(313) Laptop performances

2004-06-24 Thread Simon Hindle
So I've been having a bit of a discussion on a local messageboard about laptop performances. By and large, they're really BORING. It looks like people are checking their email. Or, if they're bopping along, it looks like they're checking important email but really need to go to the toilet.

2004-06-23 Thread Simon Hindle
Yeah, I'm actually quite enjoying this acid revival. It seems to be the next 'big' sound - it's only a matter of time before Madonna starts wailing over bubbling 303 basslines but in the meantime there's some nice stuff coming out - Abe Duque's 'What Happened' EP, some of the newer Poker Flat

(313) Akufen Mix for download

2004-06-22 Thread Simon Hindle
Akufen is next up in the Fabric mix series, and if you go to www.fabriclondon.com you ought to be able to navigate to the info page for the release. There's a decent interview with him, but more importantly there's a decent quality streamed half hour promo mix he's done ahead of the proper release

2004-06-03 Thread Simon Hindle
That's right - another High-Jinks, this Saturday at the Sly Fox on Enmore Rd. 7pm-3am, free entry, cheap beers and a pool comp. And, to make this vaguely relevant to the list at large, one of our guests will be fellow listmember JAMES BUCKNELL, who will be blowing us all away, Reader's

RE: (313) my personal experience at movement

2004-06-02 Thread Simon Hindle
It seems like there's a fair bit of weight given to monetary concerns after each movement/DEMF event - stories of Derrick May hitting his folks up for cash, contractors threatening to walk out and so on... From reading reports, it's apparent that so far the organisers have had to make Herculean

(313) Carl Craig/Talking Heads

2004-05-31 Thread Simon Hindle
I was reading an interview with the Unabombers (Electric Chair) last night and they were asked what their top 5 records of the moment were. In #1 position they listed Talking Heads - Once In A Lifetime (Carl Craig Edit) Does anybody know anything about this? I had no luck at Discogs.
