But there's nothing wrong with playing off of a laptop either ;) Instead of
all the sound modules being external, you have them on your laptop as
software. So for example you could have a nice tc electronic reverb plug-in
for effects, native instruments battery as your drum machine, reaktor as
True, the only indication i had during Todd Sines' live pa that he was
changing something up on his laptop was when he started wiggling his ass and
bobbing his head ... and he was doing a lot of that!
Maybe bigger and better cooler looking external controllers are the way
forward since it solves
one of the most insightful postings i've ever seen on this list...
prime example, this past monday @ tronic (weekly techno party in nyc) we had
arranged todd sines to open up the night. he was running late and didn't
arrive until the middle of surgeon's set. now in an old setup (ie.
non-laptop)
also try Jan Jalinek's Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records
not live instrumentation, but a cut up of older jazz records from the 60's
and 70's. sure he didn't play these instruments himself and used a computer
and sampler to meld the samples together, ...

stuff from Ricardo Villalobos, Dimbiman (who i saw live w/ Brinkman and The
Modernist, wow!), Auch (on Force), Motor, Vladislav Delay, and everything

Great benefit party at Guernica, 11K raised! I knew a couple of the guys
that worked at this engine company and it's sad walking by during my morning
commute and not seeing the usual faces.
