If connected to a decent amplifier then the RCA (phono) cables will be
fine.

intrusive clicks and pops. After trying to repair the surface noise in
the first track I got bored, dumped the computer WAV file and ordered
the CD for £4.50 from Amazon. In the meantime I am listening to it on
Napster. Brilliant album!

I am very suspicious of recent digitally remastered re-issues of
albums from the 1970s - 1990s. I prefer to buy the original CDs second
hand which are probably more faithful to the vinyl version.

works surprisingly well at digging out obscure music.
Having said that, my classical music tastes are very mainstream and
probably not much of a challenge to find issued on CD.

They are very good at letting you hear lots of kit without committing.
Try hearing a new amp with your existing speakers before committing any
of your precious budget to new speakers. I think you may be surprised!

I really think that listening to new equipment blind is an asbolute
necessity if you want to avoid being disappointed once you get
in demanding to hear. I like
dealers that have listening rooms and that give you lots of time to
evaluate equipment for yourself.
Not many of those around, so I am quite happy to plug Grahams hi-fi in
Islington which is where I bought most of my kit.
