this is pc audio, and the victor stream plays audio files, so i cannot see why messages about victor stream should not be acceptable on this list. any way, we have now gone as far as we can with this, especially as humanware say they are aware of the bug, and it will be rectified in the next upgrade. thanks to you who tried to help me. brian. Hi jamie, i have put the latest version of the software back in to my victor stream. this time i have used the north american version. you cannnot change the stereo files to anything with the speed settings. it still insists in playing them as mono files. brian. Hi kulvinder, we are at cross purposes. when i reverted to a previous version of the software, the files played in stereo. when you say that your player is alright, are you using the english or the northamerican software. i was using the english version, when i was getting the wrong results. brian. Hi list, i am back again. is there somewhere in nero seven, it ought to be in advance or something like it, where one can tell nero to make discs which will play on any machine. i have just burnt a disc, and it won't play on my victor classic. appart from that, i am sure that somewhere one can tell nero to make a simulation test. brian. Hi, can someone help me with this. i can't use the built in disc drive on my computer, as i can't open the disc tray. i have bought an external disc drive, which is plugged in to a u s b port. i can play discs using this drive, but when i try to burn a disc, nero tries to open the built-in drive, intending to ask me to put in a disc. can anyone tell me how to tell nero to use the external drive. any advice would be gratefully received. my computer thinks the external drive is letter g. brian.
