Yeah, it seems that Seamonkey lost one or more of your mail passwords, or perhaps . That would account for it popping up requests for the password -- every time it attempts to connect to the mail server and fails. So, let's try a couple things. First, it's possible that there is a corrupted saved password keeping you from saving it anew. So we will attempt to get rid of that old, damaged password. Open Tools/Data Manager On the left pane, look for gmail.com. Click to select it. On the right pane, select the passwords tab. Find the lines related to the troublesome account. Select them and click remove to delete them (there are probably two of them for each account: one for the POP server, and another for the SMTP server). Close Seamonkey, wait a few seconds to let it close completely, and reopen it. Now when downloading mail for this account. Seamonkey will prompt you for the correct password; this is normal. But, hopefully, now you should be able to tick the save password option and make it stick. Note that it will prompt you again the first time you send a message through that account; this could happen immediately, if you happen to have messages queued for sending. This is also normal, use that save password checkbox again. With a little bit of luck, Seamonkey should be accessing your mail accounts normally from now on. I have been lost. Am I connected again? walter. Hallelujah! I am slowly getting my e-mail and browsers to work again. I completely dumped SM and reloaded and all my addresses and books marks were gone. MY AD. I did look at the Data Manager and did what was suggested but there was no change so I took the above route and now I am in the process of reconstructing my SM account. Help your old grandfather?
I need expert help. I posted earlier with my problems concerning the loss of my passwords. Things are worse than when I posted earlier. I am now asked, right up front, to enter password for google. It doesn't seem to matter whether I chose to enter it or ignore it, life goes on. Equipment: HP desktop, Pavilion NY705AA-ABA p6204y, Windows 7, Home Premium, all additions up to date. Sea Monkey 2.8, Avast free, Zone Alarm free, Windows Defender-up to date. My future plan/proposal: Uninstall SM entirely Delete Profile (if I can find it) Delete any other SM files (completely obliterate SM) Select a new browser, install, configure. Suggestions please. I am leaning toward Safari and Google Chrome. I have looked at Opera but did not like it. Import bookmarks but not passwords. Establish two e-mail accounts. They will be the ones from my ISP and one from gmail. I realize I will have to build password file from scratch but I can live with that. Now: Is this plan feasible/doable/advisable? I have about 50 years experience around computers (1st generation, 1960 IBM RAMAC - 2012 Windows 7) but I have been left behind and overwhelmed by changes in technology since my retirement in 1984. My main goal is to get rid of the requirement for entering username and/or passwords every time I turn around and to simplify my use and the enjoyment of using my computer. Any advise, encouragement, help or criticisms respectfully considered. Walter P.S. I have run a scan with Avast and no problems were detected. w ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

Things are worse than when I posted earlier. I am now asked, right up front, to enter password for google. It doesn't seem to matter whether I chose to enter it or ignore it, life goes on. Walter, I really am not sure I understand what have happened here. Do you mean ALL sites keep asking you for passwords? Even the ones where you DIDN'T have an account? That's a very odd symptom. I mean, yeah, you can log on to Google, but it usually doesn't prompt you for a password right at the bat, unless you are accessing one of the services (like Gmail) that don't work without an account. MCbastos: My ISP AND gmail uses pop.gmail.com for receiving, smtp.gmail.com for sending. Somehow, I had the two separated with separate passwords but the pop and smtp the same. Now I have only one of them working, using the pw for gmail. Let's try to isolate it -- is it a profile corruption issue, an add-in issue or a problem in Seamonkey itself? I suspect it is a profile error but I am not sure. 1. Try running Seamonkey in Safe Mode. If the problem disappears, it's likely to be an add-on issue. Try re-enabling your add-ons one at a time until you find the culprit. I tried running SM in a safe mode and it wouldn't do anything correctly. 2. Try creating a new, blank profile. If you can browser with no problems, then it's a profile corruption issue. It's possible to rescue most of your data from the old profile, but it takes a bit of work. That will be my next try. By blank, you mean with no parameters? Just let SM fill in the blanks? 3. Maybe the Seamonkey program files got themselves corrupted. Uninstall SM, check that the c:\program files (x86)\Seamonkey got deleted, then reinstall Seamonkey. I will try this after I try # 2 and that doesn't work. (said the pessimist) Equipment: HP desktop, Pavilion NY705AA-ABA p6204y, Windows 7, Home Premium, all additions up to date. Sea Monkey 2.8, Avast free, Zone Alarm free, Windows Defender-up to date. Yes, that's an impressive set of protective software. But even the best antivirus/antimalware products fail now and then. The possibility of a malware infection must not be discarded. I might mention here in passing that even Microsoft suggests disabling Windows Defender if you have another program with similar features (like Avast), to avoid the performance penalty. I can put up with a little performance penalty at this point but will keep this in mind. I am grateful for your suggestions and please stay with me as long as it is convenient for you. I understand there is a point of diminishing results in this kind of situation. If you uninstall it I would guess you would be back to normal. Have you started there? Once that works probably try to find the program you used before since you were able to get that to work. Or use the show passwords function of SM and manually write them down (if there are not too many) since it can only show one at a time now. I did uninstall Last Pass after I finally found it under the Control Panel. It never showed up under Revo uninstaller or CCleaner. Actually, I don't know if it ever uninstalled though the icon did disappear from the Desktop. Could it be hiding somewhere and I don't know it? Since then I have added more passwords and changed some. OK, I will run that program again, says I. Not so easy, what was name of it and where did I get it? Never fear, Google knows. Thing is, Google knows too much so I don't know which program/plugin I used. One of the Google finds was LastPass, the so-touted answer to all my questions and needs. OK, load and run. Somewhere in the options there must be a way to do what I need but I can't find it. I try this-n-that and end up with a big mess with SM mail and newsgroups asking for a password every time I try to access either one. I check the settings for e-mail and newsgroups and do not find any obvious problems. Use workaround by entering passwords to get to mail and newsgroups. Even now, I get a request about every 10 minutes asking for a password for news server access. No matter what I enter, (or nothing,) it is accepted and things go on. Two e-mail accounts, xxx@localtvserver and xxx@gmail Two newsgroup accts, m.s.seamonkey and news.eternal-september.org I know the above is rather long and possibly very confusing but I need help and advice, thanking all in advance. Walter. Go to: http://the-edmeister.com/firefox_info/articles/List_Firefox-3_Passwords.htm Save the page. Open the saved page in your browser. It works with SM 2.8 That is it! Now my problem is that there are only 4 domains there with their passwords. What did I do to lose the rest of them? David, I will try your suggestion later. Top-posting is when you put your reply above the quoted text, rather than below. Rest assured, top-posting vs bottom-posting is *not policed* in here. Message content is much more important than message format. So long as your messages are polite, respectful, helpful, and on topic, it doesn't matter if it is top-posted, if nothing is trimmed, or if it's in HTML. The positive side is that in 2.1 versions, SeaMonkey doen't crash when Flash crashes, so you'll only get a sad face plugins symbol on the page because the Flash plugin crashed, but the browser will still run. You can try 2.1 Beta 2 if you dare to see that and confine the crash to the plugin itself. Robert Kaiser Robert, Thanks for the additional information. I think I will wait for the final version of 2.1 and live with the crashes. Bug # 636797 reported. You should include the crash report information/links in that and also include the weather url that you were viewing when it kept crashing. However, see Roberts info that F signatures are Flash related. So you might check to see if you have the latest flash version perhaps try clearing your cache (memory disk) to see if that has any effect. What flash version do you have installed? You can check in 'about:plugins' and also: http://flash.com Flash is current, weather URL is part of information included in crash report. At this point, I will just live with it and hope that next SM update will have found and fixed it. A big thanks for all the help and suggestions. Everything else should (as far as I know) be preserved, but 2.1 also adds the possibility to use tags on bookmarks, use livemarks, saved bookmarks searches, and a few other things (which are easier to do with the database model). Hi ! Could you tell me what a groupmark is ? I see only bookmark, folder and separator when managing bookmarks. I remember word marks and group marks on the old IBM 1401 and 1410. Walter, I use the following settings, with the only drawback being that all messages originating from Google Groups (also where 99% of group spam originates from) will be filtered out. 1) In the main SM e-mail window, click on Tools | Message Filters 2) Under the Filters for: drop-down box, scroll down to what you've named the server for Mozilla newsgroups (mine is labelled SeaMonkey Newsgroups), slide right and click on choose this newsserver 3) If you don't have a filter set up yet, you'll need to create one using the New button. (I call mine Global Killfile). Once in the Filter Rules dialog box, in the first drop-down field, click on Customize at the bottom. In the Customize Header dialog box, type in Organization in the field under New message header:, then click the Add button, then the OK button. 4) The middle field of the three should be set to contains 5) In the third field next to the + button, type groups.google.com (without quotes, of course), then click on Delete Message in the drop-down box under Perform these actions: 6) Make sure the radio button for Match any of the following is ticked, and the Apply filter when: setting is Checking Mail or Manually Run. Click the OK button of the Filter Rules dialog box to finalize your settings. Exit the Message Filters dialog box using the close X button. This will effectively filter all the spam messages the newsgroups have currently been receiving, with the only drawback, as I stated above, of also deleting all posts originating from Google Groups. However, I haven't observed this to be detrimental to message traffic, but YMMV. Purrs -- Thanks, D. K. Thanks for all the comments. You have verified what I suspected all along. I had a copy of Front Page for a while and used it a couple of times but found very soon that it inserted so much unnecessary coding that it was not something I wanted to use. I am a self-taught webmaster, having learned most of what I know about HTML from books and looking at the coding of other programs before all these do it for you, fill in the blanks helpers came out. Re: file reading assignment?
Well, in WinXP it's under C:\WINNT\Fonts\ (too obvious?), but if the problem is that SM is trying to read a file it should refer to a different program, fixing a putative font issue won't help. As Walter said earlier, it should be calling TablEdit, not trying to open the file itself. After a good deal of experimentation and analyzing I have come to the conclusion that: indeed SM calls TE which reads the file but it does not know where the font is to translate the data correctly, thus does the best it can to display the data it can, using regular font, i. e. the text in the file. I have copied the TE font to the TE program file(s) but so far have not found the correct one. The TE fonts are in the Windows font file so that is not the problem. Strangely, when I download .tef files from other sites, TE works OK. This leads me to believe there is something lost in translation to/from the http://everythingdulcimer.com/index.php?option=com_contentview=articleid=178Itemid=142 files. This continues to be a challenging situation and I appreciate all the help and suggestions from other interested people. Should I ever find a solution, I will try to remember to post it here. w. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

I have tried the setting in preferences/helper applications but it makes no difference. w. sm 1.1.18 win xp, sp3 I am assumong that it not behaves as Firefox does. You can edit existing entries, but you cannot add them. Rather, the first time an unknown file type is encountered, you make a selection which is added to the list. Do I understand that you have tried to edit an existing entry, but the setting doesn't stick? If so, try setting the file type in question to always ask, then navigate to such a file type and set it that way. Lee To all who posted a reply to my query: Please read again my original post, quoted above. Example: When I click on a link to a .pdf file, SM knows it is a .pdf file and calls Adobe Reader to read the file. I want SM to recognize a .tef file and call tabledit to read the file. Where is the setting to do this? It is not in edit/preferences/helper applications as I have the .tef files identified there as: application/tef and file type details as: open these files with tabledit.exe This is as clear as I can describe the problem. All suggestions welcome. Walter. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

Excuse me for jumping in in the middle of this but wouldn't this be an Open With setting in Windows to control what app to open it with and that SeaMonkey would pick up the queuing from there as to what to open it with or what options to give you? Big Bill, I think you have maybe come up on the solution. To get back to my original question, where is this setting, (in this case, Windows)? I have looked under system on the control panel but cannot find it there. Where else can I look? I remember seeing this option from time to time but I cannot find it now. The third option down is Open With click it and click it again in the next window then select the correct program to open it with and also check the box on the lower part of this window marked something like Use this Program to Open This File All of the Time Bill No luck there. I am beginning to think the setup I have is not recognizing the font file it requires. I have tried the setting in preferences/helper applications but it makes no difference. See also Edit | Preferences | Advanced | System... If that doesn't help, report back with details of what's happening and when and one of the experts will jump in and help. I am trying to read a .tef file created by TablEdit, a program which creates tablature for musical instruments. There is a special font (tef265.ttf) Which this program uses. It is in my font file. When I click on a .tef file (http://everythingdulcimer.com/tab/Be_thou_my_vision_DAD.tef) instead of the notes and tab numbers, question marks are in those positions. If I do a shift/click then SeaMonkey file download manager kicks in and then I can click on launch file and the file is displayed correctly with notes and tab numbers and I can play the song and make adds/changes. This problem has occurred in the past two months whereby it had worked for several years before. I believe I have made a change somewhere but I cannot find it. Under Preferences/helper applications I have added application/tef and under file type details I have added open these files with tabledit.exe This makes no difference.
