I PM'd you the other day. Have a Dot and adding two Echoes tomorrow.

Using Harmony Hub + Alexa to control the two Radios in one room but

Hi - longtime Squeezebox user here. I recently built an RPi 3
piCorePlayer with an Allo Boss DAC and RPi "official" display. Also
running LMS on this setup, having migrated LMS and music library off of
my Ubuntu server box.

Would love to have Alexa control over this setup. I have some linux
skills and development experience.

Thanks!

I've had Squeezeboxen pretty much since Slimdevices started. Bought my
first one directly from them and drove to their HQ to pick it up since
they were just down the road from me in Sunnyvale, :) Since then I've
added two more (Radio and a V3) and am using my new Clazio speaker as a
player. I much prefer to use my Echo and my Google Home to control my
devices and I'd love to be able to do the same with my SB players.

Hi deruesch

Right now, we're in Alpha test. There's a project portal that I invite
people to (teamwork.com) and all the documentation is there along with a
message board, ToDo lists etc.

When I move to Beta, I'll be removing the requirement to sign up for an
Amazon Developer account and leveraging the new(ish) Amazon Beta
infrastructure. As part of that process, I'll need to write the release
documentation and this will be part of the beta test as well.

Do bear with me. We have one remaining major piece of functionality to
build and test as part of Alpha and then we'll be v1.0 feature complete
and ready to move to beta. Things have slowed down for me recently
simply de to a lack of spare time but I'm hoping to blitz this the week
after next so stay tuned!

If you haven't already, PM me an e-mail address and I'll get in touch
(and post on this thread) when I'm ready for Beta testers.

Hi, will add SqueezeMe, though Squeezebox might not work as Amazon
guidelines indicate that you canot re-use the invocation name in slots.

For alpha testing, you need a developer account. Once we get to beta
testing, this will change as we'll use the skill egta test environment.

Hi Ronluna

Can you PM me here with your amazon developer e-mail please. I can then
check if you're on the invite list and resend accordingly.

People can go ahead and set up Hab-Tunes accounts but unless I enable
the skill on your amazon developer account and send you an invite to the
teamwork portal, there's not much you can do!

Hi Dirk

You should have received an email invite to the Teamwork.com portal for
the project? If not, check your spam folder.

Once you have access to teamwork, access the 'Alexa LMS Skill' project
from the dashboard and then click on the 'notebooks' tab. There you'll
find the 'setting up for testing' document which explains everything.

In summary you'll need;
-To enable the skill on your Amazon developer account
-Create a Hab-Tunes.com account
-Install the plug-in for your LMS

Details on all of the above are in the set up document.

I've issued tester invites to some people who've requested same over the
past few weeks. If you think you should have an invite and have not,
check your spam folder and then PM me here.

I'm closing testing for new requests for the moment until we get to Beta

community which is amazing!

Well, the focus is on getting Hab-Tunes for Alexa v1 out but once that's
done, it should be -relatively- straightforward to tweak it to work with
Google Home. Looks like we'll be getting the hardware here in Europe
later this year so I'll certainly be lining one up.

Most likely a removed feature in Perl 5.24:

Author needs to de-reference the scalar himself (most likely just

Here's a new video demo showing some of the recent features such as
audio volume reduction while Alexa is listening, the ability to
configure extended listening & re-prompts, list and status reports and
some other stuff.

Apologies for the music selection - it's the only playlist I have in my
test LMS, a timely reminder of when the project started :eek::eek:

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ANNOUNCE: Alexa voice control (development thread)

2017-05-19 Thread meep

New release today with the changes listed below.

For those recently volunteered to test, assuming this turns out to be
stable enough, I'll be sending out your invites soon, probably tomorrow.

Version 0.2.0.3 (19th May 2017)

[*=left]Fixed an issue with selected device not saving correctly
  (skill)
[*=left]Expanded status intent to include a lot more permutations
  (skill)
  [*=left]Expanded player name list (skill)
[*=left]Added option to contribute player names to project (plugin /
  skill / db)
[*=left]Changed use MQTT param initialisation to default to On, making
  it the default mode (plugin)
[*=left]Set currently nominated player as selected if nothing
  currently selected (plugin)
[*=left]Caught cases where squeezebox is muted and reported
accordingly in list and status commands (skill)
[*=left]Added rudimentary volume reduction when in extended listening
  mode (skill/plugin)
[*=left]Fixed a bug preventing DE users selecting devices by number
  (skill)
  [*=left]Updated alexa-verifier from v0.2.0 to v0.3.6 to benefit from
  utf improvements (skill)
[*=left]Fixed a bug with umlauts in device names causing verification
  errors (skill)
[*=left]Tweaked response and re-prompt language (skill)
[*=left]Added missing responses to translations file (skill)
  [*=left]Bumped the version (plugin)

Known issues:

[*=left]_All__playback devices will be volume reduced to 10% during
extended listening. It's a blunt instrument to test the overall
efficacy of this solution to see if we can minimise false commands
resulting from Alexa responding to song lyrics.
[*=left]In extended listening mode, volume change commands may not
work as anticipated due to volume levelling
[*=left]List and Status responses may not return the correct player
volume settings in extended listening mode.
[*=left]Users should respond to Alexa prompts with known commands
only. Polite 'yes' and 'no' are not yet supported.
[*=left]If the server is inaccessible, the plugin log file fills
  quickly.
[*=left]Still a lot of translations missing for our DE users

We're currently in the throes of testing v0.2.0.2 which still has some
stability issues. Once I get that sorted, I'll extend invites to the

Hi

if you want to participate in the alpha tests, you need to sign up for
an Amazon developer account and pm me the email address you used.

for the forthcoming beta phase, I'll likely use the new Amazon skill
beta test facility so the developer account won't be required.

in either case, you'll need a free hab-tunes.com account as well.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ANNOUNCE: Alexa voice control (development thread)

2017-04-26 Thread meep

For all the thread watchers, we moved to Alpha last week and quickly
went through 5x point versions as new testers came on board and found
various issues on various LMS versions. The more testing we do, the more
inclined I am to support newer LMS versions only but final decision on
that remains open.

Right now, I'm working towards Alpha version 0.2 which will consolidate
all the fixes from the first Alpha cycle and start introducing new
functions and commands. (a new detailed status command is already done
as is the ability to power on and power off devices). There are a couple
of outlying issues to be addressed and one emerging issue is some
confusion on Alexa's behalf as the command set grows - she gets mixed up
quite easily so I'll need to carefully revisit the speech commands to
minimise possible false interactions.

Hi

You don't -need- SSL for this to work. The plugin defaults to using
https for connecting to and sending data back to the cloud-based skill.
If you don't have SSL support in your LMS, the plugin will fall back to
http. It will still work, it's just that your data is sent 'in the
clear'

One of the testers posted this in the project portal. It may work for
you as well...

Hi Muntos

It should work for you. Provided that the Squeezelite shows up in the
LMS as a player, you'll be able to control it with the Alexa skill. I
use softsqueeze in testing along with a range of hardware devices and it
works perfectly.

If you want to sign up for Alpha testing, set up an Amazon developer
account and PM me the email address you used. It is still somewhat
technical and there's always the risk of ruining your LMS set up so I
understand why people might not want to get involved just yet but if you
have a backup and are comfortable configuring your LMS, you should be
fine.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ANNOUNCE: Alexa voice control (development thread)

2017-04-14 Thread meep

This weekend I hope to get v0.1.6 released to testers. This is a
significant step up as it now includes both an http proxy and MQTT as
options for communications between the skill and the LMS plugin. I've
alos set up a Repo for the plugin meaning installation and updating is
less command line and more GUI. With this in place, the plugin is more
or less feature complete and future work will be focused on bug fixes
and optimisations.

That being the case, I'm pleased to announce that this release marks the
commencement of the Alpha test phase of the project. Still a long way to
go and still the potential to completely bork your LMS but a milestone
nevertheless.

On the skill side, I've added support for volume control to the existing
play/pause commands. The focus on the Alpha phase will be the expansion
of the command set to cover a well-rounded sub-set of LMS / Device
functionality. (@nickb has kindly agreed to the proposal that this skill
and his excellent' DIY Secure Integration '
benefit from sharing a common core command set thus allowing user try
out both and feel familiar in each.) Thus that set of commands (with
some extensions) will be the focus of development over the next few
releases. Once they are implemented, we'll move on to Beta.

With this release, I'm also widening the tester base. There have been
several expressions of interest and offers of help over the past few
weeks and I'll be contacting those users this weekend and inviting them
in to the test portal. (If you don't get an invite by Sunday and think
you should have, I've missed you somehow so please just PM me again with
the email you used to sign up to the Amazon Alexa Developer portal.)

An update for thread followers

v0.1.5 was made available to testers today. The change list is pasted
below but the main focus of this release is the addition of MQTT
communications between the skill and plugin. This should allow the
reliance on open ports to be removed from the plugin.

Developer testing has been promising and, assuming the wider test goes
well, I would hope to expand the available functionality in the next
version, label it Alpha and open the test process to some new users who
have expressed interest here.

The full v0.1.5 change list;

- Added 'Use MQTT' selector to settings page (plugin)
- Implemented MQTT for command initialisation between skill and plugin
  (skill/plugin)
- Misc. DB updates to accommodate MQTT (db)
- Adjusted dynamicIP check interval (plugin)
- Removed reporting user password in clear in debug (plugin)
- Improved internal error logging & reporting (skill)
- Added support for STOP and PLAY commands (skill)
- Improved response time of play/pause/resume/stop intents (skill)
- Caused PAUSE and RESUME commands to behave correctly (skill)
- Tweak to list devices phrasing (skill)
- Misc. updates to message translations (skill)
- Misc. updates to status messages (plugin)
- Confirmed functionality in OSX (LMS 7.9)
- Bumped the version (plugin)

i think that would be a challenging setup for voice control.

Typically, these skills support commands like play (track) by (artist)
from (album), or some variation thereof. If your artist and track names
are standard, you might get away with just those parameters but if you
have multiple shows by the same artist, chances are that there would be
a number of identical search results, in which case, the skill should
list the available albums. Those album names would be tricky to follow
when rendered by Alexa and , I guess, tricky to say.

i suggest you try out the skill when it's closer to being ready and see
how it works for you. Then we can think about some solutions.

Hi

thanks for the message. I haven't been so good at updating here but rest
assured, work is progressing. I tend to post updates on the project
website rather than here so be sure to check out has-tunes.commas
well.mtwompages to refresh!

there's been a lot more work than I anticipated in getting the basics of
this skill in place and as my development time is limited to free time,
progress can sometimes feel glacial. However, the beginning is almost
done and I can see into the part where I add the actual commands to
allow people use this thing.

ive also set myself a deadline of getting the skill published to meet
the entry criteria for the current skill competition so it's skates on!

Hi Girth

To call the current stage beta is a tad optimistic, though excellent
progress is being made. Currently, there are around 30 testers signed up
through this thread and who've received invites to a teamwork project
portal. That's where the plugin file is distributed and feedback
discussions take place.I've stopped inviting new testers for the moment
as this group now has a good feel for how to set up and run the test
code and report issues etc. If I start giving more people access now,
I'll spend a good deal of my time dealing with set-up and other teething
issues rather than concentrating on coding.

However, soon enough I will need a new cohort of testers to take a fresh
look when I have the base infrastructure up and running. Below I've
posted the current skeleton development release plan. I would expect to
be inviting more users in at version 0.2. If you'd like access at that
stage and have some time to help test, please send me a PM with the
email address you use for your Amazon account and I'll invite you when

Many thanks for that link.

I actually ended up re-writing the auth sections in PHP and it worked
first time.

Amazon eventually got back to me and I'm working with them to figure out
why it works in PHP but not in Node-Red on the same server.

Hi meep,

I have no idea about your code, but I just followed this 'wiki page'
(https://wiki.fhem.de/wiki/Alexa-Fhem) to link my FHEM home automation
system to Alexa using OAuth, so I thought I'd throw this in here in case
you're trying something similar (it's in German, but the Amazon forms
look the same..).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ANNOUNCE: Alexa voice control (development thread)

2017-02-05 Thread meep

A quick update for thread watchers...

I'v made a lot of progress on version 0.1.4 but am now stalled in
implementing account linking between the skill and user accounts. I've
posted details of the issue on amazon forums but have had next to zero
support there;

https://forums.developer.amazon.com/questions/56675/account-linking-implicit-grant-failing-with-unable.html

I've also submitted a ticket but no response.

Until I get this resolved, I'm a bit stuck as I have a number of code
areas that need to be updated once this is working.

There may be something VERY obvious I'm missing. If there's someone on
here with experience in skill dev. and account linking or even oAuth,
I'd be happy to provide access to my code for some fresh eyes.

I'll post an update once this hurdle has been crossed.

Already tried to control the Squeezeboxes with Homeassistant and Philips

I would like to add infos about your project to Max2Play, once it is

Thanks for all the offers of help over the past little while.

I haven't been responding as its been busy with work etc.

we actually have about 30 people signed up as testers at the Moment,
with maybe half of those active. I'm in the middle of a fairly
significant update that really locks down security and hopefully gets
around the requirement to open a port etc. Once I have the base platform
working well, I'll be adding in extra commands.

what I'd like to do is stick with the current testers for the next
couple of versions. They know how to set up these early code versions
and know what to look for and how to fix shortcomings.

if I introduce more new people now, a lot of my time will be spent
handholding through set up etc. Rather than focus on development.
However, it will be critical to have some new people come on board in a
few weeks as I'll need fresh eyes as the project nears completion and
I'll need people to spot issues that the rest of us have just gotten
used to. Makes sense?

alexa supports us English, U.K. English and German. I have set up the
skill for all 3 languages and one of the testers is helping with German
translations so this will be an area that needs testing as well soon.

Hi, this is a fascinating project!
I can't wait to see the first release :-)

Have you tried testing on LMS running in a docker environment?
I'm running LMS Version: 7.9.0 - 1484464959 in Docker on a QNAP NAS.
I have a few Duets, Classics and several ChromeCast (both the HDMI as
well as the Audio version) connected using Philippes Cast Bridge, and it
is a superb setup. I alos have Xsqueeze running in Kodi 16 on another
NAS also connected to LMS.

I guess the best part of it - and here's why I decided to mention it -
is for testing purpose, using docker allows you to have many instances
installed in "parallell", and if one crashes, it will never influence
the others, and you will be up'n'running again by the click of a
button.

I don't mind testing this (but I have to arrange a date with Alexa
first)

snoopy86 wrote:

I agree it's probably the best we've got. Plus, it has the advantage of
being essentially one word but can be rendered as two to meet the
requirements.

However, possible reasons for change are.

1. Some testers report Alexa is not picking it up correctly when spoken
2. Some testers report that it's a little clunky to say (I tend to
agree)
3. It conflicts with some users device naming which includes the word
'squeezebox'
4. There's still doubt over whether it will be acceptable as an
invocation word when we get to certification

I'm keeping an open mind on this and really value community input.

I had another look at the skill guidelines last night and from the
certification checklist, I noted that a skill must support multiple
forms of syntax on skill invocation. So, in our case, the following are
mandated to work;

Alexa, ask/tell to
OR
Alexa, command on/with

In our case, where 'Kitchen' is the squeezebox device name, this would
result in;

> 'Alexa, ask Squeeze Box to play Kitchen'
OR
> 'Alexa, play Kitchen with Squeeze Box'

Now, I need to do more testing but this later formation -might -work
with these kinds of syntax;

>
> 'Alexa, play on Kitchen Squeeze Box'
> 'Alexa, play on Squeeze Box Kitchen'

This is quite natural and easy to say and, if it works, would likely be
the recommended way of doing things. Of course, it would still be
recommended to remove the word 'squeezebox' from device names ,
otherwise the most accurate phrasing would need to be;

>
> 'Alexa, play on Squeeze Box squeezebox Kitchen'

where 'Squeeze Box' is the required skill name and 'squeezebox' is part
of the device name. Not confusing at all!!!
