ComPost: Price warning

2004-03-08 Thread Zytech online store

As we mentioned last time, expect to see rising prices with hard
drives. Over the last week our buy price on 120GB drives increased over
15%.

Whilst some prices have already begun to increase we've held large
stocks of 120 and 250GB drives so we are holding prices on these units
while our original stock holds. As we replenish stock, we will in turn
increase prices. Sorry but there are no time guarantees on this.

This week's standouts are -
40GB FireStar bus-powered FW drive $299 !!
120GB FireCube FireWire drive $275
250GB FireCube FW800/400 USB 2.0 drive $579

CommPost: 50% off

2004-02-24 Thread Zytech online store

At this stage we've contained hard drive pricing but the 3-4% drop in
the Aussie dollar already has drive vendors scrambling to lift prices.

WD has already raised drive pricing across the board, brought on by
demand outstripping supply of their drives so expect to see all
drive pricing increase next week as we replenish stock. In the meantime
you can still get a $375 FireCube FW drive -
http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGYCategory_Code=ZYFC

If you buy either a Bluetooth headset $99

or a USB 2.0 3.5 drive enclosure
http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PRODProduct_Code=ZYT079
this week, you'll be offered a Microsoft optical wheel mouse at a 50%

We've just dropped our $128MB Flash Drive to $89 and we have more stock
due in from Taiwan of the SanDisk USB 2.0 Flash Drive for $129 -

CommPost: Virus Barrier ... free Flash Drive

2004-02-17 Thread Zytech online store

There's all new pricing on our hard drives today including the
following -
120GB 2MB cache $275
120GB 8MB cache $289
160GB 2MB cache $317
250GB 8MB cache $516
http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGYCategory_Code=ZYFC

40GB FireStar 2.5 $342
60GB FireStar 2.5 FW/USB2 7200 RPM 8MB cache $569
80GB FireStar 2.5 FW/USB2 8MB cache $579
http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGYCategory_Code=ZYFS

This week we are also debuting VirusBarrier which we consider to be the
premiere Mac virus software. Macnn says this about VirusBarrier -

VirusBarrier is without question the most ambitious attempt to date
at creating a complete anti-virus solution that's unobtrusive and
complete, which in essence is what every utility of this kind should
be. While some users may question the need for a robust anti-virus
solution given the limited number of viruses on the Mac, for those who
don't VirusBarrier offers piece of mind in an attractive package.

VirusBarrier is $129 and you can order it or read more about it at -
http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGYCategory_Code=SOFT

Be one of the first 5 mail list readers to buy VirusBarrier AND any
other item from our online store and we'll include a free 32MB Flash
Drive (approx value $40). If you miss out on being one of the first 5,
we'll provide a FREE flashing mobile phone holder (normally $18.99).

DiskWarrior 3.01 has finally landed in Australia and we are shipping
all our backorders this week apologies for the wait.

Another nifty piece of software is MacDrive 5 for PC users. If you'd
like to use a Mac formatted drive on your PC (without partitioning or
reformatting) you can download a free trial of MacDrive 5 -
http://www.media4.com/downloads/trial/md/
This is the SUPERIOR solution if you are sharing your drives (or any
other media) cross platform.

For Mac OS X users here's a handy Classic startup optimisation courtesy
of Robin Belford to try out -

Whilst running OS X, simply drag everything from your OS 9 Control
Panels to the Control Panels Disabled folder. Do the same for
Extensions. Start Classic and let it install the necessary files when
it asks for them. OS 9 will only load those Extensions it needs and
startup time for Classic will be reduced.

If you've recently bought Microsoft Office X you may be entitled to a
$9.95 upgrade to MS Office 2004. You can get all the info and
applications at -
http://www.microsoft.com/australia/office/mac/technologyguarantee.asp

and we still have genuine Microsoft optical wheel mice at $29.
Delivery on these units is $8.50 (total), whether you buy 1 or 50 -

CommPost: drive maintenance

2004-02-02 Thread Zytech online store

If you'd like to build an external CD/DVD burner we have both our
FireWire and combo FW/USB 2.0 enclosures on runout for $89.95 and
$99.95 respectively at our Clearance Centre -
http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGYCategory_Code=CLEAR

This month we''ve split our popular Bluetooth adapters by introducing a
cheaper ($49) 20 metre range adapter whilst the 100m unit continues at
$59 -
http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGYCategory_Code=BLUE

We have launched a new 160GB FireCube hard drive at just $339 and our
mainstay 120GB drive is $287 -
http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGYCategory_Code=ZYFC

At the same time, we are updating our Mac disk maintenance
recommendations as follows -

Whilst previously we've recommended Disk Utility combined with other
utils such as Onyx, Mac Janitor and System Optimiser there is a nifty
little utility available called Yasu that combines all of the following
- daily/weekly/monthly cron tasks, clearing of system/user/browser
caches. repairs permissions and updates prebindings.
When it is finished carrying out these tasks it will restart your machine.

The interface is very simple, and yes we still like those pretty ones
like Onyx, but if you are chasing the easiest way to keep your drive in
shape then this is it.

After running Yasu, restart from another drive or CD and run
DiskWarrior over the target drive. When this has finished, set the
target drive as your startup disk and you can go back to work with your
hard drive in tip-top condition.
So very simply our advice is . run Yasu followed by DiskWarrior.

DiskWarrior 3.01 is out and we will be shipping the new version
starting next week. Though (supposedly) only an update for 10.3
compatibility, my first impressions are that it is actually much faster
than before. If you don't have the update you can grab it from -

DiskWarrior is $129 to buy -

CommPost: 1TB drive, 512MB RAM $139.90

2004-01-19 Thread Zytech online store

We have a number of new products this week as well as new clearance
specials -

First up, we are launching our 1TB (1000GB) hard drive, not cheap at
$2199 but then it is BIG!
http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGYCategory_Code=LAC

RAM pricing for newer chips has fallen over the past couple of weeks
whilst the US Grand Jury investigates price fixing amongst the leading
fabricators. Micron Exec, Alfred Censullo, has already agreed to plead
guilty for obstructing their investigations and Micron are busy doing a
deal to give them amnesty for spilling the beans on the other companies
involved. You can take a look at this little scandal on most of the
major business and IT news pages or there's a pretty straightforward
summary at -
http://www.spacedaily.com/2003/031217224135.hk20rqsn.html

Seems like a good enough reason to offer a couple of RAM specials -
512MB G5 1.6GHz, G4 1/1.25GHz $139.90
256MB G4 867DP $71

We have 256MB SanDisk Cruzer (Flash Drives) arriving this week - price
is just $129
http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGYCategory_Code=FLASHD

Bluetooth products have been rushing out the door all of January -
seems like lots of people bought Bluetooth phones for Christmas. New
and neat Bluetooth products include laser pointers ($19) for Sony
Ericsson phones plus we now have 100 metre USB Bluetooth adapters at
$59 -

At the clearance centre there's -
80GB hard drives $119
6-in-1 USB 2.0 card readers $39.90
5.25 FireWire enclosures $99.90
http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGYCategory_Code=CLEAR

and some new FireWire drive pricing -
120GB (2MB cache) $287
160GB (8MB cache) $365
200GB (FW800 combo, 8MB) $491
250GB (FW800 combo, 8MB) $644

From Norm Leslie (Scotland via Canada which still didn't do him any

good in the World Cup) an interesting piece on credit card fraud -

We all receive emails all the time regarding one scam or another; but
last week I [one of Norm's fiends in Canada] REALLY DID get scammed!
Both VISA and MasterCard told me that this scam is currently being
worked throughout theMidwest, with some variance as to the product or
amount, and if you are called, just hang up.

My husband was called on Wednesday from VISA and I was called in
Thursday from MasterCard. It worked like this: Person calling says,
This is Carl Patterson (any name) and I'm calling from the Security
and Fraud department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460. Your card has
been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to
verify. This would be on your VISA card issued by 5/3 bank. Did you
purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a marketing
company based inArizona?

When you say No.The caller continues with, Then we will be issuing
a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and
the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase
pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit
will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?

You say, Yes. The caller continues . . . I will be starting a fraud
investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 800
number listed on your card 1-800-VISA and ask for Security. you will
need to refer to this Control _. Then gives you a 6 digit number. Do
you need me to read it again? Caller then says he needs to verify you
are in possession of your card. Turn the card over. There are 7
numbers; first 4 are 1234 (whatever) the next 3 are the security
numbers that verify you are in possession of the card. These are the
numbers you use to make internet purchases to prove you have the card.
Read me the 3 numbers. Then he says That is correct. I just needed to
verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still
have your card. Do you have any other questions? Don't hesitate to call
back if you do.

You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the
card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back
within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA
security dept. told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new
purchase of $497.99 WAS put on our card.

Long story made short . . we made a real fraud report and closed the
VISA card and they are reissuing as a new number. What the scam wants
is the 3 digit number and that once the charge goes through, they keep
charging every few days. By the time you get your statement, you think
the credit is coming, and then its harder to actually file a fraud
report. The real VISA reinforced that they will never ask for anything
on the card (they already know).

What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from
Jason Richardson of MasterCard with a word for word repeat of the
VISA Scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up. We filed a
police report (as

The Panther FireWire issue:

If you haven't seen our note on this already please read on -

At this stage it looks like the problem only exists with some of the
earlier Oxford 922 chips (with 1.02 firmware).

The 922 chip is used in all combo (FW/USB 2.0 FW800/USB 2.0)
configurations.

If anyone on the list has a combo FireCube or IceCube drive or
enclosure you can check your firmware version per the webpage below.
You can also download the latest (1.05) firmware from the same page but
please read the WARNINGS first.

Our advice is that you make sure you have a backup of your external
drive data and then just simply try it out with Panther. If there isn't
a problem and you have firmware 1.03 or later I'd recommend that you
proceed as normal.

Remember the problem only occurs if you boot from Panther with the
external combo drive connected so you can connect your drive after
booting up your machine to copy data and check the firmware.

Scott is going to sell his G4 Dual Processor 867MHz 1.25GB RAM DVDRW
SuperDrive included. This machine is under warranty until 4/9/05 -

The G4 comes with 160GB of HD storage. The main drive is an 80GB RAID
(2x40GB ATA-5 Seagate Barracudas) running on the ATA-100 Bus.

It also comes with the upgraded 64MB ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card. It
cost around $5000+ when I bought it because the video card and
superdrive were optional extras.

The G4 is in exceptional condition and still has the protective
plastic coverings on the front to protect the chrome inserts. I have
never had any problems with it.

Please give me a call on 0418 946 387 if you would like to know more.

If you need a top flight machine at reasonable cost, especially if you
are into video/multimedia give Scott a shout.

It looks like only a matter of days before Apple releases their
Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. We've previously tested the Microsoft
keyboard and mouse but found both to be terribly frustrating -
hopefully Apple will do a better job! Very often we'd need to reseat
the battery in both the mouse or keyboard otherwise nothing worked -
this is not what you want from either a keyboard or mouse. We are
importing both Bluetooth keyboards and mouse on trial directly from
Taiwan so if these are reliable and solid products, that we can price
well below the Apple or Microsoft product, we will be releasing both of
these in the near future stay tuned.

Bluetooth modules are now capable of a range of 100m but these
particular modules are still quite expensive so we are sticking with
the 40m range modules for the present - just a reminder these are in
stock at $69 -

Oh and yes we still have $29 MS optical wheel mice in stock -

There's been a lot of talk just recently on several of the lists with
people having drive and speed issues on their various machines. If you
are using a Mac .. please, PLEASE go out and get a copy of
DiskWarrior 3. You don't have to buy it from us, but please use grab a
copy and run it regularly every week if you can.

We wouldn't see 90% of the problems people post if you use this piece
of software in combination with other good maintenance practices. On a
regular basis run one of the several utilities that execute cron tasks
in OS X. We use MacJanitor but there are a number about and you can
just do a search on VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

Next go to Apple Disk Utility and select the FirstAid tab and click on
repair permissions. If you really want to get finicky you can also run
software like System Optimiser which updates all the Unix prebindings,
cleans out cache files and other tasks but this is only an optional
extra - again go to VersionTracker, etc as there are several utilities
that perform these tasks.

Then after you have performed these 2 or 3 maintenance routines, reboot
either from your DiskWarrior CD-ROM or another drive/volume with
DiskWarrior 3 installed and run DiskWarrior over your boot volume.
First of all you'll be amazed (and horrified) at how many minor (or
even major) errors it will find on your drive and when you reboot
you'll be amazed (and happy) at just how fast your System loads and
continue to be happy when you don't need to post to your favourite
group seeking help on remedying the terrible problems you have with
your computer.

DiskWarrior is truly a brilliant piece of software that will keep both
you and your Mac happy.

You may have heard a lot about Serial ATA recently so we've decided to
pass on a backgrounder courtesy of one of our main Taiwanese suppliers.
It is quite a good summary and the grammar is almost there as well -

Why Serial ATA
Serial ATA (SATA), an evolutionary high-performance interface for

storage devices to replace the Parallel ATA, is used to connect ATA and
ATAPI devices, including CDs, DVDs, tapes devices, high capacity
removeable devices, zip drives, and CD-RWs.

Compare with parallel ATA interface, Serial ATA addresses some
shortcomings and provides a scalable platform to support several
generations of future storage devices.

Serial ATA is a drop-in solution that is compatible with today's
software, which runs on the new architecture without modification. It
provides for systems which are easier to design, with cables that are
simple to route and install, smaller cable connectors, improve silicon
design, and lower voltages which alleviate current design requirements
in Parallel ATA.

Lower Voltage.
Parallel ATA requires integrated circuits to tolerate input signals as

high as 5 volts. Serial ATA reduces the signaling voltages to
approximately 250 millivolts (¼ volt).

Pin Efficiency.
The parallel ATA interface has 26 signal pins going into the interface
chip. Serial ATA uses only 4 signal pins, improving the pin efficiency
and accommodating a highly integrated chip implementation.

Improved Cable and Connector Plant.
The parallel ATA cable and connector plant is a bulky cable made up of

unwieldy 80 conductor ribbon cables and 40 pin header connectors.
Serial ATA uses a much smaller serial cable similar in appearance to
modern telephone cables. Eliminating the cable nest improves the
system's airflow and cooling, and offers greater freedom in chassis
design.

Master-Slave Interaction.
With today's parallel ATA implementation, pairs of devices share a

common cable in a master-slave relationship. This interaction between
devices results in the available bandwidth being shared between the
devices. Additionally, since the devices on the cable interact, they
must be jointly qualified, resulting in the substantial expansion of
the system integrators' qualification matrix in order to comprehend all
possible combinations of devices.

Serial ATA is a point-to-point interface where each device is directly
connected to the host via a dedicated link. Each device, therefore, has
the entire interface bandwidth dedicated to it, and there is no
interaction between devices. This means software can be streamlined,
eliminating the overhead associated with coordinating accesses between
the master and slave device sharing the same cable.

Serial ATA is compatible at the register level with parallel ATA. This
means Serial ATA requires no changes to existing software and operating
systems in order to function, and it provides backward compatibility
with existing operating environments. It has already been demonstrated
to run with Microsoft Windows* 98, Microsoft Windows 2000, and Linux
operating systems without the need for any special software drivers.

One quick item
Many mail list readers have asked about connecting the same FireWire

drive to both Windows and Mac computers. The best, most simple way
we've seen for doing this is to grab a copy of MacDrive 5 -
http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/

This runs on your Windows Me, 98, 95, NT 4.0, 2000 and XP machine with
the (Mac formatted) hard drive simply appearing as a Windows formatted
drive. When you've finished on your PC the drive is still plug'n'play
back on your Mac. Download cost is US$49.95.

-

We've had several readers ask for an explanation of FireWire 800 and
its uses so here's a brief primer with some links to further, useful
reading.

The latest Macs (and soon PC's) feature one of the fastest peripheral
standards ever developed - FireWire 800 (800Mbps - megabits per second)
or officially IEEE 1394b. The immediate use for this high speed bus is
in transferring large data files and for working with video and audio
production.

It doubles the speed of the original FireWire standard (IEEE 1394 or
now FireWire 400) and the cable length can go out as far as 4.5 metres
with bog standard FW 800 cables in further releases of FireWire
this will increase to 100 metres (sustaining 3200Mbps using glass fibre
cables) . and here's the tip. While initially this high-speed data
bus is going to be embraced by studio professionals for video and audio
work, the mainstream use of FireWire will likely come in the form of
very wide/high speed networks or non-traditional data connections .

IEEE 1394b's [FireWire 800's] road to success will probably not reach
its end soon. Despite the attempts of the USB Special Interest Group to
downplay Firewire's importance as being only a niche technology suited
for home-use and video-editing professionals, IEEE 1394b is far more
than a home network technology. Industries that need flexible and
powerful connection technology are very interested in IEEE 1394b.
Airplanes will be equipped with it, the automotive industry has already
shown an interest, and more and more computers will be equipped with a
1394b port. (http://it-enquirer.com/storage/ieee1394b.html)

Unlike the Intel attempts at high-speed data buses, the FireWire
standard allows for full compatibility for all FireWire versions and
products on the FireWire bus. Put simply, If you have a Mac or PC with
FireWire 800 you can connect this directly to your computer and then
daisy-chain several (that's actually a total of 63) existing FireWire
(400) devices to this FireWire 800 hard drive and all peripherals will
operate at their maximum throughput. As many people have discovered
connecting a USB 1.0/1.1 peripheral onto a bus running USB 2.0 slows
every device connected to USB 1.1 speeds.

Also FireWire allows individual devices to talk directly to each
other whereas with USB all communication is arbitrated by the CPU,
robbing both processing power and bandwidth.

For all Intel's attempts to present USB 2.0 as an answer to FireWire,
basically USB 2.0 is never going to play on the same court as FireWire.
Already you can simultaneously connect one FireWire video camera to two
FireWire enabled computers, so expect to see FireWire becoming a
networking standard more than our traditional idea of a way to connect
peripherals. In the future, we'll think of peripherals (such as
external hard drives) as just being network devices just like
other computers, video cameras, TV's,

CommPost: FireWire 800 Runout Specials

We also debut our new Manta drives. These use the same super-fast
Oxford 911 ATA-6 FireWire bridge as our Ice/FireCube drives but we've
paired the Mantas with cheaper 2MB cache 7200 RPM drives so as to
create a budget FireWire series. Our FireCube drives continue on as the
premium product using only 8MB cache drives.

Manta drive prices start at just $339 yes, for an external
FireWire drive -

CommPost: $599 160GB FireWire drive

2003-03-11 Thread Zytech online store

This week's super special is a 160GB external FireWire drive for $599.

We are test marketing MacPower's new MantaRay case design that features
an internal power supply and cooling fan. This 160GB drive spins at
7200RPM and features an 8MB cache.

Because this is a trial product please order the 160GB FireCube and
simply note $599 WAMUG MantaRay in the special comments field at
checkout. We'll alter your order accordingly.
http://www.zytech.com.au/firewire/drives/firecube/firecube.html

We are also doing a trial on USB 2.0 2.5 drive enclosures. We have
very neat aluminium USB 2.0 cases in stock for just $69. This offer is
exclusive to our mail list - you'll need to order by return email.

256MB DDR RAM modules are down as low as $77 and 256MB RAM for G4 iMacs
is from $95 check all the latest memory prices at -
http://www.zytech.com.au/memory/ram.html

(Our RAM is first grade, lifetime warranty; freight for RAM only orders
is $6 Australia-wide.)

We still have some 80GB Barracuda V hard drives that we are clearing
for $199 each. They are brand new, include a full Seagate 1 year
warranty and yes that includes GST! We have good stocks but once they
have gone, that's it -
http://www.zytech.com.au/other/drives/segate/segate.html

A reminder that we still are stocking our $29 Microsoft Optical Wheel
Mouse ... order online at -
http://www.zytech.com.au/usb/mouse/index.html

Last week our mail software fell over and 90% of the list was
undelivered so we are repeating information on the Flash Drive offer
that we will run until the end of March -

We've had calls from some people on the list working in schools and
universities that they missed out on our bulk purchase offer for Flash
Drives that we made available to the maced newsgroup last week. In that
there are many educators on our list that don't subscribe to the maced
list we've decided it is fairest to throw this offer open to everyone.

In a nutshell, we are offering FREE delivery and up to 20% discount on
Flash Drives purchased in bulk ... the full details are below -

Please excuse the intrusion but we are keen to widen the exposure for
our Flash Drive disks/memory.

As such we are going to make a special offer to the maced mail list
... here it goes -

Zytech will deliver freight FREE provide the following discounts for
Flash Drives in the following volumes -

5-9 pieces - 5%
10-19 pieces - 7.5%
20-49 pieces - 10%
50-99 pieces - 15%
100+ pieces - 20%

We have several schools and universities already ordering in quantity
and this will help to firm up our discount policy. Your
school/department or even bookshop can purchase these goods on normal
credit terms, our aim is to rapidly have this technology replace floppy
and Zip disks.

At maximum discount a 32MB drive will be $44, a 64MB Flash Drive will
cost $60 and a 256MB unit $159.20 and there is no delivery charge.
It is fine to mix and match in any combination and as of this week all
units will be aluminium.

Flash Drives use solid state memory to store data in capacities from
32MB to 2GB and are a logical and highly reliable successor to floppy
and Zip disks. They measure just 70x18x11mm (with the lid on) and the
new aluminium models include a USB extender cable and pendant/key
chain.

These drives plug into a computer's USB port and are 100% cross
platform with PC's and Macs. On most machines no extra software is
required. You can copy and erase your data just as you would on a
floppy or Zip disk . but this is much, much faster and the data is
infinitely less likely to be lost or damaged as so often happens with
magnetic disks.

For more details please give us a call or email or simply just check
current pricing and details on our website by clicking -
http://www.zytech.com.au/usb/pen/index.html

Thanks for the audience. I hope you agree this is a VERY attractive
offer so we look forward to receiving your comments and feedback.

And best of all . you don't need any hardware device at the other
end to copy/exchange data no floppy drive, no Zip drive, no
worries - just plug your Flash Drive into the USB port and you're away.

CommPost: Free shipping FireCube Flash Drives

2003-02-10 Thread Zytech online store
We've had quite a few questions about our Flash Drives (also known as
pen drives, thumb drives, RAMdrives, etc) so here's a brief
roundup.

These drives use solid state memory as opposed to a magnetic disk as is
the case in both floppy disks or say a Zip disk. As a result they are
infinitely more reliable. Flash Drives come formatted so they can be
read on either a PC or a Mac and like a normal hard drive these can be
reformatted as a Mac only disk.

They plug into the USB port and under most OS's mount automatically.
They can be hung around your neck or attached to your keyring and don't
mind being treated relatively roughly.

We now have a number of schools selling or providing these solid state
drives to their students (in preference to floppy disks or other
medium) and we can offer a further discount if anyone wants to buy
these in bulk.

Capacities range from 32MB right through to 2GB and because some of you
have had to put up with our pander on this topic our lead special
this week is ... we will ship ANY Flash Drive freight free ... this
week ONLY. Prices are 32MB $55, 64MB $74, 128MB $128, 256MB $218 -
http://www.zytech.com.au/usb/pen/index.html

Our second special is our premium FireCube 80GB FireWire drive. We've
just reduced the price to $429 and as an added, exclusive mail list
bonus we are shipping this drive FREIGHT free this week only -
http://www.zytech.com.au/special.html

Just insert WAMUG special at checkout and you won't be billed freight
on either the 80GB FireCube or your Flash Drive order.

We've also had several requests for information on the Fuji Slimshot
camera . special mail list price of $199 (expect to pay up to $299
elsewhere !!).

The camera is so small it will happily fit into a normal sized wallet;
it has 8MB internal memory, it uses an inbuilt Lithium-Ion battery
(charged via the USB port) and ships with SlimShot Photo Albulm and
PhotoImpression software for BOTH Windows and Mac OS 8.6-9.x. These are
absolutely ideal for schools or even as a second camera that you can
always have with you. An absolutely superb product - if you want one
... or two just reply by email.

CommPost: $218 FlashDrive $256MB

2003-01-21 Thread Zytech online store
This week we have reduced the price of our new 256MB USB FlashDrive to
just $218 - these are in stock and you can order at -
http://www.zytech.com.au/usb/pen/index.html

We are looking to introduce FireWire 800 hard drives in the second half
of February ... stay tuned for more details and pricing. At the same
time we will be reducing our standard range of FireWire (400) hard
drives back to a single main line.

This means that we will be deleting our Pyro hard drive range and
moving across to FireCubes as being the major drive range that we
carry. As FireCube cases cost us more than the Pyro case you can expect
to see entry point pricing increase throughout most capacities . so
the bottom line is if you want a $399 80GB Pyro FireWire drive you
had better hurry!
http://www.zytech.com.au/special.html

The other hard drive news is that Hitachi have purchased a controlling
interest in IBM's storage division and shortly IBM hard drives will
become Hitachi hard drives (as will 100% of the company over the next 2
years). There is no impact on pricing at this stage but clearly Hitachi
are keen to use hard drives in consumer equipment which will likely see
shortages in the traditional 2.5 storage markets.

I'm not sure we are celebrating, but we are offering a 40GB FireStorm
portable FireWire hard drive exclusively on the mail list this week for
$399. This drive only requires a FireWire cable, using bus power -
http://www.zytech.com.au/firewire/drives/firestorm/index.html
Just insert WAMUG special in the special instructions field at checkout
and you will be billed the $399 price.

Standard RAM pricing is likely to continue to rise as suppliers ramp up
their DDR output (the price of which is generally falling) but is
creating a shortage in the SDRAM market. We expect to see DDR SDRAM
pricing meet somewhere between their current prices. That means expect
to see 512MB PC-133 (first-grade) RAM back to a low $200's price tag.

For those lucky enough to have a 17 PowerBook (or 12 for those with
small briefcases) we now have aluminium PowerBook RAM upgrades on our
web page. However, when you see the price you won't feel so lucky!
http://www.zytech.com.au/memory/ram.html

We are also introducing new aluminium 6-in-1 card readers and we have
just a few of the previous (plastic) model that we are quitting at $49
including free delivery -

CommPost: Pyro II launch/specials

2002-12-02 Thread Zytech online store
Today we launch our brand new Pyro II 3.5 FireWire hard drives

Not only are these a genuine brushed aluminium case but they have the
fastest Oxford 911 chipset that we have tested - even faster than our
FireCube product that was rated by US MacWorld as one of the 3 fastest
FireWire enclosures available (the other two being LaCie and Granite
Digital). Combined with a low-noise fan, the Pyro II's solid aluminium
casing affords the highest level of heat dissipation available for the
new, big (read hot !) hard drives.

As an introductory offer, EXCLUSIVE to our mail/news list, we will
supply an
80GB Pyro II drive for $399, or a
120GB Pyro II drive for $499 -
http://www.zytech.com.au/firewire/drives/pyro/index.html

or a Pyro II FireWire enclosure for $159 (normally $175)
http://www.zytech.com.au/firewire/enclosures/pyro/index.html
The offer expires Friday 6/12 - please write WAMUG special in the
comments field at checkout so you are billed the exclusive mail list
price. The 80Gb is a Seagate Barracuda iV the 120GB a Barracuda V.

The Pyro II is the big brother of our 2.5 FireStorm which we've also

CommPost: Zytech specials

2002-10-14 Thread Zytech online store
We haven't had a memory update for a while so here goes - DDR (the RAM
used in most of the latest desktop CPU's) prices are up with increased
demand from China and major fabricators are continuing to struggle to
meet demand. We've just had a forecast that standard SDRAM (the memory
used by most everybody else) is likely to rise towards the end of
October.

Generally most RAM has decreased steadily over the last few months but
it looks to have plateaued over the past few weeks. Overall RAM pricing
is as steady as we have seen it over the last 12 months but there is
this prediction from suppliers of price rises. Probably the best bet is
with the local bookie!

We have our Sony Ericsson T39 Bluetooth phone (100% iSync compatible)
demo for sale at the special, one-off price of $469, which is under our
cost. This phone is about 4 weeks old and comes with the full factory 1
year warranty original packaging. Reply by email - ONE only

CommPost: Bluetooth intro $254 camera

2002-09-09 Thread Zytech online store
$529 40GB FireStar portable 2.5 drive -
The price differential between 3.5 and 2.5 is now its lowest ever.
The 40GB FireStar is now only around $100 more than a 3.5 FireCube
drive. I use one of these myself, having diced my external 3.5 drive.
FireStar drives give you portability (they fit in a shirtpocket and
require no mains power, cables or power supply), look great (the very
cool see-through clear case with the dual intensity blue LED) and you
can boot a computer from this drive.

That means apart from holding your own backup files, you can run demos
or repair another computer simply by plugging the FireStar into the
FireWire port (it will power up and mount automatically), selecting it
as the startup drive and restarting. I use it to maintain other
computers and update software and you don't need to climb under a
table to find a power point! Buy this for the new special price of $529

$254 1.3 megapixel digital camera -
These are in stock now and are new from BenQ (which is the new name for
Acer Multimedia) - order by return mail

iBook laptop -
We have just upgraded one of our iBooks so we have a white iBook
600/128/15G/DVD for sale. This machine is still under Apple warranty,
complete with original manuals, software, etc - price is $2500 ONO -
reply by email if you want this . first in, one only!

*** BLUETOOTH PHONE SPECIALS ***
To celebrate our introduction of Sony Ericsson phones and a swathe of
new Bluetooth devices (hopefully all on the website next week) we are
offering a Sony Ericsson T68 Bluetooth phone with CommuniCam camera for
$899 - that's $565 (or 38.5%) below RRP. We also have VERY limited
stocks of the SE Bluetooth T39 phone for $579. Order by return email.

$20 OFF Droid FireWire/USB combo hub -
We're overstocked on these so we are going to reduce stock by selling
them below cost at $79. The droid hub gives you 3 x FireWire outlets
and 4 x USB outlets. As this is a powered hub you can plug in any
FireWire or USB peripheral. Buy online at -
http://www.zytech.com.au/usb/hubs/combohub.html

$499 600dpi duplexing laser printer -
Panasonic KX-P7100 BW Laser Printer with auto duplex (prints both
sides), 14ppm, 600x600 dpi, parralel or USB interface, 2MB RAM, 250
sheet media tray + manual feed, drivers for Windows 95/98/Me/2000/NT
4.0/XP, 12 months return to base warranty, 254mm H, 399mm W, 390mm D,
10kg - while stocks last at $499 ... return email if you want one of
these.

is still erratic small price movements up and down each week check
