I have a chinese amp (a Ming-Da) driving a pair of Harbeth HLP3-ES
speakers in my kitchen system which sound great too. It doesn't go

I posted a review earlier of my recent purchase - a Derek Shek d2 dac.
This cost £184 (about $320 or so) including delivery, and I'd recommend
it as a good improvement over the stock SB3.

you seem to like, it might be worth looking at
the non-os DACs currently available - Derek Shek, Monica2 and mhdt, for
example. They are just £75-£200 ($150-350), so a bit of a no-risk buy
in the scheme of things. I'm thinking of getting one just to play :)

they do
live relays it really is *much* better than CD. However, most radio is
just CD, so hasn't got much chance...
Frequency response is irrelevant - it's just a number ;)

of grunt, probably solid state rather than
valve.
I think the passive attenuator is so you don't accidentally put full
power through your system. While the SB volume is digital (and hence
lossy), I don't think people have found too much wrong with it.

the results with some caution. However, I recognise that my
system of testing, by not being blind, cannot be scientific. Is there

cables, some made myself, and
the situation with all of these has been that they appear to help, but
minimally, and the difference is small enough that it's not worth
changing back and forth dozens of times - life's too short.
Any thoughts?
